Car Security Tips

It will surprise many vehicle owners to learn that car crime accounted for an unlucky 13% of all recorded crime in England and Wales in 20081. It's a shocking statistic and one that leaves more than one and a half million motorists2 out of pocket each year.

Having your car broken-into or stolen is traumatic enough, but you'll also be looking at paying the excess and you can wave goodbye to your no-claims bonus. The flip side is that by improving your car's security you can reduce your insurance premium. So not only can you avoid the headache of vehicle crime, but you can also make some serious savings.

The following steps are simple, cheap and proven to be effective in reducing car crime:

Park securely: In an ideal world everyone would have a garage they could lock-up safely at night. However, for most motorists off-street parking in a driveway is a more realistic option. Security can be greatly improved by fitting motion detector lighting to deter would-be criminals, and if you must park on the street make sure it's in a well-lit area. Bear in mind that the highest proportion of all car crime takes place in the street outside the owner's house, so don't be complacent.3

Fit an immobiliser: Immobilisers work in a variety of ways by preventing the ignition, starter motor or fuel pump from working. However, they all do the same thing and that's safeguard your car from theft. Fitting an immobiliser is the single most cost-effective way to reduce your insurance premium, provided it is 'Thatcham' or 'Sold Secure' approved and fitted by a member of the Vehicle Systems Installation Board (VSIB).

Remove temptation: Opportunist thieves break into cars to steal absolutely anything, so don't give them the opportunity. Electrical items are favourite targets, but bags and clothing are also popular. Keep your car's interior clutter free with any valuables locked-up and out of sight in the boot. Similarly empty your glove box and leave it open to show that you've got nothing to hide. And finally don't forget to wipe-off the circular suction mark that your Sat-Nav leaves on your windscreen; they attract thieves like bees to honey.

Fit an alarm: If you haven't got a factory-fitted alarm you can cut the cost of your insurance by getting a car alarm fitted. The market is awash with alarms detecting everything from a window being broken to your bonnet being opened. Quality varies enormously so check with your insurer that your alarm is approved and it will earn you a discount.

Be careful with your keys: With advances in vehicle security over the years; one of the easiest ways for a thief to steal your car is to first get their hands on your keys. According to the British Crime Survey seven percent of all household burglaries in 2008 involved taking a vehicle, so make sure that your spare set of keys are well hidden4 Keys left on the hall table can be 'fished' through the letter box and a bunch of keys left on your office desk is an open invitation. The rising trend for 'car key burglaries' seems set to continue as a growing number of vehicles are stolen to order.

Fit wheel locks: When was the last time you saw a car propped up on bricks? Wheels are easy prey for thieves especially if you have a set of alloys. Locking wheel nuts are an effective deterrent, plus they are cheap to buy and easy to fit.

Get your windows etched: Etching is a tried and tested way to frustrate car cloners. With the last seven digits of your Vehicle Identity Number (or registration) etched on to your windows, headlights and mirrors; anyone trying to change your car's identity will really have their work cut out.

Steering wheel lock: Given that experienced car thieves can remove a steering wheel in less than a minute (and 'yes' they do carry spares), some question the effectiveness of steering wheel locks. However, they do provide a cheap deterrent that's likely to put off all but the most determined criminal. Handbrake and gearstick locks provide a similar alternative.

Preventing vehicle crime is all about making life more difficult for criminals, and by taking any of the measures outlined above you are reducing the risk of your car being broken into or stolen.

Futurists have announced that awaits as a very promising future with flying cars, cities that are powered by sunlight, biofuels and many other things, all by the year 2020.

Here's a list of things expected by 2020,
and if there's something you think should or should not be on this list you can add up in the thread,

1. The basis for the robots on the moon
Despite the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan recently, and the current nuclear crisis, the Japanese continued to work on a project to build a robot base on the moon, that will be build by robots and that will be used by robots.

2. Fast train from Beijing to London
The Chinese have a very ambitious plan to link East and West railway line for fast train, from Beijing to London, and although it sounds simple, it will be difficult to get permission to build a railway from all seventeen countries through which the train will pass.

3. Self-directing cars
A scene from the movie Demolition Man in which Sylvester Stallone enters the cab, where he says where he wants to go, the car drive him to that place, maybe it is not that far future, since many of them try to do that. However, before that step is designing a car trains, which need no driver, and then the cars that can think of themselves. Also, Liphol suspected complex infrastructure for cars on the road can be designed by then.

4. Flying cars
While the American agency for development of advanced military technologies DARPA patented a flying car, it will use only the army and will not be mass produced. Just as with self-directing cars - it can not be so quick to design the infrastructure, in this case an air communication.

5. Controlling devices with mind (BRAINWAVE)
The ability to control computers, doors, washing machines etc. .. through brainwaves and then "telepathically" has always been the dream of every man. It is the way in which this goal could be achieved through the implantation of microchips under the skin, which is under discussion. Unfortunately, I think we are still far from such a result. We have not yet clear vision of how to operate the electro-chemical interactions between neurons to be interpreted by microchips. We'll see!
As the brain is still unexplored territory, and scientists and science fiction writers for years are talking about controlling minds. 6. A computer with human intelligence

8 Biofuels at costs competitive with fossil fuels

9. Synthetic brain that works like a real one
We have already determined that it is feasible to make a computer with human intelligence, and scientists from Switzerland said that it can be made to function as genuine, and have created a machine with 10,000 neurons. However, the human brain contains billions and billions of neurons, given that we do not know how the brain works, it is unlikely to make a synthetic mind to work as a human mind.

Sky Broadband company that conducted the study reported that because more people
are sick of the so-called e-anxiety syndrome. Those people panic, or even fall into
depression when they are not able to check their email or Facebook account.
It has been also been proven that men spend more time online than women.

These are some Photoshop shortcuts that I've learned as a beginner.

Drag selection
With the Marquee tool, drag on the document (do not release the mouse yet), now hold down Spacebar, it will let you drag the undefined selection.


Navigate the document left or right
Hold down the Cmd key and scroll up or down allows you to navigate the document left or right. For example, hold down Cmd + scroll up will navigate to right.


Browse the font list
Put your cursor in the font list dropdown, you can browse the font list by pressing arrow Up or Down key.


Scale font size
Select the text that you want to scale the font size, press Cmd + Shift + > or < to increase / decrease font size.


Zoom with the scroll wheel
You can zoom in / out by Cmd + Opt + scroll up or down.


Drag to adjust numberic value
Mouseover the input box, hold down Cmd + drag left or right to increase / decrease. Hold down Cmd + Opt or Shift key and drag can change the value in decimal or 10 interval. This shortcut works in all dialog palettes.


Scroll to adjust numeric value
Put the cursor in the input box, scroll up or down to increase / decrease value. This shortcut works in all dialog palettes.


Arrow up / down to adjust numeric value
Put the cursor in the input box, press arrow Up or Down to increase / decrease. Hold down Shift and press arrow Up or Down will change value in 10 interval.


Zoom to 100%
Double click on the Zoom tool will zoom document to 100%.


Collapse or expand all layer groups
You can collapse or expand all root-level layer groups by holding down Cmd + click on the triangle icon. Hold down Cmd + Opt + click on the triangle icon will collapse or expand all level layer groups.
