Your write-up was spot on. Elon talked too much. Leave politics to politicians and focus on your business. Twitter never make profit and you spend $44 billion on that piece of garbage... Seriously!!! He has to fire janitorial staffs that Twitter employees had to come to work with their own toilet paper.... Not good. While Tesla is the leading EV brand in the world but other car manufacturers are catching up. Ford lightning is an example of progress of other car manufacturers EV. Ford lightning powered a whole for 2 days in Buffalo storm.
Elon needs to go back to basic and leave politics for politicians or Tesla might end up been Carvana of car manufacturer.

CoronaVirusRelo:

I don’t believe Tesla shares were overpriced! I am a shareholder and I can recollect how people bought into Tesla. It was the future of EV. And with his brilliance, we were certain stocks was going to the moon because he was this a dude who had unpredictable innovations.

Dude ruined his career with ego and his mouth. Became a comedian and lost direction. Twitter acquisition was the biggest fvck up! That garbage was far overpriced and he bought into it! Leveraged with Tesla forgetting that shareholders confidence was at stake.

Added more enemies to his trade by venturing into partisan politics and we all can see how his brand is being ridiculed, which is political!

Elon needs to get back to the drawing board and return to previous course, if it’s not too late. The competition in EV has come of age and I doubt he can regain that lead he had before.

He talked too much!

Almost all stocks was overpriced. Carvana goes from one of the most performing stock to company facing bankruptcy. Elon Twitter debacle is also part of the problem of Tesla and most car manufacturers are into EV markets now and that is cutting deep into Tesla market. Elon needs to get it together hard time coming his way.

grandstar:
Tesla stocks were way over priced if you ask me
It was treated more like a tech stock and not like a car stock. Does future profits justify those share prices?

Also, the sky high stock prices early this year were unsustainable as governments all over the word started tightening the noose around their loose fiscal and monetary policies.

Thos is food for thought

You're 100% wrong. In a saner climate like you said, police chiefs do not resign cos of actions of trigger happy police man. Why should IG resign for someone else actions beyond his control? Saner climate ain't heaven. It's between hell and heaven like Nigeria. Police kill unharmed citizen in America too and even a lady was killed in her apartment in Texas by police. Ever heard about Angola before, that prison is worse than kirikiri...

I believe you're talking about SWE in US. Thanks for breaking it down but most of your analysis does not add up. A person work 3 full time jobs at the same time is likely not possible cos a job that pays you $150 yearly ain't not joke except such a person is a superman. Second, I have lived 10 years in US to know that American tax system discourage people who make good money from working multiple job cos the second jobs going to be like you're working for IRS cos the tax will almost finish your paycheck but I can be wrong though.

int0x80:
Ok, let me break it down for you. And FYI, this is what I know 100%, so I am not speculating anything here, just facts! On average, a SWE with 4-5 years experience makes at least $150k+ annually here. Now, multiple that by 3+ remote jobs and tell me what you get in a year. That's in upwards of $450k annually, which is more than $33k monthly.

Thanks for the enlightenment but no software engineer makes that kind of money in Yankee not to talk of Nigeria. $33k monthly is for major cooperation CEO and not just cloud engineer. $33k monthly put you in top 1% income earner in US and that will put you in 0.00001 income earner in Nigeria.

You're absolutely right. Informal tranfer account for over 60 % of Nigeria remittance. I have not used WU or MG over 5 years cos the huge difference in exchange rate. Why send money thru WU or MG when I can zelle someone and the Naira will drop in few minutes in Lagos. After India and possibly Pakistan, Nigeria should be third on the list.

.

Eniitankorede:

They actually do not consider informal channels which most Nigerians abroad use because of the higher exchange rate and lower commissions. If that’s considered we should be number 3 after India and Pakistan.

Lol.... Extortion is not punishable by life imprisonment. There are fake police, FBI agent wannabe in Yankee and it's not peculiar to Nigeria alone. 4 months for first time offender sounds reasonable. The purpose of jail is to deter other people from doing such crime and not to indefinitely punish the offender.

We (Nigerians) are our problem in this country, but we are so quick to blame the government. The impersonator was also extorting money from motorists particularly poor commercial bus drivers in Lagos.

I agreed with mostly of what you said with few disagreement. First, crime rate is higher in America than in Nigeria. Minus northern Nigeria, other region is relatively peaceful with pockets of violent. Used to live in Chicago and I now live in Virginia Beach. For a school to look nice does not mean you getting the best education for your kids. America is better than Nigeria but I am completely against people who quit careers or sell house to travel to US or UK only to start afresh. There are cab drivers in Chicago who were doctors in Nigeria. That does not add up to me but I believe people have different views and I might be wrong

Dijita:
I agreed with his analysis. Yes neither US nor Uk is a paradise. However, your statistics of murder per capital in US vs Nigeria is wrong. According to World bank(data.worldbank.org), there are 22 murders in Nigeria compare to 5 in US per 100,000 people in 2019. While I may agree with you that their is high level of car jacking in many US metros, this is a property crime and when all is consider they are more property crime in Nigeria than America. In US, most if of these crimes are reported, while in our few are reported in country.
I don't know where you live that the quality of public education sucks to the point that you send your children to private school. I spent more money on relative children in Nigeria than I spent on my children k-12 education in the US. One of them graduated high school as AP scholar start working as a software engineer immediately after high school. The other is doing two master degrees in one of the health sciences field finishing one this December and the second next year December. They both attended public school and community colleges.

I agree with his analysis mostly base on my experience. When I was in Lagos, I was earning good money and living comfortable life. However, when the opportunity came, I choose to japa because of my children's future. Some of the guys we worked together that thought it is foolishness to come abroad and be doing security job are now calling us for help. Some of them were forced into early retirement and those that are working the pay did not keep up with increase responsibilities. Some of them are now calling us for financial assistance. As I always told my children, it is better to be the one been called than to be the one calling.

If you japa with a purpose and plan your life, mostly study and do well in your education. Don't compete with people in Nigeria and don't look for shortcut. It is going to be very hard initially, but as time goes on you are going to do better than most of of your peers back home. There will be those who will be better but you will be happy of your decision.
Even at the early stage, doing security or CNA, your problem is not going to be catering for yourself, it is the support for people back home that will drain you. A security guard in US with a wife, 2 or 3 kids and the wife is working security or CNA don't need to work overtime to put food on the table and pay all their bills. It is our desire to build house and help our relative that force us to work overtime. America system is designed for you, your wife and children.
Off course it is not for everybody, if you have a clear vision for your future in Nigeria, No point for you to japa

40 millions for japa runs does not make economic sense. Almost $60k just to come America or UK while you end doing menial jobs here. It does not matter what you are or do in Naija, you have to start all over here and with that type of investment. Does not make a single sense...

sisisioge:

I just left naija not too long ago, was single, was in HR and earned close to that 700k as my net. Yet I left. I had friends who left earning close to twice that amount but still left. You are correct, comfort is relative, simply living in a comfy apartment, driving comfy car and being able to afford good food might be enough for some, while others need beyond that to feel comfortable. The salary scaled up significantly in naija since January 2022....the fresh from NYSC doctors in a hospital I worked with earned 300k while those with experience earned as much as 1.2m. Dont even think it....salaries had scaled way higher than you thought.

Let me add that those doing japa runs spending close to 40m aren't all borrowing fa....where do you think the savings came from?

After reading all your writeup, I concluded you're a Nigerian who think UK or US is paradise. Having lived in US for 10 years, I can tell you there ara higher rates of murder per capital in US than Nigeria. There is higher rate of getting carjack in DC than in Lagos.. don't argue but check the facts and figures and you will come to same conclusion. The quality of public schools sucks that I had to send my daughter to private school and that bill is leaving a hole in my wallets.
US/UK is little better than Nigeria but not as people think. Have it at the back of your mind no lizard will leave Naija and turn to crocodile in America.

QuinModah:
Anyone who will stay in Nigeria because of a higher salary is quite confused about the logic and purpose of their japa. This is basic maths, but nobody pays attention in maths class these days.

To be honest, alot of Nigerian's leaving the country is for a better life standard, and not necessarily money, people are seeking for safety, good health care system, quality education system etc. Trust me with your money in this country you can't afford those, you can't buy safety (ask some generals in the army why their kids are abroad & why they relocate after service and you get the answers you seek) , these are functions of government responsibilities, which they have failed without any form of remorse.

Nigerians are no longer safe in their country, you have a good job, you are prone to be kidnapped, you drive a good car, you can be robbed and killed, kids are spending close to a decade in public universities for a 5years program. The exodus campaign out of the country is based on having quality lifestyle, Nigerians are simply tired of not been safe in their country anymore. The good Job comes with its inherent risks of been killed, robbed, or kidnapped, so trust me is beyond the salary to stay back in a system designed to shorten your life span. fix the country and Nigerians will stay back.

it is not a salary issue. Are you aware there is no middle class in Nigeria again?, a good number of Nigerians are one chronic disease away from poverty. Have we not seen someone that returned back to Nigeria to work at the rate of same salary structure.

This case here depends on the person skill-set, and how important such person is to the firm.

Average entry level salary in UK is

$32,500 = ₦14,428,050.00 yearly.

Let's break it down.

$32500/12 = $2,708 making ₦1,202,189.52 monthly. (Subjected to all statutory deductions)

In short there are many companies that can afford this in Nigeria depending on how skilled you are.

Note: it's not bad to japa and it's not bad to stay back, but it's depends on your purpose.

Let me stop here.

Science/Technology / Re: Massive Crocodile Ripped Off A Boy’s Head & Swallowed Him In Costa Rica by xandy84: 12:41pm On Nov 30, 2022
Animal right group/activist be does not value life of Animal more than humans but for humans to respect the boundaries and habitat of animals. For example, if someone swim in a crocodile infested water and get killed, it is not the fault of those crocodile cos they are in their natural habitat and you're the one who went to there natural habitat and live with the consequences of your actions.
There are exceptions to the natural habitat though. Dogs who bite humans need to be put down before it has taste for humans blood. Deer that attack humans need not to shot right away even if it's not deer hunting season and you will not get a fine for killing it

doggedfighter:
“[The hardest thing for my wife was seeing the crocodile float away with my son’s body.”

No parents deserve to see the boldedcry

This is one of the reasons even though I don't agree with the way we kill everything and eat here.

I sometimes do not agree with animal rights either.

The other day dogs killed a young child in South Africa.

Now a crocodile killed this handsome young boy.

And Costa Rica values crocodiles more than human life.

Same with other countries.

On front page the other day, we read how a python bit and dragged a child into the river in Australia.

But what a did they do ?

They petted the python and let it go.

I don't believe either Russia or Ukraine will win the war. I believe this is the repeat of Soviet/Afghanistan war. Neither parties has the means to land a heavy blow to knock out the opponent but the cost of war and unpopular how the events is turning will make one country agree to a truce. Russia is ready for dialogue but want it on there terms while Ukraine believe they can continue to push Russian out of their country with the help of NATO. Let's see who end up with an edge during the winter months ahead.

I expected you to say that Ukrainians will win the war before winter is over grin grin grin
Foreign Affairs / Re: Russian Soldiers Are Freezing To Death In Eastern Ukraine by xandy84: 4:11pm On Nov 28, 2022
Where you from play very little significant inbrutal cold situation. What actually save anyone from cold is dress warm and possibly stay indoors be and stay warm. Russian soldiers will be mostly affected cos the whole operation has logistical problem from the beginning and it's about to get worse with winter ahead. Russian tanks runs out to fuel and soldiers had to abandon it, now imagine how do you supply winter gears and possibly equipment to keep soldiers warm when you can't even provide fuel for your tanks? Ukraine has the advantage because ordinary Ukrainian will provide support for their soldiers while Russians solders will be left to freeze to death.
I believe before winter is over, Russia will have to do another force mobilization cos they will suffer heavy losses.

olugabbie:

May be this is not entirely false. Soldiers will definitely freeze to death on both sides. This is a war. Troops will be stranded or Trapped. The cold will kill soldiers, but not significantly.

The Russians and the Ukrainians are not from the middle east where the temperature is high. Some Russian troops are from the artic (Siberia). The current temperature in Ukraine is child's play compare to the temperature in some part of Russia.

The idea that Russia send thousands of troops to Ukraine to freeze and die is false. In fact if as little as 5% of the Russian troops freeze to death in Ukraine. There will be consequences for the leadership in Russia.

It's annoying to be sincere. Now I know the reason Nigerian politicians only enter UK. 6 hours to UK and you're back home living large. US and Canada is individualist countries. Even with wife and kids, you're still bored. An ideal situation is to make money here, start something sustainable for Naija and leave like late 40's, early 50's. Yankee does not know old people. 40 per cent of Americans can't retire, they will work till death. It's common to see 70 years old still working at Walmart...

People keep saying benefit as if it's free. I pay for everything and nothing is for free. I can't wait for my investment to grow and I cash out. Yankee boring like hell. I pray never to be 45 years old here. Naija sweet when you have money but Yankee boring with or without money. I have money in my account and still hungry. Tired of eating junks and you be like F this place. Average Americans grow up to be independent and stay to themselves while average Nigerians grow up with people around. For example, I have Hulu live TV and I don't even enjoying watching premiership by myself while viewing centers for Bariga is an event to look forward to when home.... I tell a friend, by the time we 50 and we still here, we will be closer to suicide cos the older you get, the likely the loneliness get to you.

MufasaLion:
Yes, it might be lonely but however, you seem not to know what you want.

If you're in Nigeria, there are only few businesses you can do that will generate steady and good revenue for you but what about the quality of life and other basic things?

And as you're in Canada, there are things you definitely will benefit that those living in Banana Island can never benefit with their billions.

Everything in life has sacrifice and focus. Know what you want! This loneliness bla bla bla is stale. It's no more news. Stop the comparison and focus on positive things.

You're very wrong on your assumptions. skills sell everywhere except Nigeria. I am a mechanic ans made over $100k yearly. I have a master's degree and don't even care to use it cos average secondary teacher in America make less than $50k yearly. I even quit my job as a college professor to go into truck repair fully. The reality is Nigeria should encourage people with skills to travel out of the country and not people with paper certificates that has little or no values. A mechanic in Nigeria will relocate to US and make $30hr while a master's degree will end up in group home whipping people's behind with $15hr wages.
