Properties / Re: Don't Lose Your House To A Bulldozer: The Dangers Of Buying Property In Lagos by xandy84: 6:21pm On Mar 19
Not all swampy land are protected but the biggest issue here is house is likely to be your biggest investment and it's your responsibility to make sure you did not buy or build on land that is protected. That is a simple logic.

TechCapon:
if it's a crime as you said so why are the government people allocating those same lands to themselves. Go to happyland estate, all the swampy lands have been shared to government officials.
Properties / Re: Don't Lose Your House To A Bulldozer: The Dangers Of Buying Property In Lagos by xandy84: 6:01pm On Mar 19
What you are saying is the real problem we face as a Nigerian. Building on a wet/swamp land will cost you your freedom, and you will pay the fees to return the land to very state in US. Ronaldinho was sentenced to 2 years for building on a protected land in Brazil. Nigeria government only demolished houses without arresting and sending people who build on such land to jail, but if you do that in other countries, you will end up in jail.
It is not the duty of government to do your findings for you, it is your duty to make sure to protect you biggest assets. Government does not tell you what car to buy, while do they tell you where to build a house?
We always assume we can get away with things as a Nigerian and when things does not go our way, we claim the victim. Every land are marked and a simple research will show if such land is wet land and not allow for building so other purposes.
Buying the most expensive thing in our lives should include diligent findings and not buy and ask questions later.

TechCapon:
u made some valid points but you didn't give any real solution. I was speaking to a real estate developer in a bank the other day and he lamented how the process of getting governor's consent or C of O is so frustrating and can take years with so many corrupt officials in alausa who will collect money from clients and syphon it. Nigeria is a messed up place especially lagos angry
Nothing justifies these demolitions except the wicked heart of a black man. Most of these lands were acquired when those places are swampy and forests and these people developed it into estates only to come many years later and bring it down.
why not tell them to pay fines and make the whole process smooth and transparent before commencing demolition. Another thing also is that Lagos state govt is full of land grabbers, they move around choice estates and demolish houses only to allocated those same lands to themselves. Whether u have documents or not it doesn't matter. They'll still win you in court.

ICE detainer means immigration want you to be transfer to there custody when you finish serving your time and they will start deportation proceedings. Since he has a green card, he will go thru immigration court and he can make bail and be release while his case is going thru immigration proceedings but the law is written in black and white. A green card holder who commit a felony is subject to deportation.
He need God's intervention because he is closer to Naija than anything bro. That is the fact.

He is due for release by May.
I was informed ICE already filed a DETAINER.

Family / Re: Nigerian Man Living In South Africa Needs Help Reconnecting Back Home by xandy84: 2:50pm On Mar 14
You just nailed it. Nigeria is better than some countries and not every japa make sense. Traveling to India to go hustle while Indians are traveling to other countries to go hustle is called hustling backward. There are jobs you can do in Nigeria and make a living and be better off compare to people who travel to some countries but we Nigerian do not have dignity in labor. We believe some jobs are beneath us. A simple saying I learned as I grow up is no job is beneath you as long as it pays your bill.

Cantonese:
Hmm.

Out of desperation many have travelled abroad and found themselves stranded. Many get stranded because they look out for the easiest way to make money in those countries. With no yahoo, drug or prostitution to do for their living, they get stuck.

You find such people all over the world, but the worst areas are Asia and the Middle East.

I was in New Delhi, India, not too long ago. At that market places called INA market one young man approached me asking for 100 rupees for food. My associate wondered if what the young man asked for was real or not. I said na money e dey beg for so. The next “how e take reach this country”. Me too I said na plane e enter plus visa join.

It is very sad.

In spite of the self inflicted hardship, opportunities abound in Nigeria. Indians want to come here.

Motor boys on tippers and trailers make more money monthly than some bank staff. Those boys who load up tippers with sand make plenty of money daily. Those boys who pack your goods in cartons take home over 10K daily depending on patronage. Some call these things menial, but those who engage in them build houses from their jobs.

Dangote employed thousand of Nigerians and he is enemy of Nigeria according to you while politicians employ nobody, steals the country blind but you can understand.
Here is how economics of a country is run. Companies like Google, Walmart, Microsoft etc that employs millions of Americans call the short by giving their inputs on what economic policies the government should pursue.
A whole state in US will make new laws to accommodate a company cos they create jobs. When Disney was having problem in Frorida, my home state of Virginia offer Disney, free land, tax free for 10 years to attract them cos of the 80k jobs. Such rules include lots of perks and freebies. What Dangote get is what he is entitled to cos he creates lots of jobs. That is how you attract jobs.

CountinBlessins:

Exactly!! alot of coys like Dangote were engaged in unethical anti progressive practices. Tell me if Dangote was so good to our economy , he has been running a government backed monopoly on sugar and cement for decades , why dont we have a sugar cain plantation? why dont we have billionaire farmers who made billions from selling sugar to dangote for decades? are you seeing it clearly?

People like Dangote are a danger to Nigeria and her economy! Dangote used his fulani cabal backed monopoly to excavacte and evicerate the Nigerian economy and people while enriching the countries they imported from while answering the name Local business mongul.

Where are the farmers who have been making billions from selling sugar from their plantation to dangote to make sugar for decades? where are the salt billionaires he made who ahve been selling salt raws to him to refine into trable salt for decades?

While i am angry with Tinubu, if only you know what the fulani cabal used dangote to do to the Nigerian economy for decades you will know why the conomy is this terrible, Look no further than the Fulani cabal, unfortunately Tinubu realized this too late. He taught the fulani were his friends, remember the fulani and yoruba are one mantra? Tinubu came to power using the igbo hate as his moto now it's all back fired

He is spot on. US increase interest rate from 2% to almost 6% and millions of jobs was lost. When interest was in 2's, I had to give away jobs cos I can handle it all. When interest rate jump to 5's, jobs trickle and tech industry was the first to cave. Between Facebook, Google , Twitter and Microsoft, over 500k people was let go.
Interest should be up incremental and not just a sudden jump. In a year time, most manufacturers will have to close shop for real.

WhiteWood:
Lol, Obi will always be a boy but I think he's right about this, because increasing the monetary policy rate and cash reserve ratio can cause job losses in sectors that depend on bank loans and credit. Just sticking to traditional economic theories will not be enough to handle Nigeria's current complicated economic problems. All I want is progress for Nigeria --Kudos Obi

While you have some valid points, some jobs are more demanding than others and not everyone will work inside A/C or from home. The government can only enforce minimum wage and work environment safety and leave the employment bargains for employer and employees. US has one of the most enforced labor laws in the one but some jobs na die here too and you wish you never do it but bills still need to be paid.
I had worked in tire shop that pays $12hr in Virginia almost ten years ago. I had to use pain killer every night I get home. I did not quit. I persevere cos I have bills to pay and continue to look for something better. Fast forward to present, I own my business and I charge $100hr to work on a truck with minimum of 2 hours.
Quiting a job cos it's hard without alternative is like letting go of a small bird in hand hoping to catch a big one inside the forest. What if you don't get a big one soon? The OP should continue to hang on to it while looking for something better.

Omanambala:

You are both ignorant and insensitive to the young man's plight. You want him to give up his life because your government who was supposed to provide him with decent employment failed him and now these wicked Chinese people are exploiting our African brothers. You need to see how stressful this jobs are. These Chinese employers work our people to death!

I had a close relative who was doing the same job some years back and they were paying him 8000 naira monthly for a 12 hours shift of which they are required to work 6 days a week. When he told me this I was so angry I wanted to send street boys to that factory and burn it down. To make matters worse, they added Sundays to their working days with same pay. I made him quit the job and started taking care of his financial needs.

The conditions these Chinese people employ our people to work in is nothing less than slavery. If I was a governor I will enact a law to protect my citizens health, pay rate. If my people had to work such inhuman hours then must pay them nothing less that 300,000 monthly or I close that slave camp. Our leaders are simply wicked
Politics / Re: Security Arrests Over 100 BDC Operators In Abuja As Naira Slumps To N1980 Per $1 by xandy84: 1:07am On Feb 22
BDC are only responding to market demand. Average Nigerians has lost confident in Naira and to save their investment, they quickly convert their money to $$.
The sudden fall of Naira had nothing to do with speculation and all to do with government policies. The government remove subsidy without putting in place mechanism to cushion the effect on such removal. Subsidy anchor our everyday life from transportation, food etc subsidy removal brings about increase in prices of everything and before the economy can adjust and absorb the shock of subsidy removal, the government went to float naira.
Demand will always create supply and when demand is more than supply, the price will definitely rise. Basic economics. Arresting all BDC operators will only make it worse cos it will create artificial scarcity with more increase in prices.

High school economics will tell you banning a product when the demand is high will result.in higher prices because demand will always create supply. Countries like Zimbabwe, Venezuela had tried to bad foreign currencies and failed woefully.
Nigeria and our people must accept the reality and the true value of our currency. The idea of having a strong when we produce nothing is the beginning of hyperinflation. A weaker local currency while we produce lots of good is an highway to development. China is a perfect example

What do you mean by modern cars? Why do people still die in car accidents if modern cars are so safe? While lastest cars has numerous airbags that protect occupants in event of accident, damage on that SUV is so significant that it can only happen on highway speed and likely above 60 mph. I have had 2 total loss vehicle since I have been driving and none has such heavy damage to my vehicle and I was driving close to 60 mph. That truck accident happen on high speed and whatever the mechanic hit must sustain heavy inpact even is a jersey wall.
The story is does not add up. Someone is not telling the whole truth.

You're completely wrong here. The buyer and seller aggreed to do business and the buyer fulfill his part of the deal which makes him the owner of the car. The seller CANNOT unilaterally change the term of agreement without the consent of the buyer and if the buyer disagree, nothing can be change.
Will the OP change his mind if he has sells the car to call dealership who already paid him and take possession of the car and documents? Nope and same treatment should be applied to the neighbor.

The government stop subsidy, float Naira at the same time and the result is nothing but catastrophic to every day people. The government is yet to increase minimum wage and they beg the question how do they want people to make it to work?. Too much of good medicine becomes poison.

Even Nigerians abroad would not even think of investing back home. I finished my housing project at the cost of $95k and a year later, it's a very bad investment cos as $$ appreciate against naira, the project is beginning to look like white elephant project but the saving grace is I did not borrow to finance it and I never intend to recoup my investment thru rental.
Consistent depreciation of naira is turn off for investors and it wil worsen our unemployment issue for real.

Who exactly is benefiting from an ever falling Naira? What kind of cruelty is this? In 2019, a friend of mine based in the US invested $200,000(N72,000,000 at that time) into Nigerian real estate. Now his investment is valued at about N200,000,000($135,000). Despite the fact that his naira investment tripled in value, it was still not worth it from a dollar perspective. He is now regretting his decision because he would have been better off just leaving his $200k in the bank when you consider it is now worth 32 percent less. This is an example of foreign investor they claim to be courting.

You can't legislate a country to prosperity. If such is possible, there will be no need to study economics in university and country who tried such found out the hard way. Zimbabwe tried what you stated here but it only made it worse. The moment the government begins to strong arm free market, investors will lose confident in local currency and inflation will skyrocket.
Another country that tried the approach you state was Venezuela. The president implemented various draconian laws just to shore up local currency and the effect makes local currency worthless than the paper it was printed on. In the height of inflation in Venezuela, you need a wheelbarrow full of cash to buy bread.

Solution is,1. Arrest all the black market BDC and charge them to court for economic sabotage.

3.Nigeria should stop importing fuel especially now Dangote has started production.
4. Nnpc should be disbanded and all the various chairmen be arrested for failure to remit into the federation Account for almost 3years.
5.The NPF should be empowered to arrest any individual spending dollar or holding dollars inside the country.
6. All transactions of international trade should be done by the banks whereby money will be transferred from Nigeria banks to any

Your analysis of 200k is $200 does not work that way. I have lived in US for 10 years uninterrupted and I had work my way from $10hr to present $100hr and I can tell you someone who earn $2k net in US is not better than someone who earn 200k monthly in Nigeria when you factor bills. Average American that goes home with $2k net monthly is broke and one illness from bankruptcy.
Abroad ain't for everybody and if we go by exchange rate, lots of people had left a career back home and end up in worse situation cos all they see is $$ sign. The first ruse of japa is converting your naira to $$ thinking you're underpaid. It does not work that way.

donmaxman:
My advice to you is to japa to Canada if possible. Several years ago in Nigeria precisely 2015, I was earning about 750k per month and I still left. People told me it was a bad decision then but now I thank God I made the decision as most friends that criticized me then have come to their senses and are surprised I had the foresight then. The exchange rate then, was I CAD to 150 ngn. Today it is 1 CAD to 920 NGN. First, building you assets in Naira is risky as one insane CBN governor can easily print so much local currency and devalue the currency making your hard working years and saving completely worthless. I invested heavily in Nigerian stocks, houses, bonds and they are worthless today if I convert it. My house in Nigeria can barely fetch me 15000 dollars if I put it up for sale. If I had taken the same action in a proper working economy I would have become a millionaire in dollars. People ruined Nigerian banks and mismanaged shareholders fund and they are not in jail. People will eat your pension funds and nothing will.happen. Nigeria is a no go for any smart young man with vision. I have a foreign passport, access to a world class healthcare. I know how much assets I have built abroad since I left Nigeria. I look at my years in Nigeria as the locust years of my life. There is no accountability in Nigeria. 200k is less than 200 dollars

Even the supper rich are not immune form the calamity of taking sides. Elon took a $44B to the edge of bankruptcy in less than a years by taking political side.

You nailed it. Jesus example is what pope is following. While I am not completely sold on trans issue, I don't judge and let that be between you and your God. It's Christ-like to treat all human with decency in respective of their gender, sexual orientation.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Ceasefire In Gaza Strip Will Last Maximum 10 Days – Reports by xandy84: 4:10pm On Nov 22, 2023
Hamas was hoping for regional war. Their calculations was Hezbollah and other Iran proxy fighters in the regoin will join the war but when US sent two war ships in matters of day to the region, everyone involve do their calculations and decides involvement might signal their end. Even Hamas now will be full of regret cos the destruction in Gaza will take decades to reconstruction and Isreal will hunt Hamas for years and that will reduce their ability to govern. Before October 7, Hamas freely govern Gaza but not anymore. They are hiding in their tunnel, scared of drone attack.

Politics / Re: Meet The Nigerian Fashion Moguls Championing ‘Made In Africa’ Worldwide by xandy84: 2:42pm On Nov 21, 2023
Diminishing their achievements will be criminal but none of these designers are at "mogul" status at the moment. It takes years to achieve mogul status and while I believe they will achieve such status one day, they are not there yet and nothing wrong pointing the OP to his wrong choice of word.

The likes of Versace, Coco Chanel, YSL, Ralph Lauren, JPG etal are decades old and built formidable names and unassailable lead when fashion was still terribly white and had to be well-regarded/endorsed by France and Europe to be globally desirable and successful.

What these Africans are doing is commendable in it's own right, given the challenges, and not to be dismissed because they are not up there with Versace etal.
