President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said with the coming on board of the Multi National Joint Task Force which has been established under the auspices of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, Nigeria and neighbouring countries are now on a better stead to defeat the Boko Haram sect. He said with the formation of what he called stronger regional coalition, the countries in the region had an increased capacity to deal effectively with the sect and other terrorist groups. A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, quoted the President as speaking while granting audience to the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Adesina, said Buhari reaffirmed his belief that the full activation and deployment of the joint task force would lead to the speedy defeat and elimination of Boko Haram. The President added that with the Command and Control Centre of the Nigerian military now in Maiduguri, Borno State, the morale of troops in the front-line states had improved significantly. “You can tell the Secretary-General that we are doing our best and our best will be good enough for the nation and the sub-region,’’ Buhari told Chambas. Against the background of upcoming elections in Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea and Burkina Faso, the President also called on the UN to assist African countries in the acquisition and use of innovative technologies to ensure more credible elections. “When citizens recognise that their votes count, it will boost their confidence in democracy and their countries’ electoral systems,” he said. Recalling that in the last general elections in Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission used smart card readers to authenticate prospective voters, President Buhari observed that while Nigeria could afford the use of such technology in its elections, other African countries may require support and assistance from the international community. Chambas commended Buhari for his strong and positive actions against terrorism. The UN envoy also welcomed the President’s successful visit to Cameroon this week and his reaffirmation of Nigeria’s commitment to the peaceful resolution of all border issues with Cameroon. http://www.punchng.com/news/were-now-better-equipped-to-battle-boko-haram-buhari/ Cc ishilove lalasticlala |
Another prominent citizen has spoken of the “mind-boggling” fraud in the oil sector. Queen Zainab Duke-Abiola, the Akasoba of Kalabari land in the Niger Delta, said she had evidence from the White House that a former Petroleum Minister stole $9.3 billion. In an exclusive interview withThe Nation, Mrs. Duke-Abiola, one of the late Chief Moshood Abiola’s wives, said: “According to the information available to us, the minister stole more than $9 billion; not Australian dollars, but US dollars.” “And what I am saying is that the money should be used to develop the Niger Delta. Use this to help the impoverished Niger Deltans,” she added. When asked how she could prove this allegation, the queen said she was in Washington DC during President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit, and that she met with White House officials who revealed the information to her. “My relationship with White House is over 30 years. Americans are very eager to make sure that the money gets back. They want Nigeria to use that money for education,” she said. Mrs. Duke-Abiola insisted that Buhari’s delegation to Washington DC was aware of the exact amount stolen by the former minister. Oshiomhole said it’s about $6 billion. Information available to me states that the minister and her associates siphoned away $9.3 billion. I’m watching the game that they’re playing. If they don’t publish the evidence, I have document to support this,” she said. The Akasoba insisted that members of the presidential delegation were focusing on the $6 billion allegedly stolen by a minister in former President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet, leaving out the remaining $3.3 billion” because some people from a section of the country are involved. Said Mrs. Duke-Abiola “If Buhari is not sure of his fact and figures, he should go back to Washington DC. If I read in the papers that they say $9 billion, I would keep quiet. But why are they saying only $6 billion?” The Akasoba, an Ijaw, advised that when the money is recovered, it should be used to develop the Niger Delta. “All I want is that this money should be used to help the less privileged, especially in the Niger Delta. Give these people fishing nets. Build some bridges for them. Clean up their rivers so they can fish once more, so they can have food on their tables once more. Build cottage industries for them. Put up little clinics as much as you can. In fact, we’re talking about $9.3 billion, so build a John Hopkins hospital. Build a UCH replica in the Niger Delta. If there’s some extra money use it to help other regions,” she said. Mrs. Duke-Abiola spoke of her shock when she received the evidence from the White House. “Some people said that much money couldn’t have been stolen”, she said, adding: “I was one of those who didn’t believe. When they gave me the document, I was shocked. I have sent it to the appropriate Niger Delta elders. So, we know that nobody is accusing anybody wrongly,” she said. Governor Adams Oshiomhole on Monday alleged that a minister, who served under the former President stole $6 billion. He quoted United States (U.S.) officials to support his claim but did not name the particular minister. Oshiohmole, told State House reporters shortly after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja: “The PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) destroyed the country. I mean from the lips of American officials; senior officials of the State Department said one minister under PDP cornered as much as $6 billion. “The man said even by Washington standard, that is earth-quaking. “So, PDP is a party that presided over the liquidation of our nation; destroyed all our institutions; converted the Armed Forces commanders to use them as if they were political thugs; convertedNTAto a party megaphone; destroyed the SSS; went after opposition as if we were rabbits to be pursued into our holes; compromised even student unions and destroyed everything that you can think of; and elevated religion to a state affair. “Under the party, Israel became a place you visit every week; they placed pastors against mallams, placed North against South, East against West – just to retain power; elevated Obas and Obis with dollars.” http://thenationonlineng.net/buharis-u-s-visit-ex-minister-others-stole-9b-not-6b/ |

President Muhammadu Buhari has surprised those who think his administration will not accord sports priority by approving funds to ensure preparations ahead of the 2015 All African Games. The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Alhassan Yakmut confirmed yesterday after addressing the athletes undergoing training. The All African Games is holding in Congo Brazzaville from September 4 to 19, 2015. This is a clear departure from the usual practice of releasing funds two weeks to a major international event. An excited Yakmut promised to release the approved figure to the public in line with 'Change Agenda' which promotes transparency in governance. "Mr. President has just approved the funds for the All African Games and I understand we shall be formally informed on Tuesday. "So, as soon as we get the information about the exact figure approved from the budget we submitted, we will make it open to the public because we intend to run a very transparent administration. " And I think by the time we finish computing all what we have done in the last three months, we are going to say how much has been spent on each item of the projects that we have executed including the Federations. "And I am sure that you have noticed that the Federations are beginning to feel the public funding scheme especially the ones regarding the All African Games," Yakmut added. According to him, apart from the 19 sports that Nigeria will participate in, two other sports namely swimming and gymnastics have been placed on standby in the event that there would be athletes that are exceptionally good to represent the country in the two sports. To ensure that athletes have the best preparations, Yakmut said that the Federations that have requested for foreign technical support would have them. The Director General spoke further on this, "We are taking part in 19 events and two other events that are actually on standby. If we have pockets of athletes that are exceptionally good like gymnastic and swimming, we will carry them on their merit. "Regarding technical aid, in fact we are in global technical business and we cannot reduce ourselves to a situation that no matter how bad our coaches are, we must sustain and retain them. "What we have done is to support the four federations that have requested that they will need technical back-ups from foreign countries. "So, wrestling has requested for two back-ups either from Europe, the United States or Canada. Table tennis has also requested fat technical support from Sweden, China or Japan. "Already, South Korea is supporting us on taekwondo and basketball has already recruited transparently. "All these we are doing to make sure that we don't leave technical opportunities unattended to," Yakmut assured. http://www.nigerianeye.com/2015/07/buhari-approves-funds-for-all-african.html Cc lalasticlala ishilove |

IN the wake of allegations leveled against it, ranging from non-remittance of a N3.8 trillion revenue from January 2012 to May 2015 constituting 48 per cent of total income for the period to withholding of dividends from the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), the country’s giant oil corporation has clarified that there was no iota of truth in the claims, saying they are all borne out of a denial of the reality of dwindling petroleum earnings arising from the global fall in prices. In a position paper that it presented at a recent meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, the embattled Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) contended that contrary to the general impression that it “spent the balance of N3.8 trillion (after remitting the sum of N4.65 trillion into the Federation Account) on its operations, the truth is that a bulk of that amount was unrealized revenue owing to the fuel subsidy regime which is a Federal Government policy.” In the document, the corporation stated that the N3.8tn was not remitted because it was unrealized revenue and likened it to a situation where an agency like the Customs Service could not meet its revenue generation target because of duty waivers granted by the Federal Government to some companies on a certain category of goods. “When petrol and kerosene are imported at say N130 and N140 per litre respectively and the subsidy regime dictates that they be sold at N87 and N50 per litre respectively, the balance of N43 and N110 per litre that is lost (not realized) over the period of review is what makes up a bulk of the N3.8tn that was allegedly not remitted and which Nigerians are being made to believe was willfully withheld by NNPC and ignorantly referred to as operation expense by NNPC,” the document explained. Putting the losses or unrealised revenue incurred from petroleum subsidy in the period under review at 2.14tn, the Corporation further explained that crude oil and products losses as a result of theft and pipeline vandalism also constitute another stream of unrealized revenue amounting to a total of N250.2bn. “It is grossly erroneous for people to think that pipeline vandalism and its twin evils of crude and products theft do not have any implication on what accrues to the Federation Account at the end of the day, but unfortunately, that appears to be the thinking,” the document stated www.today.ng/news/nnpc-denies-withholding-national-revenue/ Cc ishilove |
RIP Ma'am |
U see its 60 to buhari and 40 to jonathan If u read the article that made front page the other day, u will see where they say that the increase in power generation is due to the zero case of pipe vandalism.. Remember it was Buhari who revoked the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to the militants and gave it back to the Nigeria navy to protect... Then GEJ implemented some gas projects like that. |
Modified: N1b it is I think all huge amounts withdrawn from various bank accounts by government officials should be investigated. |

That's a cool gesture from the US |
It was what I was tryna say on the other thread by midolian.. The DSS shouldn't be behaving like the DSS during jonathan regime which was for pure political witch hunting.. I believe dasuki might be guilty of misappropriation of security funds and should be investigated thoroughly, but not the way the DSS are going about with it.. I would have prefer they remain silent and wait till they have indisputable evidence against him before releasing a press statement, that way people won't see it as a vendetta. |
Sai Buhari Man of integrity Na only you sure pass for naija But seriously na only 3 out of 36 pass the test.. |
