The author of Last Days at Forcados High School, Dr. Ayobami Hanif Mohammed, is planning to sue JAMB and the Cassava Republic Press for conspiring to violate his copyrights.
The book, written by Mohammed in 2006 as a student of University of Lagos (UNILAG) was in 2014 accepted by JAMB as the official handbook for candidates in the Use of English on the recommendation of Fafunwa Educational Foundations
The Publisher, Ms Bibi Bakare-Yusuf, was siad to have signed an agreement with JAMB on behalf of the author for the book to be used between 2014 and 2017. Terms and conditions for the contract was agreed upon and signed by the parties concerned.
However, trouble started when the publisher after signing agreement with JAMB in 2014, turned round to request from Mohammed a lower royalty which the author refused on the premise that the fresh proposal was a violation of the initial contract.
According to him, his refusal to accept the offer and other issues arising resulted in his book being replaced by JAMB with another book from the same publisher as the recommended text for 2017 UTME candidates.
This got him infuriated, and is planning to initiate legal proceedings against the publisher and JAMB.
When contacted, JAMB spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin said, “We had an understanding with Cassava Republic, not the author. I don’t even know the author. The copies we are using for the direct entry candidates are the books we paid for last year, except the author wants us to return it so he would refund our money.”
On the sudden change of the book to the new one after persuasion by the registrar failed, he said, I’m not privy to the meeting with the registrar, like I said earlier; we had an understanding with the publisher not the author.

ABUJA – SENATOR Dino Melaye will this morning, file a N5 billion libel suit against an online media platform, SaharaReporters,Vanguard gathered late Wednesday.
The senator who represents Kogi West Senatorial District,on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, according to a source,is taking the action over the organisation for alleged defamation of character, wrongful accusation, among other charges.
The suit, according to his media office, would be file at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, at 9am today.
When contacted for confirmation by Vanguard, the Kogi born legislator admitted that he had concluded arranment for filing of the suit this morning.
Recall that Melaye has been embroiled in certificate scandal since Sahara Reporters, an online media platform, published report that the lawmaker never graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he attended his first degree course.
The development court the Senate attention Tuesday, leading to its decision to refer the matter to its Ethics and Privileges Committee for investigation ,when Senator Ali Ndume, APC, Borno South, brought up the issue during plenary.
The committee was directed to investigate the claim that he does not possess an authentic first degree certificate from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
During the day’s plenary presided by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, the upper legislative chamber decided to conduct the investigations, following a point of order raised by ousted Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, who noted that both issues, raised by the online medium, borders on the privileges of the senators.

The Peoples Democratic Party youth group known as the PDP Youth Frontier has said that Governor, Mallam Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna was planning to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari
The group also said that El Rufa and Prsident Mohammadu Buhari are the same and that ‘they have both lost momentum, they are replica of the APC a party without direction and agenda’

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Modu Sheriff, yesterday insisted that he would not resign from office as suggested by his rival, Senator Ahmed Markafi.
Fielding questions from newsmen in Agbor, Delta State after a breakfast meeting with the National Deputy Chairman, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, he said he cannot be deceived by anybody.
His words: “I can’t resign. I want the PDP to be at peace, but the very man who is talking of resignation today, if I resign will it not be so that he can destroy the PDP? There is no aircraft without a Pilot. There is no ship without a Captain. Anybody who tells the Captain of a ship to go down wants the ship to capsize. We don’t want PDP to capsize. PDP will always get their leaders through a democratic electioneering process.
“Anybody or persons you see kicking against the party machinery are agents of distraction and destruction; they have an agenda which they are now letting Nigerians know. Their agenda is not to build, it is something different. This party belongs to us.
“I was in Imo. All I told my Deputy, Hon. Cairo Ejugbo was that I will have breakfast in his house in Agbor since it is on my way to Benin. Now look at the crowd of people here to have breakfast with us.
“Nobody forced anybody here, they came voluntarily because they believe in the PDP. They believe PDP is the only party they should belong to. When people go out; sent by others to destroy the party, gradually, their true colour will show and it is up to Nigerians to make up their minds who are the real people, who are the people who want PDP to grow and who are the people who want the party destroyed.
“You know even as we are standing here everybody has his own mind to do whatever he or she wishes. Political parties are voluntary. Majority of our party men around the country felt the need for us to come together to be reunited back to the ideals of 1999.
So we set up a National Executive Council, NEC to review our situation before the party went to the Port-Harcourt convention.
“It was the NEC of the party that set up the NWC. If it can set up committee under my leadership and if the NEC makes a recommendation to bring solution to our party, why should I reject it? And the working committee of my party totally accepted the road maps that Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson took. I am here to bring solution to the party’s problems. I am not here to destroy the party.”
On the anti party allegations levelled against him, Sheriff said; “Ali Modu Sheriff never brought himself to power. Governors and leaders of the party asked me to lead. So if there is any allegation as such it means those who invited me are the moles. It is certainly not me. I am doing my job to keep the party together”.
On 2019 election, he expressed hope that the party would bounce back, stressing that the party under his leadership would weed off the saboteurs one after the other.
He said, “We have the PDP structure in every ward and local government in Nigeria. Why the PDP lost the election to APC at the central in 2015 was because of the impunity that I am fighting today. I am working to cancel impunity from the party. We want the people’s choices to man the offices not the candidates brought by Ali Modu Sheriff.
“We must allow the party to have their way. Democracy is government of the people by the people and for the people and not somebody who want to plant a governor in Borno, in Lagos; No. Then it is no longer government of the people.”

Recall that Apostle Suleman has since the last two weeks been accused by one Ms Stephanie Otobo of ditching her after having an amorous affair that led to her being pregnant and losing the baby.
Ms. Otobo, a Canada-based stripper has equally accused Apostle Suleman of promising to marry her but later failed to keep his words.
However, Ms. Otobo was arrested and later granted bail after filing a N500 million naira suit against the pastor.
Although Apostle Suleman has denied ever having anything to do with the lady except the possibility of helping her just like he does to numerous others in need, the alleged scandal won’t die off the media as claims and counter-claims from both sides have kept on coming.
Even the wife of Apostle Suleman, Dr. Lizzy Suleman has in a video said she knows her husband is not a cheat.
She said this when so many pictures kept flooding the social media wherein it was alleged that the pastor was having an amorous relationship with the lady.

senator Danjuma Tella La’ah (PDP-Kaduna South) says his Kaduna home was invaded on Thursday by about 100 people, including armed regular and mobile policemen.
“They came in trucks, buses and pick-up vans around 5 am, forced my security man at gunpoint to open the gate,” he said in a statement issued in Kaduna, adding that they operated at gunpoint and a destructive search on the property without a court warrant.
A source in Abuja confirmed the visitors to have been “top investigators and operatives of Department of State Services and Nigerian Police Force” who made the visit in connection with the Southern Kaduna killings.
The Senator said the visitors used knives to tear open his furniture, broke the louvers on his doors, tossed things around, destroyed the delicately plastered ceiling of his bedroom and entered the roof.
“In the course of their search, they took away a pump action gun with its official permit granted me since 2008. My two nephews, Friday Batan and Samson Tanko, who were in the house were manhandled by the armed security personnel and taken away to an unknown place. I am yet to establish contact with them.
"Also my wristwatches, expensive jewelry belonging to my wife have [been] carted away. I am yet to ascertain the extent of missing valuables in residence. I was informed about the incident while I was in Abuja. I cannot also establish if something very incriminating has not been planted in my home as part of the orchestrated plot not only to rubbish my integrity but criminalize me with the aim of prosecuting me
Senator La’ah attributed the raid to his calling Governor Nasir El-Rufai to order this year over his clearly biased stand against Southern Kaduna natives in the ongoing genocide there, adding that it followed various interrogations and psychological harassment the SSS in Abuja has meted out to him since then.
“It is on record that some Christian clerics from Southern Kaduna have also been quizzed by the SSS over their condemnation of the killings of members of their congregation,” he said. “Some youth leaders, journalists, and social commentators all from Southern Kaduna have been arrested and charged to court over innocuous comments on the ongoing killings in Southern Kaduna starting from last year.”
He said he wanted to put on notice that not only are law abiding, harmless natives of Southern Kaduna being maimed, killed and their communities destroyed by Fulani herdsmen, noting that Governor El-Rufai has traced some of the killers back to some African countries and paid them sums of money, and is making it a crime for anyone to mention the killings or call for lawful self-defence in the face of his failure to stop them.
“The Governor has not only made it a monopoly to be the one making very inciting and divisive statements over [these] killings, his clampdown on vocal voices of Southern Kaduna is making it harder for the much-needed mutual confidence on the parts of the beleaguered people of Southern Kaduna to look upon him as a fair and trustworthy leader,” the Senator said.
He called on all the people of Southern Kaduna not to take the law into their hands no matter the provocation.” Instead, he urged them to remain focused, hopeful and prayerful while keeping a watchful eye on their communities.
Our source, however, indicated that the security operatives who raided Senator La’ah’s residence obtained some helpful “evidence,” but did not say what it was.
He said investigators had been following the lawmaker since last year.

The acting president Yemi Osinbajo storms Lagos on Tuesday 7, march 2017 with his entourage to grace the occasion of the breaking ceremony of segment -2, railway modernization project in Lagos. This is as a result of APC campaign promises made to people to increase and improve transportation system in Nigeria. People that embellished the occasion includes Rotimi Amaechi, transportion minister, Gov. Ambode, lagos state governor and other cohorts. Going by his posits on Saturday in his home town, Osinbajo stressed that the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration will strive to deliver on its campaign promises to the people of Nigeria.
Osinbajo gave the assurance on Saturday at Ikenne, his home town where he was the Special Guest of Honour at the 39th Ereke Day celebration. Ereke is an annual festival organised in Ikenne, Ogun State, as platform for addressing the town’s developmental challenges. Osinbajo pointed out that the opportunity to address the nation’s numerous challenges and reposition the country for greatness is now. He said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration would keep its promises, saying “the President has no other business besides fixing the problems of the country.’’ He restated the commitment of the Federal Government to address the challenges facing the country.
On the other hand the minister of science and technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, had said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has delivered on the campaign promises of All Progressives Congress, APC, to the country. The minister also said a lot of policies had been put in place by the administration and assured that by the end of 2017, Nigerians would start seeing tangible results of the policies. In a bid to achieving their campaign promises the acting president Yemi Osinbajo storms Lagos to commission the breaking ceremony of segment -2 modernization railway project. ABUJA-CONTRARY to claims by Miss Stephanie Otobo that Apostle Joshua Suleiman went for her marriage introduction at her family house, her father, Rev. Benson Otobo, has refuted the claim, saying nothing as such ever happened.

Rev. Mr Otobo told journalists in Abuja, Monday that Apostle Suleman has never been to his compound nor known where he lives and that Stephanie, his daughter was not a decent girl he had wished, regretting why she was attempting to drag the name of the revered man of God to the mud.

When asked whether Apostle Suleiman had ever been to his house for any marriage introduction with his daughter, Rev. Otobo responded: “Not at all. Apostle Suleiman does not even know where I live.”

He, however, informed newsmen that he has since called Apostle Suleiman to distance himself from his daughter’s misconduct.

Reverend Otobo, who disclosed that his daughter was equally at loggerhead with him at the moment for scolding her two months ago over nude pictures he saw on her whatsapp platform, and that he was not surprised of his daughter’s current character given that she grew up with her mother in Sapele, Delta State, after he divorced her.

He disclosed that he put an end to his marriage to his daughter’s mother about 30 years ago due to her unfaithfulness.

But he said he was shocked that his daughter could go all that far attempting to rubbish the reputation of the man of God, adding that he was shocked to hear all his daughter said about Suleiman.

“I was shocked to hear this thing just yesterday. I’m not part of it at all. Even that my daughter, as I speak, we are at loggerhead because two months ago, I saw her picture on the internet, through her whatsapp. I had a shout with her on the way she dressed and I saw her with tattoo and all that, I now advised her that ‘look, why are you dressing like this, you need to dress decently even on whatsapp, she flayed at me, giving me names, calling me names, telling me I’m not serving God and different kinds of things I cannot even reveal to you now.

” She insulted me and told me that from that day on, I was not her father any more and that I should just forget about her for life.

” If a daughter is telling her father that, I don’t know why I would be involved in anything that concerns her. I’m not aware of all these things that she’s talking about.Not at all.”

He admitted that his daughter told him that she lives in Canada, wondering who she knows there that she was staying with.

“She told me she lives in Canada, I don’t know who she knew there.”

Answering question on the whereabouts of her daughter’s mother, Mr Otobo said: “Her mother is in Sapele. And it’s going to 30 years now that I divorced her mother, when these children were even small because of her unfaithfulness.

” So, I have divorced her for a very long time.”

When asked how old is Stephanie, he replied: “Stephenie is twenty something years.”

On where her daughter grew up, he said: “She grew up with the mother, she was very small when I divorced her mother. What is happening now is like ‘ like mother like daughter.”
