ezenwaez:
Recently lots of Npower Batch C Volunteers were faced with a reversal on their payment status from "pending" back to "failed", please this is a network glitch and it will soon be rectified as the disbursement of payment bounced back from CBN and it is under processing.

As we speak all outstanding and October stipend is at its concluding stage, and all Npower Batch C Volunteers that their payment status is on pending will be paid, please if you noticed a reversal in your payment status from pending to failed please exercise patience as this issue is not from the N-Power Batch C Volunteers but from Npower NASIMS management systems.

Good day, I missed my physical verification and I have not been receiving payments. I have gone to the secretariat/office where they did the verification but I was told that they've stopped physical verification.

What do I do?

Health / South Africa Blasts UK For Hasty Covid Travel Ban by xoftxoul: 4:34pm On Nov 26, 2021
South Africa has hit out at the UK after the British government rushed to impose a travel ban on multiple African nations over concerns about a mutated strain of the Covid virus, which has been detected in a small number of cases.
On Thursday evening, the UK moved several African countries to its ‘red list,’ restricting travel to essential journeys and requiring all arrivals to quarantine.

The Covid restrictions on travel to Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, and South Africa were imposed swiftly due to concerns from British officials that the ‘Nu’ B.1.1.529 strain of the coronavirus could be more transmissible, while vaccines “may be less effective” against it.

Responding to the UK’s actions, South Africa’s foreign minister, Naledi Pandor, on Friday criticized the travel ban as risking causing damage to “both the tourism industries and businesses of both countries.”
South Africa’s Foreign Ministry has said it will seek to convince the UK to reconsider the restrictions. Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to convene an advisory council on Sunday to discuss the country’s response to the Nu strain.

The criticism from South Africa was supported by scientists who have called for less of a focus on travel bans and more attention to be directed towards bolstering vaccination programs.

“This virus can evolve in the absence of adequate levels of vaccination. It's upsetting that it takes this to happen to get the point across,” Richard Lessells, a South Africa-based infectious disease expert, told Reuters.

Currently, only around 35% of South African adults are fully inoculated against Covid-19, while the number is lower in other African nations, as the continent has struggled to compete against wealthier nations for access to vaccine supplies.

On Friday, Belgium reported the first known case of the ‘Nu’ variant in Europe, believed to have been found in a young woman who had recently traveled to Egypt via Turkey.

While scientists are still analyzing samples taken from the woman, they have confirmed the results look “suspicious” and are not the Delta variant, which is dominant in Belgium.

Celebrities / Madonna Blasts Instagram After It Took Down Her Photos For Revealed Nipple by xoftxoul: 9:42am On Nov 26, 2021
Madonna reposted photos of herself after saying Instagram took down her original post after she exposed “a small portion of my nipple”.

Madonna is blasting Instagram after it took down her photos.

On Thursday, the singer, 63, shared photos of herself posing on a bed and wearing black lingerie and fishnets on Instagram, using a heart emoji to cover up her left breast.

Madonna previously shared the photos to her account the night before without the emoji but explained in her latest post that the company had taken them down due to violations.

"I'm reposting photographs Instagram took down without warning or notification….. The reason they gave my management that does not handle my account was that a small portion of my nipple was exposed," she wrote in the caption.

She continued, "It is still astounding to me that we live in a culture that allows every inch of a woman's body to be shown except a nipple. As if that is the only part of a woman's anatomy that could be sexualized. The nipple that nourishes the baby!"

"Can't a man's nipple be experienced as erotic ??!! And what about a woman's ass which is never censored anywhere. Giving thanks that I have managed to maintain my sanity through four decades of censorship…… sexism……ageism and misogyny," she added.

Madonna has never shied away from the camera. In April, the Madame X singer posted a series of topless selfies to her Instagram.

In the topless images, Madonna gazed at the camera with a serious expression on her face as her long blonde hair hangs down the front of her body, concealing her breasts.

"Why do I have to Explain Everything ... ," she wrote in the caption.

Foreign Affairs / Lithuania Tells Citizens To Discard Chinese Mobile Phones; Especially Xiaomi by xoftxoul: 2:33pm On Sep 22, 2021
Government report claims censorship software on Xiaomi phones can be switched on remotely.

Lithuanian authorities have asked citizens not to buy Chinese mobile phones and discard any they might already have after a government report claimed they may have censorship capabilities installed.

A report by Lithuania’s cybersecurity body on Tuesday said phones made by Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi have built-in censorship tools to recognize various terms, including “Free Tibet,” “Long live Taiwan independence” and “democracy movement,” according to a report by Politico Europe.

The censorship software in Xiaomi’s Mi 10T 5G phone had been switched off in the “European Union region” but can be switched on remotely at any time, the report by the Lithuanian Defense Ministry’s National Cyber Security Center said.

“Our recommendation is to not buy new Chinese phones, and to get rid of those already purchased as fast as reasonably possible,” said Deputy Defense Minister Margiris Abukevicius.

Relations between Lithuania and China have soured recently as Beijing recalled its ambassador in August after Vilnius decided to set up a new diplomatic office in Taiwan.

China sees Taiwan as a breakaway province and part of the country, a claimed disputed internationally.
Foreign Affairs / Top Aide To Ukrainian President Survives Assassination Attempt by xoftxoul: 2:23pm On Sep 22, 2021
A top adviser to the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, has survived an assassination attempt that officials suggest is tied to a political battle with criminal and corrupt interests, including the countries’ oligarchs.

At least 10 bullets struck the car of Serhiy Shefir, an aide and longtime friend of Zelenskiy, on Wednesday as he travelled through the village of Lesnyky toward the capital, Kyiv.

The driver was struck three times and is undergoing surgery. Shefir was not hit by the gunfire, which reportedly came from a forested area along the road.

Photographs showed police had marked at least 10 bullet holes in the black Audi sedan used by Shefir, a business partner of Zelenskiy for nearly two decades. The automatic gunfire was concentrated along the driver’s side door, also striking the windscreen and a back tyre.

Police have not arrested any suspects. Moscow, which is engaged in a simmering proxy war with Kyiv in south-east Ukraine, has denied responsibility for the attack.

Zelenskiy said he would cut short a trip to New York after addressing the United Nations general assembly.

“I will honestly say that I don’t know who was behind this,” said Zelenskiy in a video message after the attack. “These could be internal or external forces. But I don’t consider them to be strong because sending me a ‘hello’ by firing from a forest into the automobile of my friend is weakness.

“This [attack] will not affect the strength of our team. This does not affect the path toward change that I have chosen with my team, for taking our economy out of the shadows, for the fight against criminal elements with large, influential financial groups – on the contrary, because the people of Ukraine gave us a mandate for change.”

Shefir appeared at a news conference later on Wednesday, thanking emergency workers and his “hero” driver, who is in critical condition.

“The assassination attempt was carried out in an effort to frighten the upper echelon of government,” Shefir said. “But you need to understand that the president … is a very strong-willed person who is not easily frightened,”

Oleksandr Korniienko, the head of the president’s political party, said Russia could be behind the attack, Reuters reported.

“A Russian trace should not be absolutely ruled out. We know their ability to organise terrorist attacks in different countries,” Korniienko told reporters.

“It has nothing to do with reality,” said Dmitri Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, referring to suggestions of Russia’s involvement. “Rather, these are signs of an overexcited emotional state.”

Some local officials have been targeted in attacks in recent months in Ukraine. This month, a regional government emergency service spokesperson and a first aid volunteer helping the Ukrainian army were killed in a car bombing in Dnipro.

But the assassination attempt against Shefir is the highest-profile attack in recent memory.

“This can’t be qualified as anything other than an attempt to demonstratively murder a key member of the team,” Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Zelenskiy’s chief of staff, told local Ukrainian media.

He connected the attack to efforts to “significantly reduce the traditional influence of shadowy oligarchs on public matters”, as well as criminal groups working for Ukraine’s “foreign opponents”.

Zelenskiy’s efforts at reducing the influence of powerful business interests in Ukraine have received mixed reviews. He made his name as a comic and producer on a television station owned by the tycoon Ihor Kolomoisky, who was placed under sanctions by the US due to corruption allegations in March.

Ukraine’s parliament is to debate a draft law on oligarchs this week that would define criteria for oligarchs and ban them from financing political parties or engaging in privatisations.

Sports / Leeds Player Flew Instantly By Helicopter From Hospital To Play Full 90 Minutes by xoftxoul: 2:12pm On Sep 22, 2021
Dan James flew by helicopter from the birth of his son to play the full 90 minutes in Leeds’ Carabao Cup win over Fulham on Tuesday night.

The former Manchester United winger joined the Whites this summer in a £25million move, showing just how keen Marcelo Bielsa was on James after failing to sign him in 2019.

So keen in fact, that the Leeds boss started James after his three hour helicopter flight from Manchester to London for the victorious cup clash against Fulham.

The new father explained: “My baby boy was born this afternoon, thank you to the manager for letting me be in Manchester for that.

“Absolutely amazing day for me and the Mrs, so proud of her and it was a late one, something we could not change.

“The manager let me do it so I was able to be there for the birth of my baby and come to the game tonight.

“He was born just after 12, the car would have been a bit too long so I ended up getting a helicopter. A bit of an amazing story and one I will always remember.”

James played the full game on Tuesday even netting in the shoot-out after the game finished scoreless after 90 minutes.

He had spent the morning in hospital with his partner Ria Hughes, and was able to spend a few hours with the newborn before jetting down south to London.

James also admitted his departure was so quick they didn’t have time to name the baby, saying: “We don’t have a name yet and will think of a name when we get home.”

Health / New Covid Variant, Known As ‘mu’ by xoftxoul: 1:50pm On Sep 01, 2021
The World Health Organization (WHO) has reclassified the ‘Mu’ Covid strain, also known as B.1.621, as a “variant of interest,” amid concerns that its mutations indicate a potential risk of resistance to existing vaccines.
The WHO announced the classification in the organization’s weekly pandemic bulletin on Tuesday, several months after the Mu strain was first identified in Colombia.

“The Mu variant has a constellation of mutations that indicate potential properties of immune escape,” the WHO said, adding that “preliminary data showed it has the same behaviour as the Beta variant.”

The decision to monitor the Mu strain comes amid concern from the WHO about the potential risk of resistance to vaccines posed by new mutations, as case numbers begin to rise globally in countries that have relaxed Covid restrictions.

Since first emerging in Colombia back in January, the Mu variant has spread to other South American nations and some parts of Europe. Despite adding it to its monitoring list, the WHO says the Mu strain only has a 0.1% global prevalence among sequenced cases.

The addition of the Mu strain to the list of variants of interest marks the first time a mutated version of the virus has been added to the list since June, when the Lambda mutation – first detected in Peru – was included among those being monitored by the WHO.

Currently, the WHO has identified four strains as “variants of concern,” including Alpha, which has spread to 193 countries, and Delta, which has fueled a rise in cases across the globe. Five strains, now including Mu, are being monitored as “variants of interest.”

Celebrities / Meghan Markle: Piers Morgan May Return To Good Morning Britain Show. by xoftxoul: 1:38pm On Sep 01, 2021
Former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has celebrated his Ofcom victory after Ofcom ruled that he was "entitled" to share his views about Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Piers Morgan has said he's "delighted" as Ofcom cleared his rants on Meghan Markle on Good Morning Britain.

The journalist, 56, made Ofcom history as his rants about the Duchess of Sussex became the most complained about moment on TV, with a total of 57,121 complaints.

Meghan, 40, was amongst those who complained to the regulator about Piers' comments. The former GMB host sensationally stormed off the GMB set and later quit the show following his rants.

Now, Ofcom have ruled that Piers' comments have not broken any of the regulator's rules.

The ruling from the regulatory body reads: "The interview between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Oprah Winfrey contained serious allegations and it was legitimate for this Programme to discuss and scrutinise those claims inglcuing their veracity.

"Ofcom is clear that, consistent with freedom of expression, Mr Morgan was entitled to say be disbelieved the Duke and Duchess' allegations and to told and express strong views that rigorously challenged their account.

"The Code allows for individuals to express strongly held and robustly argued views, including those that are potentially harmful or highly offensive, and for broadcasters to include these in their programming.

Piers soon celebrated the ruling as he wrote on his Twitter page: "I’m delighted OFCOM has endorsed my right to disbelieve the Duke & Duchess of Sussex’s incendiary claims to Oprah Winfrey, many of which have proven to be untrue.

"This is a resounding victory for free speech and a resounding defeat for Princess Pinocchios."

He then ended the tweet by asking: "Do I get my job back?"

Piers later shared the news on his Instagram page and was supported by his son Spencer who commented: "Never in doubt" followed by a fist bump emoji.
