I spotted an error on the road already without taking a second look. I think Nigerians need serious education on road safety.

Those white lines you see on the road aren't for fancy or to demarcate the lanes, it means a lot to the driver. Those lines tell where you can and where you can't overtake.

The straight white lines mean you can't overtake here while the broken white lines means you can overtake here. Applying the broken white lines on a curve is erroneous because you are telling drivers to overtake in a curve.
@mybestlove. Broken white lines in the U.S. mean you are permitted to overtake a vehicle. I bet the people who painted the Milken Hill roads are unaware of that. Or maybe broken white lines means something else in Nigeria?

The corruption is so endemic that kids born a few decades ago think it is ok to accept and pay bribes. Like Spyder880 said, there is no oversight, or checks and balances. From the groundnut seller who cheats you with a modified measuring cup to the politicians, corruption has become rife and unchecked. @Oju4190. In my opinion, H-beam is stronger as long as you're using original(When I went to buy mine, they showed me the fake ones and the original ones). I used 4mm thick H- beams to build my 40-feet water tank stand. It cost me just under 1 million naira.

A government that cannot provide security, water, or basic infastructure is not a govt that is bothered about what kind of wire you use for your house

Which association Sir? Lol @ association.. If the government and it's Institutions cannot enforce quality control , I wonder who will. Ordinary piracy and copyright dem never tackle, talkess of something that puts billions in the right pockets.
@allCopacetic. I agree with you there. Most associations in Nigeria are just another avenue for bribery and corruption to fester. Until we have real checks and balances in this country, corruption and greed will continue to be a problem. Every individual in 9ja is a government unto his/herself-We build with our cash(with little or no access to credit facilities), we are our own NEPA(generator), and water corporation(borehole). Even our politicians that do the minimum and build subpar roads want us to hail them as gods.

I like this topic because we already know that in Nigeria, you must provide your own water. Therefore, a solid plan of where to hang tanks and done in a smart way that water can easily flow from gravity to service the building water forcets and toilets is as important today as building the house itself.

I think it is better to hang a medium weight tank on the building about 500 gallons only. If a way of getting up there to fix broken joints or leaking tank is easily factored into design of the building, then mounting the tank (Just 500 gallons) on the building will be a great and smart move.

But, making sure a hole exists in the decking where one can easily climb up there with a small ladder to fix the plumbing issue quickly must be provided if not it's not a good idea to put a leaking tank up there and let it leak for years without doing anything about it.

More importantly, builder should begin to revolutionize Rooftop Solar panels in Nigeria to help solve the electricity crisis in Nigeria and produce clean renewable electricity.

Solar panels will be the next goldmine for factories that will go into local production of high quality panels in Nigeria.
I’ve seen very few houses with rooftop solar panels, but I’ve been to many houses that have inverters in the house. Are the rooftop solar panels theft-proof?

This is colouring my people, I was fooled by the colour and even thought it to be of a better quality until I traced the block to the production point and asked questions. What they do is to go to where tyres are burnt, gather the black soot with dust and mix with sand and cement. The block comes out darker, leaving one with the impression that they are of higher strength. Meanwhile, Enugu seldom uses stone dust to make blocks, very rare.
I'll also admit that the darker color make the blocks look better. You're the expert Oga Spyder, and I bet you've checked to ensure using black soot from tires does not damage the integrity of the block.

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has said that cabals are frustrating the recently approved $198m maritime security contract.

Amaechi vowed to publicly mention names of saboteurs while speaking at a Maritime Stakeholders’ Interactive Forum held in Warri, Delta State on Thursday.

He said “Reason, why vessels will not come to the Eastern ports, is because there is war insurance due to insecurity in the ports here.

“The war insurance means if the goods cost N10,000 in Lagos, it will cost N20,000 here because there is an extra cost on it due to Insecurity issues. Even as a minister, I can’t enter a boat ride from Warri to Port Harcourt due to insecurity issues, but I can move around Lagos at any time of the day.

“I once asked a former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, why people from Anambra don’t import from Port Harcourt port, and he said it cost less to import from Lagos and move to Onitsha even with the price they pay on the road. It is cheaper to import from Lagos to Aba, yet Aba to Port Harcourt is a 30-minute drive.

“For shipowners, you need to do a petition to Mr President. The President approved a contract of $195m for maritime security, but there are people in the system sabotaging the contract because it will restore security in the water. I won’t say who they are until it gets out of control. We are still battling for the contract to take place, but if it gets out of place, we will name them publicly, including the security people involved.

“There are people who make billions of Dollars from the insecurity on the water, so they don’t want security on the water because if we secure the water, all their rubbish will go.

“There are businesses which provide the vessel for oil companies in the name of providing security. The moment we secure the water, they are out of jobs?

Does this vibrations happen always or on rare occassions sir?
Because almost all the boreholes in my area were done after the structures were built & already had occupants living in them.
Or could it be because of its closeness to the building?
@Rubbish. As you can see in the pic, my drilling was done close to the building. I guess it wasn't the vibrations or noise that bothered me the most, it was the fact that they couldn't get the drilling rig and vehicle at the spot I wanted them to drill because the main house was already up and there was not enough space.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: How To Identify A Fake Recruitment Outfit by WorldAmbassador: 3:03pm On Feb 23, 2018
JARUSHUB:
One of the many hurdles fresh graduates have to scale through in their quest to getting job is that of fake recruitment outfits. Unfortunately myriad of graduates fall victims to these fraudsters every day. This is, in no small means, affecting the job of Human Resources Professionals, as job seekers occasionally find it difficult to differentiate fake from real recruiters. To help exposed these dubious practitioners, below are some yardsticks.

1. CHARGES: This is the first sign of a fraudulent recruitment. Irrespective of the nomenclature given to collecting money from you, extortion is extortion, either at the beginning of the process, middle or end of the exercise. As soon as you notice any kind of charge in a bid to getting you job, make a U-turn. Some of them hide under the guise of being outsourcing firms and that they run their business with the ‘token’ charged their clients (job seekers). Far from it. REAL outsourcing firms don’t make a dime from job seekers; they make their monies from their clients - employer.

2. LENIENT SCREENING PROCESS: Apart from the usual unprofessional ‘man-know-man’ screening for ‘special’ applicants, in any recruitment screening process where you have a walk over, where everything is waived, and at the end of it, the recruiter still offers you the job; be cautious as such recruiter is a likely suspect of fake agency.

3. MEANS OF APPLICATION: The means of application for job says a lot about the recruiter. You can get to tell a serious recruiter from a fake one through how their adverts expect you to apply for the job. You shouldn’t expect anything serious from a recruiter who requires you to apply for an opening through SMS. Similarly requesting application through any other unconventional way is a sign of fake recruitment outfits. That is not to say all recruitment outfits that require you to apply through the conventional ways are genuine, some of them try as much as possible to imitate the normal recruitment process only to lead you to a point where your moral is at its peak and then demand for some money with pleasant description.

4. CONTENT OF THE INVITE: There is are minimum requirement in the content of any interview invite: The name of the recruiting/employing firm, the position you are being considered for, the location of the interview, the time and date of the interview. Whenever any or some of the above is missing in any job interview invitation you get, please be double sure before you head to such destination. Many job seekers have fallen prey of kidnappers in a bid to earn a livelihood. But with these, you are at least 50% sure of not getting into the wrong hand. That is not to say some scammers won’t scale through this test and that some genuine companies won’t fall short of these minimum requirements due to the ignorance of the person in charge of their recruitment. But with this and other points being considered you are sure of not going wrong.

5. UNPROFESSIONAL CORRESPONDENCE: For those who are used to receiving mail from the internet scammers you will agree with me that one of the ways of identifying that scam mails is through their blunders. They are prone to bad grammar or careless typos. Same thing is applicable to fake recruitment outfits. Because they are not professionals, their correspondences are always fraught with blunders.
Good advice, but some of the jobs that I have applied for and got, charges were involved. The Peace Corps job cost me N50,000 plus money for boots and uniform. Still no guarantee that it will take off as PMB has not signed the Bill yet

There was a survey done. The results showed that drilling to 70m would be sufficient. Now, drilling up to 18m has come with so much vibrations that they're scared it's gonna compromise structural integrity. The borehole guy wants to continue work but with less heavy machinery. Engineer is advising that I just get a well dug. I'm at a loss.
In that case, I will defer to the experts to advise you on this. there was so much vibrations when they dug mine as well and they couldn't get the drill inside the plot where I wanted the borehole drilled because the main building was in the way. On my next project, I will get a borehole drilled first before putting up the main structure

Hello house, I've got a major issue on my site. Had to stop drilling the borehole at 18m because my engineer said the vibrations can affect the building. The original estimated depth was 70m. How does one get around this kind of challenge?

Cc skimanski, spyder880, rotech77, kolashangone.
@peterphd. At 18 m did he drilll into an aquiferous zone? If there is no water (very low yield) at 18 m, then a geophysical survey would've been done before you engaged the borehole driller.

Okomu Oil Palm Plc, Nigeria’s second-largest producer of palm oil, expects its sales will probably slow for the rest of the year due to a supply glut and weak consumer demand.

Are we expecting something negative from Okomu this year.
@Obagadaffi. I read the news and I don't think it is due to a glut of palm oil in the market. Rather, most people probably go for locally made palm oil(which is a lot cheaper) and this hurts Okomu's bottom line. I have once bought Okomu's refined palm oil called Banga Oil for over 4,000 Naira-it's too expensive.

On the other hand, I read in the Punch that the CBN is barring banks with huge Non-Performing loans from paying dividends.

Question: why do kitchens and bathrooms/toilets get tiled from floor to ceiling all four walls in Nigeria? In Europe (not sure of US, but I believe same), just the space between the worktops and wall cabinets are tiled, the rest of the wall is just painted. Same with bathrooms, most times just half tiling, and the rest of the wall painted. See example pics below:
I think tiling the kitchen/toilet wall and floor makes cleaning the kitchen and toilet easier. I may be wrong, but I don't think a white man will fry yam in a frying pan with palm oil it in. It can be very messy and the hot palm oil spatters on the walls and floor grin grin
