Faleke was not voted, he was selected.

He is only a recognized entity after swearing in by virtue of the provisions of the constitution of Nigeria

Food / Re: Health Implications Of Eating Too Much Bread. by wytecat: 11:13am On Nov 25, 2015
I don't think it's figure friendly, and you can't lose weight eating bread or any other refined carbs. I'll gain weight for just looking at bread. I notice pretty girls with what look like 5 months pregnancies in Nigeria, those are wheat tummies, and what bread will do to your if you don't stop eating it. Some even deceive themselves with wheat moulds which is even worse than our good old eba. I still eat eba in moderation(about my fist size and get on treadmill or 2 miles power walk) and drink gari instead of salty and MSG filled noodles that look and taste horrible. Who is even regulating that thing

First of, you were not the intended 5%, you burrowed it. And are you saying that you are afraid to take what belongs to you? Or you are slaves that need to be set free? Yoruba are doing their little part to support your agitation, but what we can't do is lead you in biafra cause, it's yours alone to fight for, we can't cry more than the bereaved, and there are ways to go about your secession just like those before you, take one, either the peaceful or violent, choose one and pursue it like you mean it.

Please help me tell your Oga @ the top to allow the so called crime 5% have their Biafra. Thanks in advance.

Drain! the leader of the gang is caught and you are here telling stories, the head is the life of everything. We all know you ibos are responsible for 3/4 of the crimes in Nigeria, and no one is surprised when your names are mentioned. It's always expected of you ibos because of your mischief makeup. But with the other Nigerians is different.

Nice!
I was surprised to see any part of ondo on biafra map until yesterday, Now I know.
Biafra is still being pushed, no one knows the way it's going but we have seen the maps, and if what I've read here is anything to go by, when nigeria splits ilaje of ondo will be in the republic of niger delta if they don't go with biafra. That's important for we Yoruba to know now because non Yoruba must not be allowed in the new Yoruba country.

Yasere - king spokesperson/second in command
Logbosere - kingmaker
Oliha - chief priest

NB: as an ijebu person that you are we have no qualms with you people as we r one

@ the bolded ilaje was and has never been part of biafra...it's a fictional map...though ilaje was under Benin Kingdom back then.
Was there anything like biafra in the 19th century?
I doubt

You must be living in a lala land to not have seen or heard about artifacts of Yoruba culture. The museum of natural history in Atlanta held a Yoruba festival with display of hundreds of artifacts but we are yet to see one held for bini, that's because bini don't have enough to put on display and whatever bini have was not originally theirs, and museum had to go to the source.

What do they mean in your language?

iyasere = is a female/mother title
'Iogbosere' this spelling is not clear enough but anything ogboni is Yoruba
Olisa = lower king, we still have olisa of ijebu ode.

I'm not saying ilaje are Yoruba, you saw me asked ilaje44, and he couldn't say yes or no, but at least this explains the reason some biafra maps have ondo as part of their territory, and I've just learnt something new. I call people what they want to be called.

dejavski:

There should be a kind of backup to your claims that there were great empires in yorubaland. Things like historical texts and artifacts Should give proof just like the Great Benin Empire. At least they have backup of their historical claim. The iyoba artifact comes to mind. Also their historical texts can be found in the British museum.

Like I said earlier the only close group to ours in SW are the ijebus and our ondo brothers.
I will like to know the meaning of the following monarchical title in yoruba:
-yasere?
-logbosere?
-oliha?
Please enlighten me to know which dialect in yorubaland bears these titles apart from ilajes

Talking about what you don't know is almost sinful. You just don't know what you just said. There's no difference in the monarchical heritage among Yoruba. Every family in Yorubaland has a tradition of worshipping one of the gods. In my family it's ogun(and I'm sure most of my sisters, brothers and cousins don't know this but, because I was raised by my grandmother and regarded as omo agba I had some information about them)while the next door neighbor was Ayelala. Go to interior part of ogun and see families that worship Olokun, every family has orisa, though many are moving away from them in big cities but many go to the villages to worship them secretly. In small towns you would see imale/oro families, mention the orisa and you will find the worshippers in Yoruba land. Do you know that we even have witches festival? You have to be in the rural areas to see it. All the orisa you worship are from Yoruba.

You want me to google what happened in 14th to 19th century? Sorry google is not credible enough for that, just about anything can be found on google. You can only speak for your tribe and not Yoruba.

There was never an empire close to Oyo in all of the south of Nigeria, and you don't need google to tell you that if you can see clearly.
dejavski:

In my opinion yoruba is more like a group of people with mutual relationship that have lived together for a long time in peace and harmony. In other words you cannot call yoruba a tribe. This is because most of these clans do not have common cultural and monarchial heritage.
I haven't come across anywhere in yorubaland where they celebrate Aiyelala or umale or umalokun festival as it's being celebrated here in ilaje.
Same also lies to other dialects such as Owo Ikale and so on.
The only thing you can celebrate general is the Ogun festival which is also celebrated in Benin.
For the monarchical System, the ilaje System was derived from benin Kingdom. The same applies t ikales.
Why didn't we hear of a dominant yoruba Empire in the 14th century up till 19th century? Even the Oyo empire we hear of had its boundaries and territories(google it) it didn't extend to the eastern parts such as ijebus Owos ilajes ikales etc

I know it was niger delta lovefest, but the moment Yoruba was mentioned in it, we had to set the record straight.

You still cannot speak for all Yoruba dialect especially when it took others to correct you about ijebu. Ijebu has it, Egba do and I still believe other Yoruba dialects have it but we just have to hear others to know who is right about that.

And where exactly did you say the ijebu dialect falls again?

You should have just said Ilajes are Yoruba or they are NOT instead of the defense route you took. I have my reason for asking and I know what I have believed all along but, wanted to hear from you since we all know how some claim Yoruba when it's convenient and distant themselves when it's not or how some are neither here nor there. The first few posts even suggested Ilaje is different from Yoruba and I didn't see you correct that.

Ilaje44:

The discussion here is about the Ilajes and Itsekiris. The OP said the word is common to both groups, and he was corrected. You said all Yoruba groups use dede which is quite wrong. That's why I said even among the Southeastern (I indeed wrongly wrote Southwestern) Yoruba group, not even all use dede.

Hence, it's not true that all Yoruba Dialects use "dede" as used by the Ilajes, Ikales, Apois etc.

The Yoruba dialectical continuum is linguistically divided into three branches.

The Northwestern Yoruba e.g. Oyo
The central Yoruba e.g. Ife
The southeastern Yoruba e.g. Ilaje

You will find both the aspect of NWY and SEY in central Yoruba, because they are the bridge connecting the other two. If I remember correctly, Ijebu seems to be among the central Yoruba along with Ife.

Why are you asking if Ilajes are Yoruba? I don't partake in the childish and futile ethnic discussions as common on Nairaland. However, I can assure you that Ilajes don't have identity crisis. Oma Olufe a gha rin.
This is embodied in some of our tales too like the story of "Elero":
...
Ufe yi duro ma wi re Ufe
Ufe yi duro ma wi re Ufe
Awa mokanla Elero bi o Ufe
J'Elero wa sa aghan rire rire oma re r'Ufe o Ufe
Ufe gbo temi ma t'ara r'Ufe o Ufe...

Ufe = ule Ufe/ile Ife

Politics / Re: Two Men Stopped From Boarding US Plane After Speaking Arabic by wytecat: 5:55am On Nov 22, 2015
You asked a question that has nothing to do with issues on ground.
2 is different from 100

Hearing 2 people speaking Arabic is different from having 1/3 of the fellow passengers speaking Arabic.

You don't need a terrorist on board to bomb a plane and the plane that's packed with Arabs may even be safer as they would not want to kill themselves unnecessarily, just saying, not that I'm an insider. They even set those who could recite Qur'an free in Mali.
IlekeHD:

So what's different between 2 or 100, when the likelihood of bombing the plane is the same? It takes just one of them.

Politics / Re: Two Men Stopped From Boarding US Plane After Speaking Arabic by wytecat: 5:46am On Nov 22, 2015
One is different from almost 100, and none needs to be on board to bring a plane down, bomb can be put in a check-in bags like Russia bound plane.

And yes, two people speaking Arabic won't stop me from boarding a plane.
IlekeHD:

It takes only one of them. Just one.
Politics / Re: Two Men Stopped From Boarding US Plane After Speaking Arabic by wytecat: 5:34am On Nov 22, 2015
You shouldn't! It doesn't apply in this case.

Politics / Re: Two Men Stopped From Boarding US Plane After Speaking Arabic by wytecat: 5:26am On Nov 22, 2015

Culture / Re: Similarities And Differences Between Ilaje And Itsekiri by wytecat: 4:43am On Nov 22, 2015
What is not true in what I said?

You initially went with only those two dialects use 'dede' or at least you didn't bring it up that others like ijebu use the word as well. If you didn't know that Ijebu say 'dede', until others raised it, don't you think that you really don't know how others say it in their dialects?

What is ijebu classified as if not one of southwestern Yoruba dialects?

And one more thing; Are Ilajes Yoruba?

Ilaje44:

That's not totally true. Even in Ondo/Ekiti States, not everyone uses "dede". Some use "gede", while some others especially Ekitis use "kete". Ijebu and Ilaje are related, even though Ijebus are not classified among the Southwestern Yoruba dialects. Some Egba names do sound Ilaje to me e.g.: Afuwape.

@ Op, you haven't found the word that's just for these two alone. You can't stay for 2 minutes in Ijebu area without hearing 'dede'. Ijebu say, Omo ijebu dede.
Egba too use dede. You would find dede in every Yoruba dialect.

Ohaneze igbos said this to federal ministers,

"we expect them to close ranks and work towards developing igboland".

What about other regions? This is something I knew already and just bringing it to other people's attention. And this is the reason why I think Buhari made a mistake by giving the TRADE & INVESTMENT to ibos. The ibo man will block all investment going to other regions especially SW(their number one enemy) and divert all to the SE just as the Stella Oduah prevented some flights to the SW and North but forced them to the Enugu until Kwankwanso threatened her.

Ibos are not capable of handling a ministry that is important to all regions considering the animosity they have towards others especially Yoruba. Fayemi should have been given that instead. Well, I guess Nigerians still have a lot to learn about this people!
