The World Bank has said it would take a lot of time to give a comprehensive response on how the late Sani Abacha’s loot was disbursed…

Following a request by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), the World Bank representative responded that the Bank requires additional time to provide comprehensive information on the spending of recovered funds looted by the late military ruler Sani Abacha during his reign in Nigeria.

“In response to your request we would like to inform you that we are still considering your request and need additional time to provide you with a more comprehensive response,” told Ann May of the World Bank’s Access to Information Team in the letter dated October 15..
She informed SERAP representatives that though in most cases it takes up to twenty working days to respond the request for information, under special circumstances it can take much more time. The special circumstances include the complex and voluminous requests that usually require consultation with the World Bank’s board of executive directors as well as the internal units and external parties.

“We regret any inconvenience that a delay may cause you and, if one does occur, will aim to minimize it as much as possible,” concluded Ann Mayin the letter, adding that the World Bank “will notify you promptly of any updates to the status of your request.”

The estimates of the funds stolen by the late military ruler Sani Abacha during the period of his reign from 1993 to 1998 vary. While it is estimated that the stolen funds make up at least $ 4.3 billion, some experts claim that the sum of the stolen assets is much higher and might be as huge as $ 7 billion. Thus, Abacha, who ruled Nigeria for five years after a 1993 coup, is believed to to be among the ranks of Congo’s Mobutu Sese Seko as one of Africa’s most avaricious looters in power.

Adetokunbo Mumuni, the SERAP’s executive director, speaking on the delays with the initiative to recover Abacha’s loot, told: “we welcome the Bank’s decision to thoroughly consider the request. This thorough process shows the seriousness the Bank attaches to the request, and will hopefully contribute to a positive outcome that will serve the interest of justice and millions of Nigerians who want to know about disbursement of Abacha loot.”
SERAP sent its request to Jim Yong Kim, the World Banlk’s president, on 21 September, 2015, asking him to release documents relating to disbursement of recovered funds stolen by late General Abacha.

The SERAP’s request stated: “The World Bank has been involved in overseeing the transfer, disbursement, spending of recovered funds from General Abacha, and other similar initiatives to repatriate stolen funds to Nigeria. As such, the World Bank is not a neutral party in this matter.”

Popular actress, Ronke Oshodi-Oke, has had her fair share of controversies in the Nigerian movie industry. Among the many stories that have been peddled about her is the issue of her marriage because the fair skinned actress does not live with her husband.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, the actress said that her marriage is intact. She gave reasons why she does not live with her husband.
“Personally, I don’t like places that are noisy. If you live in certain places in Lagos,
everybody would know your movement. I don’t like such places. I try to keep my life private. I don’t want people to know where my children school or any other private information about me. But my husband works in Surulere and he loves the area a lot. I don’t like the area. We have a family house there, so he stays there on weekdays and during the weekend, he comes home to meet me at Abule-Egba. I have been in that area for a very long time and it is very quiet. That is why we live separately.
“Whatever people say, I really don’t care because I believe in pleasing myself. The same people that would advise you are the same people that would criticise you when things go wrong. I have developed a thick skin. Nothing is perfect in life and my marriage is okay. I am happy

The actress further said that whenever her husband misses her, he calls her to come home and she has her way of making him happy whenever he is upset with her for any reason.

If your friend knows what makes you happy, he would always encourage and support you. That is my husband. When it comes to my job, he supports me fully because he knows that is what makes me happy. I cannot also thank my mother enough because she has been of tremendous support.”

Van Heerden and her family, from Pretoria, South Africa were on board the 09:15am Air Mauritius flight MK851 headed for OR Tambo on Thursday morning when she made the nauseating discovery.

The Van Heerden’s had just enjoyed a 9-day Sugar Bay beach break on the island of Mauritius but unfortunately it was not about to end well.

“It was really upsetting for me, as I had eaten half of my meal already,” said Van Heerden. “I believe they came from the mushrooms, I looked down, asking myself, ‘What is this? I took a photo with my iPad and enlarged it. That’s when I saw it was a maggot and said ‘no this can’t be?’.”

“Maggots!?” After bringing it to the flight attendants attention, Van Heerden said he explained it might be some “kind of spice”. “He tried to cut it in front of me and then agreed that it definitely was not a spice. It was a maggot. I didn’t even think to get the flight attendants name, as I was too busy concentrating on not throwing up.”

According to Van Heerden, the male flight attendant was very apologetic, saying how sorry he was when he took the meal away. But it was the attitude of a female flight attendant that disappointed Van Heerden the most. “She did not apologise, she only brought me a form and said she would bring the issue to the attention of the catering company. They didn’t even bring me water or offer me Eno even though I was clearly feeling very ill and even told them I was feeling sick. Instead, I had to take two nausea tablets from a lady who was sitting two rows down from me,” Van Heerden said..

Air Mauritius is investigating the matter and will respond with comment as soon as possible.

A thief was involved in an ghastly accident while trying to escape with the motorcycle he stole along Abu King Shuluwa road, Makurdi Benue state yesterday October 1st.

According to Benue.com, the thief who disguised as a passenger, had flagged down a motorcycle rider and asked to be taken to Tse-Ayihe, a suburb on the outskirts of Makurdi. When they arrived at his destination, the thief forcefully snatched the motorcycle from the rider.

It was the end of the road when they reportedly drowned in a canal around the Ojota area of Lagos State after they had snatched a bag containing a mobile phone and the sum of N13,000 from a victim and wanted to escape through the canal.

It was gathered that a five-man gang that had unleashed terror on Olusosun community in the area and allegedly snatched the bag from the victim at about 8pm but two of them were apprehended by the local vigilante in the area and handed over to the Alausa Police Division, while three of the robbers escaped.

The other vigilante members gave the fleeing robbers a hot chase and two of them were equally unlucky as they became trapped in the canal where their corpses were found the next day
An eyewitness narrated how the incident came about:
“It was a about 8pm on Thursday. I knew when officers of the Neighbourhood Watch at the Olusosun dump gave the robbers a chase. They later got two of them and took them to the police at Alausa....

Tope Ogunmodede, 52, A cobbler has committed suicide by hanging himself in Akure, the Ondo State capital, weekend, Vanguard reports.

The deceased, who according to reports was mentally challenged, took his own life out of frustration at Lafe area of Akure.

It was also gathered that the family of Tope had been battling with his health challenges for 32 years.

He was supposed to have gone for his routine medical check up last Thursday but had to be shifted to today because of the Eid-el-Kabir holiday.

The deceased, who had been staying on the same room with the mother because of his health challenge, was reportedly left at home alone on the day he committed suicide.

The mother, identified as Comfort, left the house for an urgent personal engagement only to return hours later to behold the dangling body of his son.

The mother was said to have been suspicious that something bad had happened when she got back home and failed to meet his sick son in his usual seat.

Eyewitness account said the mother searched the rooms in the house until she saw his dangling body in one of the rooms.....

Six days after the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, disclosed that a notorious cult member, nicknamed Anarchy, was killed in gun duel with the police, the suspect’s father is now crying foul. The father of the deceased, Pastor Olumide Balogun, alleged a police sergeant mowed down his son in cold blood.

But addressing journalists on Wednesday, Owoseni said that policemen killed one of the most notorious cult members, operating in the Bariga area of Lagos State. He said: “Anarchy was killed on Tuesday at Bariga area during a gun duel with policemen. Anarchy’s group was about to engage a rival group in supremacy when scared residents suddenly put a distress call across to the police.”

According to Owoseni, police raced to the scene. On sighting the policemen, Anarchy and some members of his group, rather than take to their heels, engaged the policemen in a gun battle. He added: “Anarchy had been on police wanted list for long. Police responded to a distress call at Bariga.

Anarchy engaged policemen in a shootout. One of the cultists was arrested and weapon recovered. Anarchy, however, suffered bullet injury and died on the way to the hospital.” However, Balogun the said Anarchy was never a cult member.Balogun gave his son’s name as Abiodun Balogun, 33. According to him, Abiodun was shot dead by a police sergeant identified as Adekan Adesola at Ilaje Bariga area of Lagos. He said: “The sergeant trailed and shot my son at the spot where he went to collect Sallah ram from a politician in the community. I was in the church when I received the call that my son had been killed.”

The pastor said that Abiodun was a brick moulder and had never been known to belong to any cult group. He added: “Since the day my son was shot, I have been to the Lagos State Command Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) cell to search for my son, but I could not find him. All I was given there was his case file.

“I learnt that the policeman that shot him took my son’s necklace and his N400,000. I want the Commissioner of Police to summon the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Bariga and probe the role played by the sergeant in the murder of my son.”

Balogun, who is also the secretary of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Odiolowo, Mushin branch, said: “I raised my son in a godly way. If he belonged to cult a group, as a father, I would have known. The policeman took away my son’s money. Nigerians should not allow the sergeant that killed my son to go away with his corpse.

They should give me my son’s corpse!” When our correspondent visited Ajileye Street, where the Baloguns lived, sympathisers gathered at their home, mourning Abiodun. Abiodun’s mother, Mrs Adenike Balogun, said: “The police sergeant is a cult member.

He belonged to Eiye Confraternity. He wanted Abiodun to join his group, but my son refused. Since then, he had been hunting my son. “I was still with my son on Monday. We discussed how we would celebrate the Sallah. I didn’t know that evil was lurking. It was around 8am on that fateful day that someone called me.

In a recent interview with The Punch, the fair skinned beauty stated that, “The truth is that I’ve never undergone plastic surgery of any kind and I have nothing against it or persons who have given it a shot.

I have several fitness regimens and I also contour my body. That way, my body has a svelte outline that many mistake for body enhancement.”

Rukkie who also spoke about her love for tattoo and body piercing, says she needs no artificial enhancement to satisfy societal expectations.

A Reports reaching us have indicated that the kidnappers of Olu Falae, a chieftain of Afenifere and National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), have demanded for a N100 million ransom.

Chief Falae, a former secretary to the government and presidential aspirant in the 1999 presidential elections, was kidnapped from his home in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State early Monday.

According to Remi Olayiwole, the spokesperson for SDP, the kidnappers demanded that the ransom be paid latest by end of Tuesday…

Ex-Secretary to Government of the Federation and Afenifere chieftain, and former presidential candidate Chief Olu Falae has been kidnapped.

With sketchy reports on Monday, said Falae was kidnapped from his residence on Oba-Ile Road, Akure, the Ondo state capital.

The 77-year-old politician was secretary to the military government of Ibrahim Babangida from January 1986 to December 1990 and was briefly the Finance Minister in 1990.

He ran for Nigeria’s president in 1999 on the joint platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and the All People’s Party (APP) against Olusegun Obasanjo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Facebook is finally determined to add a “dislike” button to its social network, founder Mark Zuckerberg has said.

In a Q+A session held at Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, the 31-year-old said the button would be a way for people to express empathy.

He said Facebook was “very close” to having it ready for user testing.

A “dislike” button has been constantly requested by some users since the introduction of the now-iconic “like” button in 2009.

“People have asked about the ‘dislike’ button for many years,” Mr Zuckerberg told the audience on Tuesday.

“Probably hundreds of people have asked about this, and today is a special day because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it, and are very close to shipping a test of it.”

However he went on to say he did not want it to be a mechanism with which people could “down vote” others’ posts.

Instead, it will be for times when clicking “like” on “sad” posts felt insensitive.

Following the chairman of Forte Oil, Femi Otedola, decision to sell House Hold Kerosene (HHK) at N50/litre, being over 50 per cent reduction of its current pump price, the billionaire oil magnate has effortlessly made a grand entrance into the pantheon of Nigeria's 21st century crusaders.

He calls it 'Buhari Kerosene' and has ordered that all his fuel stations across the country should henceforth sell HHK at N50/litre in furtherance of his decision to identify with President Buhari's bid to ameliorate the hardships faced by millions of Nigerians daily.

The Forte Oil boss had recently blown the lid off the activities of shady characters in the oil sector whom he blamed for selling House Hold Kerosene (HHK) as Jet A1 fuel, also called Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK), to airline operators. In a statement signed by him, Otedola revealed: "This illicit act has been identified as the major factor contributing to the rising cost of kerosene in the country and may also be the cause of some of the air mishaps we have encountered in the country in recent times."

The Forte Oil boss stated that while HHK is sold by the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), an arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at the regulated price of N40.90k with the objective of selling to the average Nigerian at the pump price of N50 per litre, major HHK dealers sell the product to poor Nigerians at the pump price of N125 per litre. And the development is attributable to the emergence of mushroom marketers who are desperate to make a killing by selling kerosene as Jet A1 fuel to major local and international airlines at the pump price of N140/litre or even higher.

This is a real life story.

Believe it or not, I am a virgin at the age of 25. My problem now is that my boss and her daughter are both trying to get me into bed. After I finished at the law school, my mum arranged for me to work in her friend’s chambers to gain experience.

Sadly, my mother recently lost her battle against breast cancer. She died, leaving me devastated and my boss said if I ever needed anyone to talk to, she would always be there for me.

Then, she started inviting me to her place for meals. She’s a single mother of two and lives with her daughter who is my age-mate. I was leaving her house one night, after a meal when she asked me to wait. She shut the door and started kissing me, but she stopped when her daughter arrived home. The next day at work, she started sending me saucy e-mails, saying, “I think you have a hot body.”

Now, she’s confessed she has feelings for me and she wants things to get sexual between us. I’ve never had sex before, so I don’t think I’d be much good to her.

I’ve also been spending time with her daughter. She’s single and I’ve introduced her to my friends because she wants to meet a man. This had taken my mind off things and got me socialising again. My boss’ daughter is very pretty and I thought she’d find a man quickly, but it hasn’t happened, so, I asked her why. She said it was because the person she would really love to be with is me.
