Career / How Did You Produce Structural Drawing by yaliyu963(m): 7:26am On Jun 13, 2020
HOW DID YOU PRODUCE YOUR STRUCTURAL DRAWING?

In this evolving technological era, structural loadings, analysis and design are done using various softwares which are designed with underlying principles of structural Engineering. The choice of any software package adopted by the structural engineer depends on reliability and accuracy of the software as confirmed by the Engineer. It is needed to save time while other structural criteria (like safety, economy etc) are maintained.

I still found it comfortable in most of my structural designs to go conventional way in the form of semi- manual approach depending on the urgency of the work. I have my Excel spreadsheets where I can easily and safely do my structural loadings, analysis and design. Atimes in a bit complex structural element, I employ the service of Risa 3D for Loading Analysis while I design with my Excel spreadsheets. Then, I do the drafting with Auto Cad 2D / Auto Cad structural detailer. This is mostly faster for me than using other softwares in building design. It gave me the flexibility of communicating with my structural elements and identifying critical areas.

This is mostly my method of doing building design. How do you do your structural design and what advantage can you tell us about your choice? Let's learn from each other.

Science/Technology / Benefit Of Calculating Values Of "X" In School by yaliyu963(m): 12:22am On Jan 22, 2020
The BENEFIT OF CALCULATING THE VALUE OF "X" IN SCHOOL

On several occasions, people trying to encourage innovation and creativity speak ill about mathematics and its usefulness. Funny enough that some people even declared it useless and worthless in academic upbringing. Next time at my leisure time, i will explore more about benefit of mathematics to students and humanity generally.

Well we can't sway from the fact that most Nigerian school products are unproductive and unemployable. The problem which may be nailed to the educational system , the attitude of the students and many more.

What is the benefit of calculating the value of 'X'?
In secondary school, all science students passed through a subject called physics and in it, there is a topic named "moment" or "equilibrium of forces". If you remember vividly, there are alot of " X" and "Y" being calculated. Do you remember? This topic metamorphosed into bending moment and shear forces being calculated by structural Engineers which are used for establishing structural stability and sustaining its life for years

The bridges, elevated structures, and other structural elements out there are designed on the value of "X". They stand on the output of the value of "X" being calculated. The Softwares such as prota, Orion, Stadpro, Tekla, Risa 3D etc which assist engineers in producing structural elements are programmed on the values of "X" and "Y" derived and established by Engineers and Mathematicians. Is it beneficial or not?

The point we are trying to establish here is that, while counseling someone to be creative and innovative, you have to be exposed and knowledgeable enough to give proper guidance so as not to do more harm than good. We should not rule out the importance of class theories because it is 85% the bedrock of modern civilization and development.
Let us encourage our upcoming generation on need for academic excellence and imbibe the spirit of curiosity on them to always ask the areas at which the classroom theories are being applied so that they can find a competent mentor that can give them a proper career guide.

Above all, calculating the value of "X" is creativity and innovation on its own, look deep into it and you will be excited.

Stop demoralizing our upcoming generation with your limitation to see the beauty of theory.

You have contrary opinion?, let's discuss✌

Politics / Multi Billion Project In Kano State by yaliyu963(m): 8:46am On Aug 18, 2019
The first phase of the Kano Economic City (KEC) project has reached 85 per cent completion, making the December, 2019, deadline for construction work to be completed realistic, Daily Trust reports.

Conceived about 12 years ago by the administration of a former Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekaru, and estimated to gulp about $461m, the project faced a major setback when the parties involved could not reach a balance in the financial agreement involved.

KEC is strategically located along the Zaria-Maiduguri Road, just a 15-minute drive from Kano Town.
Under a Puplic-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement, the KEC project was expected to be implemented in three phases spanning five to seven years under a joint venture partnership between the Kano State Government and a foremost indigenous real estate and infrastructure development company, Brains and Hammers Limited. Upon completion, the project will be developed under a Build, Operate, Own and Transfer (BOOT) arrangement.
The city was designed on a 117.2-hectare to provide over 80,000 Square Metres (sqm) of mega wholesale and retail warehouses and 10,000 shops and stalls targeted at harnessing product value-chain opportunities, as well as to improve economic growth.

KEC is designed to accommodate a World Trade Centre (WTC), a wholesale and retail market comprising state-of-the-art warehousing facilities totalling over 80,000sqm and over 10,000 wholesale and retail shops, an education institute, light factories/industries, a conference centre, banks, an office complex, a health center, police station, fire station, international coach station, a five-star hotel, among other modern facilities.
The developer, Brains and Hammers Limited, said the central components of KEC included, but was not limited to trailer and passenger motor parks, amusement park and petrol stations.

However, the project was said to have been abandoned for some years until the present Kano State Government under Gov. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje resolved to complete it under its bid to reassert the state as one of the leading economic centres in the country.

Gov. Ganduje made a commitment to see that the project comes to reality. After mobilising the co-partners to site, the governor recently visited the Phase 1 site of KEC; which when completed will house mega GSM and pharmaceutical markets.
He said, “My administration is particularly interested and determined to make a global city in Kano that can compete with other business cities in the world in order to have full and better economic potentialities and opportunities for the benefit of all.”

The Head of Design and Project Coordinator of Brains and Hammers, Arch. Muhydeen Afolabi, said his company would secure hybrid funding for the project, coordinate technical development and construction of the market, market various products, as well as services of KEC and discuss off-taker financing models with prospective financiers.

Arch. Afolabi added that the Kano State Government on the other hand, would provide land as equity contribution to the project, policy formulation and enforcement in respect to trade and commerce which would accelerate and support occupation of KEC.

Afolabi further revealed that the state government would lead the sensitisation of traditional rulers and the general public, as well as joint facility management of the market complex for a period of 25 years with an option of a renewal.
He said, “We have gone far on it, and as you are aware, the Kano State governor was here some time ago and he saw how far we have gone. The December deadline is realistic as all construction works have reached 85 per cent.”
Afolabi further said KEC had been designed to have 10,000 shops in Phase 1, 38 world class warehouses, 280-trailer capacity parking space, among other services needed in a world standard market, adding that the project also had provision for an agricultural hub that would house grains, a space for large and small scale industries, a leather processing unit, a meat unit and other commodities, with an up-to-date ICT centre, a hospital and offices for regulatory and security agencies.

What's the estimate of materials needed for
1. Lintel
2. Decking of the attached plan
It consist of 3flats on each floor ( one 3bedroom and parlor apartment, two 2bedroom apartment)

in the name of cutting cost, stop endangering lives of others. you dont quantify material cost for decking with architectural plan. you do that with the structural drawing, designed and detailed by a structural Engineer.

please, stop endangering lives.

if you dont have structural drawing for this, send the soft copy to jalyhconstrut@gmail.com so that my boys can design it for you free with bending schedule.

Gurus in the house, I have a question that has been bugging my mind for a while now.
Sirs/mas, if I'm going to do a DPC ( pour concrete on a DPM), why then should I bother myself with all the partitions during the excavation of the foundation? Why not just get the external diameter, and make some partitions and leave the rest? For instance, instead of digging toilet, ante room, parlour dining, kitchen, store, all the rooms, etc. Why not just a selected few out of all those and then, do the full partitioning after the DPC has been done. I hope I'm understood. Thanks.

I advised people should always engage the service of a professional. it might cost much but save much at the long run.
the need for professional is what most people have been asking here. in structural Engineering, Foundation is something you dont joke with.

on your question, while it is more safer and stable you include all the internal partitions, you can omit some. You can omit the non-load bearing partition during the foundation block work. But make sure the wall areas are restricted to 6m x 6m or else to have a well compacted foundation as well as to reduce settlement.

after compaction, you can lose the soil beneath the omitted partitions to reduce its stress on the DPC

Properties / Let's Talk About Land Measurement And Sizes In Nigeria by yaliyu963(m): 12:15am On Jan 18, 2019
LAND MEASUREMENT AND SIZES IN NIGERIA

As a human, one of our basic requirement is shelter and out of which is a home. We all dream to have a house of our own. Don't you love to have a house?

Of course you love to. As such, you will need a land to build one. Some people may be privileged to inherit free land from their family while some need to buy one. As a potential land buyer, the first thing is to understand the system of land measurement in Nigeria to avoid unnecessary under turn. Before talking about land measurement, let us understand the property development term "plot" which determine land sizes in Nigeria.

What is a plot of land? If you have the answer to this question, congratulation for being among those that have access to this information before now.
According to dictionary definition, a plot is a piece of land or an area used for the purpose of building or farming. It is an arbitrary term used by property developers, land dealers and government to describe land division in a particular area or region.
In Nigeria, the size of a plot of land varies depending on the State but according to Nigeria's land divisions, the appropriate plot for building a house is 50ft x 100ft (1.e 50 feet breadth by 100feet length. It is rectangular area with shortest side of 50feet and longer side of 100feet). But in places such as Lagos, a plot of land is 60ft x 120ft. So it is appropriate for land buyers to ask the dealer first, what is the size of your plot before proceeding into business.

Land Measurement in Nigeria
Land is measured in Hectares, Acres, Meters and feet in Nigeria.

Acre
An acre is a unit of land which is equal in area to 43,560 square feet or 4,046 square meter. It is the standard of measurement majorly used by land sellers. For a plot of 50ft x 100ft, there are 8.7 plots of land. Let's say eight and half plots.

Hectare (ha)
A hectare is a land measuring 328ft x 328ft or 100m x 100m) with an area of 107,584 square feet or 10,000 square metre. It is about two and half plots of land.

With your tape on your hand, you can measure along with land agent or dealer.

You can employ the service of an expert after buying a land for land related documents.

Quality control in Construction

Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.
HENRY FORD,

Must people especially the artisans and some contractors compromise quality in construction not because the client or his representative is not available to monitor the construction progress, it is simply because they don't know what is Right. Yes, in construction industry, some artisans or contractors compromise the quality of the project because of wrong experience. Wrong experience in the sense that it was done wrong somewhere and that automatically becomes his standard of measurement. Safety and Stability is very Paramount in construction and need to be given utmost care.

The artisans should be educated properly on construction quality measures and standards while contractors should always ensure to work with the best hands during project execution.

Give the best quality in construction process to save lives and Money.

March 24, 2018
Press Statement
Of SaharaReporters’ Lies, Kogi Governor And
Police Desperation To Kill Me
I ordinarily want to ignore the antics of the Kogi
State governor, Yahaya Bello and the Nigeria
Police, which has openly take side in the Kogi
political crisis, save for the latest but
coordinated lies in the garb of exclusive news by
the notorious online blackmailer –
SaharaReporters.
For the records, I did not flee Nigeria and have
no reason to flee my country leaving behind my
family as the online paper wants Nigerians to
believe. My attention was drawn to their lies this
night, hence this public statement, lest the
unsuspecting members of the public and my
supporters believe the lies by Omoyele Sowore
as directed by his new paymasters.
The lies in the SaharaReporters’ so-called news
report is nothing but to cause serious disharmony
in the Senate and among united majority
Senators, who are resolute in defending
democracy and its institutions no matter whose
ox is gored.
For the avoidance of doubt, I have not received
any court summon either in person or by proxy in
my house or office for me to appear on March 28
as being insinuated by the Police regarding the
latest allegation against me.
Last Monday’s stage-managed parade of crime
suspects in Lokoja by the Force Public Relations
Officer, Mr Jimoh Moshood, where a suspect was
tutored to implicate me is just a continuation and
expansion of the Police attempt to have me
arrested at all cost and ultimately kill me.
The public will recall that on Thursday, March 1,
2018 when the Federal Government arraigned me
for allegedly given “false information” to the
Police in a case of failed assassination plot
against me, at the FCT High Court in Maitama,
Abuja, SARS operatives from Kogi State Police
Command laid siege on the court premises in
order to prevent me from enjoying my bail with
the intention to kidnap me to Lokoja to be
poisoned, although it turned out to be another
failed attempt on my life.
It is worrisome that the Police Headquarters has
got itself entangled in the Kogi political crisis
and has taken side. It is however bizarre and
unprecedented that the FPRO, Mr. Moshood, will
have to travel to Lokoja last Monday in order to
act a script written by Governor Bello. A
discerning mind will ask that, how many times
has Mr. Moshood travel to Sokoto, Enugu or
Lagos to parade suspects on behalf of a Police
Commissioner?
It has become expedient for me to issue this
statement to the public and to let you know that
I have taken the matter up with the international
community in order to report this undue
intimidation and harassment.
Let me reiterate here for the umpteen times that
no amount of intimidation, blackmail, arrests or
threats will stop me from championing the cause
of the masses.
