Politics › Re: Nigeria Is Now The Poverty Capital Of The World- Theresa May British PM by yazach: 2:39pm On Aug 28, 2018 |
AllTheWayUp: Theresa May, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, says Nigeria is the home of the highest number of poor people in the world.
Speaking in Cape Town, South Africa, on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said Africa is home to a majority of the world’s fragile states, and a quarter of the world’s displaced people.
She added that Africa has the highest number of poor people in the world, stating that 87 million Nigerians were living below the poverty line of $1 and 90 cents per day.
“Much of Nigeria is thriving, with many individuals enjoying the fruits of a resurgent economy, yet 87 million Nigerians live below $1 and 90 cents a day, making it home to more very poor people than any other nation in the world,” she said.
May said achieving the inclusive growth is a challenge across the world, adding that Africa needs to create 50,000 new jobs per day to keep employment rate at its current levels till 2035.
The prime minister said she wants the UK to become the biggest G-7 investor in Africa by 2022, building around shared prosperity and shared security.
“I am unashamed about the need to ensure that our aid program works for the UK,” May said, adding that a healthy African economy is good news for the UK.
“Today I am committing that our development spending will not only combat extreme poverty, but at the same time tackle global challenges and support our own national interest.”
“It is in the world’s interest to see that those jobs are created, to tackle the causes and symptoms of extremism and instability, to deal with migration flows and to encourage clean growth,” she added.
The 61-year-old said the UK is planning to sign a deal with Kenya to ensure the repatriation of stolen Kenyan funds stuck in the UK.
The UK has one of the biggest overseas aid programme in the world, expending $18 billion on aid overseas in 2017 alone.
Theresa May will be visiting Nigeria later this week.

Politics › Re: A Lifeless President And A Lifeless Economy. by yazach: 8:37am On Aug 28, 2018 |
desmond2pk: As a concerned citizen, I was shocked when I read yesterday what president trump called our president " a lifeless " person. A lot has been said since yesterday and a rejoinder has been released by the government. But there is more to it. Before 2015, I made a little profit in my business, which made me to get a shop in the ever business legali ayorinde, Victoria island, the business capital of Lagos and Nigeria as a whole. I started January 2015, a few months before the presidential election. Business was good. I had a lot Of clients and customers from banks and companies. As a small business, we were paying our monthly service charge of N35,000 and paying a sale's rep and taking care of others who were not on salary. After the election, suddenly, things started falling apart. The bank customers stopped coming. Other companies stopped coming. I couldn't pay my staff. It became hard to pay monthly service charge. As the year progressed, business decreased. A lot of people in the plaza started moving out. I was hanging on. But by the end of the year, I couldn't renew my rent. I didn't want to gamble it. I closed business in Victoria island. This is 2018. This month, I had to print a six months statement of my account to submit to an embassy. I am not trying to run away though, a lot of people I know, who were doing well have relocated either to Canada or they went to U.S. with their families and never returned. But What I noticed in my bank statement increased my distress. In 6 months, I had a credit of more than 17 million naira from my business. At the same time, a debit of 17 million naira plus. Now, the difference between my opening balance closing balance is 40,000 naira, despite the 17 million naira that came in and went out. We have 4 more months to the end of the year. Going by what happened the last 6 months, I will likely make a profit of about 25,000 after about 10 'million naira credits and debits in my account. Mind you, I stay in a 3 bedroom apartment and I have a family of 4, with 3 extended family members living with me. And school fees is by the corner. Now, it made it think about our lifeless president. I remember the noise and hype the U.S. trip generated. We didn't hear of any business our president brought home from United States of America. But we heard about the whopping amount which senate did Not approve that was paid to the American government. Nigeria economy is lifeless. As lifeless as our president. Lagos is no longer what it used to be. A lot of businesses have closed and a lot is closing. Just drive around town by business hours. Everywhere seems like we are on holiday. The ever busy roads are now dried. No more company branded vehicles like it used to be. Small businesses have been killed. The middle class have been chased away. The only thing going on is politics and the fight therein. You no finish am A LIFELESS OP ALSO

Politics › Re: "TRUMP" The World Does Not Want Buhari Back, Says APC Presidential Aspirant by yazach: 7:31am On Aug 28, 2018 |
ararumeteam: I Told You So, The World Does Not Want Buhari Back, Says APC Presidential Aspirant “I told you so. About ten days ago, I revealed to our great party, the APC, and fellow Nigerians that the world is against President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term bid," Ogbonnia stated.
SKC Ogbonnia, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described the report in which President Donald Trump described President Muhammadu Buhari as “lifeless” as evident of the world’s supposed rejection of his decision to seek reelection.
He made his position known in a statement on Monday, noting that it gave credence to his earlier position that “the world is against President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term bid”.
According to Ogbonnia, the rejection of the international community is premised on “Buhari’s failing health, lack of clear vision, lack of intellectual capacity, an apparent pattern of torpor, nepotism, wanton killings, disregard for the rule of law, and a growing sense of disunity and uncertainty in the land, among many failings”.
A report by Financial Times had stated that “The first meeting, with Nigeria’s ailing 75-year-old Muhammadu Buhari in April ended with the US president telling aides he never wanted to meet someone so lifeless again, according to three people familiar with the matter”.
Ogbonnia stated that his “sources within the White House confided that Trump believes that Africa has the potential to be fully independent”.
The statement read: “I told you so. About ten days ago, I revealed to our great party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), and fellow Nigerians that the world is against President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term bid. I asserted that the opposition is coming from influential leaders within our major allies, including Great Britain, the United States, France, Germany, Russia, China, Canada, etc.
“I added that the emerging consensus among these nations is that President Buhari’s second term ambition lacks in cogency. They point to Buhari’s failing health, lack of clear vision, lack of intellectual capacity, an apparent pattern of torpor, nepotism, wanton killings, disregard for the rule of law, and a growing sense of disunity and uncertainty in the land, among many failings.”
Describing Trump’s alleged “lifeless” comment as “partial testimony”, he said: “my sources within the White House confided that Trump believes that Africa has the potential to be fully independent, “but the countries over there need to get their act together. They need good leaders who can get things done.
“This view is popular among the Western nations. I also gathered that some of the world leaders plan to visit or talk to Buhari soon.
“Perhaps, leadership is contingent upon the environment. What is good for America may not be good for Nigeria and vice versa. But if any relationship with the outside world is a factor in solving Nigerian problems, President Buhari has no business touching the APC nomination form.
“Further, the Financial Times does not speak for the world, quite alright, but its report is a part of the pressure from the international community that will continue to mount as the months leading to the 2019 go by. Such global campaign is expected to be more robust than what President Goodluck Jonathan faced in 2015.”

Cantonese: And then Babangida introduced the second tier foreign exchange market (SFEM) in august 1986. The naira was devalued that year by that government and it heralded the challenges of our currency. Before then one could travel to any country in the world with the naira and exchange it in any bureau de change. See, the problem of this country started during the Shagari regime and blown out of proportion by Babangida. Each time we attack Jonathan I wonder why the people of that age fail to tell the honest truth. This country was damaged by the military and not Jonathan. Babangida and Abacha put us into this mess we are presently facing. Neither Jonathan nor Buhari caused it. Our problems became compounded by the greedy politicians who are the animals that Trump talked about. Include Obasanjo Jonathan was having a good mind but he allowed useless and griddy politicians to carryout their atrocities |

HigherEd: One Jet. And a jet is just a vehicle for transportation. If getting a perspnal car isn't wrong then getting a personal plane isn't wrong.
Universities are not investments but a ministry. Oyedepo is smarter than pouring money into schools for the purpose of profit... He used 30 billion naira to build landmark. That money is capable of building 9 big factories that can generate him and his family cool cash for life. All the factories/farms in Canaanland are owned by Covenant and serves as IGR for the uni. How many real business men do you see investing in university building? Dangote? Otedola? Elumelu? Adenuga? If Oyedepo wanted to do business he could easily venture into Oil and Gas, Telecoms, Banking and Financial secor, Investment banking and not build Covenant university. And no the universities are not for profit. It takes 12 Covenant student school fees to pay the annual salary of just one professor. The school has over 120 full time professors with 7000 students. Start doing the math and maybe you would understand universities are not for profit ventures. If Oyedepo was into business even your Dangote would be a learner in terms of financial networth. But no he isn't!

You are not every man, you are just one man. That means one thing is sufficient for you to pursue. So, give it all you've got, and you will get all it contains.
I am doing only one thing in the world, and that is what He has sent me to do. I have not invested money into any form of business, yet i am blessed as i pursue my goal. Show me a man with a goal and i would show you a goal getter in the making." - Bishop Oyedepo
