I am neither for the Discos or the Consumers, just want to clear up some mis-information with accurate info i have access every now and then via my job.

1. The current tariff is not cost reflective for investment by the discos on critcal infrastructure neededfor upgrades (this infrastructure are meters, transformers, feeders and maintenance equipment etc)

2. The Discos do not have access to loans from banks or investors because they are deep in the Red with their books and the current model being operated makes no sense for any normal business man to invest in so they only get funds from agencys/govt to keep the industry running

3. No disco/genco has declared profit for a month since inception (this icould be either due to bad management or huge losses)

4. A huge amount of investment is required like "9jakhoai" mentioned but it also not meant to come from the public (this is because the time it will take to pull public funds together to invest will make the system collapse so what is obtainable world wide is loans and then you service the loans from the public funds you obtain - however since nobody will grant the discos loan cos of their dire situation, then the public funds become ever so critical)

5. discos still give out estimated bills to metered customers (old analog metered customers)

6. Targets exist but his is because energy theft is beyond normal comprehension in the country and a marketer is told we supplied 2 million worth of energy to your transformer which is true by the way but half of the people in that community are "consumers" not "customers" so the marketer has to share the bill as estimated to the customers and then people complain.

7. A state of emergency needs to be declared in the power sector not to revisit privatisation but to let privatisation work in the true sense, just the way it was done with fuel subsidy - If discos cant charge a fair price for power and we want uninterrupted power or even stable power then we have a problem

8. the only thing that can drive prices down is competition (which happened with gsm) and cheaper operating conditions (when raw materials are produced locally instead of imported). the discos original licence will expire next year then we can see what governments next move will be!

I hope this points help direct some of the beautiful arguments have read this morning with a lot of people assuming "9ja" guy is crazy or a disco/genco worker but he does have some salient and valid points and so do others here. My motive was simply to enlighten people on what some of the root causes of our energy problems are.

P.s : I dont think naija can do nuclear cos we are to emotional and unstable and some upset people might decide to make a stand by attempting to blow up such infrastructure
2. to develop a nuclear program requires consent from G8 countries and other western powers who will never grant us such at this time and if we insist, they will direct heavy sanctions at us among other reasons
Points damn accurate!

I happen to back Nuclear, solar and waste generation power plants for Nigeria by the way.

But all these cost money...which means spending above $100billion.(A nuclear power plant costs $9billion per unit. Our external reserves in $30billion).

Besides...when I suggest we go nuclear here...people jump on me as an 'enemy'....so...
So you're advocating for the masses to produce thier own electricity by paying for what they never consumed? Are you aware Nigerians have been buying their own transformers for decades?

South Africa has an economy of 27something billion dollars and have kick started 3 nuclear power generating stations.

Nigeria with over 500 billion dollar economy hasn't started any and is forcing her citizens of 200 million to share 5 thousand mega watt!!!

Nice advocacy.

**Modified**

...and Russia did propose to build 3 nuclear plants for free. But the Nigerian government is incompetent as a sedated baboon thrust into a circus show!

OK....I am a disco worker (me that used to fight disco for meter at one stage....hehehe)

IN my opinion....our power system needs a lot of cash...and that cash must be raised.

It is a sad thing...and I wish it werent true...but there it is.

SO.....we need to find $100bn to improve generating capacity, and N5 trillion to fix transmission.

I wish I had better ideas on how to raise the money....but apart from sacrificing millions of chickens and goats to the money goddess....
Oh Man, get your facts right and stop brainwashing the masses that skipping meter lines and all other craps is what's making our power generation unstable.

No where in the land of humans, aliens and spirits does a country of 200 million use a stupid hydroelectric dams solely or primarily for power generation in 2017.

This is same infrastructure we were using when our population was below 70 million.

South Africa immediately after the apathied regime fell apart and electricity was expanded to rural black areas they went nuclear in generating power. Even when already producing over 40,000 MW. And this country is just 53 million the size of Lagos and Kano! What a shame!!!

Egypt of about 60 million or so has gone nuclear generation of power.

Nigeria is still pussyfooting. And draging location and terms with Russia.

Abi the high cost of fuel would also be blamed on marketers and distributors when our refineries aren't working.

You're impossible!

No clear cut infrastructural plans.
So you're in Enugu. Hope you're aware the Enugu Government filled a case to EFCC on EEDC's fraudulent charges and billings and the thieves had to beg and reduce the billing.

What a mad uncorrelated point!!!

It took Buhari to stop you thieves from collecting fixed charges even on pre paid customers.

You're reluctant to provide meter to the vast majority of Nigerians because you enrich yourselves with bill estimation.

The Government has ordered you to stop billing un- metred customers on two occasions but you're incompetent as much as you're a law breaker.

Your power generation is idiotic and nonexistent and your bills are rising at the same time.

And you're here trying to do damage control.

2.ANd yes....I include govt agencies and company as people who are part of the bill skippers.....infact if you do not pay your bills...whether govt or individual....you are sabotaging our effort to get power.

3.We need money to make the improvements needed for power. JUst now...we need (according to one estimate ) $100billion just to improve power generation (HInt...our external reserves are at $32billion).

4.Hydroelectric power isn't archaic...and besides...where do you expect GENCOS to get the money to build new ones or upgrade exisiting ones if you and govt agencies do not pay up your bills.

5.Enemy of the common people? I pay my power bills..it is those who do not pay their bills...whether individuals or entities that are doing us wrong.

It is a good idea.....a very good idea.

Thing is, people who bypass meters and refuse to pay their power bills are a big part of the reason why we don't have light 24 hours a day.

Our power sector needs money, and the vast majority of it is going to have to come from our pockets. So, if people keep on bypassing the meter, or stealing power...and then expect light to be on 24/7, they are just deceiving themselves.

AM sure that most of the people who are doing this , if they were running businesses and they allowed customers to take their goods without paying....they would get broke.

Nigerians....we have to pay to get light. Sorry, but that is privatization.

When the government is still struggling to generate a laughable 4,000 MW?

Are you aware nearly all Government agencies don't pay their NEPA bills, from police, army, custom , navy , ministries, local government secretariat....these agencies and institutes owe billions in backlogs for decades.

Nigeria is still using archaic hydroelectric power generation producing a laughable 4000mw , when Eskom in South Africa is producing 40,000 and it's government owned.

Don't be a senseless enemy of the common people!

Mrluv:
Today something happened that makes me speechless. There is one guy that bought a used phone from somebody in his street. He was tracked all the way from ogun state and picked up in his shop here in lagos.

According to the police, the phone was a stolen phone and the owner was kidnapped and ransom of 2 million was collected from him.

The reason i brought the story here. So the gurus in the house can help us that normally buy used phone. What is the first thing to do if we buy a used phone in case the phone was a stolen phone. Am not a thief ooo am only saying this for prevention purpose in case if we don't know that the phone was a stolen phone. As we all know all hands are not equal. If all of us can acquire what we want, I don't think anyone will want to buy used phone.
Phone tracking comes into two types. Third party apps downloaded by users themselves and the other one is inbuilt by the phone manufacturers.

I won't go into details but if you see a sweet phone and bought it 2nd hand genuinely , it's not a crime, it's done all over the world by even rich people. The fact is Nigeria police are lazy, opportunistic dirty skanks who are too lazy to do investigation but will always choose to look for the easiest way out.

*3rd party apps can be gotten rid off my formatting or rooting using custom ROM.

But if you cannot do this, always check your credit, any unexplained SMS reduction or shortages in your credit should ring the alarm bells as your phone could be sending coded SMS containing your number to a pre-programmed phone.

* If your GPS location settings comes up when you didn't prompt it directly or use an app to activate it, then be weary as some phones inbuilt security uses the GPS to track a missing phone.

* Go to your internet data usage and see which apss are taking up your data. You may be surprised to see unknown / hidden apps making use of your data too.

These are some signs your phone is being tracked.

Your argument is designed to suit your own interpretation of the constitution......It's in black & white. The primary objective will be achieved....
you cannot accuse me of rewriting facts when I just pointed to you the military is in no position to investigate and do police work on its own. No law supports it.

Before the military could be deployed, our civil authorities (police) must be overwhelmed and the military could come under the summon of the President with conditions set by an act of parliament.

In both python dance 11 and crocodile smile, the police have not been overwhelmed and needed no aid as there wasn't even violence. And in any circumstances, the military should come under the command of the police in all civilian operations.

Don't be a victim of 3rd world distortion!

Section 217

Wrong !!!

You cannot by any stretch interpret section 2 subjection C to include what the army is doing with python dance or crocodile smile.

The keyword there is ACTING IN AID OF CIVIL AUTHORITIES TO RESTORE ORDER.

that's actually aiding the police not leading the charge or doing it alone.

Funny how small countries like Ghana has mastered this act by using their army to supplement their police by putting the police in charge of the army during civilian operations!

Crocodile smile and python dance are military invasions and occupation and a complete violation of section 2 subsection C.

You also ignored the conditions therein stating the conditions that may be prescribed by an act of the national assembly.

Sorry mate...the military is trained to combat crime and carry out investigations as well incase you dont know. Thats why they have the intelligence corps.
And again, it is not Buhari that is destroying the country, it is our politicians (on all sides) that have destroyed the country.....
The army has a duty to protect the country from all enemies (foreign and domestic) or external & internal aggression as you have presented it. It is same in every country in the world.
Lets call a spade a spade.....
What section of the constitution or any other laws authorise the military to fight civilian crime?
PoliticsRe: Military To Begin Operation Crocodile Smile In Ogun State by WrathOfHadez(m):
There's no military training anywhere that orientates soldiers on crime solving or investigation or in dealing with civilians in a peaceful atmosphere.

Same army who is still looking for Shekau and unable to deal with terrorism for the last 7 years are now fully circumventing the police in what they are never trained to do.

Gradually Buhari is destroying this country from all angles. We have been expecting a time soon when the military will know its proper place in a democracy with all its years of abuse and unprofessionalism...

... but it's going to be a long long time before the army realise that her duty is protecting Nigeria's borders against EXTERNAL aggression, and never to police the civilian population.
