Good to know. I also know a thing or two about game development and full stack web development. I work with React on the front-end, node js, mongoose and Mongodb on the back-end and React Native for cross platform development.
I actually started game development a few years back but my system was too slow to run Unreal Engine so I just had to quit game development for the mean time after I had learnt the basics of C++ and was also learning Unreal Engine blueprint.
I also build 3d models with blender and animate them and I know how long it takes me to build a 3d model that has good topology with the minimum amount of polygons to make it light when I import it into Unreal Engine that was why I was trying to explain some of the stress involved in creating the kind of AA game the other guy wants you to create.

I was just laughing behind the scene when I read where the guy suggested building part of the game and using it to convince angel investors.

Lol! If only he knew the amount of work that is needed to build a single episode of such game, he wouldn't have mentioned it. You'll have to go through a long session of work without pay before you can even come up with anything tangible enough to convince any investor.

He thought I was talking cluelessly, I have worn the shoe and I know where it hurts most, a lot of us who build apps today wanted to be game developers as kids, after you see hell, nobody will tell you to look for something else to do with your gift


3d game development is not a child's play even abroad, small companies don't attempt to build big games like that, you have to be a well established game studio.

It took me about 2 months, 2-3 hours a day, sometimes I didn't code for days, I only return to it when I got bored with my main project.

I have checked the guy's comments on this thread and I can tell that the guy is a prospective web developer probably with a system capable of handling web development so I feel we should suggest more web dev or software/app dev projects which can be run with 4gb RAM systems. If you check the system requirements of Unreal Engine or Unity 3d, you will see that the guy needs a laptop of about 800k or so to get started because the laptop must have a minimum dedicated graphics card of Nvidia RTX 1060 so game Dev should be left alone for now.

The problem with most people on NL is that when you bring up a discussion, they prefer to give advice rather than discuss and when you disagree with them, they derail the thread and start insulting you.

It might shock you to know that I have a game dev experience, it's why I refused to engage that guy in the first place, godot doesn't require that much specs you listed up there and you can export 3d assets from blender to godot these days, the hardest aspect is cash to pay your partners to keep them motivated, it's not a job one can do alone especially the 3d modeling and sound creation/voice overs.

BTW! You are right to some extent about me, I'm a full stack engineer with a security background, I've worked as a sysadmin before, I use golang and php/laravel on the backend and tailwindcss with vuejs on the frontend, I settle with flutter for cross platform development.

When I started building a linux distro back then my goal was to offer a monthly subscription for ''paid support'' and a macOS like user interface, I'm not the kind of person that likes to wait for manner to fall from the sky, I prefer to be in charge of my destiny and I believe that's how anyone who wants to go far in life should think.

If you want to run a business, you must start thinking about how to make profit from day 1 not luck, even the largest open source company REDHAT use to offer paid certification and a paid support before they got acquired by IBM, you need a stream of revenue to keep the company running in the early days before you get that partnership or support from a bigger company else you will shut down in few months and lose all your investments.

An average team can build a AAA game and make it foss thereby allowing anyone to contribute to the game

If I were to do something like this , it'll be foolish of me to launch it as a start-up when I don't have funds, I'll launch it as a indie games dev team first or a non profit sort like Linux

I would launch it as an open source project first and build a stable version first then leave it for peeps all over the world to contribute

Many companies are looking for open source projects to fund but sadly there aren't enough
