specifying the language you are using would help a lot
If the language is C#/VB use SQL server if not, use mySQL
BTW, i prefer mySQL - just a personal preference

Good idea, let me help you a lot
Simplest way to do that ( i do this always - it's my way ) is to use good old pen and paper - use a book or multiple A4 papers
and THINK then write down your though at this point it won't be something useful
Then later on, again think, the following day again the same thing, when you are free but during classes hours e.g 8-2 think - jot down ideas
Keep doing this in 1 week, compile everything and you'll see you're done, don't worry about algorithm
Start to code it parts by parts till you'll have a complete application
Thats what i do, i always code my ideas in parts i.e do A jump to K, go to L go to Z then come back to B

Come back after one week with your response

Next time, Ask the particular area you need help with.

TO use Visual Studio for Java, you have to have Visual Studio 2005 version, form 2008 upwards the support was deprecated i think largely to some problem Microsoft had.
You already have your answer already, you can use Netbeans for Java it is very goood my second best IDE after Visual Studio

You don't need to do anything you just have to deploy the asp.net application to an IIS server then use any system even mac and linux, and point to the address of the asp.net web application and that is it.
Asp.net is server side,it runs on the server and only shows it as an html/css/javascript so having the server is only for hosting, view your code in VS you'll see something like <asp:BlahBlah> </asp:BlahBlah>, but if you view the source code in the browser you wont see that, you'll see something else

I did a similar CRUD project too (web) using Php, i can do java, console and GUI but i can't do web, didn't want to learn the java web

I have windows 8 downloaded, and many different kind of activators - i would just use the kms method, get WMC from Microsoft and bam that is it
I also have office 13,like windows 8 it sucks , MSFT used their ugly metro design language on that so i won't be using office 2013, i should probably delete it with the kms activator
If not because of developing metro apps is a must then i would have been on windows 7

I did a java application similar to yours a while back
by using mySQL as your db, the end user has to have mysql installed and configured because maybe you used 'root' & 'password' as your username & password respectively mysql defaults to 'root' & '' (no password) after install
So solution is DROP mySQL and use Sql lite - SQL lite is an 'embedded' database it doesnt really need the end use to have to install mysql or sql server doesnt realllly care about the database engine.
You can have the db alongside the .jar so if you run the .jar it can communicate with the sql lite db it really is just a file .db i think
Though sql lite doesnt have as many features as Mysql it would do the same job. Distributing the folder is all what you have to do

BTW, Try and use SQL lite and please let me know how it goes

On windows you could use, Monotouch (xamarin.com/monotouch/) though its expensive,i only have the android version This lets you develop iOS apps natively using C# code on Visual Studio.But you'll still need a mac if lets say you want to take it to the App store.

Or since you said "design an interface for Apple IOS" if you can't afford that i advise you to just use fireworks or photoshop to get the UI if any option is expensive for you
