Eliasog:U know what brought this question up? We were just having a lecture today when a lady ask the lecturer which was correct between the two forms of stating one's name. So the lecturer told her that both form are correct because English language is a living language and as such new form and expressions keep coming into it making it quiet difficult for one to stick to a particular opinion. He further explain that to avoid unnecessary misinterpretation in a formal setting we should simply use "I am..." which I think is really better. |
Guys, is it right for someone to say "my names are..." Or "my name is..."? Personally, I think using "my name is..." is quiet better Or simply saying "I am..." without causing commotion. Guys, share your opinion because this has been a bone of contention even up to the tertiary level. |
hotwax: Why is that Quran is about Jewish prophets?Don't you get it? The Qur'an never claim that Jesus is an Arabian. In fact it acknowledges the fact that Jesus was sent to the Israelites just the way Moses was sent to the Egyptian.. However, prophet Muhammed was sent to the world at large. |
Nice one Roy. Thumbs up. You are a great writer and I am your number one fan. I have been following your post "gently" since the very beginning. Keep it up and flowing... I love the way you use words to paint images; even a layman who has no knowledge about literature can picture this story in his "mind's eye". Keep the post coming.......... ![]() |

iconize: I speak 4 Nigerian languages fluently.Well, that is great. Do u know that some people can't even speak 1 out of over 400 diff languages we have in Nigeria? They claim to speak only English nd if u happen to listen to them speak that English they claim to speak they ar not so good in it. |
The fact is when I see someone speaking more than two Nigerian languages I feel elated. There was a guy I met while I was in 100level, this guy speaks Hausa, Idoma, Yoruba, and Igbira fluently. Actually the guy is from Benue state but has travelled wide and I guess he is pretty good at picking Language up. At times I wish I were like him because I have been in the North for almost a year now and I can't even brag with my hausa although people tell me to give it time that I will pick it up little by little. Right now I speak Yoruba, English and Hausa is still coming gradually. I wish I am posted to the Southern parts during my NYSC so as to pick Igbo too. The question is right now Nairalanders how many Nigerian Languages do you speak? |
There was this program on Aljazeera called Ajstream which usually take place at night. But this one I am going to talk about took place on 30-12-2013 when Femi Oke was having a conversation with some group of comedians. The funniest part was when it came to the turn of Adeola Fayehun, an indigene of Nigeria but a US base comedian, to talk, she said something about the issue of corruption in Nigeria and how deeply it has enthrenced itself to the bone marrow of Nigerians. This lady asked Femi Oke, an Aljazeera presenter who also happen to be an indigene of Nigeria but based in United State, whether she has a generator set in her apartment and she said "no". Adeola was surprised at the answer and told her that "you are a Nigerian and you don't have a generator set in your apartment? Even the Nigeria president has a generator in Aso Rock that drinks petrol like a camel does on beholding water, thereby needing billions of Naira for it yearly budget. As funny as this might sound it is the reality. You can watch the re-show today in the afternoon on Aljazeera. |
I am 100% certain that I wouldn't be buying any of those cars for any family member. May God punish these government official who would rather have us drive death traps instead of the luxury SUVs which they themselves enjoy. I can bet my last naira that no DG, Perm Sec, Minister, Rep, Senator, or Economic Adviser will buy such a car for official use. Nonsense.
Why can't u guys think positively for 1sec. |

Ishilove: Does it occur to you that his life doesn't revolve Nairaland? That he has real life reponsibilities that take the front burner? I'm sure he will gladly resign his day job if you will be ready to take up those responsibilities that he will have to forfeit in order to write for you 24/7. Stop being so selfish and inconsiderate.Well, u dont have to quarell over this. My advice for Royver is that he should just take his time and must try not rush this story cos if u try to it might have an effect on the whole story. Take your time and write it as it flows, relax yourself because those that are destined to read this story till the end will surely follow it no matter what. Good Luck Royver. God bless Nigeria, God bless us all!!!! |
Thumbs up Royver. You are a great writer and I really love your work. I wont say SECOND TO COMMENT cos am bigger than that. |
