Expose the API docs of the backend to the mobile app developer to use, he/she doesn't need to be a laravel developer.

bro, I wish I could send you the recordings of our audio convo. He looks like a person that is in dire need of help.

In this kinda work, sometimes, you'd meet people that would need your help and if you have a soft heart, you'd just do it before requesting for anything. I have been in that situation before and the person helped me out so I kniw how it feels. Infact, we spoke around 9pm and I got his website up before 4am. That's how much I was willing to help without upfront payment. I am a family man, I don't act too stiff in business. "Someone else will surely bring a job that cover the cost" that's my belief.

I don't need to even continue with this thread, I've done what needs to be done
Don't fall for it next time, business is business. Put any job on hold till you receive payment

I worked for a user here, built a whole e-commerce website and he has been ignoring my calls to pay up the rest of my money. I'm giving him just 30 minutes to do the right thing or I'll post our chat details, his name, photos and all the moniker he uses on nairaland here.

Just 30 minutes
I will still blame you on this, why did you even agree to it ? you don't start any job without receiving a part payment, you also don't deliver the finished job until you collect your balance.

What premium content would one want to view on Facebook lol
Meta has already rolled out plans to charge users in europe for an ad-free experience, they can easily charge users for advanced search or limit the number of stories you can view per day

What fintechs charge avearge Nigerians by subscriptions? I don't believe there is any. Except if you as using their SDKs, APIs and Payment links and they even charge by every transactions.

And how many average Nigerians pay for social media apps? Except you are an influencer or using the platform for business.

I understand why OP must feel bad about this issue he/she raised. No every developer has to work for an organization. There are many solo Developers making thousands of dollars from their apps in top countries like US or UK. The few here in Nigeria has to make an app targeting these countries to make such amount from here.

In-App subscriptions aside, you would make much more if your app is targeting a US/UK/Canada market with a free app showing Adverts and with just 1000 users than same app targeting Nigeria/African Countries/India with 10,000 users. Why? User in those countries has more tendency to click and Ad and buy.

It's simple, people would rather hold that cash than let go even if the app is useful to them here in Nigeria. They would rather hit your review section with bad comments asking why they have to pay for it and not free for use. The purchasing power is next to nothing.

If it's not Betting, Porn and any other thing they cannot be proud to say in public that they paid for, forget it.

PS: We are talking about average Nigerians. Not folks using Paystack, Flutterwave etc. for one business or the other. Let's all rest abeg, just simply think like a business man out to make money than like a Developer, if you wan chop with your skills.

Exactly ! My problem is that Nigerians will keep dragging with you that your app should be free, we have this very annoying entitlement mentality aside being stingy, they can go as far as giving your app a 1 star rating just to spite you

100 students with three sims is 30,000 votes. That's just three Premium subscription. Eko hotel in Lagos can have up to 20 subscriptions. One average employee in a bank would probably have a subscription that has 2500. A department in a branch in a bank may have up to 20 staff. Maybe more. Calculate the number of banks, and their number of branches and extrapolate the number of employees. Students are plenty but with very minimal votes. One working employee with a decent enough job, paying for a subscription is more valuable. You need to see the control centres for these housemates during voting. IUC (DSTV smart cards) are what they are mostly after.
there are more students than hotels in Nigeria, I'm telling you that students vote more, I'm not arguing that there can be additional votes from all those channels you mentioned but students votes are much more

Lol! How many votes are coming from those universities? Very minimal. Very very minimal. Those university guys have a maximum of 100 votes for each of their phone numbers. If they have 10 phone numbers, that's 1000 votes. 100 phone numbers, that's 10k votes. That's the vote from one premium subscription.

Let me breakdown were the "crookedness" in the voting occurs. There are loads and loads of subscribers who have valid subscription but don't watch BBN. So they are able to vote but don't watch the program and don't vote. The representatives of housemates in cahoot with unscrupulous Multichoice employees "corner" the login details of those people and use them to vote for their housemates. All those hotels with multiple subscriptions, hospitals, banks and all those businesses that maintain their subscription but aren't interested in the show or in voting, all of those are "cornered" by the housemates various teams and used to vote. Not the 100 free votes that university students can afford.
These days, every individual has about two to three phone numbers due to poor network, aside that, a single department in level 100 alone can have up to 100 students, do the maths again and see for yourself, we have dozens of universities and polytechnics in Nigeria, public and private, what of post graduate students, part time and other programmes and college of education, what of jambites and corpers ? Do the maths again, you will see that you are clearly wrong

I don't know about betting, but you see that bug brother, don't be fooled. Loads of unwholesome things happening on the voting end. Many Nigerian youths only use the free 100 votes per week. The large number of votes comes from housemates, their representatives and unscrupulous Multichoice Nigeria employees engaging in very unwholesome acts.

Can't go into the details of what happens here but leave out multichoice "pumped" voting.
Go to Nigerian universities and see how youths are voting for BBN massively, BBN organizers make cool money

I wonder too, we are poor but they are always online and following every tiktok trend, voting on BBN and betting every day, nothing will make me build anything freemium ever again and I will continue to advocate that other developers do the same, by the time they can't find a free version for anything, they will be forced to pay

The Nigerian market isn't ripe for SaaS products.

What almost everyone needs right now is access to food, water, electricity, telecommunication, finance, infrastructure, and transportation.

Our startups should try solving this problems instead of trying to build a scheduling app.
I think Nigeria is ripe for SAAS, it's long overdue, the problem is that they are too used to free things, a litre of fuel currently cost over 500naira, which means you will need to spend at least N1,000 to turn on your generator for few hours, even snacks at eatries these days can go for around N1,000 and people consume them on daily basis, why then can't they pay N1,000 per month for an app ? It's not just scheduling apps, there are apps that do other useful stuff

Nigerians are too poor. One way to know how people are poor, check what they spend the most on. If it is food, then they are poor.
I disagree, I think it's just stinginess, if they can buy data more than 10 times in a week, why should N1,000 be too hard to pay for a whole month ?

Which kind of application the guy self dey talk about cos I don't understand. Why is the guy so pained like that? In every app there is free version and go pro version for users. Free version will be limited to some options that pro version has so this is how to run an application. If users find your application worthy, application that solve their problem they will keep coming back even pay for the pro version.
Mind you! There are a lot of users who will always want free version.
You need to understand that not every app can have a free version, developers pay for server fees to store some app data and also pay fees to use thirdparty api's to make certain apps work

What app are you even talking about?

Is it by force they use your app or what?

Because I know if an app is good people usually pay for it irrespective of country or anything.

There's usually a free version or test period for an app then people who love the app eventually opt in for pro version.

There's no way you won't get people to use pro version of an app if it's good after they test the free version.... OF course they're people who will always want free version.

If you insist Nigerians don't pay for Apps then you're underestimating the purchasing power of Nigerians and need to really study the Nigerian market before launching any app.

U usually only need as low as 10% or 15% of your total users to opt in for pro to stay profitable.

What you need is roll out free version and gather more users so people who love your app pay for pro.

If you want them to pay immediately without a trial period when you're not a household name then you're wasting your time irrespective of the market
Who told you only 10% or 15% of the revenue is enough to make it profitable ?

You seem to forget payment processors take a fraction of the meagre amount charged for every subscription, add that with the money spent on ads and think again

You talking how many paid software do you use?

People have problems paying for premium to use any app no matter the country.

Standard of living and past exposure is the only difference other countries have against Nigeria.

Increase Nigerian standard of living and they won't mind parting some cash to pay for a service.

Why would they pay if there's a way to get it free?

I bet you if Tiktok, Facebook, Twitter or YouTube becomes 100% a paid platform even you will have objections paying.

Only solution is to build a very good product worth what you're charging.... Even if some people don't pay or use illegal means to access your app, Others who pay will cover up your lost.

Forget USA or some European countries... Those ones have strict law for piracy and people who distribute hacked or pirated software/product which in turn discourages people to use or illegally access products.

Yes When it comes to using illegal means to access paid apps.

You will and must rank Nigeria below India, Pakistan or most asian countries

Why because it's those countries who creates the hack and cheats that Nigeria uses grin
This has nothing to do with standard of living, You have money to buy data 100 times within a month but can't pay N1,000 once for an app, it's pure stinginess

Bro you don’t have to be angry, but your observation is valid. I have an app I made freemium for about a year. Few months ago I removed the Watch Ads to Use option and made it strictly subscriptions as Google took the app down from their store for some reasons. The number of emails I get from Nigerians and Indians on a daily asking stupid questions complaining why is the app no longer free is just too much. I no kuku send.

Best market is US by far. Those folks don’t mind and they will always take time to give honest reviews on your app. Only time most Nigerians take time to post a review na to complain.
Nigerians are just something else, Indians even do better a times. Most of us spend N600 every two days just to buy data and watch tiktok and instagram videos but can't pay N1,000 for a whole month to use an app that we find valuable, it's irritating. I think we the developers are the cause, maybe if we all gang up and enforce a fee on every app without any free usage option, they will be forced to change. I'm glad big apps like chatgpt, facebook, tiktok and twitter are slapping subscriptions on everyone's face, we really need to learn the culture of paying for the apps we use.

I personally don't fancy paying for app subscriptions and I will never pay for one.
I love your honesty ! That's just the pure truth, Nigerians don't like paying for apps. It's obvious from your response, it's out of shear stinginess not because you can't afford it, I wonder why we are like this, we don't like paying for apps and we would rather spam than pay for ads, it's why we can never have homegrown companies like the big microsoft, openai and the likes, the western part of the world has a culture for paying apps and that has been used to fuel innovation across the whole world, we will continue to remain behind for many years if you continue thinking everything that doesn't entertain you should be free, this attitude is why when AI are trained, less relevance is given to us, it's why our accounts are easily suspended on most platforms for very little offenses and most times when apps are launched, we are the last on the list to get to use it.

Secondly, everybody is not your customer... You might be approaching the wrong personas/avatars.
I believe if someone frequently uses an app, they use it because it provides value to them but Nigerians are always against paying no matter how small the fee is
