A woman who is being held in isolation as the index COVID-19 case in Benue State is demanding her immediate release from quarantine as well as public apology from government.


The woman, Mrs Susan Idoko-Okpe, a Nigerian – British citizen, through her lawyer, Ebun Olu Adegboruwa, SAN accused the authorities of detaining her against her will “and for no verifiable reason.”

In a letter dated 23 April, 2020 and addressed to the Minister of Health, the Senior Advocate alleged that his client was being mistaken for another person because she was not in the country when the tests upon which her isolation was based were conducted by the health authorities.

“The documents constituting the purported test results leading to the erroneous conclusion that our client has tested positive for COVID-19 are as follows:

“Letter dated 2nd April 2020 from the Federal Ministry of Health, signed by A.M. Abdullahi, Permanent Secretary and addressed to the Chief Medical Director of Benue State University Teaching Hospital. The subject of the said letter is said to be one “…Ms. Susan Okpe, a 62-year-old Nigerian-British citizen…”. As you would kindly confirm from our client’s bio-data on her international passport and even her Reference Card at the Grace Cottage Hospital, her name is Susan Idoko-Okpe and she is 56 years old.


“Letter dated 2nd April 2020, from the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, signed by Dr. Patrick Echekwuebe, Head of Infectious Diseases Unit and addressed to the Infectious Diseases Unit of University of Abuja Teaching Hospital. The subject matter of the said letter is “Okpe Susan/Female/62yrs”, whereas as stated earlier, our client is Susan Idoko-Okpe and she is 56 years old.

From the contents of the letter from the Benue State University Teaching Hospital above, it shows clearly that our client was not and could not have been the person referred to therein, for the following undisputed facts:



“As of 28th February when the letter was written, our client was still in the United Kingdom and she only arrived in Nigeria on March 22, 2020, as confirmed by the stamp of the Nigerian Immigration Service on her passport.

“The said letter indicated that the patient was referred to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital from a private hospital ‘after she tested positive to COVID-19’. As of this period, no test had been )nor could have been) conducted on our client, as she was still in the United Kingdom and had not arrived Nigeria at all; and our client is not Susan Okpe and she is not 62 years old.

“The third document is a purported laboratory test result from the National Reference Laboratory, Abuja, which refers to “Okpe Susan, 58 years, female, Benue State, Otukpo Local Government Area”. As stated above, our client is not 58 years old, she is not Okpe Susan and she is not from Otukpo LGA. In this same test result, it is stated that the “Date of onset of Fever” is “16/03/2020”, by which date our client was still in the United Kingdom, having only arrived Nigeria on March 22, 2020.


“The above is the only test result that has been given to our client since her ordeal started and it is the basis of her forceful detention and erroneous labeling as the so-called index case of COVID-19 in Benue State. Our client has been forced to take other tests at the National Hospital, Abuja, but no results have been given to her, despite her repeated demands. All the three documents presented to our client as constituting the results of COVID-19 tests are herewith collectively attached as Annexures D, D1 and D2 respectively.

“From all the foregoing, it is clear that our client is not and could not have been the person referred to in all the documents enumerated above. COVID-19 tests conducted in Nigeria in February 2020, could not in all possibility, refer to our client, who was at that material time in the United Kingdom. Presently, our client is being detained against her will, upon the condition that she must go through COVID-19 treatment, when the basis of that conclusion does not relate to our client at all. It is now well over one month since our client has been in unlawful captivity and she has been hale, hearty and without any symptoms of COVID-19, or indeed any other sickness or disease. She deserves her freedom, which is her constitutional right.

“Although, our client appreciates the efforts of government in containing the COVID-19 pandemic, it is however wrong to turn her into a victim of a virus that she has not been diagnosed of being infected with. Accordingly, we hereby on behalf of our client, request the Honourable Minister to use his good offices to give effect to the following:

“(i) Direct the immediate and unconditional release of our client from unlawful custody at the National Hospital, Abuja; and

“(ii) An unreserved public apology rendered to our client, to be published in two national newspapers, two national television stations, two national radio stations and the social media.

“Upon her release and proper rehabilitation, our client will determine the quantum of damages that she had suffered as a result of her ordeal and revert to you with details thereof, for settlement,” Adegboruwa wrote.

Two serving corps members identified as Mohammed Alhaji-Musa and Hauwa Yahaya-Bagudu are set to get married on Friday February 7, after meeting at NYSC’s orientation camp in Kano almost a year ago.

Mohammed Alhaji Musa is reportedly from Afo in Nassarawa State, while Hauwa Yahaya Bagudu is from Nupe ethnic group in Niger State.

Recounting how he met his bride, Musa said their first meeting was at the NYSC orientation camp kitchen in Kano State.

He said;

“We met in camp during our platoon activities, especially the day we met during our platoon duty in the kitchen.

“Since then love took hold of me like breeze from nowhere. I was overwhelmed by her kindness and the kind of hospitality I received the first day I went to their house”.

On her own part, Hauwa said she never wanted to serve in Kano. She added that her deployment to the state has now turned out to be a huge blessing to her.

Popular Nigerian actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie took to social media to reveal why she stopped acting romantic scenes.

She made this known via a recent interview with Goldmyne TV at the premier of her directorial debut movie, Legend of Inikpi. According to the soon-to-be mom of four, she made some choices in the past that she isn’t proud of.

A gynaecologist has issued a warning to all women on why they should not shave their private part.

A gynaecologist has urged women not to remove their pubic hair.



Dr Jen Gunter, author of The Vagina Bible, warned against waxing or shaving because it can cause “microscopic trauma” that can lead to infections.

While the purpose of pubic hair is somewhat of a mystery, going “au naturel” is necessary to protect the skin by acting as a barrier against the outside world.

Getting a Brazilian may also reduce sexual pleasure, with pubic hair being connected to nerve endings that might help arousal, Dr Gunter added.

Pubic hair “grooming” has almost become the norm, with many blaming the porn industry.

Scientists from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), asked more than 3,300 women about their downstairs grooming.

Of which, 83.8% claimed to wax, shave or epilate their pubic hair, with just 16.2% leaving it intact.

“Hygiene” was the most commonly reported reason (59%) for women removing their hair.

But Dr Gunter warns waxing, shaving or “sugaring” – mixing sugar, lemon juice and water to create a wax-like gel – may do more harm than good.

“You are causing microscopic trauma to the skin,” she told the BBC.

The gynaecologist added she sees women with cuts, grazes and even infections when hair removal goes awry.

“Pubic hair has a function, it is probably a mechanical barrier and protection for the skin,” she said.

“It may also have a role in sexual functioning because each pubic hair is attached to a nerve ending, that’s why it hurts to remove it.”

Why do we have pubic hair?

The role of pubic hair is not fully understood.

Most experts think it is involved in the release of pheromones, chemicals that trigger arousal.

Pheromones are thought to be “get trapped in pubic hair when glands release an odourless secretion on the skin that combines with bacteria decomposed by the secretion of (other) glands”, according to an expert from Columbia University in New York.

This produces a scent that varies from person-to-person.

Some studies suggest women are attracted to pheromones that differ significantly from their own because it suggests genetic diversity, the expert added.

Other theories as to pubic hair’s purpose include warmth or helping the vagina stay “clean”.

“Pubic hair prevents dirt and particles from entering the vagina,” the Columbian scientist reported.

Critics argue, however, if warmth was the reason, men would surely have more hair along their penis and around their scrotum.

The protection theory also falls short because men do not have similar cushioning around the opening of their urethra.

Humans are thought to have removed their hair as far back as prehistoric times.

“Tweezers” made of shells have even been found in ancient caves.

The Egyptians also reportedly associated body hair with uncleanliness.

Removing pubic hair may have some benefits, by protecting against body lice.

The tiny insects live on coarse human hair, like that found around the genitals, according to the NHS.

Body lice spread via skin-to-skin contact, usually sex.

As well as thriving on the genitals, the insects can also set up home on the armpits, legs, chest, abdomen, back, face, and even the eyebrows and eyelashes.

Basically, anywhere with hair, aside from the scalp.

These days, women are less likely to remove their pubic hair out of a fear of lice.

“The increased prevalence of pornography that depicts bare Instruments, popular magazines and television are primary drivers of the trend in the United States,” the UCSF scientists wrote in the journal JAMA Dermatology.

In their study, 875 women (31.5%) claimed they groomed their pubic hair because they felt it “made their genitals more attractive”.

And 586 (21.1%) said it is their “partner’s preference”.

Asked when they would remove their pubic hair, most (55.6%) said before sex.

This was followed by before a holiday (45.7%) and to prepare for a “healthcare professional visit” (40%).

For those who still want to go hair-free “down there”, Dr Gunter urges them to use a clean razor and shave in the direction of the hair.

Going “against the grain” increases the risk of ingrown hairs, which can become infected.

And for those who go for a wax, ensure the technician does not “double dip” the wooden sticks used.

This could spread bacteria between clients, Dr Gunter added.

Nollywood actress Monalisa Stephen was attacked on social media weeks back when she stated that she doesn’t want to marry neither have children of her own.



But in a new interview with Vanguard, the actress has opened up on the reason why she is making that critical life decision.

“Most people think it’s abnormal not to have your own flesh and blood and they think I took this decision because of my past relationship/heartbreak. Even someone personally chatted me and said she hopes I will find time to heal from what I am going through, blah blah, but this is a decision I took when I was 15, even though I am in my 20s but I relate well with older people and they thought me a lot of good things which changed my approach to life decisions and situations,” she said.


She further stated that people should not mistaken her decision for hatred for children.

“I love children a lot. When I was a teenager I would volunteer to go Care Homes and work since I don’t have money to give them and till now I still do it. Not to blow my trumpet or anything I just love caring for children and I know how it feels not to have parents. The Nollywood actress who debunked claim of ever being married in the interview with New Telegraph, disclosed that she will love to have a complete family with a man she loves wholeheartedly and also have more children.

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has yet again taken to her Instagram account to appreciate God after she survived a recent violent attacked by an unknown gunmen.

Recall that the actress was allegedly attacked by gunmen in the early hours of Saturday December 14th. It was widely believed that the attack was carried out by suspected armed robbers.

However, in a post she shared on Sunday morning, Angela described the attack as an assassination attempt. According to her, 10 bullets were removed from her head.



She wrote;

On Saturday, December 14, it was widely reported that Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie was attacked and left in a pool of blood.

According to blogger Stella Dimokokorkus, Angela Okorie ran into armed men on December 12th on her way back from a show and they riddled her car with bullets.

She was later hospitalised after sustaining serious injuries.

It was also gathered that 14 bullet pellets were removed from her hair and she suffered a little injury to her shoulder.

“I think the bullet pellets were blocked from penetrating her head by a wig she had on. … she has left hospital and is in shock.,” the reports added.

However in a swift reactions to the accident trauma, the single mother one shared some lovely photos on her Instagram page and prayed death unto anyone that doesn’t want her alive.
