Programming / Re: I Want To Learn Programming But I Suck At Mathematics by Xinjin: 4:41pm On Jun 11, 2022
If you want to gain a good knowledge of programming you can't dodge basic mathematics. math logic is always needed in programming, and some concepts of programming are purely base off mathematics. If you want to learn programming you must start falling in love with mathematics. you can always read along.
Programming / Re: Django Dev Looking For A Job by Xinjin: 6:47pm On Jun 09, 2022
Stop wasting your time looking for someone to build a website for. django itself is high demand. be patient, learn it very well(MVT, testing, auth, db, orm, drf, email ...) brush up your python, pick up a frontend language, build more project, shine your github and apply for remote work

Same here, I regretted not going in for medicine. I switch to engineering after my first jamb instead of doing a pre-degree which most of my friends did to study medicine. Now, they are all doing well and married with kids. I pitied my parents funny enough basic in uniport was just 20k. I have never worked with an engineering degree 10 years after graduation with a master's included.

And I will regret the rest of my life if I don't give the Ph.D. route to the US a try. So, here I am saving every penny I have no relationship, no friends; all my buddies have moved on.

Is a lonely road out here bro.
Why not give IT a shot!

Programming / Re: The Best Way To Learn HTML, CSS And Javascript Without Losing Interest by Xinjin: 6:33pm On May 21, 2022
the way to learn any programming language is focus and determination. since you have set a target for your self, just follow it keenly. one of best time to learn programming is when you're not hoping 4 immediate reward.

Coder/Programmer/Web developer/web designer all boil down to same thing. web designing may not involve programming.
Programming / Re: Python Vs Html by Xinjin: 8:33am On Mar 28, 2022
Before you start learning anything, you should answer the question 'what can I do with this thing?' Well as 4 Python you could use it for several thing eg
Data analysis, AI and machine learning, Web development, Game development etc.
HTML is the basic of web development.
as a python dev, would say learning both is a must, regardless which you choose to learn first.

This thread is inspired by the programming diary created by MirthOsas.

I am relatively new to programming. I started learning web development (started with HTML on W3school) in 2018 but my freelancing and ecommerce business could not let me focus coupled with the fact that I found it boring then.

Since this year, I have been nursing the idea of getting into Tech.

I wanted Data science but my mind kept telling me "web development".

Good move, take break and learn the basics of git, and start pushing your project to github. don't waste much time on HTML and css.

For starters it would start on a state basis. Some states have more high-end chefs than others(Lagos and Abuja for example). But ultimately Nigeria. And I get the part about being skeptical about eating from random strangers, so there would be some measures put in place. First of all the social media aspect of the app allows you to know the chef you’re ordering from on a semi-personal level. Also it would be high end meals only, not the regular meal you can get easily almost anywhere. And as a chef there would be a screening process, and also a probation period. Also it’s not just only chefs, branded restaurants are also welcome as well. Like I said this is just an MVP, there’s still opportunity to reiterate and pivot and flesh out the idea some more.

And I checked out the mealpal too, they support restaurants only, right? So they kinda act like a third party that connects restaurants and customers.
I guess the next step is design and implementation

This is a nice idea backup with good steps. I'd like to known if these would cover the whole of 9ja?. Though people can be sensitive to eating from random/ unknown source. Would probably be better to have a branded restaurants and market it online. Op check out Mealpal. com, a meal subscription start-up in New York that has gain more than $30million fund.

True.

Many companies don't do whiteboard interviews. It's straight up project-based.

I think there's a subreddit where companies in that category are listed.
Actually what I notice myself this days, is project based interview (within a time frame)

Unfortunately, going by the feedbacks on this thread, a lot of people don't give a damn about it. Most of the applications i sent out without getting a response from recruiters was when I had scanty github contributions.

Thank God for mentors, it changed dramatically. I didn't know there was something called job application package specific to software development roles.

1. Completed github profile with solid contributions (Open source projects inclusive). With links to your email, portfolio, linkedin e.t.c)

2. Professional linkedin profile. Also tailored and well crafted for software development.

3. Resume (Tailored for software development roles).
4. Cover letter (Needless to say it should be tailored to a particular role).
5. I even built a solid Angelist profile.
6. Stackoverflow profile.

"Miraculously", these changed the game for me and saved me from blindly applying to jobs without getting any response. Since then, I've worked at multiple projects and orgs (only US orgs).

Plus my experience, now I get an average of four unsolicited invitatitions from head hunters per month.

The reason for this shalaye is that technical knowledge is not enough. Sadly.
Your points are valid. I had an interview last week, and was asked why my github didn't match my years of experience, lol I had to pause. since then I stop applying and now focus on updating my github.

Is this THE SEUN?

Does not necessarily mean everyone on this thread is looking for work though.

Most times I'm on nairaland when I feel like throwing my system through the window or smashing it against the wall out of frustration. Like right now. 15 minutes task has turned to 4 days of bugs from hell.
as a working dev, do you get a fixed time to complete a task?

He has indeed learnt alot, don't 4get he went back to sch during this period.

I don't know who is advising you but your love for a particular field alone doesn't justify you going to that field. You have to make sure there are also opportunities before you choose where to focus.

Have you ever browsed LinkedIn jobs or any where and you saw influx of Data science jobs? Or is it sand that you want to be eating after learning data science? Have you ever asked yourself why and how do companies recruit for data science roles?

This is the same reason people choose foolish courses in the University like Sociology or Biz Admin because they like it or their friends told them to do it without any research from their own end.

You will finish learning this data science now and start crying all over NL for jobs. You berra use your head.
lol you sound too harsh though
