Please IPOB is a totally separate topic.

And it is a very emotive topic.

Can we talk about Igbo history without it turning into IPOB vs Nigeria.

kettykings:

Politics / Re: Igbos At War by YakubuAugust: 7:10pm On Jul 09, 2020
Please can we not derail the topic and start talking about IPOB

Thanks.

superlightning:

They still do. The only challenge is that they are not United.

1. Most Military and Police personnel of Igbo stock comes mainly from Abia state

2. IPOB a seperatist group despite their ragtag approach to secession, still instil fear in the mind of the FG. Even recently, Garba Shehu still attributed the international setbacks Nigeria had was due to IPOB propaganda against them.

They are doing very well sharing the culture with the world.

I wish Abia people still have the same fight in them as their predecessors had to fight for good governance in their state.

That is incorrect.

The average Spanish speaker will understand 75% of Portuguese

They are largely mutually intelligible. They are different languages primarily because they are two different nations.
bigfrancis21:

Both languages are two separate or standalone languages of each other. From writing to pronunciation, they are different but they have a common origin - Latin. They are not dialects of each other but separate languages of their own. A Spanish person will never understand French, spoken or written, no matter how simple the spoken French is and vice versa. An Italian person will also not understand Portuguese and vice versa.
Culture / Re: Ikwerre, Igbo And The Igboid Language Family. by YakubuAugust: 10:31am On Jul 06, 2020
You could argue the only reason they are considered languages and not dialects is because they are separate states.

chrisxxx:

Spanish and Portuguese sound similar. Is Spanish Portuguese or Portuguese Spanish.

Thats great.

The more people we educate on Nigerian history the better.

OdumegwuOjukwu:

Yes I did. I'm actually doing some research in that area. So it did help.

And btw I have copied it to my forum, I hope you don't mind.

Politics / Re: What Is An Igboid Language? Is Ikwerre The Same Language As Igbo? by YakubuAugust: 9:51am On Jul 06, 2020
Isnt the whole reason they deny Igbos is because of political jostling?

Because they know Nigeria is ant-Igbo and want none of the discimination.

Collyweed:

Ethnicity is a social concept. It’s not by DNA. There are descendants of very recent Igala and even Ijaw immigrants in the SE who now identify as Igbo. In some parts of Abia, Efik names are not uncommon but today they all identify as Igbo.

Obviously, language is an important aspect of what makes you an Igbo person. However, I believe that you have to at least self identify as Igbo to be Igbo.

If you don’t identify as Igbo (not emergency identification like some potential presidential candidates oh) then you obviously not Igbo. Our culture doesn’t allow us to tell another man what to call himself.
