Judge Anthony Pitts of the Southwark Crown Court, UK, yesterday, adjourned the confiscation hearing of Chief James Ibori, former Delta State Governor, till June 6 next year.
Judge Pitts granted the adjournment to allow him time attend to a case of attempt to pervert the course of justice brought against Ibori’s co-defendant, Mr. Bradresh Gohil.
Gohil’s counsel alleged in court, at the hearing yesterday, that a British Police Officer, Mcdonald, who is a lead investigating officer in the case involving Gohil and Ibori, had been involved in collecting money for information involving Gohil and Risk Management company.
While pressing home his demand, Gohil’s counsel said: “There are new evidence indicating that DC Macdonald exchanged 22 telephone calls, which have been traced with Risk Management at key stages of the investigation of Ibori.
“They coincided with unexplained payment into DC Macdonald’s account.”
Judge Pitts, while granting the request of Gohil’s counsel in the trial, said: “Justice must not only be done, but must be seen to have been done.”
This is a second abrupt ending in the Ibori confiscation case.
The first ended last year, after it abruptly ended James Ibori’s confiscation hearing late last year on the grounds that the judge lacked enough evidence to arrive at a decision in the confiscation hearing.
Asking that the case be adjourned again on two grounds, Mr. Gohil’s counsel, Kamlish, a Queen’s Counsel, said: “Your Honour, I seek to have this case adjourned on two grounds:
“Gohil is not being represented at the hearing as the former counsel and solicitor have withdrawn and the second ground being that it will be improper to have a confiscation hearing before Mr. Gohil’s trial.”
The judge, in accepting his request, adjourned Mr. Gohil’s trial till January 16, 2016.
This adjournment of Gohil’s trial affected Ibori’s confiscation hearing as the prosecution sought an application to join Ibori’s and Gohil’s cases together.
Ibori’s case should have lasted for just six weeks, but will now be linked to Gohil’s case, which will begin January next year.

THE leader of the five anti-Rotimi Amaechi lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Evans Bipi, has made a return to the House after his victory at the polls.

Also, the lawmakers that rose against some of the decisions of the state governor returned to the House as they won elections into their various constituencies.

Apart from Bipi, the other anti-Amaechi lawmakers are Michael Chinda, Kelechi Nwogu, Martins Amaewhule, Victor Ihunwo and Ikuinyi Owaji-Ibani.

Bipi of the Peoples Democratic Party, represents Ogu/Bolo Constituency. He won with 33, 118 votes to beat his candidates from the All Progressives Congress and the Labour Party who got 696 votes and 191 votes respectively.

Speaking with The PUNCH in a telephone interview, Bipi expressed gratitude to the people of his constituency for finding him worthy to return to the House.

Bipi explained that he had always been in touch with the people of his area and maintained that it would always be difficult for anybody to defeat him in Ogu/Bolo in a free and fair contest.

“I have been a grass-root politician for a long time and I am in touch with the people of my constituency. I was confident of my victory before the election and I am happy that people have continued to stand by me. I will not disappoint them,” Bipi added.

However, in the 22 results out of the 28 constituencies released so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday, the PDP won 21 seats while the Labour Party won one seat (Ikwerre).

No offence sir, but I hope you know the level of honour we place over lives differ from persons to persons, we all know the north about their poor value for lives, but you need to know also that it wasn't only the northernerns that got hit by that , I lost my elder bro (a COL in the army due for promotion by nov 2014, my boy friend. Yes sir you may be partly correct , I grew up between kano ,zaria , kaduna, jos , kogi , niger state all my life so I can be called a northern too. Our mr fisher man shot him self in the leg too , he could not deal with any corrupt case labeled against his ministers and cronies, most of the christians that voted him in up north where daily killed and he was so dumb about it, his body lanfuage didn't speak well of him, most christians where seriously dissapointed over his attitude but he remained the same,thus there was no way christians in the north could even support him again when their famillies were been killed daily, if they had voted him in on sat I hope u know the trouble we woould have been in,?you saw the level ofdestructions that welcomed their.
