alj_harem: May be this might explain OBJ and his father look-alike from Onitsha. But it just sounds ridiculous to be honest. How can Igbos be Yorubas and vis-versa. A bit of research from another scientist other than Philip would certainly shed more light on this. |

Chyz*:Read up on what Philip has to say. You will be surprised. The current Igbo language was from the Ancient Yoruba language, the OLUKUNMI. I am surprise as well. Who knew Igbos are actually Yorubas . . . . 1 Like |

Yoruba The most comprehensive source of photographs on Yorubas. Yoruba Onitsha, Orisha Introduction: By PHILIP EMEAGWALI I am a Yoruba by birth (born in Akure, western region) and Igbo by heritage. As a native Onitsha Igbo, I trace my ancestry to Eze Chima, a prince who rebelled against the Benin royal dynasty and emigrated from the kingdom. Other Igbos that trace their lineage to Eze Chima include Onicha-Ukwu, Onicha-Olona, Onicha-Ugbo, Obior, Issele-Ukwu, Issele-Mkpima, Issele-Azagba, Ezi, Abeh and Obamkpa. Native Onitshans speak a dialect of the Igbo language with several Benin/Yoruba words such as "Obi" (of Onitsha) and "Oba" (of Benin). In fact, the word Onitsha (Onicha) is a corruption of the god "Orisha." The bini name for River Niger is Ohinmwin. The Onicha Igbo call it "Orinmili." In a few years, we will have DNA tests that proves (or disproves) the Onitsha-Benin-Yoruba connection. In fact, a lost dialect of the Yoruba language, called Olukwumu, is spoken in Brazil and in a few Igbo communities named Anioma, Idumu-Ogu, Ubulubu, Ugboba, Ugbodu, and Ukwunzu (M. A. Onwuejeogwu, 1987 Ahiajoku Lecture The absence Olukwumu in core Yoruba land proves that these communities are the Lost Yoruba Tribe that were fleeing from slave raiders. Mimiko, Aregbesola, Fayemi meet on common strategy He said, “We believe that, as progressive minded people who are also governing a well educated and enlightened people, we should find a way to synergise our programmes. “We need to organise our states in a manner that our economies of scale would ensure better delivery of good governance. It is all about geographical contiguity.” Fayemi said the three governors were committed to making a difference in the lives of their people. “We want to collaborate and work closely together in the areas of power generation and distribution; we are looking at the rail system, edcation, health centre, renewable energy and other areas where we can touch on,” he added. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201012073133514 |

Governors of Ekiti, Osun, and Oyo States, Mr Segun Oni, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala respectively, met in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, yesterday, to discuss unity of the Yoruba race. According to him, Yoruba had always been the pacesetter in the Nigerian federation with legacies like the Cocoa House, Liberty Stadium, both of which he likened to the Wembley Stadium in London, as well as starting the first television station in Africa. Stressing that "a house divided against itself cannot stand," the governor said the meeting gave the Yoruba governors and monarchs another opportunity to put their house in order and to speak with one voice. |

I think the Yoruba nation has made a critical choice of surrendering National politics and investing in regional politics. I think they simply want to develop their region and operate a welfare state independent of the country. Congratulations to the Yorubas but also to the Igbos because with Yorubas out of the way in National politics, they will go in unchallenged except they want to do the same as ACN through APGA. |

pawa4ul:In as much as I do not support this tribal bashing. I just want to correct you on the highlighted. How can you say Lagos is not a Yoruba state Are the indigenes Igbos Exactly, They are the Aworis and co and the last time I checked, they are Yorubas. It's statements like that that can cause violence and malice. Please, stop it. It was because of statements like that Jakande got elected and we all know what happened after that, don't we? Agreed, Igbos are part and parcel od Lagos, so are other groups in Nigeria but why is it that it's only you guys that make such inflammatory statements Even the Edos that are indigenes do not make such statements. When the Hausas made such statement, we all know what happened. It's because the Yorubas and the Igbos love eachother that is why such as not happened between them but do not push their endurance. Thank you. |
