The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Thursday, demonstrated his commitment to attract foreign investors into the State by approving land for the establishment of a training centre in Lagos where architects, civil engineers and craftsmen will be trained on modern trends and technologies in the construction sector. Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode with Leader of Delegation, Knauf Group Management Committee, Isabel Knauf and Consul General of Germany, Mr. Ingo Herbert during a Courtesy visit to the Governor at the Lagos House, Ikeja, on Thursday, September 8, 2016. Ambode gives land to German firm investing $75m in Lagos *…Says Investment Confirms Nigeria’ll Come Out Of Recession *…Firm To Create 15,200 Direct Employment, Train 800 Annually The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Thursday, demonstrated his commitment to attract foreign investors into the State by approving land for the establishment of a training centre in Lagos where architects, civil engineers and craftsmen will be trained on modern trends and technologies in the construction sector. Governor Ambode, who gave the approval when he received a delegation from The Knauf Group, which is a German firm currently establishing a $75miilion building/ construction tools manufacturing factory in Lagos, said the approval for the land became imperative in view of the need to encourage investors to continue to invest in Lagos. The Knauf Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of modern insulation materials, dry lining systems, plasters and accessories, thermal insulation composite systems, paints, floor screed, floor systems, and construction equipment and tools. The delegation was led by a member of the Management Committee of the firm, Isabel Knauf and Consular General of German Embassy in Lagos, Mr. Ingo Herbert. Governor Ambode, who recalled the last time Herbert visited the Lagos House about eleven months ago, said his administration has remained focused to the promise of upholding judicial and security sector reforms, as well as creating a friendly environment for investment to thrive. He said the massive investment by The Knauf Group in Lagos was a pointer to the fact that investors were still willing to invest in Nigeria despite the economic recession, and that the country will come out of the economic doldrums even stronger. “I must commend the German government and The Knauf Group for showing something important to all Nigerians that beyond the economic recession, their total believe in our economy is unshaken because it is not enough for any investor to come into an area where they have never invested before and months after, the parameters for investment are not really looking good, but you stuck in there and beyond the fact that you have gone to procure land, you also have an established office within the last eleven months and you are already pumping in money into what you want to do. “This is a great pointer to the fact that you believe in the Lagos economy and also believe in the future of Nigeria and I like to encourage other investors to emulate what your firm and government is doing in Lagos and as they show interest, we will not hesitate to give them the necessary support,” the Governor said. Governor Ambode said The Knauf Group specifically deserved to be commended for not just investing in Nigeria, but also bringing the German vocational expertise on an area of construction that was hitherto not in existence in Nigeria into Lagos. Besides, the Governor said he was excited about the fact that the firm was not just establishing a factory here in Lagos, but also a training centre where Nigerians will be trained, adding that he would stop at nothing to encourage investors such as The Knauf Group. Earlier, Isabel Knauf said the team was at the Lagos House to brief Governor Ambode on the progress made so far since the project started in September 2015. She said the firm has 23 training centres all over the world training about 14,000 people annually, and that they would like to build the same training centre in Lagos where architects, civil engineers and craftsmen would be trained on how to technically install their products. She said upon completion of the factory, the firm would create 25,000 direct employment, adding that the training centre will cost about two million Euros to establish, while at least 800 Nigerians will be trained annually in the first phase. Knauf, however, solicited the support of the State Government in land space for the training centre and permit issues, a request which was instantly granted by the Governor. source http://www.vanguardngr. com/2016/09/ambode-gives-land-german-firm- investing-75m-lagos/

ABUJA- THERE was pandemonium Thursday
in Okpella, Estako East Local Government
area of Edo State as supporters of the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP clashed with
those of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
It was gathered that the incident started
brewing in the early hours of yesterday when
some PDP supporters were alleged to have
threatened to carry out attack on any
Okpellan supporting the ruling APC in
Okpella.
The clash came barely some hours to the
announcement of the postponement of
Saturday, September 10 Edo State
gubernatorial election by the Independent
National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The clash is also coming barely three days
after a youth body in Okpella, Okpella Youth
Council, warned in a recent publication of a
possible inversion of the community by thugs
hired by unknown politicians in Okpella.
It was also gathered that the youths were
initially reacting to an alleged gun shot at
the gate of a PDP stalwart in Okpella that
took place at about 3am on Thursday.
According to an eyewitness and a victim of
the attack who spoke on phone, Afebu Musa,
said they summoned a meeting to explain
more details to party supporters who were
curious about the likelihood of the election in
Edo State to hold on Saturday after reports
from the police and DSS that there is a
security threat in the state.
Afebu said, “We were at a meeting when they
were passing during their own campaign and
they stopped shouting who is doing this
here.
“I could hear some of them saying, this will
not happen! How come they are still not
been deflected? ”
“As if the property they destroyed were not
enough, they have chased my pregnant wife
and one of my tenants who they injured from
my house”.
“I sneaked out of my house with the help of
God and I don’t know how to go back home
because the police in Okpella were helpless
today at the scene of the incident”.
“We call on security agencies to help save us
from the hands of these boys. We have been
peaceful all this while and no one has found
us wanting throughout the campaigns but I
am surprise to see this happening.”

The Federal Government has described as sadly out of tune with reality the published letter from US Congressman Tom Marino to Secretary of State John Kerry, asking the US to withhold security assistance to Nigeria on the strength of some imaginary infraction by the Buhari Administration. In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Congressman Marino was poorly informed about the issues he commented on, wondering why he did not take the pains to get first hand information from the US Embassy in Nigeria or any other credible source before engaging in what is nothing but a ‘propaganda of his own imagination’. The Minister said by asking the US to refrain from selling warplanes and other military equipment to Nigeria based on a faulty premise, the Congressman has demonstrated a poor understanding of global security issues. ‘’Insecurity anywhere is insecurity everywhere. Had Congressman Marino understood this, he would not have made the kind of call he made concerning the US security assistance to Nigeria. The Boko Haram insurgency that Nigeria has decisively dealt with under President Muhammadu Buhari is not just a Nigerian problem but a regional and international crisis,’’ he said. Alhaji Mohammed said Congressman Marino definitely did not have Nigeria in mind when he wrote that the US should withhold security assistance to Nigeria until President Buhari ‘demonstrates a commitment to inclusive government and the most basic tenets of democracy: freedom to assemble and freedom of speech’. ”An Administration that operates purely on the basis of respect for the rule of law and a strict adherence to constitutional order is not one to deny the citizens of their constitutionally- guaranteed rights. This Administration therefore does not need the goading of Congressman Marino or anyone for that matter to do what is right. ”Concerning running an inclusive government, had Congressman Marino done his home work before dispatching his letter, he would have realized that no part of the country is left out in the distribution of political appointments, for example, or in the appointment of Ministers, which was done in accordance with the Constitution that mandates that the President must appoint at least one minister from each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. ”Had the Congressman sought information from credible sources before engaging in a flight of fancy, he would have been presented with a comprehensive information on the appointment of CEOs for Federal Government’s parastatals, agencies and commissions that shows that the appointments were almost evenly matched along the line of the six geo-political zones in the country: With the North West having 51, North Central 46, North East 45, South East 41, South West 45 and South South 45,’’ he said. ‘’The Congressman may wish to note that each geo- political zone comprises 6 states, with the exception of North West (7) and South East (5).’’ The Minister described Congressman Marino’s description of the Administration’s anti-corruption efforts as ‘selective’ as a tired argument that clearly shows that the US lawmaker must have appended his signature to someone’s concocted line. ”That line was invented by those seeking to cause an unnecessary distraction from the Administration’s anti-corruption efforts, and it has been roundly rejected. Congressman Marino’s decision to exhume the dead postulation without an iota of proof is a reflection of whose side he has taken in the ongoing efforts to rid Nigeria of corrupt elements. Needless to say that the anti- corruption battle will continue unhindered, irrespective of whose ox is gored. And in this fight, only the guilty needs be afraid,’’ he said. Alhaji Mohammed said Nigeria is delighted that US Secretary of State John Kerry, to whom the Congressman addressed his letter, is more knowledgeable, better briefed and definitely more hands on concerning Nigerian issues source: thenewsnigeria.com.ng/.../fg-to-us-

The Federal Government has described as sadly
out of tune with reality the published letter from
US Congressman Tom Marino to Secretary of
State John Kerry, asking the US to withhold
security assistance to Nigeria on the strength of
some imaginary infraction by the Buhari
Administration.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, the
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai
Mohammed, said Congressman Marino was
poorly informed about the issues he commented
on, wondering why he did not take the pains to
get first hand information from the US Embassy in
Nigeria or any other credible source before
engaging in what is nothing but a ‘propaganda of
his own imagination’.
The Minister said by asking the US to refrain from
selling warplanes and other military equipment to
Nigeria based on a faulty premise, the
Congressman has demonstrated a poor
understanding of global security issues.
‘’Insecurity anywhere is insecurity everywhere.
Had Congressman Marino understood this, he
would not have made the kind of call he made
concerning the US security assistance to Nigeria.
The Boko Haram insurgency that Nigeria has
decisively dealt with under President Muhammadu
Buhari is not just a Nigerian problem but a
regional and international crisis,’’ he said.
Alhaji Mohammed said Congressman Marino
definitely did not have Nigeria in mind when he
wrote that the US should withhold security
assistance to Nigeria until President Buhari
‘demonstrates a commitment to inclusive
government and the most basic tenets of
democracy: freedom to assemble and freedom of
speech’.
”An Administration that operates purely on the
basis of respect for the rule of law and a strict
adherence to constitutional order is not one to
deny the citizens of their constitutionally-
guaranteed rights. This Administration therefore
does not need the goading of Congressman
Marino or anyone for that matter to do what is
right.
”Concerning running an inclusive government, had
Congressman Marino done his home work before
dispatching his letter, he would have realized that
no part of the country is left out in the
distribution of political appointments, for example,
or in the appointment of Ministers, which was
done in accordance with the Constitution that
mandates that the President must appoint at
least one minister from each of the 36 states and
the Federal Capital Territory.
”Had the Congressman sought information from
credible sources before engaging in a flight of
fancy, he would have been presented with a
comprehensive information on the appointment of
CEOs for Federal Government’s parastatals,
agencies and commissions that shows that the
appointments were almost evenly matched along
the line of the six geo-political zones in the
country: With the North West having 51, North
Central 46, North East 45, South East 41, South
West 45 and South South 45,’’ he said. ‘’The
Congressman may wish to note that each geo-
political zone comprises 6 states, with the
exception of North West (7) and South East (5).’’
The Minister described Congressman Marino’s
description of the Administration’s anti-corruption
efforts as ‘selective’ as a tired argument that
clearly shows that the US lawmaker must have
appended his signature to someone’s concocted
line.
”That line was invented by those seeking to cause
an unnecessary distraction from the
Administration’s anti-corruption efforts, and it
has been roundly rejected. Congressman Marino’s
decision to exhume the dead postulation without
an iota of proof is a reflection of whose side he
has taken in the ongoing efforts to rid Nigeria of
corrupt elements. Needless to say that the anti-
corruption battle will continue unhindered,
irrespective of whose ox is gored. And in this
fight, only the guilty needs be afraid,’’ he said.
Alhaji Mohammed said Nigeria is delighted that
US Secretary of State John Kerry, to whom the
Congressman addressed his letter, is more
knowledgeable, better briefed and definitely more
hands on concerning Nigerian issues |
