Greenfusion: While you have a point, i don't totally agree, they are essential goods traders or business people, those would sustain well, salary earners are mostly hit, transportation currently has doubled, by this coming week, food and other essential products would likely double or triple, so, me that earn 100k and spend 30k on transport previously would now be spending 60k, also if i spend 20k on feeding, then it becomes 40k, the 100k salary is gone...also if u had savings of 500k, its value would be halved.....also note that while Businesses are affected like you stated, salary cannot be increased up to 200% ( or double), so, now, who would suffer most?....so business may have to lay off staffs to survive.
Cost of running business should have doubled or even tripled....so salary worker would be on the receiving end more.....I learnt water is about to increase, would you now stop drinking water or eating food?
The president wasn't wise and too hasty....alot should have been made available.
At this point our borders need to be opened if that would help reduce prices of essential products especially food, let there be over supply.
The coming weeks would be very tough, all of us writing in support of this removal and discouraging a protest would begin to feel the pain, the government needs to provide a cushion, and trust me, if this Govt doesn't get the heat they won't act. You can say that again at the last statement! |

Ofunaofu: I don't understand this news
What is NLC north and NLC south west
The last time I checked, NLC got one national body
Is APC trying to create a phantom NLC faction masquerading as NLC North and NLC South west
Is Tinubu and his minions now creating the impression that every other part of the country is against the subsidy removal except the so called North and South west
Are we now in a government of North and South west collabo against the rest of the country
It will surely backfire
When we say that Tinubu ran the most tribal, religious and ethnic divisive campaign ever witnessed in this country, we have the facts and this is one of it Abi |

But nairaland Tinubu minions who stood on his dilapidated scrotum are the ones standing with him on this thoughtless decision Abi. They were even making jest of Ajaero that he is just shouting. When they saw the viral memo by his union to their members and other affiliate unions, they now saw they were actually serious and the music has changed |

pinkasso: Why not bring the palliatives first, even if it's brought in gradually, even with a proposed plan of removing subsidy in 2012 that included palliatives Tinubu and co. Say "lie lie", - we cannot trust this Government...now you want millions of masses to start suffering because they want to enjoy in future...Why did NNPC adjust their price , Why??, Just tell me...the product they have in storage the government have already paid subsidy for those product and even budgeted for June..brink the palliatives and prosecute the thieves then fully deregulate the upstream sector... Abi. We keep voting for heartless leaders who get worse after each administration. That has to change ffs. |

OChimex: You think everybody can afford it like you do? How can you pay someone 30k minimum wage a whole fu!..ck..ing month and expect them to buy fuel 490? If you increase the fuel price by over 100 percent, then increase their salary same way so that they can afford that. People striking are not business people, but people paid salary. How do you expect them to survive? Nigerian leaders are idiots. In the US, fuel are sold by gallons (3.4 liters a gallon) Hovers around $2.9 to $4 depending on where you live. But the lowest minimum hourly wage in America is like $14. So people can actually afford the fuel. You have said everything I want to say. Kudos! |

But it's wrong for you an elected or selected president to mount a podium and announce it without due consultation and dialogue with the stakeholders and representatives of the people you claim to be leading. Cyberterror: NLC is currently led by Joe Ajaero, an openly partisan Igbo man who is part of the Peter Obi plot to steal President Bola Tinubu's mandate and he is playing his role by destabilizing the country with planned strike even though all the major contenders in the last election including the party he is supporting, and Nigerians in general have agreed that subsidy is a scam which must go. The DSS warned against people like Ajaero who want to torment trouble and he must be arrested if he insists on the strike. What labour should be talking of now are palliatives not a reversal of the subsidy removal. Joe Ajaero is an enemy of Nigeria who must not be allowed to carry out the hatchet job he is doing for the defeated labour party. Shvt up! |

seborrhic: Oh God,this is very wrong. Already there are adjustments going on,transporters that increased their fares by 100% have in some cases reduced it to 50%. Given time, people will find other cost saving measures to take. What NLC wants to do is the stupidest thing at this time for these 2 vital reasons: prices that have increased will never go back to the pre-subsidy removal prices, even if the government reverses course. There would be scarcity of the product during the strike and even after the strike is called off and the subsidy remains. But with this present removal there would never again be scarcity because people would reduce fuel they buy or only buy if they have something important to do with fuel. There won't be hoarding because unlike when insane profits were made from hoarding, you can only make money now if you sell your fuel,so hoarding it won't make you incur losses! Please NLC should rather dialogue with the government on palliatives and maybe salary increase. Strike over a subsidy that must go one day is the most foolish decision to be taken now! The government that removed subsidy without these palliative measures in place is who you are taking serious? Infact, if nothing is done about this action, there might be no increment in salaries knowing the Tinubu I know very well. So this is the time for Labour to flex their muscles comrade. If not, this greedy government can decide not to negotiate with them again and their actions are pointing towards that direction. If they are sincere, they should reverse the subsidy removal and go into negotiations with labour for salary increments and other palliatives. Only then can they remove the subsidy. That is how things are done! First things first! |
