Golang be like C mixed Js.

If you sabi Js, golang no go hard.

Check am well.

The only language I think I'd prefer learning now is rust... but what's the need. Na 9ja I dey.
Golang is too sweet ! I have played with rust too, my problem with rust is its fast changing API and it doesn't come with certain things in the box, you'll have to experiment and make too many difficult decisions before you could even build anything tangible with it unlike golang that is plug and play

What i meant was that a lot of nairalanders who just learnt HTML have tried to replicate Nairaland in the past. Many of their site ashes are still littered in different posts here and there.

My feedback on your project was on the colors. I liked the black background and not the neon green fonts.

Looking forward to the new project.
Sure, I will share it here when I'm done. Thanks for the feedback
ProgrammingRe: Is There Any Other Active Forums Like Nairaland In Nigeria by YoungCabal: 9:53pm On Apr 30, 2023
truthCoder:
I remember the project.

It was a clone with black background and green colored fonts.

There have been hundreds of new Nairalands springing up every time someone completes his HTML and CSS trainings. Many have even bought domain names and launched but they all fail.

The failure reasons are many but i have identified some few:

First, you need promotions to push the new site to the potential users. This cost money and many dont have. “Organic growth “ is a long gone possibility for new projects except something viral happens to it. You have to pay to play. Ask PayDay and Kuda wassap.

Second, the founder should not be greedy. Look at seun, despite the traffic, advertising is minimal. This makes using nairaland enjoyable. If the founder cannot survive without ads, he can’t overthrow nairaland.

Third is the unique offering deficit. If you are not bringing something new to the table, why would new users sign in. Mastodon, BlueSky vs Twitter. Signal vs WhatsApp. If you don’t come with gifts, users will leave.

There are many others but..
Yeah, it was a temporal design, the main features were actually distinct. Seun blocked me on nairaland when I posted the link under his tweet, he later unblocked me though. Aside that, the new horizontal line added in between the featured links on nairaland frontpage currently was inspired by the new nairaland clone I built. Nairaland even copied android emoji's from my project guy.

I don't think someone who just completed html and css training, can build both the frontend and backend alone like I did, you seem to be forgetting nairaland has a backend ?

I have built a theme of the same nairaland clone and a featured links mod for the simple machine forum software and sold in the past years, I later built the last one from scratch just to have total control over the underlying API.

I'm currently building something else, maybe I'll get to share it here when I'm done hahaha

Why did you shut it down? Also was it Nairaland clone (copying the “outdated” NL look) or was it a more modern forum software like Discourse aor Reddit?

@OP,
I’m also intrigued why there aren’t many more successful Nigerian forums. NL and LIB were the vanguard respectively for forum and blog. And while many other successful blogs have sprung up after LIB, the same cannot be said for forums
It had a dark theme and had more features than nairaland. I had to shut it down due to time management issue
ProgrammingDo You Buy Reviews Or Start From The Bottom As A Freelancer ? by YoungCabal(op): 6:35pm On Apr 30, 2023
Let's assume you are an experienced developer or designer who just signed up on a new freelancing site, which would you prefer ?

Option 1: start from the bottom to the top without spending a dime, note this might take time and you might get paid less as you start

Option 2: buy reviews and get to the top quickly, no time wasted, but there is no certainty that you will quickly get enough clients to cover up for the money you spent on reviews
ProgrammingRe: Is There Any Other Active Forums Like Nairaland In Nigeria by YoungCabal: 6:22pm On Apr 30, 2023
I built one from scratch as a side project earlier this year but later shut it down though I added additional features like paid member subscriptions, badges and marketplace for selling digital products e.t.c

I don't think I'll ever have time to touch the source code again sef

Fake it until you make it really worked for the founder of this payday app, I remember some years back, Favor Ori had one scandal with not paying interns and instructors he set up for some projects, man apologized and left twitter, came back and rebranded. I'm happy for him sha, hope he doesn't mess up again this time

You can build themes for popular cms like wordpress and shopify and sell them online on sites like codecayon or via your own site
CareerRe: How Do I Build A Portfolio As A Tech Professional? by YoungCabal: 3:18pm On Apr 22, 2023
Don't waste your time building todo apps, build something you can sell or make money from even before you get a job. Most of the times, people make the mistake of building portfolio's solely for job hunting. A portfolio should be like your day to day personal ID card, who knows ? That tiny app you built could get acquired by one big company, never stop building !

And I'm telling you buddy,we can never know because we don't live there
Haba nau, there would have been at least few twitter threads about it by certain individuals even if registered news outlets didn't report the incidents. I'm still of the opinion that they are either chasing clout or seeking to cut corners for migration through asylum.

Uglyman029:
If a country like Russia or China ban gay, would America still sanction them?
Lol! America always has a way to make sure you pay for your actions no matter who you are, both Russia and China have collected their own fair share of treatment. Uganda has too many problems to make LGBT law their top priority, either they are just chasing clout or scheming up for mass migration using the LGBT asylum card.
RomanceRe: USA Imposed Sanctions On Uganda For Her Anti Gay Law by YoungCabal: 12:38pm On Mar 25, 2023
Uglyman029:
USA says it may impose sanctions on Uganda, after the Parliament passed a law that makes being a gay person punishable with up to 10 years in prison.

Relatives, friends and community members are obliged to report gay people.

Gay sex is punishable with up to life in prison.

....
Help us balance this. There are States in the same USA with anti gay law, but USA impose sanction on countries she consider less powerful. Powerful Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia have the same anti gay law, but USA doesn't impose sanction and will never impose her laws on them, rather USA respect them. Look at what happen during the world cup in Qatar.

Untill we start having sense as Africans, we will always be controlled like this.
Your argument is very easy to switch around. You are neglecting the fact that Saudi Arabia is a "muslim country" unlike Uganda that is a "mixed religious country" with different tribes, you can easily say Saudi Arabia are following their Holy book but not in the case of Uganda where few individuals sit down to make choices for the masses. Before that law is put in place, there has to have been some sets of persons practicing homosexuality in Uganda so, it could easily be quoted by the U.S as an attempt to suppress the voices of certain individuals.

Personally, I'm even beginning to suspect that it's a trick by Uganda to make it easier for Ugandans to be granted asylum in the U.S, let's be honest, how many times have you heard on the news that a homosexual has been beaten or killed in Uganda ? If they hated homosexuality that much, we would have seen it in mob action. Don't mind those people, they know what they are doing

You think LP and Pdp would still have money to spend for rerun? Even going to court I doubt if any of the main opposition could afford it. Do you know how many lawyers you will need, eag lawyer with their team
yen yen yen ! rerun elections if you are sure of winning in a free and fair election and you are spewing thrash. Elections are conducted using tax payers money, the money that belongs to Nigerians, Tinubu won't be contributing a dime for it

Conducting election in Nigeria is not as easy as you thought.300 billions was budgeted for inec for this two elections.
how is the budget for election tinubu's problem ? Is he the one paying for the election done by INEC ? Even if it costs 1 trillion, it shouldn't bother him, after all, it's the people's money that will be used.

If tinubu won the elections and was chosen by the people as he claimed, why is he and his supporters afraid of a rerun ? Both PDP and Labour Party aren't even afraid, why then is the jagaban himself afraid that he had to run to court to stop them from stopping the collation ?
PoliticsWhat Advice Do You Have For Tinubu ? Drop It Here by YoungCabal(op): 9:15am On Mar 01, 2023
This is something I drafted for whoever emerges the winner of the 2023 elections not just Tinubu, you can drop yours too

Here is mine

1. Play an inclusive government
Don't divide the country by being nicer to some ethnic groups or religion and play deaf ears to others, I still believe Unknown gunmen, the yoruba movement, herdsmen and banditary wouldn't have been a thing today, if the present administration explored more options in the very beginning. Take for example, the Niger delta avengers issue, it died out in no time because it was looked into very fast and with all risk calculated, quick dialogue is more efficient than threats.

2. Focus on getting 100% cashless policy
One thing we can all admit the naira redesign have affected positively is the reduction in the rate of kidnapping and robbery. Yes, cash shortage made us suffer but to be honest, it revealed that if we had better electronic systems all over the place and ditched cash completely, nobody will go about knocking anyone's door at night to rob them, it's even more effective than policing these days. Every stolen money will be easily tracked, it might seems hard but it's very much possible after all, anyone can easily create a PSB mobile money wallet tied to their sim card now, getting rural areas shouldn't be too hard, if an entire community doesn't have a torchlight phone to manage their wallets, donate some to them and give them a small solar setup for recharging, a private company can do this and charge a transaction fee.

3. Engage the youths
Please, when I say engage the youths, I don't mean buying 20 to 30 boys around to protest and make statements on your behalf, rather call for youth town hall meetings occassionally and listen to whatever they have to say, you can send a representative and work with their feedback

4. Don't try to be Mr. I know it all
Seek advice before coming up with any new policies, give roles for experts to analyze the loopholes, this is the largest country in Africa, it shouldn't be run on one man's thoughts or ego.

5. Attract, don't chase
Focus on making Nigeria a better place to do business/work to attract more foreign investments rather than milking the little we already have through multiple taxation. Does Nigeria even have anything like freelancer Visa or benefits ? I doubt ! This is something we should look into, freelancers/remote workers should have access to government loans like in other countries too not just salary earners

This is all I have for now
