Politics / Re: Before You Compare Amotekun With Hisbah... by WisdomFlakes: 8:40pm On Jan 18, 2020
Everybody should just calm down. The SW governors should send a bill to their respective state assemblies to legitimize the Amotekun outfit while the Northerners should also sit their behinds down and stop heating up the polity over a non-issue. Lagos has something similar to Amotekun (called 'Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps' -- see pictures from the launch of the outfit below) and nobody made a fuss about it. At the end of the day everybody go dey alright.

Politics / Re: Makinde:::Ready To Waive Immunity To Face Any Corruption Charges by WisdomFlakes: 8:43am On Dec 24, 2019
Going by his uninspiring and populist utterances lately, I am beginning to think Governor Seyi might be a fluke and an 'empty suit' after all. You hardly hear him make cerebral statements about how he intends to develop human capacity in Oyo, or any innovative ideas on his intentions to industrialize and upgrade the cities within the state to modern standards to boost the state's GDP. No serious policy statement so far from him on the role technology would play in his policy thrust. In the midst of all the hype, I am still itching to hear him say anything to suggest that his reign would be any different from Ladoja's (whose only noteworthy legacy was prompt payment of salaries).

Oyo needs a visionary who is willing to adopt innovative approaches to tackling its enormous challenges (and harping about 'fighting corruption' isn't one of them). I think he's getting carried away with all the adulation he is currently receiving while losing sight of the enormity of the responsibility placed on his shoulders.

He's way too too exposed to be sounding more and more like a glorified Fayose (who saw and treated Ekiti people as perpetually downtrodden folks whom are content with mediocrity and deserving of no more than mere handouts).

Seyi, please step up your game. You can do way better.

wengerjay:
It is the truth

Had APC lost either Bayelsa or Kogi, the blame for such loss would have been heaped on Oshiomhole (be that justified or not, that's just the nature of politics, and I imagine his enemies must have been hoping for such outcome). It's for the same reason that those electoral victories are also being credited to him. Though it appears the battle line has been drawn between he and his foes within the party, but it remains to be seen how successful the calls for his resignation would be.

If APC had lost either of the last two recently held elections, Oshiomhole's position would have been seriously threatened (as is the case with his PDP counterpart, Uche Secondus after last weekend's election). But under the present circumstance, it will be tough for his opponents to justify their call for him to resign because he and the party are in a position of strength at the moment. The arguments against him sound hollow in light of that.

So far I am yet to be impressed by this Makinde fella, though I will still hold out on judging him till at least middle of his tenure. So far his policies seem to be based on impulse rather than being well thought out (like this latest one he just rescinded).

He should show some concrete policy direction that will define his administration rather acting on impulse just to keep his praise-singers happy. Governance is serious business. But it's still early to judge him so we'll see how it all goes.

Why can't the igbos just come out and BOLDLY stake a claim to the presidency under the PDP? They've certainly earned it going by their unwavering loyalty to the party all along, so they should grow some balls and ask for their right in PDP.

Politics / 2023 Igbo Presidency: We Need 2 South-East Governors, Senators To Defect To APC by WisdomFlakes: 3:01pm On Oct 26, 2019
ON OCTOBER 26, 2019

By Nwafor Sunday
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has on Saturday said that Igbo need two of their Governors and Senators that would voluntarily dump their respective parties and defect to the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, for the actualization of 2023 Igbo Presidency goal.

The group revealed that one of the reasons Igbo have not become President for over twenty years in Nigeria, was because of the Political parties most of their politicians were into.

They said in other to have an edge over other Southern Zones in the 2023 Presidency, Igbo need at least two South East Governors and some senators to decamp to APC.

Disclosing this in a statement jointly signed by the President General, Mazi okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Secretary General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, respectively, the group opined, “We have observed that Igbo going so far based on political antecedents and activities, are traditionally PDP and APGA for almost two decades of Democracy in Nigeria.

“Igbo Youths observed that in other to have an edge over other Southern Zones over 2023 Presidency, we must have at least two South East Governors decamped to APC.

“Talks had already begun with some critical stakeholders to actualize this political balance in the South East.

“At least with three South East PDP Governors and two South East APC Governors before first quarter of 2021, Igbo stand a chance for presidency.

“We are independently sure that with two APC Governors from the South East, it will strengthen our collective bargain for a Nigerian President of Igbo stock come 2023 in both PDP and APC.

“We urge Igbo to use ” Anya Dee Nwamuo Lee ihe nno n’akpa” let’s despise the flaws of the past and flush it into the dustbin of history.

“We surely get two Igbo Presidential materials to fly PDP and APC tickets, especially those with the same pedigrees of Great Zik of Africa.

Support Igbo Presidency, it’s easier to achieve than Biafra, Ohanaeze tells IPOB, Igbo(Opens in a new browser tab)

“We insists that Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide is not organizing any Award or Beauty pageant in Bayelsa, and we don’t support any candidate in Bayelsa Guber Candidate in the forthcoming elections.

“Those using Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths name are fraudulent elements and we disassociate ourselves, as Ohanaeze Ndigbo Bayelsa is not aware of the event.

“We urge those slated for the award to be wary of fraudsters who Masquerade as Igbo to extort unsuspecting public.

“We have dissolved the Bayelsa State Exco of Ohanaeze Youths whose tenure elapsed last February 2019, and the Bayelsa State Ohanaeze had constituted a new electoral body for the new elections. We therefore urge Igbo to vote their conscience in Bayelsa Governorship election.

Politics / 3 Months After 10bn ‘infrastructural Loan’, Makinde To Borrow 7.6bn To Build Far by WisdomFlakes: 8:02am On Oct 11, 2019
https://oyoinsight.com/makinde-to-borrow-7-6bn-to-build-farm-settlements-in-ibadan-ibarapa/

By admin - October 10, 2019 902 0

The Oyo State House of Assembly on Thursday granted Governor Seyi Makinde permission to access the Seven Billion, Six hundred thousand naira (N7.6B) loan for Akufo – Eruwa Farm settlement.

This came few weeks after the same assembly approved Makinde’s permission to collect N10 billion Naira loan for infrastructural development.

This was mentioned and approved by the Honourable Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin while reading Makinde’s letter.

This approval was sequel to the letter forwarded by the governor and read by the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin at plenary, today, October 10th, 2019.

After heated deliberations by members on the issue, majority of the lawmakers observing that the loan facility should spread across farm settlements in the state, the Speaker finally ruled that the loan would be approved as sent by the governor.

The governor is seeking to access the N7.6 billion naira loan to develop Akufo and Eruwa farm settlements into farm estates in the state.

The two farm settlements, which are located within Ido/Ibarapa federal constituency are to serve as pilot projects which will be used to develop other farm settlements across the state.

In their separate reactions, the deputy Speaker, Hon Abiodun Fadeyi and the Minority Leader, Hon Asimiyu Alarape called for the extension of the loan facility to other areas across the state.

They equally urged the Executive arm of Government in Oyo state to ensure judicious use of the Agricultural loan to enable it achieve the purpose for which it is sought.

Hon. Isiaka Tunde representing Oyo East/ Oyo West constituency and Hon. Dele Adeola representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju state constituency also expressed their dissatisfaction on concentration on the loan to only two farm settlements within only one federal constituency.

They noted that there is need for Governor Seyi Makinde to spread the scope and usage of the agricultural loan to other zones in the state and not limit it to Akufo and Eruwa farm settlements alone.

While passing the resolution, the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin overruled the submission of other lawmakers, stated that the loan facility would be approved as presented by the governor.

Politics / Re: ATIKU, PETER OBI Ignore Ekweremadu Attack, Remain Silent by WisdomFlakes: 10:08am On Aug 19, 2019
The likes of Peter Obi and some other SE polticians were cuddling Ipob for political reasons so it shouldn't come as a surprise if Obi's currently mute concerning Ike's recent disgrace (that is besides the fact that Obi may still be grudging Ike for not initially supporting his VP candidacy). The few ones that dared to stand up to them (like Obiano and Okorocha) were quickly marked and ostracized in the region.

It's no secret that the top echelons of the PDP leadership (including Ekweremadu and Atiku) gave iPob tacit support and legitimacy prior to the last general elections; that was the basis of Kanu's almost last minute lifting of his 'order' against voting in the SE region. The likes of Ihedioha are being careful at this point. The SE political establishment have unwittingly created a monster that is now threatening their very own security.

Perhaps they thought they were in Nigeria where anyone can attack a policeman and go scot-free.

Malaysian authorities will teach them so hard lessons.

If you live outside of your country just behave.

However, I'd you think that racism is too much, relocate or return.

I worked with one Indian technician in Nigeria who would often laugh at Nigerians traveling to his country to hustle

He would say that Nigeria is so blessed yet Nigerians are so blind to see the huge potentials that the country has.

Sad but true. Foreigners tend to see more opportunities in Nigeria than Nigerians themselves. Remember those illegal immigrant Chinese that were caught extracting gold and other stuff from e-waste in Lagos the other time. I recall they said they didn't want to leave Nigeria after their visas expired because they saw lots of opportunities here.

If the account of this vanguard report is true, then I will urge Obaseki to start preparing to port to another party because it appears he's not willing to compromise or reach a truce with the other faction in the state. He can go and test his popularity under another party, with PDP being his best bet. He won't be the first, neither will he be the last to do such. Ortom and Tambuwal did that and it worked for them in the end.
