Politics / PDP, Jonathan Plan To Manipulate Elections, Implicate Opposition Leaders- APC by yougos(m): 12:53am On Mar 06, 2015
BY RAZAQ BAMDELE

All Progressives Congress (APC) has again
raised the alarm that Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) and President Goodluck Jonathan’s
administration have hatched several plans to
manipulate the general elections.

Addressing a press conference in Lagos
yesterday, the National Publicity Secretary of
the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the
alleged plans included implicating some
leaders of the APC with a view to getting them
out of circulation before the election as well as
crediting professor Attahiru Jega’s bank
account with a huge sum of money to indict
some APC leaders.
The party regretted that “while we in the APC,
and definitely most Nigerians expect nothing
less than very transparent elections, indi
cations are that those at the helms have grown
so desperate that they do not even want the
elections to hold.”

According to Mohammed, PDP and Jonathan’s
attitude was that “even if the elections must
hold at all, they must be held on their own
terms, which is with no PVCs, no card readers,
no Jega, and the military must be deployed to
intimidate voters.”
He claimed, “this administration knows it can
never win in a free, fair and credible election
because of its appalling record in office, so, it
has hatched some evil plots to deny the people
of Nigeria their right to vote for change.”
Mohammed alleged: “There is a plot to transfer
a humongous amount of money into the bank
account of the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru
Jega, and then claim that the money came
from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC
in order to justify the ongoing plan to sack
Prof. Jega, so, he won’t organise the elections.

“Beyond Jega, there is also a plan to credit the
bank accounts of some key national
institutions with huge amounts of money
purportedly from our party, the APC,
ostensibly to compromise those institutions.

“There is plan to use some political parties that
are satellites of the PDP to push for the
postponement of the elections again. The plot
is to get the parties to address a press
conference to say the elections should not
hold in the North- East until September 2015
because of the ongoing counter-insurgency
battle there. The intention is to make sure Je
ga’s tenure expires before the polls, so that
they can appoint a malleable card-carrying
member of the PDP as INEC chair to conduct
the polls.

“There is a plan to use the security agencies to
intimidate key opposition leaders as well as the
Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)
and telecommunications service providers to
disrupt voice and data transmission, especially
in APC strongholds, on election day.

“There is also the ongoing illegal recruitment of
over 500 new cadets into one of the country’s
security outfits, 50 per cent of whom are from
the home state of the outfit’s top brass, in
violation of the provisions of the constitution,
especially as the recruitment does not reflect
the Federal Character.

“The Presidency has retained the services of
two Israelis and a Belgian, who are currently
holed up in the Aso Rock Villa to hack and
corrupt INEC computers on election day, with
the trio having already been paid 25 per cent
of their contract fees upfront.

“Huge funds are being provided for retired and
serving security personnel to buy up PVCs, with
the hope that they can be used once the card
reader is compromised. Remember,
gentlemen, that there is a case in court seeking
to declare the use of the card reader in the
forthcoming elections unconstitutional.

“In the days leading up to the elections, the
Jonathan administration is planning to give the
opposition the Ekiti treatment by massively
arresting key opposition leaders, with a view to
destabilising their ranks, putting them away
and paving the way for a free rein of their
rigging agents. Towards this end, thousands of
signed blank detention orders have been
procured.

“As part of the plan to implicate our leaders,
illegal substances may be put into their
checked-in luggage during local and
international flights. That is why we are calling
on our leaders to travel only with their carry-
on baggage.”

The party said it decided to share the
information it allegedly received with Nigerians
because of its belief that no power was strong
enough to stop people who were determined
to effect change, since ultimate power resided
in the people

Politics / NIS Recruitment Tragedy: FG Stands By Automatic For Victims by yougos(m): 2:55am On Dec 31, 2014
Buhari’ll always be contender –Minister

From ROMANUS UGWU, Abuja
The Federal Government has reassured the

relatives of the dead and victims of the
Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment
stampede not to lose hope in securing
automatic employment into the agency. It
blamed the delay on administrative bottleneck.
Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, who gave
the assurance in a chat with journalists in
Abuja, said the government was trying to
formalise the employment such that it would
not constitute any problem to the beneficiaries
in the future.
Asked for an update on the promise from
President Goodluck Jonathan shortly after the
incident, the minister said: “At this point, I can
only say that the commitment of the Federal
Government to the implementation of the
directive of Mr. President on the victims of the
Immigration recruitment tragedy is on course
and total.

“Arrangements have been completed to ensure
the implementation of the automatic
employment of three relations of the dead
victims and the injured hospitalised survivors.
We will as soon as practicable implement the
directive.

“What happened that seemed like a delay is
the fact that the directive has to be situated
along administrative processes so as to have a
seamless engagement of such officers that
may not have the burden of having to render
explanations in the future if they were not
followed through in line with laid down
regulations. However, I want to assure you that
the directive is certainly one that must be
implemented,” he assured.
About 21 job applicants died on March 15 this
year during the recruitment nationwide.
Following public outcry, the Senate raised a
committee to probe the incident, the report
was being awaited nine months on.
He equally spoke on whether Gen
Mohammadu Buhari is threat to President
Jonathan in the forthcoming Presidential
election stating emphatically that: “Gen Buhari
will never be a threat to President Goodluck
Jonathan’s re-election. I said this with due
respect to the person of Gen Buhari, but it is
very difficult in our democracy to suddenly
wake up from the wrong side of the bed to
rewrite history.”

“From 1999 till today, certain persons have
become permanent candidates for particular
elections and as long as you remain a
permanent candidate in elections, you will
continue to be a permanent loser.

“No matter the language you use in bringing it
about, the fact is that a winner will never
continue to be a permanent candidate since
our democracy is tenured. No candidate can
contest for more than 16 years in the case of
Gen Buhari and not be permanent loser. If he
is a candidate for more than 16 years, the
tendency is that he will still lose. The person
who has continued to win will continue to win,”
he quipped.

Defending the candidacy of the incumbent,
Moro said: “In President Goodluck, we have a
candidate who since assumption of office has
left nobody in doubt about his passion for
developing the Nigeria project and take the
country to the next level of development.”

“Under his watch, Nigeria has recorded
tremendous achievements inspect of the
teething challenges facing the country
especially security challenges. It takes a man of
vision and focus to refuse to be distracted by
the challenges of insurrection and insurgency
on the land to record modest achievements in
transforming the country.

“From whatever angle we look at the country,
certain modest achievements have been
recorded. Whether it is in railway, aviation,
education, road transport, name it. The truth is
that Nigeria has moved from the decay this
government inherited to the level we are
today. I can assure you that any person
contesting against Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, in
2015 presidential election definitely has a
herculean task to unseat him.

“Nigerians have seen the manifestation of
good governance and the direction the country
is going under President Jonathan is the right
way to go in terms of national development.
Any upset in an electoral process this time is
certainly taking Nigeria to the past and dark
days to start all over again.

“Now that the contestants are known, it is
going to be PDP and other parties. They made
it so by coming together as political parties in a
merger against the PDP. While Gen Buhari will
represent other parties, President Jonathan
will represent the PDP and I have no iota of
doubt that most Nigerians are going to vote for
Dr. Jonathan.

“He is certainly going to win the election in
2015 because everybody is mobilised and
sensitised. I can tell you that every foot soldier
of the PDP will go to the trenches during and
after this festive period. The outcome of it will
be the re-election of President Jonathan,
starting from February 14, 2015 when the
general election will be conducted,” he said.

Politics / Court Stops INEC From Publishing Names Of PDP Candidate by yougos(m): 2:25am On Dec 31, 2014
From GODWIN TSA, Abuja

A Federal High court sitting in Abuja yesterday
stopped the Independent National Electoral
Commission [INEC] from publishing names of
nominees of the Peoples Democratic Party
[PDP] for national and state Assemblies
election from Ondo State.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed issued the
preservative order after listening to contempt
proceedings initiated against the electoral
body by the Olu Agunloye-led executive and
some aspirants to the House of
Representatives.

The contempt proceedings against INEC, the
PDP national body, its National Chairman,
Alhaji Ahmed Mu’azu and the National
Secretary, Prof. Wole Oladipo emanated from
an order of the court directing them to relate
with the Ondo State PDP executive headed by
Dr. Olu Agunloye in respect to the conduct of
primary elections.

But rather than complied with the said order of
Justice Adeniyi Ademola, the alleged
contemptnors received two lists of nominees
from the PDP national body and the plaintiffs.
In moving the application for contempt on
behalf of the plaintiffs, Prince Ajibola Oluyede
insisted that INEC violated the order of the
court made on December 18, 2014.

However, counsel to INEC, Ibrahim Bawa,
argued that the commission was not in
contempt of any order of court as there was
no order stopping INEC from receiving
nomination list from the PDP national body.
Besides, he argued that the electoral body
acted in accordance with the provisions of
Section 31 of the Electoral Act 2010.

“We are only guided by the position of the law
that we should receive nomination list of
candidates from the national headquarters of
political parties,” he said.

In his ruling, Justice Mohammed held that
“none of the parties should do anything that
would render the subject matter of the suit a
nugatory till Tuesday, January 6, 2015.”

Justice Mohammed, however, declined to
pronounce on the contempt in view of the fact
that there were divergent interpretations on
the order issued by Justice Ademola by both
counsel.

However, he said in view of the urgency of the
matter and the time limit for submission of
candidates’ list, there was the need to preserve
the subject matter of the suit.

Justice Ademola of a Federal High Court had
earlier sacked the executive of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) put in place by
Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State after
he defected to the party.
