Gods Power Over Man On Sunday, I was sitting in the church, and it was time for offering so the offering basket was passed around. Despite d Pastor's charge for gud offering, I still hurriedly and secretly pulled out N50 from my pocket and dropped it. Just then, the person behind me tapped me on the shoulder and handed me a N1,000 note. I smiled, then put d N1,000 majestically in the basket and passed it on, then I turned and thanked d man seriously for being so generous. He replied "don't mention,b careful next time, it fell frm ur pocket" Whaaaat!!!!!.......usher please wait wrong transaction. If it was u, what will u do? |
Dr. Ope Banwo watches the infamous AIT- aired documentary The Real Buhari and points out to a number of facts that the 55-minute- long feature may have gotten wrong in depicting the former military ruler of Nigeria who is today contesting for a presidential seat. Much like the highlypublicized scandal regarding Buhari’s school certificates , the aforementioned broadcast has become a subject of scrutiny and harsh criticism for portraying Gen. Buhari (rtd.) in a mostly negative light. Dr. Ope Banwo is a Nigerian attorney and a PhD holder in Law, a pastor, author of several books, and a business consultant. In his opinion article, entitled The BIG FAT LIES Of AIT In “The Real Buhari” Documentary EXPOSED! and published on the hardtalknaija.com website, Dr. Banwo admits that AIT is a privately-owned TV station and is, therefore, entitled “to advertise or air anything it wants”. However, he is quick to point out that “it should be a criminal act for a nationally-licensed TV station” to broadcast “falsehood against a contestant in the Nigerian elections” and “pull the wool over the eyes of unsuspecting Nigerians who trust his station to report the news to them daily.” Dr. Banwo decided to watch the 55-minute documentary himself to do his own fact- checking. Below is the list of nine points that AIT got wrong on Muhammadu Buhari, as stated by Dr. Banwo. The documentary claimed the Maitatsine riots started during Buhari regime: A simple online fact-check will reveal that the Maitatsine riots started in 1980, and the riots in which over 3,000 people died actually occurred from 1975 -1982, many years before Buhari came to power. In fact, Maitatsine was killed in one of the riots in 1980, though some of his adherents continued to inflict damage up to 1984. Truth be told, unlike the lackluster campaign we have witnessed under Jonathan against the Boko Haram sect, the Maitatsine sect was actually crushed during the Buhari regime, and its leaders scattered to Cameroon, when Buhari sent an overwhelming military force to confront them in 1984. Again, this happened in my school activism days so I know what I am talking about. Also, the objective history books and websites still online support this history. Yet, AIT shamelessly tried to claim that religious riots started under Buhari. The documentary claimed Buhari expelled Ghanians from Nigeria: Simply Google or ask any Ghanaian who was old enough at the time. It was President Shehu Shagari of NPN who first expelled over 1,000,000 Ghanaians in 1983 in the infamous ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ inicdent, as some sort of retaliation for what the Ghanaians did to Nigeria in 1969. This was before Buhari came to power. You can check the facts yourself from this 1983 story by New York Times. The documentary claimed Gloria Okoh, the drug carrier, disappeared from justice under Buhari: We all know the Gloria Okon fake “death” and disappearance saga happened under Ibrahim Babanginda after he overthrew Buhari. In fact, the late Dele Giwa was rumored to have been bombed to eternity after Buhari had been overthrown, for being too nosy about what really happened. I remember very well how Gani Fawehinmi fought a gallant battle to bring the perpetrators to justice. Again, the person most people accused at the time was Ibrahim Babangida, who overthrew Buhari, and not Buhari himself. The documentary claimed Fela identified Buhari in the $2.8billion oil money scandal in his song: Fela’s song about the missing money is still available everywhere. I have a copy of it and have listened to it again just in case I didn’t listen well before. Truth is, Fela never mentioned Buhari’s name. He only mentioned OBJ and Abola. Of course, the AIT people disingenuously edited that part of the tape out when they played Fela’s music in their documentary. This is definite proof they deliberately lied, otherwise why not let the song play to the point where names were mentioned? The documentary claimed that Buhari had a nabd in the death of Fela’s mother, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti: Again, a simple fact check by my 6-year-old daughter would reveal that Fela’s mother died after Olusegun Obasanjo invaded the Kalakuta Republic of Fela in 1978. It was OBJ that ordered the house of his former Abeokuta Grammar schoolmate to be burnt down over his criticism of OBJ government. I remember that one very well because our house was a walking distance from Fela’s shrine then and we all rushed to witness the “unknown soldier” saga play out in living colors ,and I saw Fela’s mother actually being thrown out of the window from upstairs by soldiers loyal to OBJ. Fela even released a song about it well before Buhari even came power more than 6 years later in 1984. The documentary claimed Buhari imprisoned innocent politicians: History shows that all politicians sentenced to prison by the 1984 Military Tribunal were found to either having enriched themselves with public funds, or diverted public funds. None of them were convicted. Even President Jonathan whom they were trying to help did not really say the politicians were innocent. He only said there should have been a difference between stealing and fraud! He said, someone someday stole “only N5m” and was given 15 years jail, or someone stole money that was not enough to buy a Volkswagen and was sentenced to life. A government thief is a thief, whether N1 or N100M. They were all tried, not by Buhari but by a properly constituted tribunal. In any case, how any sane person who was an adult in 1983, could argue that people like Umaru Dikko, Akinloye, Ambrose Alli and even Ekwueme were innocent is beyond me. The documentary claimed that Buhari has been losing since 1999: Buhari’s first shot was in 2003. In 1999, it was Chief Olu Falae of ANPP/AD that contested against Obj. In any case, why does it matter if he contested so many times and lost? Many great leaders have lost countless elections before finally getting a chance. Even the Great Obafemi Awolowo and the Great Nnamdi Azikiwe also contested many times, too, without winning, but I don’t see AIT criticizing that! The documentary criticized Buhari for his stewardship of PTF: Yet, the truth remains that he was vigorously investigated by the vengeful OBJ and nothing was found on him. Even OBJ recently confessed that the Fraud Investigation report did not find anything against Buhari. Still, that did not stop the lying journalists at AIT from claiming he was corrupt as the PTF leader though they could not show any proof. The documentary claimed that Buhari owned and benefited from Afri-Projects Consortium scandals: While I definitely agree that the Afri- Project Consortium did a poor job with the enormous responsibilities it was given as consultants by the PTF, there is no shred of evidence to suggest that Buhari is one of its owners or that he personally benefited from their operations. It is a testament to the deception behind this hogwash documentary that the narrator kept saying “APC” in its presentation of Afri-Projects Consortium to somehow connect the company with APC on a mental level. What a shame. The truth behind this big fat lie is that Afri- Projects Consortium Ltd is a registered company in Nigeria, and the AIT should have published their Form CO2 and CO7 to show us the real owners. Buhari has constantly challenged everyone to show proof of any ill- gotten wealth in his hands and nobody, including the AIT crew, has been able to do that. The man still lives in a modest house and remains the only former head of state without mansions in Abuja or elsewhere, and yet these idiots would want us to believe he stole billions of dollars. “The fact that President Jonathan and his paid supporters are desperate to win at all costs is all too obvious, even to the blind,” Dr. Banwo writes. “It is really annoying that every time you ask Jonathan’s supporters to give you a lucid reason why Jonathan should be returned for another 4 years, all they keep saying is ‘ Buhari was a dictator and an Islamist’ . Essentially, their strategy remains, ‘ Vote for Jonathan because Buhari is bad’ . What an embarrassment!” Dr. Banwo dares “the whole AIT crew, lawyers and owners,” to call him out or sue him for libel if they manage to refute his observations. Source: www.naij.com |

The right question is: How much did Jonathan pay WAEC to cook up that scandal? |

dami24:Prior to the development of election postponement, it never matter what the US think about Nigeria. But now, looking over Nigeria from another perspective you see a country so corrupt that the image of the country in the eyes of other nations is being obliterated because of personal gains of some corrupt politicians. |
The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) announcement of Nigeria’s elections postponement was not warmly welcomed by the US officials. Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry, expressed disappointment over the dates shift saying: “The United States is deeply disappointed by the decision to postpone Nigeria’s presidential election, which had been scheduled for February 14. “Political interference with the Independent National Electoral Commission is unacceptable, and it is critical that the government not use security concerns as a pretext for impeding the democratic process.” Source: Www.naij.com/381031-united-states-not-happy-with-elections-postponement.html |

barcanista:It is obvious that it is not Jega's fault, rather some corrupt individual in the military who are so corrupt that the interest of Nigerians is not on their mind. Their sole interest is for their reward as promised by the President and his cohorts in the PDP so as to give him more time to decide on the apt strategy to rig this election. This is evident in the viral Ekiti State election saga. It is therefore overly obvious that Jega doesn't have a hand in this because he is always interested in the wellbeing of its staff, which the military claim that can't guarantee. This makes one to wonder whether a war that has been on for over five years without any tangible success could be resolved in Six weeks (Is it magic?). I am really disappointed in this county. However, we are hanging on to hope. Good bless Nigeria? He has already did with all this natural resources and all, therefore, it should be: God save Nigeria! May he save Nigeria from all those oppressors who want to turn their executive position to their family seat. |

Major-General Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to face incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in Nigeria’s presidential elections on February 14, 2015. Buhari is the candidate for the new All Progressives Congress (APC) party, formed last year as the result of a merger between four opposition parties. 1. Buhari undertook military training in three countries Having received the bulk of his education in Katsina, a town in northern Nigeria near the Niger border, before beginning military training. In addition to attending the military training school and military college in Kaduna in northwestern Nigeria, he also received training in Great Britain (Officer’s Cadet School, Army Mechanical Transport School), India (Defence Services’ Staff College), and the United States (United States Army War College). 2. He continues to defend his military coup In October 2005, he defended the military coup he led in on December 31, 1983, when he deposed the elected civilian government of Alhaji Shehu Shagari, “The military came in when it was absolutely necessary and the elected people had failed the country.” He further said, “It is up to the people. If you choose correct leadership, there won’t be any need for the military regime.” 3. Over 500 officials were jailed during Buhari’s 20-month stint as leader As a part of his campaign against waste and corruption, Buhari sent 500 politicians, officials, and businessmen to prison. While some praised his attempts to make Nigeria’s government more accountable, others saw it as the tactics of a repressive military ruler. 4. Buhari’s “War Against Indiscipline” (WAI) stretched beyond anti-corruption measures The campaign that became the cornerstone of Buhari’s tenure as leader in the 1980s, Nigerians were forced to form orderly queues at bus stops (under the watchful eyes of soldiers wielding whips, with orders to use them on anybody who became unruly. Civil servants who were late for work were forced to perform frog jumps as a form of humiliation, and journalists were jailed under restrictive decrees on press freedom. 5. He was imprisoned for 40 months following his leadership Buhari was deposed in a palace coup led by General Ibrahim Babangida on August 27, 1985. He was imprisoned for 40 months following the coup, as the new leaders felt he had not made the restoration of civilian rule a priority. He had also lost much popular support, as people protested the austerity measures, declining health care services, and worsening economic conditions. 6. Buhari’s economic principles and political ideology continue to be referred to as Buharism In his efforts to get Nigeria’s public finances back in line, Buhari’s government curbed imports into the country, refused to devalue the Naira, curtailed oil theft, bartered illegally bunkered crude oil for needful goods, and more. While many praised the government’s successfulness in reducing inflation, many of the changes also resulted in widespread job losses and business closures, lowering living standards for many. 7. He has run unsuccessfully for President of Nigeria on three occasions Buhari ran in the 2003, 2007, and 2011 presidential elections in Nigeria, but was unsuccessful in his campaign on each count. In 2003, he lost to the People’s Democratic Party nominee, President Olusegun Obasanjo, by a margin of over 11 million votes – while there were some allegations of fraud, courts found that the level of proven electoral fraud was not sufficient to have affected the outcome of the election. He lost to Umaru Yar’Adua in 2007, winning only 18% of the vote, and again in 2011 to current President Goodluck Jonathan, earning just over 12 million votes, to Jonathan’s nearly 22.5 million. 8. He has been accused of having a hand in post-election violence in 2011 The Nigerian human rights group, the Northern Coalition for Democracy and Justice (NCDJ), have asked the International Criminal Court (ICC) to bring charges against Buhari for his alleged role in the violence that followed the 2011 presidential election. 800 people were killed, and churches and schools destroyed, during the course of the three days of riots following President Jonathan’s victory. The NCDJ has accused Buhari’s party of systematically targeting non-Buhari supporters in instances of murder, torture, and rape, though the All Progressives Congress party has denied all claims. 9. Buhari is running on an anti-corruption platform Continuing his commitment to stamping out corruption, Buhari has focused his 2014 campaign on corruption measures, also pledging to tackle growing insecurity in northern Nigeria with the Islamic insurgency. But while many agree with his position on corruption and see his military expertise as the answer to ongoing violence by the Boko Haram, many question his ability to direct policy and the day-to-day of political life. 10. A loss by Buhari would most likely lead to much anger in the north Due to Nigeria’s vastly diverse ethnic groups, an unwritten agreement has ensured that power rotates between the Muslim-majority north and Christian south every two terms – an agreement that was undercut with President Jonathan’s primary victory in December 2014, leading to dozens of ruling party legislators defecting and losing the People’s Democratic Party’s majority in the lower house of Parliament. Should Jonathan win again in February 2015, it will exacerbate the perception that power in the country has become concentrated in the oil-rich south. 11. Buhari has accused Jonathan of failing to contain the Islamic uprising that has killed thousands Buhari has accused Jonathan and his administration of incompetence, and of being too weak to control the Islamic uprising in northern Nigeria and the ongoing violence carried out by the Boko Haram. He has perpetuated his reputation as a disciplinarian and ruthless military leader that would be able to contain the Boko Haram’s activities. 12. He was one of two private African individuals to be invited to Barack Obama’s inauguration Demonstrating the respect that Buhari commands on the international level, he was one of two private individuals invited by the White House to Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremony. I am not saying he doesn't have his shortcoming, but he is the only option which every reasonable man in Nigeria should vote for cos he is the only way Nigeria can be corrupt free. He is not afraid to take the bull by the horn that is why every corrupt individual fear him. Buhari come 2015! God bless Nigeria!!! |

Indeed, the history of Nigeria can not be written without the mention of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd). Buhari has become somewhat a permanent feature in the political firmament of this nation. This is because of the various roles the Daura-born General has played in this nation. In December 1983, some middle and high- ranking military officers selected Buahri to lead the country after a successful military coup that toppled then president, Alhaji Shehu Shagari. At the time, Buhari was head of the Third Armored Division of Jos. Below is a transcript of his speech after the military coup obtained from Omojuwa.com: “In pursuance of the primary objective of saving our great nation from total collapse, I, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari of the Nigerian army have, after due consultation amongst the services of the armed forces, been formally invested with the authority of the Head of the Federal Military Government and the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is with humility and a deep sense of responsibility that I accept this challenge and call to national duty. As you must have heard in the previous announcement, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1979) has been suspended, except those sections of it which are exempted in the constitution. The change became necessary in order to put an end to the serious economic predicament and the crisis of confidence now afflicting our nation. Consequently, the Nigerian armed forces have constituted themselves into a Federal Military Government comprising of a Supreme Military Council, a National Council of States, a Federal Executive Council at the centre and State Executive Councils to be presided over by military governors in each of the states of the federation. Members of these councils will be announced soon. The last Federal Military Government drew up a programme with the aim of handing over political power to the civilians in 1979. This programme as you all know, was implemented to the letter. The 1979 constitution was promulgated. However, little did the military realise that the political leadership of the second republic will circumvent most of the checks and balances in the constitution and bring the present state of general insecurity. The premium on political power became so exceedingly high that political contestants regarded victory at elections as a matter of life and death struggle and were determined to capture or retain power by all means. It is true that there is a worldwide economic recession. However, in the case of Nigeria, its impact was aggravated by mismanagement. We believe the appropriate government agencies have good advice but the leadership disregarded their advice. The situation could have been avoided if the legislators were alive to their constitutional responsibilities; Instead, the legislators were preoccupied with determining their salary scales, fringe benefit and unnecessary foreign travels, et al, which took no account of the state of the economy and the welfare of the people they represented. As a result of our inability to cultivate financial discipline and prudent management of the economy, we have come to depend largely on internal and external borrowing to execute government projects with attendant domestic pressure and soaring external debts, thus aggravating the propensity of the outgoing civilian administration to mismanaged our financial resources. Nigeria was already condemned perpetually with the twin problem of heavy budget deficits and weak balance of payments position, with the prospect of building a virile and viable economy. The last general election was anything but free and fair. The only political parties that could complain of election rigging are those parties that lacked the resources to rig. There is ample evidence that rigging and thuggery were relative to the resources available to the parties. This conclusively proved to us that the parties have not developed confidence in the presidential system of government on which the nation invested so much material and human resources. While corruption and indiscipline have been associated with our state of under-development, these two evils in our body politics have attained unprecedented height in the past few years. The corrupt, inept and insensitive leadership in the last four years has been the source of immorality and impropriety in our society. Since what happens in any society is largely a reflection of the leadership of that society, we deplore corruption in all its facets. This government will not tolerate kick-backs, inflation of contracts and over-invoicing of imports etc. Nor will it condone forgery, fraud, embezzlement, misuse and abuse of office and illegal dealings in foreign exchange and smuggling. Arson has been used to cover up fraudulent acts in public institutions. I am referring to the fire incidents that gutted the P&T buildings in Lagos, the Anambra State Broadcasting Corporation, the Republic Building at Marina, the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Capital Development Authority Accounts at Abuja and the NET Building. Most of these fire incidents occurred at a time when Nigerians were being apprehensive of the frequency of fraud scandals and the government incapacity to deal with them. Corruption has become so pervasive and intractable that a whole ministry has been created to stem it. Fellow Nigerians, this indeed is the moment of truth. My colleagues and I – the Supreme Military Council, must be frank enough to acknowledge the fact that at the moment, an accurate picture of the financial position is yet to be determined. We have no doubt that the situation is bad enough. In spite of all this, every effort will be made to ensure that the difficult and degrading conditions under which we are living are eliminated. Let no one however be deceived that workers who have not received their salaries in the past eight or so months will receive such salaries within today or tomorrow or that hospitals which have been without drugs for months will be provided with enough immediately. We are determined that with the help of God we shall do our best to settle genuine payments to which government is committed, including backlog of workers’ salaries after scrutiny. We are confident and we assure you that even in the face of the global recession, and the seemingly gloomy financial future, given prudent management of Nigeria’s existing financial resources and our determination to substantially reduce and eventually nail down rises in budgetary deficits and weak balance of payments position. The Federal Military Government will reappraise policies with a view to paying greater attention to the following areas: The economy will be given a new impetus and better sense of direction. Corrupt officials and their agents will be brought to book. In view of the drought that affected most parts of the country, the federal government will, with the available resources, import food stuffs to supplement the shortfalls suffered in the last harvest. Our foreign policy will both be dynamic and realistic. Africa will of course continue to be the centre piece of our foreign policy. The morale and combat readiness of the armed forces will be given high priority. Officers and men with high personal and professional integrity will have nothing to fear. The Chief Justice of Nigeria and all other holders of judiciary appointments within the federation can continue in their appointments and the judiciary shall continue to function under existing laws subject to such exceptions as may be decreed from time to time by the Federal Military Government. All holders of appointments in the civil service, the police and the National Security Organisation shall continue to exercise their functions in the normal way subject to changes that may be introduced by the Federal Military Government. All those chairmen and members of statutory corporations, parastatals and other executive departments are hereby relieved of their appointments with immediate effect. The Federal Military Government will maintain and strengthen existing diplomatic relations with other states and with international organisations and institutions such as the Organisation of African Unity, the United Nations and its organs, Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, ECOWAS and the Commonwealth etc. The Federal Military Government will honour and respect all treaties and obligations entered into by the previous government and we hope that such nations and bodies will reciprocate this gesture by respecting our country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Fellow Nigerians, finally, we have dutifully intervened to save this nation from imminent collapse. We therefore expect all Nigerians, including those who participated directly or indirectly in bringing the nation to this present predicament, to cooperate with us. This generation of Nigerians, and indeed future generations, have no country other than Nigeria. We shall remain here and salvage it together.May God bless us all”. In just two years, Buhari’s government was revered for its ability to keep the country afloat by making progress through sheer economic ingenuity even when it rejected the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan and refused to adopt IMF conditionalities to devalue the Naira. His government was praised for its gain in reducing inflation by refusing to devalue the nation’s currency, curbing imports of needless goods, curtailing oil theft and using counter trade policy to barter seized illegally bunkered crude oil for needful goods like machineries, enabling it to export above its OPEC quota. |
A print so uniquely made On the sand of time. Fascinating in an unusual manner On and on it goes Seemingly endless Following you everywhere you go Like a baby running after its mother. The print bears an identity Whether good or evil Too unique to be bad Which is yours? Shooting up arrows and sheltering Under the cover of darkness Light will definitely shine And the arrows will find you. Which is yours? Helping the impoverished Lifting the broken and crippled And teaching them how to walk You definitely are making a print In the sand of time For your generation yet unborn, Shall reap what you have sow Which print do you want to leave Long after you are gone What do you want to be remembered for When you reach the world beyond Wisely, make a choice Because you are leaving a print In the sand of time.
