Arsenal defender David Luiz accepted responsibility for their 3-0 defeat at Manchester City but said he still hopes to play for the club again.

Luiz, who is out of contract at the end of the month, was sent off to cap an error-strewn return to action.

“It’s my fault,” the 33-year-old said. “The team did well, especially with 10 men. The coach is amazing, all the players are amazing, it was my fault.

“I want to be here. The coach knows. He wants me to stay.”

Luiz only joined Arsenal last summer – moving from Chelsea on deadline day for £8m – but he was left on the bench against City amid confusion surrounding his contract status.

He came on in the 24th minute after Pablo Mari was injured, and was at fault for Raheem Sterling’s opener.

Manchester City will invite David Silva back to the club whenever fans are allowed to return to receive a fitting farewell for his decade of service to the club.

City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed Silva will stay at Etihad Stadium until the rescheduled end of the season in August.

France’s highest administrative court has confirmed the Ligue 1 season will end early as planned – but suspended the relegation of Amiens and Toulouse.

The league was canceled in April on a points-per-game basis, with Paris St-Germain named champions and Ligue 2 sides Lorient and Lens promoted.

However, Amiens and Toulouse – the French top-flight’s bottom two clubs – could still be demoted because the State Council ruled that the French Football League (LFP) must re-examine its structure of the top two divisions.

Tuesday’s ruling could potentially lead to a 22-team Ligue 1 for the 2020-21 season, an increase of two sides.

Lisbon is the favourite to host an eight-team Champions League knockout tournament in August if it is given the go-ahead by governing body UEFA.

UEFA's planning to move the final from Istanbul, where it was due to be held on 30 May, for the new format.

Spain’s top-flight resumes on Thursday, having been suspended on 10 March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tebas says talks will take place with the government in two weeks to discuss the possibility of fans returning when it is safe to do so.

“Of course it won’t be the entire stadium and there will be special precautionary measures,” said Tebas.

Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui hopes fans stay away from the ground for Thursday’s Seville derby with Real Betis as La Liga returns to action.

Progress in the fight against racism will only come in football when more black players become managers, England and Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling says.

Thousands of people have taken part in anti-racism marches in the UK, following the death of American George Floyd on 25 May in Minneapolis.

“The protest is a great starting point, to make your voice be heard,” he said.

“But just protesting alone is not going to make a change in this country.”

Speaking at Newsnight programme, the 25-year-old added: “It’s how we move on from here. It’s about highlighting things, the society that needs changing and then acting upon it. We’ve done a lot of talking, and it’s time now to act.”

England and Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has backed protests taking place across the UK, saying “the only disease right now is the racism that we are fighting”.
Thousands of people have taken part in Black Lives Matter marches in the UK, despite government warnings to avoid mass gatherings because of the threat of coronavirus.

“This is the most important thing at this moment in time because this is something that is happening for years and years,” Sterling, 25, said.

Large protests have been held in London, Bristol, Manchester, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh following the death of American George Floyd.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho says it is an “absolute joke” he has been fined by the German football league after being pictured having a home haircut without wearing a mask.

England forward Sancho’s team-mate Manuel Akanji has also been fined after they were deemed to have broken rules.

The league said the players had “obviously violated general hygiene and infection protection standards”.

Tottenham’s Son Heung-min described his recent military service as “tough” and added that he is almost at peak fitness for the restart of the Premier League.
The 27-year-old forward performed three weeks mandatory service in South Korea in April, after recovering from surgery on a fractured arm.
