PrinceAdeAde: Hello All,
Thanks for the information and support. My journey ends here. Just some tips based on my wife second US birthing experience 1. You need two valid means of identifications(preferably driver's licence & international passport) to process and collect US docs(Birth certificate,US Passport). My wife licence expired before she traveled and she forgot this requirement so it was not as straightforward as her first experience. Alternatively, you can use work ID or any US resident to identify you.
2. Visa on Arrival is way cheaper and hassle free than it is made to look(the only cheaper option on the long run is if you are in atlanta and go for the baby nigerian passport). Just send a mail to oa@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng requesting for one using the format shared previously on the forum and you would be responded to early enough. in my case,I got a response the same day and please do it yourself and dont pay any processing money. You only need to pay the actual application fee to immigration which can be made on arrival($180 using card and $190 using cash though. Surprisingly,my wife mentioned they did not even look at any letter at Lagos Airport to give our baby the visa. Note that houston immigration requested to sight the actual email so you may want to keep your phone and email handy to avoid complications
Am always available on PM to assist with any further information.Good luck to all expecting mums and Dads. God Bless Hello please, can you email the application format to me. thanks. boyety28@gmail.com |

YoungMetrosG: I had my baby on the 27th of December at Baylor, Scott and White medical center, White Rock, Dallas
Costs were : Hospital - $3000 (They charge $4300 for c-sections) ...paid weeks before birth Doctor - $2500 - (He charges $3350 for c-sections) (Paid weeks before birth) Epidural - $1000 (Paid weeks before birth) NICS (neonatologists/pediatricians) - $555.70 (Paid over the phone by card after discharge) Group B strep test (Labcorp) - $94 Extra bills from hospital for baby's jaundice treatment - $427 (Paid over the phone by card after treatment) Follow up visits for baby at Irving Pediatrics - $75/visit (We went at 1 week and at 6 weeks)
Got my daughter's birth certificate the day after she was born at City Hall in Downtown Dallas. The day I had my baby, the hospital brought the birth records paperwork for me to fill out and asked me to send one of them in by post. When I saw that the address was a Dallas address, I had my husband take it there instead of posting it. I think this helped in having the birth certificate ready in only 24 hours. Even the staff there were quite surprised. Cost $23/copy
We booked an appointment for the 30th to get her passport at the regional passport office in downtown Dallas which we collected about 2 hours after we did the application. Cost $165
Left the US on Saturday, 11th February on British airways. Paid for my baby's tickets with BA miles and it cost me about 4000 miles and $88 in taxes and surcharges.
All's well that ends well. I'm willing to answer any questions anyone may have that I can help with and haven't covered here. Which did u do.. Visa or visa on arrival |

papi7: My CBP story __
We flew Delta 22nd of May, me and my L.O. The ticket was cost as F*ck but we had choice because of the stress in flying them golf countries ( Etihad, Emirates & Qatar ) airlines. We got to ATLANTA 5.25am, 41 mins ahead of schedule. FROM PLANE TO CPB- The QUEUE was moderate.
ME- Good morning CBP- Good morning
I handed over our passports to him
CBP- Where are you going this morning? ME- CHICAGO.
CBP- How long are you going to stay? ME- 4 months.
CBP- Why are you staying that long? ME- I am here on a vacation and childbirth
CBP- Oh, you going to have your baby here? Me- YesKe
CBP- So, how much cash are you traveling with? ME- $10,715 in cash and i have another $7,660 in my master card
CBP- Oh, that's over 10k, so i will have to send you over to customs to declare your cash ME- Oh, ok. How do i go about that?
CBP- I'll call someone to put you through. ME- OK, thanks.
CBP- Pls move over there and put your 4 fingers for thumbprint after that camera.
ME- Done with that...
CBP- So, it's just two of you traveling? Me- Yes.
That's all.
HE STAMPED ME IN TILL NOVEMBER.
HE CALLED A LADY OVER TO COME TAKE US TO THE CUSTOMS, HE GAVE HER MY PASSPORT AND A CUSTOM FORM, THEN RETURN MY L.O's PASSPORT TO ME.
We got to the customs, waited till my turn ( about 15 mins )
2nd CBP-
Held my passport but couldn't pronounce my name so, he was looking at the pic to ask if it was mine so i could come over to the counter, so moved closer and smiled and he said ( am sorry i couldn't pronounce your name ) then i said it's fine.
so he asked.
CBP- how much you have on you? ME- $10,715 and i have another $7,660 in my master card.
CBP- Why do you have that much? ME- I am here to for Vacation n Childbirth.
CBP- Oh, you are pregnant? ME- Yes.
CBP- How far long are you and when are you due? ME- August.
HE ASKED TO SEE THE CASH, I SHOWED HIM THE ENVELOP ABOUT TO BRING OUT THE CASH, HE SAID NEVER MIND. ( I GUESS HE JUST WANTED TO SEE THE CASH )
CBP- Ok. You have to fill this cash declaration form ( i did ) He then asked, is it your first time of filling those forms, ( i said yes )
CBP- Is your husband coming too? ME- Hopefully.
He handed my passport back and said Enjoy your stay.
NOTE--
No document were checked, not even my LO's receipts.
I wish every mama n papa on this trend good luck, Y"all shall share good news too. Nice one..pls I just sent u a mail..pls mail me back..so we can chat..thanks |

temmyo: If you procure a Nigerian BC for a child not born in Nigeria what details will be on it? Place of birth, etc? Isn't that kinda like fraudulent? Or will it still show that the child was born outside the country? Why will banks insist on such? #thinkingoutloud Is not fraudulent..it's still the US details that will b on it..they just want a certificate that has "the federal republic on Nigeria" on it.thats it. Details on d cert: place of birth, country of birth, date of birth, parents name n date of birth.. Dats it..hospital way I collect immunizations na where them give me. |

gidey: Birth centres is same as church maternity centres/ile agbebi here in Nigeria. In birth centres, there are no doctors there just midwives and if anything goes wrong, you are in a pot of soup as they would have to refer you to a teaching hospital which would end up been more expensive cos you come in as emergency that's even if you have not lost your child. Ha, it's well o..thanks for the info |

MamaOO: I understand you a bit. But your posts as still sketchy a bit in the sense that I don't know what transpired that made you take CHIP. Okay, answer these question so I can really understand your situation.. 1. When did you have the baby and was that when you collected the CHIP? 2. Have you been to the US since then? 3. Have you tried renewung the visa you used to have the baby then? 4. Did you get your visa for Childbirth or just visiting. If it was just visiting.. did you send the change of intent letter thingy? Did you declare at the POE that you are coming to have a baby when you came? 5. How much was indicated on your zero balance thing and also your receipt as the total amount you paid with cash?
No vex for all my questions abeg. I had my baby last year and had d chip, yes I declared going to have my baby, no after then I haven't gone to the states, and my visa is still valid |

If anybody wants to apply for financial aid the question should be directed to the embassy during visa application. It's alright |

olayoife: you can go with her if you want, but you might not be allowed in since you are not apply. Add a copy of your visa to her application and let her state in her application she's going with you and that you already have a visa. Give her al supporting documents. make sure what you used in obtaining your own visa tallys with hers. eg Hotel or Accommodation plans, state in extra explanation that you are footing the bills etc... this should do it and also let them know why she's going with you and what she does currently.
Thank you so much..really appreciate
Above all keep a positive mind. It's never a one way shot atimes. cheers |
