Business / Re: Naira Redesign Won't Reduce Inflation Or Strengthen Naira by xandy84: 12:54pm On Nov 08, 2022
Theoretically, that is a good idea but we both know there are factors that makes it impossible like volatility of naira, lack of trust of average Nigerians towards the government. For example, will you keep 90 naira in saving or convert it to $$ and hold on to it? Be sincere please..
You possibly will change your cash to $$ and thereby increase the demand for $$ and weakens the naira more. Low value naira increase the price of goods and services, and average Nigerians becomes poorer cos their naira hold less value compare to few months ago. Zimbabwe, Venezuela had tried and failed woefully and I see the same for Nigeria cos our economic factors are almost same.

Peterobi90:

Yes i read it, the Govt is trying to create an artifical demand for the naira, when there is an artificial demand with controlled physical disbursement, the dollar would be sold in blackmarkets(BDC) to purchase the naira because the new design would be in huge demand to re-oil the country alongside campaigns..

Did you read the report by Bloomberg that Naira is the worst performing currency globally as at yesterday? Production of goods and services strengthen value of a currency and not changing the design or color of it. $$ is the most hoarded currency in the world cos every corner of the planet has it stockpile and the it's still increasing in value.

Peterobi90:
It actually would reduce inflation and strengthen the naira..

If you have over N2tr unaccounted for in the economy, redesign would force that out either into the commerce/economy or making the banks liquid..

The scramble for the new designed naira for restock both for ongoing campaigns and re-oiling the nation would see a less demand for dollar which reduces the rates.. so in essence, there is likely to be an imminent crash on the greenback sometimes between December and January..

It was a good move...

I own my business and sales plummet drastically. In the average, $2500 weekly and most times, more but last two weeks, you hardly find work cos demand slows down and trucking don't go out often and if they don't go out often, it will not breakdown and hence, no need for repair guys. Period like this is the reason to always have savings that you can fall back on.

Jack still has equity in Twitter just like the Saudis Royal family and CY support Musk to acquire Twitter. Elon do not singlehandedly own Twitter...

Zenzu01:
Elon Musk is a business man and it's obvious he's doing all these to protect his new business. Remember that Jack plans to open another social network which will want to complete with Twitter, so the best is not to allow Jack still have insiders that can still feed him with info about what's going on in Twitter. The problem is just that these people will become jobless and that's not cool.

PS: this is just my point of view oo, as I believe Elon Musk aims to make profit with Twitter.
Business / Re: 15-Year-Old ₦‎500 Note Currently In Circulation (Pictured) by xandy84: 6:25pm On Nov 01, 2022
Is there a law that prevent people from having a billion naira under their beds? Government can prevent hoarding by guaranteeing deposits to certain amount but people still decide what they want to do with their money either deposit it in a bank or put it under their beds. For example, there is a law in US that guarantee all deposits upto $250k in case anything happens to the banks. That law encourage people to deposit against keeping it at home.

Mercury12:

They are hoarding the naira notes. Unused naira should be in the banking system not stash in the house. That is the main point

Business / Re: 15-Year-Old ₦‎500 Note Currently In Circulation (Pictured) by xandy84: 4:21pm On Nov 01, 2022
You asked a valid question. Money does not expire, so what's wrong with money made in 2007? Nothing absolutely. I believe Nigerian government always love throwing controversial topics out there to the populace to distract from their poor performance. The year a currency was made has zero relevance but the purchasing power of the currency is what matters.

Buddha3:
Are you people ment?

I sold 50 dollar notes made in 2003 to Faruk in Wuse 2 about a week ago and he paid me good money for it.

What is wrong with a 2007 naira note being in circulation till date? You Nigerians just like to foolishly demean your country for the fun of it.

There are holes in the dude story. His father was 95 when he died which means he must have retired before he sent them to school and if he is retired, he should have lots of business and property when he died. People who paid 40 million for a child to school abroad has 500 millions in investment and property scatter everywhere for Naija though I might be wrong.

It's grace to be 70 years and when your sponsor is 95 years, common sense implies you prepare yourself cos he is not going to live till 195 years.

Blame game everywhere. Do America make Buhari president? America does not have the capacity to make anyone president of another country. The only people who can make Atiku, Tinubu or Obi president are Nigerians and they have choice to make and hope they make the right one cos suffer dey Naija.

The Americans and the Europeans should stop making thieves the presidents of African states! This culture of using their sophisticated military intelligence apparatus to foist drug barrons and ruthless thieves on African states as Heads of government and then sitting by the side to mock the same Africans as perennial underachievers should stop! It's the main reason Africa is a basket case today.

When you go out of your way to assassinate altruistic leaders like Thomas Sankara, Patrice Lumumba or Tom Mboya and replace them with the likes of Atiku Abubakar, Hushcobar Yekini Amoda Tinupoo, Emperor Bokassa or Paul Biya, you end up making idiots the leaders of men at the detriment of the real leaders. These fake leaders will then spend all their days in power looting and misruling the whole continent thereby destroying the destiny of generations.

Most politicians does not store their loot in Naira cos of it volatility. They store their loot in $$ and can't easily convert old naira to $$. CBN is the most confused entity in Nigeria... Buhari administration is the definition of insanity. Keep doing same thing over again hoping the result will be different this time...

Ventura1:
Politicians are confused now. CBN will not print much of the new currency, and won't replace returned currency with cash, they will mostly get e-naira.

Over 80% of currency in circulation is outside the banking system, and not in banks vault.

You're right but no president ever make real effort to restructure the country. Some part of the country are scared of restructuring but if a president shows them the benefits of restructuring, they will fall in line. It's hard for governors, legislative arm to go against widely held public opinion and all Nigeria need is a president that will sell the benefits of restructuring to every geopolitical zones

Let us use our brains. To restructure Nigeria you need the cooperation of the National Assembly and all the governors and even state assemblies. Labor Party doesn't have any of these. Is he going to command them to go along with him?

Foreign Affairs / Re: Photos Of Putin’s Newly Mobilized Army Of Aged And Unfit Men Being Sent To Fight by xandy84: 2:02pm On Sep 29, 2022
Ukraine never force their citizen to fight. You join the volunteer force to defend motherland and not conscripted by fire or force. There are Ukrainian-American to left Yankee to help out at home. Able-bodied Russians and running out of the country to avoid going to war front cos the war is needless and it's death sentence.
The war momentum is with Ukraine and sending poorly trained and equipped solders to the front will only make it worse off. Russian intelligence underestimate the resilience of Ukrainian and over-estimate there own capabilities. The longer Putin wait to call off the war, the likely this will be the repeat of the 90's when the defeat by Afghanistan accelerated the collapse of the Soviet union.

arzizhy:

Poor narrative. The Ukrainian army pushing back equally comprises of normal civilians who heeded the call of their president and stayed behind to defend their country.

But then the western media will want you to believe the latest draft in Russia comprises of old and haggard civilian and not point to the fact that most were ex military men.

Believe the media at your own risk and underate the Russians at your own perils.
