Sergeant Mercy John, a female police officer, who disarmed two robbers who attempted to steal her belongings, has been rewarded by the Babatunde Fashola, the governor of Lagos state.
The reward is coming barely a month after Sergeant John had disarmed the two armed at Egbeda-Shasha by Tawakalitu Close, Orisunmibare Road in Lagos.

It would be recalled that the incident happened on 10 February, 2015, at about 6pm when the robbers who rode on a motorcycle, had accosted John, brought out guns and ordered her to lie down. Apparently unaware of the fact that she was a police officer, the robbers thought they would have a field day but she gave them such a surprise by boldly grabbing the neck of one of the robbers and hit it on a nearby wall. With his gun falling out of his hand, John then grabbed it and turned it on the hoodlums who, sensing danger, fled the scene.
According to Channels, the official ceremony was held on Thursday at the Lagos House, Ikeja, shortly before the state’s Security Council meeting. Governor Fashola congratulated Sergeant John and encouraged her not to relent in her efforts in the course of her duty.

“Let me say very clearly that I value the work that you do, people of Lagos valued what you do and where ever you come from, this is your home and I think it is right to say that it was because you take this as home, you did the right thing, you took two robbers out of commission so that the people of Lagos can sleep well,” the governor said.

Sergeant John is a native of Ikori Local Government Area of Cross River State. She was enlisted into the Police Force on 1 July, 2000 and had earlier served in MOPOL 20, Force Ikeja from 2004 to 2012. She is currently attached to the Provost’s Department, State Police Headquarters, Lagos state.

A self-acclaimed pastor, John Ojebe, 50, has been charged before an Oshodi Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N390,000 from one Hawo Umoru under the pretense of selling her Adonai oil to wash her private parts with.
Ojebe was also said to have conspired with two others, now at large, to commit felony, to wit obtaining money by false pretence and stealing N390,000 belonging to the victim.

The accused, whose address remains unknown, was said to have committed the offences at Sura Mogaji Street, off Coker Road, Ilupeju, Lagos State.
He was arraigned by the police on a three-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.

However, when the charge was read to the accused before Magistrate Akeem Fashola, he pleaded not guilty.

One of the charges read: “That you John Ojebe, with two others at large, on April 13, 2014, at about 11am along Sura Mogaji Street, off Coker Road, Ilupeju in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did obtain N390,000 from one Hawo Umoru under the pretence of selling to her one Adonai oil for washing of her private part.”

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Kehinde Olatunde, informed the court that the offence was punishable under Section 410 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

Following the application for the accused’s bail by his counsel, Mr. Michael Olisah, the magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one responsible sureties, who must have paid tax for three years and whose address should be verified.
The matter was adjourned till April 27 for further mention.

Only the National Assembly may alter any of the provisions of the Constitution after which the amendmends must be approved by resolution of the Houses of Assembly of not less than two-thirds of all the States.

The President has no authority to reject any doggone Amendment approved by NASS.

The four-fifth rule applies to State creation and Chapter 4 (Fundamental Rights). All other amendments to any provision only needs the said two-thirds majority approval.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Rivers State governorship election, Dakuku Peterside, has expressed confidence that the electoral fraud allegedly perpetrated by the Peoples Democratic Party during the elections will not stand.

Dakuku, who spoke in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, explained that it was too early for the PDP to celebrate because the era of people getting away with electoral fraud was over.

He also described claims by the PDP campaign that media organisations, civil society groups as well as foreign observers who issued reports based on their observation were induced.

Dakuku said, “Are they saying that the European Union, the Embassy of the United States in Nigeria and several well-meaning friends of Nigeria who witnessed the sham in Rivers were induced?

“You cannot cover the sun with one finger. Everybody who witnessed what happened in Rivers knew what happened. What about our party leaders and members that were murdered?

“The blood of these innocent Nigerians and the tears of their widows and orphans will surely speak. On our part, we are going to court to seek justice for the Rivers people.”

He spoke against the backdrop of a statement by his PDP rival, Chief Nyesom Wike, who was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Wike had in a statement issued by his media assistant, Simeon Nwakaudu, described statements issued by monitors condemning the polls in Rivers as sponsored.

Those Igbo leaders acted very smartly.
The only silly thing with them was going to visit akiolu for whatever reason just because they wanted to be relevant. I have many Igbo friends and have travelled with them to most part of their nation... They are the real paradigm of a republican nation. No singular individual can claim to represent or speak for the entire Ndigbo as a people unless He was appointed after thorough deliberations...ask them
