Tottenham Team news

Harry Redknapp rates Rafa van der Vaart's chances as '50-50, at best' to face Liverpool on Sunday.

The Dutch playmaker picked up an injury just above his anke in Saturday's 3-2 win against Arsenal and that ruled him out of Wednesday's Champions League victory over Werder Bremen.

Jermaine Jenas is Harry's other main doubt after limping off early against Werder Bremen with a calf problem.

"Rafa's chances are 50-50, at best," reported Harry on Friday morning (November 26).

"He's not going to train with us today, so tomorow is really the last chance for him to be fit.

"We did okay though on Wednesday night, played with two strikers and always looked dangerous.

"Jermain Defoe is also getting fit and he will be involved again. If Rafa's fit, great, but he's doubtful.

"JJ has a tight calf and he's going for a scan today. We're all hoping it's not a tear, we'll have to wait and see on that one."

Good news sees Michael Dawson return to full training with the first team this morning.

Ledley King (groin) remains out alongside longer-term injuries Jonathan Woodgate (groin) and Jamie O'Hara (back)

We were saddened to hear that our former coach and assistant manager, Pat Welton, passed away on Monday. He was 82.

Pat coached successfully at Youth level for both England and Spurs and then stepped up to assist Keith Burkinshaw when he took over as manager in July, 1976.

After an impressive playing career as a goalkeeper, mainly with Orient and later Queens Park Rangers, Pat subsequently managed in non-league football with St Albans and Walthamstow Avenue.

As a player he was a member of the Orient team that won the Third Division (South) Championship in 1956.

However, his strength was in youth development and, as international manager, he led England to victory in the UEFA Championship at that level in 1963.

He continued that success when he became our first full-time youth manager in August, 1969, coaching our side to two FA Youth Cup triumphs in the early 1970s.

Moving up to the first team, he served the Club for four years - including our promotion back to the First Division in 1978. He later worked with Burkinshaw in Bahrain.

Pat will always be remembered at White Hart Lane not just for his professional ability but also as an extremely likeable personality. We extend our condolences to his family and friend at this sad time.

Tottenham

• Tottenham have already secured a place in the top four for the first time since 1989/90; a season that they finished third, a point ahead of Arsenal.

• 21 wins is the most the club has achieved in Premier League history and equal to the 21 they won in the 1986-87 season. A win over Burnley would be their best since the 1984/85 campaign.

• A total of 19 different players have scored in the Premier League for Spurs this season; more than any other team in any other previous season.

• Another clean sheet would set another club record in the Premier League. If they did keep a clean sheet, their tally of 37 goals conceeded would be the fewest they have let in since the 1970/71 campaign, when they let in only 33.

• The 70 points they have already won is also a club record in the Premier League and their best since they won 71 in the 1986/87 campaign. Another win would see Spurs claim their best points tally since 1984/85 (77).
