I'd really like you to check out The boy who harnessed the wind . Though its not Nollywood, i just wanna know your inputs about the flick. It's actually a literary adaptation of the book titled The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by Bryan Mealer and William Kamkwamba directed & written(both debut) by our very own Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Finally got to watching this and I must commend you for recommending it to me and I in turn recommend it to the house. It's not a ground breaking cinematic endeavour, but it's story is expository and intriguing (there were moments I got Goosebumps), the cast did a reasonable job and I would like to see more efforts from Chiwetel because he did a good job on this one.

The sorry state of African leadership and mentality is really appalling, many of our problems have really simple solutions but so few are willing to try, and if you do attempt, the mountain of discouragements surrounding you will be so overwhelming you'll feel you have no other choice than to give up. Thank God the boy didn't, he should be an inspiration, but sadly most of us draw inspiration from the wrong materials.

9/10

I saw this movie this morning the silence of the lambs

I rate it 8/10 although the movie failed to horrify me, it delivered on everything else. If you are looking for a good classic horror/mystery movie to pass time with please do check it out.
I change my review about this movie. It's a 10/10 for me now, the movie gets better with each rewatch and my understanding of it grows deeper.

It don't think its marketing related problem that made half of a yellow sun flop, I think the problem was that the flick wasn't like the book. Its common knowledge that the transition from page to screen of some of our beloved stories/novels tend to have some of their primary appeal lost in translation.

Filmmakers are faced with the herculean task of slicing and dicing a books’ broadest scopes to fit into a 2-hour movie structure, this is were writers/filmmakers who aren't well grounded in the art, hit the rocks. But seriously, the best approach to this would be to split the movie into sequels so as to encompass/capture the whole novel.

The director, Bandele acknowledged that in his journey to the heart of Adichie’s over-450 page text he had to look for ways to maintain a compelling, credible and coherent story on screen, thus sacrifices were made and scenes slashed mercilessly due to budget and timing limitations, and further more, he had to tell a linear story from the perspective of just one major character. A necessary approach it was, but it didn't yield the maximum desired results.
Your points are solid and your insights are well laid out, so I guess we can say the fault lies with director then. If he found it difficult to adapt the story why not hire a professional screen writer? One who has had success adapting novels to screenplays instead of taking the mantle and doing a bad job. I believe at the hands of a seasoned screenwriter the adaptation would have fared better.

Thanks for this recommendation, I will read the book first before I watch the movie. I don't like watching a movie adaptation of a book before reading the book. I will let you know what I think when I'm done.

Everything by Ayo Makun aka AY, always seems forced, that's why I omitted 30 days in Atlanta & wedding party 2.
Half of a yellow sun wasn't good... really?? that flick was actually one of my top Nollywood flicks. It stared some of the good acts in Hollywood & Nollywood. Actors & Actress like:
Thandie Newton of 2012
Chiwetel Ejiofor of The boy who harnessed the wind, 2012 etc
John Boyega of Pacific Rim 2
Onyeka Onwenu
Genevieve Nnaji
Wale Ojo
O.C. Ukeje etc.
Maybe those saying it wasn't good were those who read the novel. Trust me, if you haven't read the novel, you'd sure enjoy the flick.
As for Lionheart, if you ain't Igbo, just steer clear of it, even the subtitle wouldn't make you enjoy it. You might understand it, but you wouldn't enjoy it.
Well half of a yellow sun didn't do very well both with the critics and at the box office... The movie just packed stars and failed to deliver apparently, maybe it has to do with poor marketing but a movie of that Calibre was expected to shake grounds and it didn't.

As for lion heart I'm going to try it. Nigerian producers need to up their game if they expect Nigerians to develop a positive cinema attitude towards their films. I would really like our industry to get better and thrive, my whole life might as well depend on it.

Well of recent, Nollywood movies are really improving at least when compared to where they were few years back. Though, it's gonna take a lot of time to get to the Bollywood standard, talk more of the Hollywood standard, but I believe we'll get there eventually. You know, piracy is a big cog in its wheel of progress & that's what scares Producers and investors away. I've seen quite a number of 'em & i must confess, they weren't so great & were cliché, but I was quite impressed at the level of creativity & work put into them. Flicks like:
Half of the yellow sun(Don't really know if its Hollywood or Nollywood)
Lion heart
Wedding party 1
Royal hibiscus hotel
Isoken
10 days in sun city
House husband
Diary of a pregnant woman
Ego....
Though most of these flicks, I saw 'em either by chance or mistake but am glad I did. The only Nollywood flick i download with my mb are its comedies, they rarely make it to the cinemas though, but IMO, they are the best genre in the entire industry.
Saw the two bolded, was really impressed by the effort. But sometimes the jokes seemed forced and the movies lacked a solid story.

I read that half of a yellow sun wasn't good, too bad for chimamanda's novel...

Hmmm... This was the same way you guys warned me NOT to see Wonder Woman back then...

I should probably listen this time
Don't pay attention to those Marvel fanatics, those guys wouldn't rate a good movie well if it wasn't from Marvel.

The dark Knight trilogy are truly epic super hero movies. They are regarded as the best super hero movies of all time by most people. And by the way there is nothing wrong with Wonder woman, it was a solid movie in it's own right.

PS. I'm not a DC fan, just stating the facts. So none of your marvel dildos should come for me.

Look at some cretinous dumbfvks on that comment box saying she has dated or currently dating a yahoo boy all because she spoke against fraud.

Nigerians are just confused. You speak against fraud, they'll attack you just like they are doing to that lady and like they did to Ruggedman. You support it, they'll still attack you.

The truth remains, that most Nigerian youth are hardworking, but don't want to channel their hardworks into something positive.

If you hear or read the kind of maths, brain, workings, methods and intelligent tactics these so called yahoo boys use in scamming people, you'll be marveled and dumbstrucked enough to wonder why they can't just channel the energy and ideas into something positive.

A closer look on that comment section, you'll see a punctuated and demented rabbit in human form busy ranting "Free Naira Marley".
I agree with you points except the maths and brain works thing. Only gullible naive love starved women and men fall for these guys. I have seen really dumb guys make money from this shit.

It's nothing special, all they do is keep communicating with their "clients" until they gain their trust and ask them to help them out with a financial situation.

These guys aren't hardworking or intelligent, don't paint them so. All they do all day long is sit in front of a computer or lie down with their phones and chat with foreigners. That's what goes on until they come in contact with one gullible enough to fall for their theatrics and give them their money then boom it's party and spending all through till the money is gone and then they are back to base hammering their keyboards looking for that next meal ticket.

are you planning on downloading nollywood movies?
I hope to undecided I mean there has to be some that are worth the while. I like to believe we are not doing bad all round.

For example Genevieve's Lion Heart got acquired by Netflix, I know it can be argued that it was done to gain Nigerian market share and not necessarily because it was a great movie but that shows some promise for our movie industry.

I would like to see folks here speak good about a Nigerian movie. The recent ones tho not the classics.
TV/MoviesRe: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by xxix: 8:17pm On May 22, 2019
Guys what about Nollywood movies? Even the recent ones that make it to the cinemas, are there really none worth your attention?
TV/MoviesRe: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by xxix: 8:14pm On May 22, 2019
Ignorance really is a bliss.

I was perfectly okay when I didn't invest so much emotional attachment to this show and it's characters, when I just watched to see beautiful girls get naked and flash their private parts as if no one was looking. When I saw Dany as nothing but an object of gratification, when I didn't pay much attention to the dialogue and story, when I just wanted to be entertained!

I wish I could be like the people who are okay with how this show ended, who say it's just a show... Don't read too much meaning to the lore, theories, speculations, characters, plot. You know just watch because it's got good visuals and throw everything else out the window.

I wish I was ignorant, I wouldn't be so disappointed and angry right now.

Now I get it! I finally got it!

D & .D has once again proven their genius, these men deserve every accolade they have ever gotten. Imagine the brilliance! The wisdom and level of wits these men possess.

No one could have ever seen this coming, I repeat no one. I had to laugh and throw my fist in the air when I figured it out. The backlash, the petitions... It was all for nothing. I can't believe the fans never saw it; being a community that prides itself with paying attention to details and all.

What am I blabbing about? The last episode of course!

When all that craziness happened, I thought to myself (this can't be! Our queen can't do such!) I'm not here to defend her actions but to point out an obvious misunderstanding.

It wasn't Dany, it wasn't her. Remember how we don't see her again after the bell tolled and she took off with drogon and torched the city. Well apparently, the moment drogon ascended into the sky, our beloved queen lost her balance and fell off the dragon's back.

All that torching was the sole handwork of drogon, Dany had no hand in it. There is even the possibility that she might have hit her head during the fall and therefore died off screen but that's a theory.

Now everyone has labeled her a mad queen, calling her out for committing mass murder and so forth. I on the hand would like to take this opportunity to clear the air concerning these allegations and defend our queen. It is true the city burned due to her arrival, but it wasn't her intention, her intentions were good; it was that beast! The winged shadow... Acting out of fury for loosing both his brothers in this strange land, totally neglecting the feelings of it's mother and acting out of sentiment and pure rage.

And in case you want to see prove. Here it is.

The companion books will make you respect GRRM more.

The Hedge Knight, Dunk and Egg, A Sworn Sword etc.

There is also A World of Ice and Fire which is like a compendium of all things Westeros and beyond.

The man's brain is wonderful. No wonder the books take so long. A lot of effort is put into making them.

I recently learnt that it does not end at The Winds of Winter. There is A dream of Spring to follow that one.
You know your GRRM very well. I feel it's these side projects that has hindered the completion of the main story. I hope he finishes the books so we won't be left with this D&.D ending.

Damn! It feels good to be back. Honestly, not only did i enjoy the NASA discussions, i was also enlightening, irrespective of some of the fallacies spilt here. A big thumbs up to the primary participants Koicereloaded & xxix but guys seriously, there was no point hurling insults at each other, we are all educated folks for fvck sakes (pardon my language) so let's behave as thus. Instead of us allowing matters here to drift/descend into a chaotic outburst, why not agree to disagree on the said topic, that way, there will neither be a Victor nor vanquished and by that, one's pride(for those who have one) is intact & there wouldn't be a need for the "L".

To be frank, The 1969 moon landing is one topic that fascinates me, and yet keeps me in a hugger-mugger state, considering its America. That's why i prefer to sit on the fence as both sides(real or hoax) presents a somewhat reasonable argument.
I'm glad you learnt something, that was after all my intention. But that other guy insulted me for no just reason, I let it slide and he did it again. I only retaliated so he won't go on thinking he has Monopoly on internet brawls. I am satisfied that when it came time to measure d!cks he doubled his pants and crawled back to his cave.
