Our Academy beat Barcelona on Sunday to reach the final of the Bellinzona Tournament in Switzerland. Steven Caulker (pictured) headed home the only goal of the semi-final after 20 minutes to set-up a final tie against Sporting Lisbon on Monday. Coach Alex Inglethorpe described the win as one if the best for our Academy in tournament football. "It's certainly right up there," he said on Sunday night. "Barcelona have one of the best Academy set-ups in the world and regularly produce players for their first team. "You have to take into account that we're one of the youngest squads out here and that we're without the likes of Andros Townsend and Jon Obika (on loan at Yeovil). We started against Barcelona with two Under-16 players in what is in effect an Under-20 tournament. It was a very big scalp for us. "We started brightly, dominated and that's what we wanted to do. "I thought we were good value for the lead. Kudos Oyenuga dragged a chance wide but we took the lead after 20 minutes when Steven Caulker powered home a header from Ryan Mason's corner. "We had chances after that and then defended magnificently - Oscar Jansson did not have a save to make. "In fact, we had another chance to make it 2-0 right at the end but Nathan Byrne was denied by the goalkeeper. "It was a fantastic achievement and a superb performance but we don't want to get to the final and lose it. We'll do everything we can to win it." Sporting Lisbon beat Paraguay side Guarany 3-0 in Sunday's second semi-final. Spurs: Jansson, Smith, Cox, Parrett, Caulker, Butcher, Byrne, Kasim, Oyenuga, Mason, Kane (Ekim, 50). |

Gilberto and Ryan Mason delivered inch-perfect free-kicks as our reserves secured a deserved 3-0 win over Arsenal on Thursday night. Both strikes came from almost the same position - just outside the penalty area, right of centre - after 11 and 69 minutes respectively at Barnet's Underhill Stadium. Jake Livermore capped an impressive performance with the third goal in the 77th minute to keep alive hopes of catching leaders Aston Villa in the Barclays Premier Reserve League South. There were a few changes to the side that beat Villa last time out, most notably Alan Huttom returning at right-back and Kyle Fraser-Allen back from his loan spell at Macclesfield and starting up front. Gilberto's free-kick opener represented the first real effort at either end and came after Takura Mtandari was chopped down on the edge of the box. Gilberto made it look so easy, a measured swing of the left foot and the ball nestled into the far corner. Mason forced a fine save out of Gunners keeper James Shea as we continued to press in the first half before the home side finally came to life in the final minutes, Amaury Bischoff chipped just over and Ben Alnwick raced off his line to deny Sanchez Watt. The sides swapped headed chances at the start of the second half as Alnwick tipped over from Watt and Hutton powered Mason's corner just over. Watt tested Alnwick again from the edge of the box but Arsenal's chances were kept to a minumum thanks to the sheer hard work of the lads in all areas of the pitch. The next goal was key and it arrived in the 69th minute. Mason was initially tripped on the edge of the box and lined-up the free-kick with Gilberto. Most would have expected the Brazilian to step up but Mason took over and in some style, curling low around the defensive wall and in off the post. The lads continued to hustle when Arsenal were in possession and it paid handsome dividends with 77 minutes on the clock. Centre-back Luke Ayling dwelled too long on the ball, Livermore won it off him, advanced into the box and slotted past Shea. Hutton met Mason corners twice more, guiding headers just wide, before the Academy's top scorer tried his luck again from a free-kick from exactly the same place as the first two. This time, Mason curled over the wall for the far corner and Shea needed to grasp the ball at full stretch to prevent a hat-trick of free-kicks to remember. Arsenal: Shea, Eastmond, Cruise, Merida, Bartley, Ayling, Randall, Frimpong, Watt (Sunu, 66), Bischoff (Evina, 66), Emmanuel-Thomas. Subs: Coquelin, Dunne. Spurs: Alnwick, Hutton, Hughton, Livermore, Rocha, Gilberto, Mtandari, Parrett (Byrne, 60), Fraser-Allen, Mason, Maghoma. Subs: Button, Asajile, Nicholson. |

Following this morning's reports, Juande has today posted the following statement on his website - www.juanderamos.com - in order to set the record straight regarding the transfers of Keane and Berbatov. Juande was keen to ensure that Spurs supporters were aware of his statement. "I understand that my comments regarding the sale of Keane and Berbatov have been misrepresented in the UK press. For the record Daniel Levy did not sell these players to make money. They were sold for footballing reasons. The players wanted to change teams because they had the opportunity to play in the Champions League. During my time at Tottenham I always received support from the Chairman regarding sporting decisions to make Spurs an even greater team: I maintain an excellent relationship with him and I am convinced that he is doing everything he can to lead Spurs to a successful future." |

team news Harry Redknapp has a host of injuries to contend with ahead of today FA Cup fourth round tie at Manchester United. The manager faces taking on the champions without up to 11 injured players - many of whom he's worried may not be fit to face Stoke in a key Premier League fixture at the Lane on Tuesday. On top of that, he's without Fraizer Campbell at Old Trafford as the loanee striker cannot play against his parent club. The players who are definitely out for Saturday are goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes (thigh), Vedran Corluka (groin), Ledley King (hamstring), Aaron Lennon (groin), Jermaine Jenas (calf), Darren Bent (groin), Jamie O'Hara (hip) and Alan Hutton (foot). Harry reported that Jonathan Woodgate (back) and Luka Modric (back, hamstring) were also unlikely to feature and that Michael Dawson had 'about four different injuries'. Neverthless, the manager said he would play the strongest team available. "We've got so many injuries it's very difficult to put out our strongest team," he said. "I will field the best available team. "I had players missing at Burnley but I didn't rest them - I wouldn't rest them for a semi-final that takes us to Wembley, they just weren't fit. "Aaron Lennon, Corluka, Ledley King, Gomes - they weren't fit for Burnley and won't be fit for Saturday. We've another list of injuries from Burnley as well. "Jamie O'Hara is going for a scan on a hip problem and could be out for several weeks "Luka Modric has a bit of a stiff back and he feels his hamstrings are getting a bit tight. He could be fit for tomorrow though and if he's fit, he'll play. Jonthan Woodgate is also struggling. "However, we're not taking a reserve team to Old Trafford and everyone who is fit, will play," Harry also suggested that Giovani, Adel Taarabt and Ricardo Rocha will all be involved and Academy goalkeeper Mirko Ranieri was likely to be on the bench as cover for Ben Alnwick. |
