misconceptions! Parents of
multiples have probably not
given a great deal of thought to
their childrens' fingerprint
patterns, but the general public
has spent a lot of time
wondering about this topic.
So, do identical twins have
identical fingerprints? The basic
answer is NO. Identical -- or
monozygotic -- twins form when
a single fertilized egg splits in
two after conception. Because
they form from a single zygote,
the two individuals will have the
same genetic makeup. Their DNA
is virtually indistinguishable.
However, fingerprints are not an
entirely genetic characteristic.
Scientists love to use this topic as
an example of the old "nature vs.
nurture" debate. Fingerprinting,
along with other physical
characteristics, is an example of
a phenotype -- meaning that it is
determined by the interaction of
an indivdual's genes and the
developmental environment in
the uterus.
The ultimate shape of
fingerprints are believed to be
influenced by environmental
factors during pregnancy, like
nutrition, blood pressure,
position in the womb and the
growth rate of the fingers at the
end of the first trimester. Thus,
you will find similar patterns of
whorls and ridges in the
fingerprints of identical twins.
But there will also be differences
-- just as there are differences
between the fingers on any
individual's hands.

it was a gory night yesterday in the university of calabar hostel community(Malabor) when a law student was shot dead by suspected cultist inside the hostel at around 9.00p.m. The fellow student were angered by the insecurity on campus took to a demonstration in which some school valuables were destroyed. Their anger was mostly fuelled up to an existing disagreement between the students and the management. The students school fees was recently increased by N10,000 by the authorities which didn't go down well. Even with this increased, the Powerplant which supplies electricity to the hostels is now put off by 9.00p.m instead of the usual 11.00p.m, making it difficult for the students to read. The slaughter of the law student took place immediately the light was put off. Properties damaged include several burnt vehicles, destruction of the student Database portal, vandalization of the Vice chancellors office etc. Next week is their long anticipated students week and Am wondering if it will hold. This is this the second student that has been killed inside the school in less than two months,

The university of uyo released it's 2nd admission last week, and just like storm, the supplementary list was released today, monday 17may. For those that applied, make haste to check if you are among the lucky jambites. Good luck[color=Black][/color]

Finally, the long awaited Uniuyo admission list is out. If you made Uniuyo your first choice and took the aptitude test wit a score of 180 or above, then it's likely your name will be out. For those that may fail(especially competitive and professional courses) to have the admission but had a score above 180, then be on the alert for second list and don't fail to apply for supplementary admission. I had my admission into pharmacy thro supplementary without runs so be swift in taking your decisions.
