This Festive season no go easy, Not with the present state of the economy, here are what a few Nigerians have to say. .. I’ll want to spend more It seems like the older I get, the more expensive Christmas becomes. Subconsciously, I want to do better than last year’s Christmas. But of course, ‘better’ comes at a higher price. — Chukwunoyelum Odili I’ll target lower prices At another time of the year, the current economic fortunes of Nigeria would have certainly led to reduced spending, but business has somehow found a way to stay booming during Christmas. Like the saying goes, where there’s a will, there’s a way; consumers have been known to still find ways to make purchases irrespective of financial challenges. For me, however, I will become more critical about where I buy things from and in price negotiation or even settle for lower quality compared to what available resources could have purchased in the past. — Uche Okoro No lavish spending The economy is really bad this year and I plan to spend prudently because I don’t want to enter the New Year broke. I think it used to be better because I could ask for money from my parents at will. But now, I have allowances and I have to be prudent with my spending if I don’t want to go bankrupt. — Tobi Akinyede Low sales There is no money to celebrate the Christmas because traders are complaining of low sales, some workers have not been paid and prices of commodities are high. — Ihuoma Esinwoke Bleak Xmas I do not have money to spend this Christmas, let alone enough of it. Some civil servants have not been paid their November salary and December is almost going to an end. There is no hope. — Ucho Ugochukwu I’ll watch movies I cannot do the things I would love to do for Christmas because I do not have money for them, but I have money for fuel to use in my generator. At least I can watch movies with it. The reason is politicians are keeping all the cash for elections. — Kelvin Lawson Money is scarce People should learn to cut their coats according to their clothes. It is as simple as that. Nobody has enough money anywhere in Nigeria. — Eniola Murphy-Tare Cash-strapped The fuel and economic crisis in the country right now has left me cash-strapped because my earnings have been reduced as a result of the high cost of living. — David Nwosu I can’t overspend Christmas is really different this year. It was terrible last year, but this time, it’s on another level. Though I have as much as I’ve always had, I cannot overspend because there is school next year. Normally, on the streets you would see people running around trying to buy things in preparation for Christmas; funfair for children and others. Even Christmas decorations and lights are scanty this year. — Kenny Oluwatosin I’ll spend less I will ensure that I spend less on house accessories and cash-related transactions, which is against the usual plan for the season. Though there is never a right time for economic downturn, this season clearly is the worst time for such economic struggle. — Sola Afolabi I’ll cut down expenses With the economic downturn, this year has been worse compared to previous years, I would have to cut down on my expenses and buy only the very necessary things. I sincerely hope things get better next year. — Faith Ibigbemi Economy not favourable The prices of goods in the country are rising fast, just like cost of transportation due to the meltdown which will make it quite hard to travel and purchase the essential things one needs. The economic implication for me is that it will restrict my spending because I will start to focus more on what I need and not what I want. — Toyosi Kolawole I’ll cut cost December is always my favourite month of the year and Christmas is always the icing on the cake for me, regardless of my financial status. I placed an order for some shoes from abroad and they have yet to be delivered. The way things are going now, I will have to ask for a refund. With the rise of the dollar, I think I will make a good use of the money. — Feyi Oladewa I will cope I do not have a choice. I have money to take care of myself this Christmas, even with the hard times. But that does not mean there is enough money. I will cope with what I have this Christmas. — Chinedu Mark No spare money I have no spare money to spend this Christmas because of the current situation of things in the country. It can only be good when things get better. — Juliet Okwuonu Over to you Nairalanders, What have you got planned for Christmas, "Yes you reading this thread" |

After rediscovering some long forgotten photo albums around the house, I was thinking about ladies and their eyebrows. As a culture, I don't understande why ladies are extremely obsessed with eyebrows. There's no way you'd walk along the streets and not take notice of the various degrees in which women will arch, pluck, tweeze, wax and shave their brows into unnatural angles. Like the thin dramatic high arch brow or the thick and full brow with the softer angles. And then of course there is the already spoken on, yet equally mystifying, stenciled brows. It’s like out of all the body parts, eyebrows have the least utility and yet eyebrow shaping and grooming is virtually a necessity in some instances the most important facial grooming habit for Ladies. So why do ladies shave them off if they're only going to draw them back on again?

Been Driving on manual for a while now, I've started to doubt my driving technique. This is currently how I slow down: 1. Push clutch down 2. Apply brake 3. Come to a stop, or pop back into gear I don't touch my brake pedal unless my clutch pedal is on the floor. I've been doing some reading now and it seems like the proper method to slow down is to apply the brake first until you reach a low speed, then pushing down the clutch before coming to a complete stop to avoid stalling. Is my technique so bad enough for me to change? Or what's the proper way to use the clutch both for Engaging and disengaing gears or Stopping, To avoid wear and tear" |
