phenase: Photo: Man bags 7year jail term for impersonation and obtaining by false pretence
Gabriel Charles (pictured) was yesterday sentenced to seven years in prison, after he was found guilty of charges bordering on impersonation and obtaining by false pretence.
Gabriel was arrested for posing as an operative of the Economic and Financial Ctomes Commission. Using this persona, he obtained money by false pretence from Dr. Precious Gbeneol, a former Secretary, Health and Human Services Secretariat, Abuja under the guise of helping her to close a supposed case brought against her.
Justice U. P. Kekemeke of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, Apo, Abuja, found him guilty of the two-count charge brought against him by the EFCC amd sentenced him to six months in prison on count one and seven years in prison on count two without an option of fine.
While the sentences are to run concurrently, Justice Kekemeke also ordered that he refund the N880, 000 collected to his victim.

alade112: A 23-year-old unemployed man was, on Wednesday, charged before a Badagry chief magistrates’ court for allegedly stealing a bag of rice. Tijani Dada, address unknown, allegedly stole the bag of rice valued at N13,000 at the Alagbata Market in Badagry. He is facing a one-count charge of stealing before the court. According to the police, the rice belonged to the complainant, Mrs Morenikeji Ajala. “The accused came to the complainant’s shop when she was not around and just took a bag of rice, but he was caught before he could get away,” the police said. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Counsel for the accused, Mr Folabi Smith, pleaded with the court to grant bail to his client on liberal terms. The magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, however, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety, who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government. The case was adjourned till July 27 for hearing.

moneybag100: The UK has voted by 52% to 48% to leave the European Union after 43 years in an historic referendum, a BBC forecast suggests. London and Scotland voted strongly to stay in the EU but the remain vote has been undermined by poor results in the north of England. Voters in Wales and the English shires have backed Brexit in large numbers. The pound fell to its lowest level against the dollar since 1985 as the markets reacted to the results. Labour's Shadow chancellor John McDonnell said the Bank of England may have to intervene to shore up the pound, which lost 3% within moments of the first result showing a strong result for Leave in Sunderland and fell as much as 6.5% against the euro. UKIP leader Nigel Farage - who has campaigned for the past 20 years for Britain to leave the EU - told supporters "this will be a victory for ordinary people, for decent people.
