Please guys, can I open a UK bank account from Nigeria? I have a UK sim given to me at TLS, and should also secure accommodation before my arrival. If yes, which bank would you suggest for someone on Tier 4 visa? I will be coming this month.

Is the sim given to you at TLS Lebara.? If yes, i was also given such in Abuja TLS May. - My sim did not work in Nigeria, immediately i landed in heathrow , it activated and was active, it came with data plan too (3G or so i think) and some minutes.

To answer your question yes you can, i advise use VPN and set location to UK first, go for Monzo. You can use your int'l passport as means of ID for Monzo, that is what i used and have revalidated it using Int'l passport. You also do not need a proof of address to open like Barclays.
You need to secure accommodation before thinking of the bank account as that is where they'd send the card too. But you can use Airbnb if you book a private accommodation but seek permission from the host first before sending a post to his/adress, although i do not know why you are in a hurry as monzo card comes fast. it came in 1 business day to me in London this Nov. Otherwise within 3 as that is when i got previously in east midlands.

So this is my status, is this how it shud be?.
What would it be if the pta is ready?

Just seeing this, it means it has been sent for review , it needs to be approved and then it would show approved, then it'd go to adb_disbursement so you would be added to a queue to await disbursement. Which is better if you talk to someone at the bank so it would be facilitated for you so you get it before travelling . I recently did and collected mine

the ASSIST u mentioned, is it at cbn or local bank level?

You'd get an email if it is approved or if you need to upload additional document e.g Authority of debit
It would be approved by the local bank

the Assist is at the local level, when you talk to someone in CBN they in turn turn to someone at the local bank level

for those who made requsets for pta, especially acces bank, which option did you choose for the pta?, as i learnt paying into the access travel card is easier and faster...but such card isnt listed on the options....

2ndly....is uba fast at processing this pta requests

The option i go for is Cash, this asks how would you like to collect the PTA ?

Please note even if you select cash, as of May 2022 when i applied, UBA gives $500 cash and then load the remaining $3,500 on a prepaid dollar card which you can use to withdraw the remaining $3,500 in atms abroad (assuming you applied for $4,000)

Banks are having low forex with many people waiting on the list so it would take time, find someone to ASSIST you so you get yours on time.

NAF TO INDUCT A-29 SUPER TUCANO AIRCRAFT

The induction ceremony of the newly acquired A-29 Super Tucano aircraft into the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Order of Battle is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 31 August 2021 at the 011 Presidential Air Fleet Apron, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja by 10.00am. It would be recalled that the first batch of 6 A-29 Super Tucano aircraft arrived Kano, Nigeria on 22 July 2021. On arrival, the aircraft were received by the Honourable Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (Rtd), alongside the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao. RiceProducers:

They prepared it in a hurry. Broad strokes requirements. Don't forget the Minister Of Finance went public to say the military were delaying on specifying their requirements for the supplementary budget.
New service chiefs and new GOCs and someone expected requirements to be ready in just a few weeks whilst a war is going on and the Navy was launching Falcon Eye and

Under the same supplementary budget proposal , published by the budget office this was the initial distribution . Air force alone getting slightly over $1Billion . that is N418Billion Naira. Out of N700Billion + . WIth Army getting N104Billion and Navy N88Billion also SSS noticeably absent

However, somewhere along the line the distribution changed . Airforce getting N200Billion + only. SSS, now being included.
Whatever it is , i hope they made the right equipment choice and hope they get delivered quick.

Thanks for this info.
Honestly the federal government and the execute arm should be stringent on how the military chiefs are going to spend the money.
They should be detailed, nor just these type of overall summary. We should know where all these Billions are going cool

Yes i was so excited to see detailed budget details after seeing over N700Billion on security , i expected to see 12 Units of M346 or Yak 131 at N199Billion or 30 CH5 at N16Billion but it is just an overall summary. Even those in N/Assembly don't have the details on which kind of Jets the Airforce are buying. As long as it can take off the ground and fly na so we go take am grin grin grin
but we are sha happy airforce is getting $500Million+

The person who got the details for me got them in bits , i told him not to bother sef with the rest since they would not be be anything interesting. When they land we go know abi are they invisible cheesy ?

Apart from Army getting $118Million for Vehicle
DHQ is also spending some billions for vehicles.

You suppose use your "source" to find out the additional aircraft requirement and the unknown vehicles .

1. 2021 Supplementary Budget Details

Recall the FG is going to borrow Over N800Billion for 2021 supplementary budget which Security agencies would get ~N722Billion for capital expenditure.

Sha here are the best snippets

Army
Vehicle Requirement 48,670,100,000
Defence equipment N96 Billion

Navy
Arms and Ammo Requirement N36B
Purchase of equipment N34Billion and Medium term equipment N21B

Overall the Navy is going to spend N157Billion without mentioning any specific purchase (e.g ships)

Airforce

Additional aircraft N140Billion
Other equipment N84B

However, if we add these two items we get N224Billion, in US dollars using CBN exchange rate of 410 that is $546.3 Million. So that is some serious money. Excluding the Tucanos, i can't remember Airforce spending such amount at once.

Overall the airforce is spending N239Billion

2. Super Tucanos may be delivered tomorrow, in fact it would be according to the Americans . Around May 7th The Perm Sec Defence said below, and it is on its way so i think the Schedule they gave is on track.

"We paid $496millon to the American government and it is getting to three years now, the Super Tucanos are yet to arrive. Last week, we received an email that it will come by 21st of July" -

^^ So in the next 24 hours it should be in Nigeria grin grin
We can only hope the Chiefs would tackle some fundamental problems that has been recurrent in this war for years which the Super Tucano cannot solve.

Zainab Ahmed: Why entitlements of slain soldiers have not been paid

She said the finance ministry just received the 2013 request which unfortunately has not been captured in the 2021 budget.

“We received this request. The question you should also be asking is: ‘Why is the 2013 request just coming now?’ We just received it. So, it wasn’t planned for. It wasn’t budgeted for. And this has happened all these years. So it’s this 2021 that this request is coming,” Ahmed said.

“So, now, we’re left with the work of having to raise money to be able to provide for those families to be paid. And we’re discussing on how we can phase it because it was not provided for in the budget. And then the question you should be asking is: Where has it been kept all this time? Why is the request just coming now?”

Ahmed explained that funds have been provided for claims by the Department of Security Service (DSS) owing to the fact that the requests were made on time, which is not the case with the armed forces.

Abeg who knows why the huge glass covering Oga's table?

Na shield abi wetin

I have seen Ministers such as Pantami, Saleh Mamman, of Communication and Power use that huge glass as a covid 19 barrier. Which also allows them to be more audible when speaking to their guest as they receive "Big men" visitors to their office due to their status. If you wear mask you might have had some people say you are not as audible with mask.

So they do not have to use face mask/ face shield in their own office.

Hope Air does not blow the coronavirus over the glass barrier grin grin

So i do not believe it is a bulletproof glass barrier protecting the COAS. Besides soldiers have access to AHQ but they or any visitor can't access the COAS office. Only few of his soldiers and officers do and they are all handpicked by him. They conduct security screening again after the initial screening to access the HQ

Notice the Tag with the COAS office on Attahiru ? Only those with it can access the COAS office freely. Those he choose personally.

Also notice how the glass in the COAS office has a little opening right at the middle, targeting his stomach precisely if a visitor would sit down. A bulletpoof glass barrier won't have that.
That is to pass things like documents or if the COAS will give you some dollars for the weekend grin grin

Fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have sustained their aggressive onslaught against the Abubakar Shekau’s faction of Boko Haram, killing and arresting some of the rival sect’s Commanders and terrorists, Sources familiar with happening among the terrorists groups have said. They also captured some top Commanders of the Shekau faction like Mustapha Krimima Jaysh, Ba’akaka, Malkin Tijjani, Hirasama and Mallam Ballu who refused to surrender and attempted to escape.

The Sources said a large number of terrorists on gun trucks were recently sighted at Marte, East of Tumour, Tumbumma and Tumbuktu Triangle in Sambisa, after a heavy gun battle of supremacy between ISWAP and Shekau’s Boko Haram fighters at Garin Malam. Meanwhile, series of meetings are being held in Sabeel Huda camp in the heart of Sambisa forest between ISWAP Commanders and other surrendered senior Boko Haram members.]

It was gathered that the fate of the arrested Boko Haram Commanders and fighters would be decided by Albarnawy’s disciplinary Committee, headed by one Muhammad Malumma, ISWAP’s Chief Judge. The ISWAP leadership has vowed to eliminate all terrorists belonging to the Shekau group if they refuse to surrender. An intelligence operative disclosed that an intercepted communication between two leaders of ISWAP indicated that a committee led by one Abu-Mosad Albarnawy, a self-proclaimed appointee of Amirul Mu’uminoon, (ISIS Caliphate Leader) had dissolved all formations and structures of Shekau’s Boko Haram in an aggressive raid in Sambisa Forest, recently. It further revealed that the fight is being coordinated by the Wali of ISWAP, one Muhammad Dawud, who is also known as Abu Hafsat, with four other ISWAP Fiye (Service Chiefs), and Khalids, (Commanding Officers) from Lake Chad, Timbuktu and Marte. According to the operative, the ISWAP Service Chiefs and its Commanding Officers are all under the supervision of Abu-Mosad Albarnawy, who is coordinating the mission

. Multiple sources reported that Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau had died or mortally wounded in a confrontation with ISWAP fighters, a group that separated from Shekau’s Boko Haram in 2016. The Nigerian military has not offiong confirmed the reports but said it is investigating.

The Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) under the new leadership of Abu-Musad Albarnawy has taken over all territories under the control of late Abubakar Shekau in a major revenge onslaught against the former Boko Haram leader. Sources knowledgeable about the terrorists’ groups said the ISWAP faction has arrested 30 top commanders loyal to the late Boko Haram leader.

Abdul Bash, Commander Parisu
Abu Mujaheed, Commander of Sabil Huda
Mala Ali, Commander of Farisu
Amir Hassana, Commander Garin Dambe
Malam Bako, Commander Hizba
Amir Halid, Commander Njimiya Falluja, Commander Garin Mala Abu- Fatima, Commander, Gwashke Kaka BK, Commander Garin Abu Asmau. Alai Bukar, Commander Mina Ngawri Abu-Ubaida, Commander Jungle Gabra in Pulka
Amir Abdulrahman, Commander, Gobara
Abu Muhammad, Commander
Alava Ali Shara, Commander Yuwe Hanyan Bama Amir Huzayfa, Commander Yuwe Hanyan Welcome Abubakar Sarki, Commander Yuwe Hanyan Konduga Ibn Abbas, Commander Barin Bulla Yaga Ali Ngule, Commander Madara Mountain Ummati Mai Shayi, Commander Madara Mountain
Mala Musa Abuja, the Chief Bomb Maker
Mallam Bana Sharra, Chief Judge to Shekau faction, located at Garin Mala Hassan Baba Dr. Konduga, Chief Medical Doctor Alava Road,
Ma’azu Dan Lokodisa, the Chief Prison Officer
Alai Abba, the Caretaker of Women, children
Mala Musa, Chief Mechanic Officer, located at Parisu
Abu Zaid, Chief Bombmaker, located at Parisu
Abu Aisha Special Clearance operations Unit,
Fairs Amir Okasha, Bomb Timer, Farisu and Amir Awana Among other terrorists.

It was gathered that following the death of Shekau, ISWAP fighters in over 30 gun trucks and dozens of motorcycles stormed Sambisa forest forcing the Boko Haram Commanders loyal to Shekau to surrender or face instant execution. The source added that Abu-Musad Albarnawy, who had gone underground for a while now, was reportedly re-appointed as the new leader of ISWAP in the Northeast war theatre by the ISIS leadership which has become the major source of strength for the insurgents. The source further said ISWAP stormed Shekau’s camp’s general area “following massive protests against his leadership style after he had eliminated some top Boko Haram Commanders including Abu-Fatima, his Chief of Staff who doubled as the Operation Commander within the past one month”.

ISWAP then concluded that with all the mistakes, Shekau was derailing against the main cause they had charted for themselves and that it was time for him to be taken out by force of arms. Meanwhile, Albarnawi, who claimed he had received directives from the ISIS, maintained that he had been designated by the Amir al Muminin (the IS Caliph) to take over and coordinate all activities of the insurgents under one umbrella for easy movement of funds, weapons, and materials. “The ISWAP and Boko Haram have been engaged in several infighting for superiority among factions resulting in the elimination of dozens of Boko Haram fighters from both sides within the past five years”.

The Centre which is located at the Mambilla Barracks, Asokoro Discrict, Abuja, is designed to offer services that will address mental, emotional, psychological needs of the military personnel, their dependents and the general public.

The Wellness Centre is a brain child and initiative of the National President NAOWA (wife of the Chief of Army Staff) Mrs Fati Attahiru, to addres cases of mental health, substance abuse and rehabilitation of victims of all kinds of abuses within and outside the barracks.

Rt Hon Gbajabiamila, while commending the initiative of the wife of the Chief of Army Staff, described the project as a landmark achievement which would provide opportunity to address the mental and psychological needs of all military personnel, especially those who have, for long, been deployed in the battle field, appreciating their sacrifice for the peace and security of the nation.
