Well, I have a lot of share certificate I need to dematerialize, and a lot of unclaimed dividend going as far back as 10 years ago. I'm tired of filling forms and sending by mail or scanned copies. They are never replied.
I bought some shares through Morgan capital and still I can't get my dividend despite filling all the papers and sending them by post since they no longer accept scanned copies.
I can't travel to Lagos just to submit transfer forms or e- dividend forms. What other options do I really have?

@Desanta.I dematerialized my shares by filling out the e-dividend forms (I printed them out them from the Registrar's website), then used courier to mail them out using the tracking service. When the mail was delivered to the respective Registrars, I then called and sent email to them until they got them done. Hope this helps.

A simple question :

Are these 2 banks part of the 7 SIBs?

FCMB has a total assets of 1.5b+ while FIDELITY has 1.9b+

Another one that I think could be part of the SIB could be STANBIC (Total assets of 1.6b+)

Maybe CBN shouldn’t have announced that 7 banks failed a stress test. There is now hysteria as people are trading on the news. Some are even closing their bank accounts. Everyone knows the Tier 1 banks-Zenith, GTB and Access.

Based on the news, even the Tier-1 banks may have to recapitalize because our Naira has lost a lot of value since the last capitalization exercise under Soludo

Please o, our American based brothers, I want to ask something.

I do see some American houses using wood for flooring and walling in some section of their house and I know these are durable woods...

My question is, do we have this kind of woods in Nigeria?

Hardwood flooring tiles are used for flooring in the U.S. It is simply layers of plywood that are glued together in some cases.(Not sure if it is in Nigeria, but I know in Primary School we were told plywood is gotten from Sapele).
Laminate flooring tile on the other hand, is simply a image or picture of wood that is glued to a fiberboard or plank. Laminates nowadays look and feel like real wood, but it is just a high quality picture of the real wood.

Hardwood are very durable but cannot be installed in bathrooms or areas of high humidity because they can warp. Laminates can be installed almost anywhere.

Properties / Re: Ajaokuta Steel Company Debacle by WorldAmbassador: 6:36am On Sep 01, 2018
podosci:

Setbacks/challenges that plagued the project from the onset have been highlighted below

- Non-development of the raw material site and Infrastructure.

One of the popular attributes of the Nigerian state is building a dam without a river. In 1973, when Iron ore of the required quantity and quality was discovered in Itakpe, a chain reaction that would lead to the development of the Ajaokuta steel company was set in motion. Even thou the Ajaokuta steel mill was started in 1979, the award of the contract for the construction of the rail line to bring the raw materials to the steel mill and to Warri, Delta state to serve the world market was not awarded until 1987. The rail line is still incomplete as of today and the contract for the completion has been awarded to the China Civil Engineering construction company.

- Non-availability of indigenous capacity to operate and manage the plant
The Ajaokuta steel plant has a highly sophisticated assemblage of 43 different plants out of which 40 are already completed. The complexity of the operations led to the involvement of foreign experts from the start.

In 1970, TYAZHPROMEXPORT (TPE), a Russian company were initially contracted to carry out a geological survey of the iron ore deposits and later to prepare the preliminary project report for the proposed Ajaokuta steel company.in 1979, TPE started the project and executed it to 98% completion in 1994.

In 2003, The Ajaokuta steel plant was conceded to Messrs SOLGAS ENERGY, an American firm on a 10-year tenure. The concession was terminated by the federal government of Nigerian due to Non-performance.

In 2005, Another concession was granted to Global Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (GINL), an India company. The contract was also revoked by the Federal Government due to Non- performance.

The history of Ajaokuta steel company is interwoven with management by foreign companies. Although the management and operation of the Ajaokuta steel plant is currently in the hands of the Nigerian Federal Government, there are already plans for another round of concessions to viable foreign companies.

- Corruption
Nigeria is plagued by a virus diagnosed as corruption. This virus as affected every sphere of the Nigeria state of which the Ajaokuta Steel company is not immune.

From an over bloated project sum to the concession of the steel company to non-viable actors. The Ajaokuta steel company has suffered heavily from the fatal illness called corruption.

Every now and then, the debate about the Ajaokuta steel debacle props up, the Nigerian National Assembly collects sitting allowance to discuss the issue, project vehicles are purchased to visit the steel company and money is allocated for the maintenance of the dilapidated steel company. All this adds to the cost of a project that as yet to be completed 40 years down the line.

Below are possible solutions to the debacle faced by the Ajaokuta steel company.

- Enter renegotiation with the original designer and builder of the steel plant (TYAZHPROMEXPORT) to complete the project.

- Critical evaluation of the state of assets in the steel company to identify those that need replacement.

- Critical Investment analysis of the Ajaokuta steel company.

- Development of indigenous capacity to operate and manage the steel plant.

- Political will to ensure completion of the project.

- Adopting the report by the Nigerian society of Engineers recommending the unbundling of the of the sector into an upstream sector
focused on raw materials and the downstream sector, a metallurgical company.

Despite consuming $10billion of public funds, it is estimated that the Ajaokuta steel company requires an additional $2billion to attain 100% completion and roll out its first sheet of steel. Until its operational, the Ajaokuta steel company would continue to be a drain in the government pockets through the allocation of funds for payment of salaries to the steelworkers and the maintenance of the non-operation steel plant. An operational Ajaokuta steel company would the backbone of the Nigerian diversification and industrialization drive, with a potential to boost the economy and provide employment opportunities for thousands of Nigerians.

@podosci. Thanks for your article on the Ajaokuta saga. An article by Kalu Aja regarding the Ajaokuta mess is also worth reading. After reading the article by Kalu Aja, you will weep at the corruption that bedevils our dear country. The article can be accessed here: https://nairametrics.com/why-ajaokuta-steel-company-cannot-produce-steel/

Steptiles are not durable at all. The longspan aluminium roof on my BQ has not leaked since it was done in 2011, but the steptile roof on the main house has at least 2 leaks already. And the steptiles were more expensive and done in 2016. Go figure.

Infact I've never used 0.45mm steptile before for any client.

My motto Is, If you can't afford 0.55mm gauge steptile, go for 0.45mm longspan.

@KolaShangOne. Although the roofer came in and repaired the leak at no charge, i've learnt my lesson. I'll go with longspan or shingles next time. Beauty is not everything. Thanks

They are usually more beautiful to look at, but experience has shown the likelihood of water passing from spaces and crevices in roofing types like step tiles and Metcoppo types. If you use a long span roof, the flow of water is usually smooth, not too different from the old corrugated zink types of the old.

The problem with the step tiles is the relative ease of water jumping through the gaps left by the designs in the corrugation. There seems to be more space left with step tiles, there also seems to be overflows that spill over the gutter placed under roof valleys. To prevent this problem, use a method we call "double lapping" but it might add another 10% to the roofing sheets budget at it involves using more roofing materials.

By design, machines can perforate roofing sheets if the machines are faulty. In this attached picture, a lot of work was put in to find the leaking spot, but it wasn't possible for a long time because it was coming from an area with a tear coming from the top of the building, this could present more problems especially when the house scaffolding has been removed. This will mean that a scaffolding be done, or hired to climb the top of the house.

@Spyder880. Steptiles and Metcoppo-style roofing are really more beautiful and stylish than longspan aluminium roofing sheets. Thanks for the information.

I will write about my findings later today.

We are earnestly waiting for all artisans to inform us. I bought steptiles roofing sheets for the beauty of it, but fast forward 2 years later, it started leaking in more than 2 places cry. I guess in my next build, I am going back to longspan aluminium sheets.

I spotted an error on the road already without taking a second look. I think Nigerians need serious education on road safety.

Those white lines you see on the road aren't for fancy or to demarcate the lanes, it means a lot to the driver. Those lines tell where you can and where you can't overtake.

The straight white lines mean you can't overtake here while the broken white lines means you can overtake here. Applying the broken white lines on a curve is erroneous because you are telling drivers to overtake in a curve.

@mybestlove. Broken white lines in the U.S. mean you are permitted to overtake a vehicle. I bet the people who painted the Milken Hill roads are unaware of that. Or maybe broken white lines means something else in Nigeria?
