Jakumo: With due respect to the gentleman claiming to have "invented" the concept of using urine as a raw material for the production of methane, it bears mention that this process has been in use already for decades, in rural areas of China and India, and also in cattle ranches around the United States.

There is nothing magical about the anaerobic fermentation of human sewage or livestock dung to produce methane gas, and all it requires is a sealed fermentation chamber where that sewage is evenly mixed with precise volumes of water, to produce a slurry of the right consistency for the bacterial action needed to generate the methane. That methane can then be piped off for direct use as cooking gas, as is done in China and India, or, the gas can be used to fuel small-scale electrical power generating turbines that significantly reduce the mains electricity consumption of the establishment producing the gas.

Sorry Mr. Nigerian inventor, but you may as well claim to have re-invented the wheel, for all the recognition you will attract.

Now then, at this juncture, I would like to unveil my ingenious new invention of a video camera that sees through women's clothing in order to glimpse the promised land. Thank you Lord. The top-secret invention process involved my internet purchase of a certain discontinued infra-red sensitive video camera that was hurriedly taken off the market a few years back, due to the discovery of its capacity to render clothing invisble. mannet: On Easter friday(Good Friday) while travelling from Abuja to Lokoja,i experienced the worst traffic holdup in the history of Nigeria,started my journey around 11am but arrive lokoja 12am on saturday due to traffic,it was so terrible that all vehicles were on standstill for 10 hours with very slow movement.The roads are so bad,road safety could not do their job,yet the contract for the dualizing of the road has been awarded since year 2000,yet nothing has been done about it,meanwhile it took the federal government one nite to remove fuel subsidy...who is deceiving who? Am glad some senators,few politicians & their escorts were on that same road as we all experience the hell togeda.Pure water was sold for N50/sachet,no food,people drank village well waters,Soji boys on the road had a small party despite the situation,it was realy a terrible xperience & wish not to have it again,i pitied people travelling far east,south or north,this guys might get robbed on their way...hold up was still heavy & standstill whch might not clear till sunday or monday,GOD deliver Nigeria from failed leadership & corruption.If u were on that road too please kindly share your xperience. I was lucky to have escaped on Thursday as the hold-up was beginning to gather momentum. I knew it was going to be HELL. I joined the grid-lock from Kotokarifi village (last town before Lokoja) and spent close to 1 hour 30 mins before I got to Lokoja. (a journey of about 15 minutes)

At a point, them Soldier boys parked many of us for 'wrongful driving' and seized our car keys (my family were in the scotching heat for about 45 mins, while I was running up and down to retrieve back my car key). I don't wish that experience to my enemy.

Abuja — Seven suspected members of a kidnap syndicate accused of complicity in the abduction of one Mohammed Khamis, a United Arab Emirates national, who was lured into the country for a phantom business transaction, were yesterday paraded in Abuja by the State Security Service, SSS.

The suspects reportedly held Khamis hostage for about 60 days at Aboriogun village in Ikoyi town, Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State, feeding him with fruits on the orders of other masterminds who are still at large.

The SSS said it was still on the trail of four other persons identified as the masterminds of the abduction of Khamis whom they lured to visit Nigeria on January 20, 2012 for a ghost business transaction using a fake company, Finuche Investments.

The suspects paraded were Ojo Ibrahim Ajibade, a 29 year-old spare parts dealer; Lamidi Akinkunmi, a 29-year-old video cameraman who also practices voodoo; Olasunkanmi Temitope (a.k.a. Rasky), a 22-year-old saw mill worker and Nuremi Lamidi, another saw mill operator aged 25.

Others are Siyanbade Musibau Olalekan, a 29-year-old plank trader; Jelili Ajagungbade Adeleke (a.k.a. Owuye), a 33-year-old driver; and Saka Kashim, a 27-year-old motorcycle mechanic, who admitted to have taken the hostage on a motor cycle to Ibadan.

Parading the suspects before journalists in Abuja, Deputy Director, Public Relations of the State Security Service, Marilyn Ogar, said all suspects confessed to taking the foreigner hostage and would soon be charged to court while further investigations aimed at tracking and apprehending those at large continue.

Ogar said: "On January 20, 2012, one Mohammed Khamis Majed Ishmael Al Ali, a United Arab Emirates national, who was lured to visit Nigeria for a phantom business transaction by a fake company, Finuche Investments, was abducted by a kidnap syndicate and held hostage for about 60 days at Aboriogun village in Ikoyi town, Isokan LGA of Osun State.

"Upon receipt of the report of Khamis' abduction, this service immediately initiated investigation. However, Khamis was released by his abductors on March 19, 2012 and dropped off in Ibadan.

"Consequently, on March 20, 2012, operatives of the service arrested the following persons aged between 22- 33 years in connection with the abduction."

Ogar, however, did not disclose where the suspected kidnappers were apprehended nor the current whereabouts of the Arab expatriate.

MANY a resident had dutifully used them as prescribed by their trusted physicians and wondered why the drugs failed to deliver on promise, as they did not get any better.

This may well be the reason: No fewer than 84.6 per cent of anti-malarial drugs sold in Lagos State are sub-standard, a research carried out by the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos (UNILAG), on 13 brands of Artesunate-amodiaquine combinations, also known as Artemisin Combination Therapy (ACT), bought from pharmacies in the state has shown.

The researchers found that 84.6 per cent of the drugs failed to meet the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) specifications for one of the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs).

All the 13 brands of ACT tested have the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) registration numbers.

The situation, experts say, raises the risk of treatment failures and resistant strains of the malaria parasite.

The USP Reference Standards are highly characterised physical specimens used in testing by pharmaceutical and related industries to help ensure the identity, strength, quality, and purity of medicines (drugs, biologics, and excipients), dietary supplements, and food ingredients.

The researchers, in the study published recently in African Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, concluded: "Even though there is no case of outright counterfeiting from the results obtained in the study, the potency of the drugs vary considerably. Only 15.4 per cent of the samples studied had required amount of active ingredients for the two drugs.

"It is clear that the quality of most brands of artesunate amodiaquine combined therapy in circulation in Lagos metropolis is less than adequate. This result can be extrapolated for other cities in the sub-Saharan Africa. This poses a great threat to the global effort to combat the scourge of malaria."

The study is titled: "Quality survey of some brands of artesunate-amodiaquine in Lagos drug market."

However, the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and the NAFDAC are divided over the result of the study.

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) -- The rector of Semmelweis University says it is revoking the doctorate of Hungary's president after an investigation found that large parts of his 1992 thesis were copied from other authors.

Rector Tivadar Tulassay says the university's senate voted 33-4 in favor of revocation because Pal Schmitt's dissertation on the Olympic games did not comply with the professional and ethical criteria of scientific work.

Schmitt obtained his degree from the University of Physical Education, since absorbed by Semmelweis University.

Schmitt, whose role is largely ceremonial, will return to Hungary later Thursday from an official trip to South Korea. He said Wednesday that "never for a moment" had he thought about resigning because of the scandal.
