Politics / Suspected Witch Shaves United Methodist Church Pastor’s Hair At Night by youngies(m): 10:33am On Dec 04, 2012
In a witchcraft related case, a United Methodist Church pastor stationed in Uzumba District recently got a hair cut from witches while he was asleep, reports say.

Pastor Teddy Mundondo from Nyamhara village in Uzumba allegedly woke up in the morning, only to find his hair missing. However some gossip mongers are alleging that 3 women are being suspected to be behind this spine-chilling incident.

Pastor Mundondo could neither deny nor confirm the incident but only said he could not divulge his personal problems to the media. He went on to say as a pastor he faces various temptations.

“I can not speak to the media on issues that affect my life or church business. You would rather approach church leaders, not me, for they have the powers to speak on behalf of the church. Do you think it’s nice to publish that a Pastor mysteriously got a bald shave? Why do you want to cause troubles in pastor’s life?” said the man of God.

Prior to getting hold of pastor Mundondo, our news crew had previously approached his wife, Rudo Kanokwiza, who confirmed that her husband got a hair cut at night from unknown people during his sleep. Mai Mfundisi Rudo said the incident took place a few weeks ago after she had visited her rural area in Bocha.

“IT’S TRUE, the incident took place while the Pastor was alone. He said he then visited Mrs (name withheld) where he collected his hair that had been shaved during the night. He also said he dreamt of the whole incident during the night,” said the pastor’s wife.

When reached for comment, the woman who was allegedly found in possession of the pastor’s hair, professed ignorance over the matter.

“A lot of people are calling me with private numbers asking me if it’s true that I gave mufundisi a hair cut in his sleep. All along I didn’t know anything. Another young man who is also a member of our church (name withheld) is the one who revealed to me that people are saying ‘ndakagera mufundisi zuda‘. In fact I was in Harare when the incident took place,” said the woman.

She added: “I hold a leadership position in the church and this is not going down well with the pstor. Next year we were supposed to send him to school, but since he doesn’t socialize well with others, we can’t do that anymore. My children actually want to sue him. On another church member’s funeral (name withheld), this pastor preached about me. He said he shall witness all witches being burnt in hell when the time comes,” said the woman.

However, another villager in the area CONFIRMED that he saw the pastor coming to collect his hair at the woman’s homestead.

“I saw Pastor Mundondo riding his motorbike, arriving at the woman’s homestead. He said he had come to collect his hair. Shortly I saw this woman coming out of the house, carrying a plastic bag containing human hair. Upon being handed over his belongings, the pastor returned to his homestead. If you can, please see also the woman’s neighbour (name withheld). She will bear witness to this incident,” said the man.

Tatenda Makono, who is also the pastor’s neighbour, CONFIRMED the incident.

“I was with the pastor the previous night. In the morning I saw him riding his motorbike with a bald head, heading to this woman’s homestead. When he came back, he was carrying a plastic bag. I couldn’t ask him about it but through the grapevine I learnt about it,” said Makono.

Efforts to get a comment from United Methodist Church Head Office proved futile as the Admin Assistant, Rev Marewangepo was said to be away by the time of going to press.

Politics / Court Reads Ojukwu's Will, Bianca Gets Lion Share by youngies(m): 3:00pm On Nov 30, 2012
The will of the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was on Friday presented to the family with his widow, Bianca, getting the lion's share.

The presentation by the Chief Registrar of the Enugu High Court, Mr Dennis Ekoh, was witnessed by Bianca, Mr Val Nwosu, Ojukwu’s first cousin, and Mr Mike Ejemba.

In the will, the late Ojukwu identified one Tenny Haman as one of his children.

Ojukwu listed the children as Tenny Haman, Chukwuemeka Jnr, Mmegha, Okigbo, Ebele, Chineme, Afam and Nwachukwu.

The Ikemba gave the Casabianca Lodge at No. 7, Forest Crescent, GRA, Enugu, two property at Jabi and Kuje in the FCT as well as all his money and personal effects to his widow.

He also said that Bianca should replace him as the trustee in the family company, Ojukwu Transport Ltd, while also giving her two plots of land in his village at Nnewi.

He, however, added that if she re-married, the land should be taken away from her.

The first son, Emeka Jnr., got the family house at Nnewi, while the newly mentioned daughter, Tenny Haman, got the Jubilee Hotel located in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The Biafran warlord also shared other landed property in the village among all his children.

Ojukwu listed the trustees and executors of the will to include Bianca, Emeka Jnr and Mr James Chukwuneme.

Reacting to the will, Bianca, who is Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, expressed satisfaction with its contents.

``It was a fair will. This time round, he did not disappoint us,’’ she said.

The ambassador, however, expressed shock at the disclosure of a new daughter in the family, whom she said had never been mentioned by her husband.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that none of the children was present at the presentation of the will.

Politics / Ojukwu’s Will To Be Read Today by youngies(m): 8:35am On Nov 30, 2012
The Will left by the late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu will be read today in the Enugu High Court, Daily Sun can reveal. Ojukwu died on November 26 last year in a London hospital. The registrar of the Enugu High Court had during the week directed the Ojukwu family members to come to the court today for the reading of the Will.

According to some legal experts proficient in the writing of Wills, Ojukwu’s Will was expected to put to rest the number of children the Ikemba Nnewi had, as the Will was expected to allocate resources to them.

The reading of the Will, the experts also said was expected to settle some of the problems that cropped up in the Ojukwu family, particularly that of who is his original first son. After the death of the Ezeigbo Gburugburu, Debe Sylvester Ojukwu and Emeka Ojukwu Jnr had risen up to claim to be his first son: “So, it is hoped that when the Will is read today, the late Igbo leader may have laid down some clues on how to resolve this issue.”

It is also hoped that Ojukwu might deem it necessary to state who replaced him in the Ojukwu Transport Company where he served as one of the directors before he died, they guessed.

Besides these two critical areas, the experts said Ojukwu’s eight children would also know the property and other assets bequeathed to them by their father. But as Ojukwu was known not to have amassed wealth when he was alive, the children may not have much to share, more so when Ojukwu returned some of the landed property donated to him back to their original owners.

Politics / Switzerland Wins Best Place To Be Born In The World In 2013, Nigeria Came Last by youngies(m): 4:01pm On Nov 29, 2012
Switzerland is the best place to be born in the world in 2013 - and Britain is just 27th - behind South Korea, the US and Israel, new research shows.

People born in Switzerland will tend to be the happiest and have the best quality of life judged in terms of wealth, health and trust in public institutions.

The Scandinavian countries of Norway, Sweden and Denmark also all make the top five in a 'quality-of-life' index highlighting where it is best to be born next year.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a sister company of The Economist, attempts to measure which country will provide the best opportunities for a healthy, safe and prosperous life in years to come.

Their index links the results of subjective life-satisfaction surveys - how happy people say they are - to objective determinants of quality of life across countries.

One of the most important factors is being rich, but other factors come into play - including crime, trust in public institutions and the health of family life.

In total, the index takes into account 11 indicators.

These include fixed factors such as geography, others that change slowly over time such as demography, social and cultural characteristics, and the state of the world economy.

The index also looks at income per head in 2030, which is roughly when children born in 2013 will reach adulthood.

Small economies dominate the top 10 countries, with Australia coming second and New Zealand and the Netherlands not too far behind.

Half of the top 10 countries are European, but only one, the Netherlands, is from the euro-zone.

The crisis-ridden south of Europe, including Greece, Portugal and Spain, lags behind despite the advantage of a favourable climate.

Interestingly, the largest European economies - Germany, France and Britain - do not do particularly well.

Nigeria has the unenviable title of being the worst country for a baby to enter the world in 2013.

Despite their economic dynamism, none of the BRIC countries - Brazil, Russia, India and China - score impressively.

In 1988 America came top of a rank of 50 countries according to where it would be best to be born in the world.

Politics / Evil Spirit Behind Nigeria’s Darkness, Power Minister Tells SA Investors by youngies(m): 5:57am On Nov 28, 2012
The Minister of State for Power, Hajiya Zainab Kuchi, yesterday told South African investors that evil spirit were behind Nigeria’s darkness preventing the country from taking her pride of place in the comity of Nations.

While addressing members of the African National Congress (ANC), the South African Ruling Party, which led a team of investors to her office in Abuja, the minister said, “We must resolve to jointly exorcise the evil spirit behind this darkness and allow this nation take its pride of peace in the comity of Nations.”

The minister in a statement by the Deputy Director/Head of Press of the ministry, Greyne Anosike, said, “Nigeria needs help, any nation that loves Nigeria must collaborate with it now to resolve her energy crisis...We are getting irritatingly slow.”

She told the delegation that Nigeria has a structured response to her power challenges with a Roadmap it is implementing with care and diligence and asked them to study the power sector roadmap and come up with their specific area of interest, assuring that there were a lot of gaps to be filed in the sector.

The Minister said that work had reached various stages of completion in rehabilitating some of the moribund power stations littering the landscape pointing out that, the revival of the abandoned power projects was critical in lifting the sector as billions of funds had been sunk into them.

“It would amount to lavish diseconomy to embark on new project and abandon the old ones in which huge tax payers resources had been sunk,” she said, and added that she was confident that the present Administration is determined to make a difference in this sector and break the jinx.

Politics / Boko Haram Appoints New Mediators, Issues Letters Of Appointment by youngies(m): 5:41am On Nov 28, 2012
About a month after an alleged faction of Boko Haram announced its readiness to enter into dialogue with the federal government in order to end the bloody sectarian violence in Nigeria, the sect yesterday announced a new team that would speak with the federal government on its behalf.

Already, the sect has commenced issuing letters of appointment to those it selected for the new team.

The sect also said it has replaced former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) with a renowned Islamic cleric, Alhaji Goni Gapchiya, as leader of its negotiation team.

Buhari had turned down Boko Haram’s request for him to head its proposed dialogue team.

We reliably gathered in Maiduguri that notable Borno state elders like Shettima Ali Monguno and Ambassador Gaji Galtimari have received their letters of appointment into Boko Haram’s new negotiation team and equally signed a dispatch sheet to signify their readiness to participate in the mediation.

It was also learnt that a former governor of Yobe state, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, had his letter delivered to him through his wife Hajiya Maryam Bukar Abba Ibrahim, who is a permanent secretary in the Borno state civil service.

Others that were said to have received their letters of appointment were one Justice Zanna Wakil of the Borno state judiciary and his wife Barrister Aisha Wakil.

However, the newly appointed team leader, Sheikh Gapchiya, has not been able to receive his letter of appointment as he is in Saudi Arabia on official Hajj duty.

A copy of the letter, which was written by hand and signed by one Sheikh Abu Muhammed Ibn Abdulazziz, was made available to reporters in Maiduguri yesterday.

The letter simply reiterated the content of the sect’s earlier press conference in which they named the persons as those that could mediate between them and the federal government.

The recipients have all signed a dispatch sheet, suggesting that they have accepted to serve in the committee.

Crime / Woman Who Stabbed Her Husband Claims Jesus And Mary Told Her To Do It by youngies(m): 7:39pm On Nov 27, 2012
A woman who allegedly stabbed her husband said she did it after, “Jesus and Mary told me to kill him because he is Satan’s spawn!” according to a police report.

Police in South Carolina released new details from the Nov. 9 attack, which landed 36-year-old Tammi Estep behind bars and her husband in the hospital, The Smoking Gun reports.

Horry County Police deputies were called to Estep’s residence at approximately 6:45 a.m. on the day of the incident. When they arrived, Estep told officers that “She was sent to save the world,” according to a police report.

Estep’s son told officers that his mother stabbed his father, 43, WPDE reports.

Police transported Estep to the Seacoast MecLeod Hospital, where she was medically cleared to be transferred to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Estep remains in custody with no bail set, according to the county website. She is charged with attempted murder.

Politics / Boko Haram Sends Letter Offering Dialogue by youngies(m): 6:12am On Nov 27, 2012
A purported senior member of Islamist militant group Boko Haram has distributed a letter requesting talks with the government, a day after a double suicide bombing blamed on the sect killed at least 11 and wounded 30 in an army barracks.

The letter, according to Reuters was signed by Sheik Abu Mohammed Ibn Abdulazeez, a man known by security sources to be a sect member but considered to be a moderate.

If the letter is genuine, it would appear to mark a change of tact for the Islamists that fits ill with a spate of violent episodes, including the bombing of the military church on Sunday.

That bombing showed a degree of sophistication not seen from Boko Haram for months.
Nearly 3,000 people have died violent deaths related to the conflict since the sect launched its uprising in 2009, according to a count by Human Rights Watch.

Boko Haram has replaced militancy in the oil-rich Niger Delta over that time to become the biggest security threat to Africa’s top energy producer.

The letter was handed to the national head of the union of journalists, Aba Kakami, who has often received and distributed statements from the sect, usually claiming attacks against high profile targets or warning of them.

Politics / Ebonyi Gov Suspends Attorney General, Two Commissioners For Improper Dressing by youngies(m): 5:28am On Nov 25, 2012
The Ebonyi State Governor, Martin Elechi, yesterday suspended the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Ben Igwenyi, with two other commissioners for improper dressing.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onyekachi Eni, named the two commissioners as Hyacinth Ikpo,

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism and Mr. Chukwuma Nwandiugo, (Works and Transport).

The commissioners were said to have dressed casually to a state banquet organised for the members of the Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) at the Government House on Friday night.

According to the statement, the suspension was for a period of three months. The statement further directed the commissioners not to attend any state function throughout the duration of their suspension.

The governor was said to have been enraged by the commissioners’ lacklustre dressing to the occasion which had in attendance members of SOGON from various states of the federation which seemed to portray a bad image of the state in the eyes of the visitors.

Sources close to Government House revealed that the suspension is without pay, adding that the commissioners have been directed to hand over all government properties in their possession to their permanent secretaries.

When our correspondent visited the official residence of one of the commissioners, hundreds of men and women especially from his hometown were seen in clusters discussing the suspension and a possible solution to the problem.

One of the early callers, Mr. Ifeanyi Chukwu, said the announcement came to them as a big surprise. “Our son since his appointment has been dressing in a manner that portrays him as a man of high integrity. He has represented the state government at many functions and what happened may be a little oversight.”

Science/Technology / Gene Can Predict Likely Time Of Death - Scientists by youngies(m): 6:03am On Nov 20, 2012
Genetic "switches" determine much about our bodies, including hair color, blood type, and susceptibility to certain diseases. Now, researchers believe they have found a gene that regulates something far more eerie: the time of day a person is likely to die.

In an study published in the November 2012 issue of the Annals of Neurology scientists studying the body's biological clock (a.k.a. the circadian rhythm) report the discovery of gene variant that not only determines the likelihood of your being a morning person, but also predicts, with unsettling accuracy, your likely time of death.

The gene typically allows for three possible combinations of nucleotides (the four molecular building blocks of DNA): adenine-adenine (A-A), adenine-guanine (A-G), and guanine-guanine (G-G), according to a written statement released by Harvard Medical School.

"This particular genotype affects the sleep-wake pattern of virtually everyone walking around," Dr. Clifford Saper, chief of neurology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, wrote in the statement. "And it is a fairly profound effect so that the people who have the A-A genotype wake up about an hour earlier than the people who have the G-G genotype, and the A-Gs wake up almost exactly in the middle."

Moreover, investigators realized as some of the 1,200 older subjects in the project died that these nucleotide sequences were accurate predictors of their time of death, within a range of only a few hours. Patients with the A-A and A-G genotypes typically died just before 11 a.m., while subjects with the G-G combination tended to die near 6 p.m.

"So there is really a gene that predicts the time of day that you’ll die. Not the date, fortunately, but the time of day," said Saper.

The Atlantic reports researchers believe their results may be due to the human body reverting to its more natural, circadian rhythm-induced state as death approaches, instead of the cycle created by social commitments.

Religion / Pastors Owning Private Jets Is An Embarrassment – Bishop Mathew Kukah by youngies(m): 6:21am On Nov 18, 2012
The acquisition of private jets by Christian leaders diminishes the moral voice of the church in the fight against corruption, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev Matthew Kukah, declared yesterday.

He spoke against the backdrop of the presentation of a private jet to the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, by members of his church during the celebration of his 40th anniversary in the ministry penultimate Saturday.

Kukah, who was guest speaker at the annual Founder’s Day Anniversary lecture of Providence Baptist Church in Lagos, described exhibition of such opulence by church leaders as embarrassing.

The fiery cleric who spoke on ‘Church and the state in the pursuit of the common good’, said: “The stories of corrupt men and women being given recognition by their churches or mosques as gallant sons and daughters and the embarrassing stories of pastors displaying conspicuous wealth as we hear from the purchases of private jets and so on clearly diminish our moral voice.”

Kukah, who was represented by the Administrator of Holy Cross Cathedral Lagos, Rev. Monsignor Pascal Nwaezeapu, also expressed displeasure with the perceived closeness of the CAN leadership to the corridors of powers.

He said such alliance will weaken the ability of the church to speak the truth to elected public office holders.

According to him: “CAN has become more visible in relation to national prayer sessions, pilgrimages, alliances with state power and so on.

“Unless we distance ourselves, we cannot speak the truth to power. We cannot hear the wails of the poor and the weak. We should not be seen as playing the praying wing of the party in power.”

He challenged the church to speak against corruption in low and high places, saying such responsibility must never be jettisoned for any reason.

Apart from Orisejafor, other church leaders who own private jets include Founder of Living Faith Ministries, Bishop David Oyedepo; General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye; Founder of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Bishop Mike Okonkwo and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy Church.

Family / Husband Okays Wife, Son’s intimate Act In Suleja by youngies(m): 5:50am On Nov 17, 2012
Incest has gained a new height in Suleja, as a man openly acknowledged the existence of a sexual relationship between his wife and son.

Mr. Audu Ibrahim, who lives in Bakassi area in Suleja, said that there was nothing wrong with the affairs between his son and the stepmother.

"I don't want my beloved son to suffer emotionally. Since my wife is his happiness, I'm very pleased with it," he said.

"You can see how busy I am with my job. I do not want an outsider to have an affair with my wife."

His son, 19-year-old Umar, also proudly acknowledges the relationship between him and the stepmother.

"My father lost interest in sex, due to very tight business schedule, some years ago. For many years, she (his stepmother) has been without sex or with little sex." Umar said.

"My dad would go out for business in the morning and the next time he would show up, would be many days after.

"When he eventually came home, he was very tired. It seemed to me that the spark had gone out of my parents' marriage.

"Don't get me wrong, my dad was a loving father and husband also. But the romance that was present at the early state of his marriage was gone," he said.

"So I began to pay my stepmom compliments on her looks, which made her blush. As days passed by, my desire increased to have her in bed.

We gathered that his stepmom, Sophia from Sierra Leone, was also comfortable with the affair, saying that it was due to her "husband's laxity to her toward sex".

"He was content with his business, transcendental meditation and yoga. He seldom revealed his Hot side and when he did, it was more out of his own personal compulsions.

"He had always remained predictable on the bed. He looked so methodical while having sex. He wasn't getting anywhere closer to what I normally expected from him.

"I kept telling lies to him that I had enjoyed his intimacy, as was expected from a typical housewife.

"At 39, it was humiliating to resort to young guys and now I believe my handsome stepson would fulfill my desires.

"But some incidents occurred between me and my own stepson that changed all that. My desire and lust to have sexual relation with my son increased and so I started working to make it true," Sophia said.

Politics / Kogi Lawmaker Loses Teeth In Fight by youngies(m): 7:09am On Nov 16, 2012
There was free-for-all at the early hours of Thursday , with a member of the Kogi State House of Assembly losing two of his teeth at the state governor’s residence when a meeting held to find political solution to the leadership crises in the state Assembly ended in a deadlock.

The meeting held at ‘High Ground’, a private residence of the governor, had former governor Ibrahim Idris, the state governor, Captain Idris Wada and all the lawmakers, except the Speaker, Hon. Abdulahi Bello, who was hospitalised in a private hospital in Abuja, in attendance.

It was a follow-up to an earlier mediation meeting held at Ibro Hotel, Abuja last Monday.
The meeting slated for 9.pm eventually started at about 12.20 am.
But inner sources hinted that trouble started when the agenda of the meeting was perceived to have changed, which did not go down well with the pro-speaker Bello lawmakers.

According to a source, who was present at the meeting: “The meeting which was at the instance of the former governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris was meant to return the House to status quo ante, but when the meeting started, we suspected foul play and as such, we disagreed with their illegal proposition.”

The proposition, according to the source, was that the Majority Leader, Hon. Yunusa Yakubu, should write a letter of proclamation to the Speaker for endorsement and approval so that the Assembly could seat.

Though that would have nullified the initial impeachment, but the grouse was that the Speaker was to resign honourably at the resumed sitting of the Assembly:
“It was that suggestion that sparked the fight.

“The Minority Leader, Yori Afolabi, stood up to note that the suggestion was wrong and that, Kogi had been in the news for so many wrong reasons and there was every reason to first right the wrong before talking about Speaker Bello’s resignation.
“It was at that point that Hon. Friday Makama, who had been pacing around with a bottle of stout attempted to shut him up and that led to the fight,” the source said further.

It was during the melee, a notable member of the group of 12 lawmakers lost two of his teeth before other lawmakers present could separate the warring lawmakers.
Meanwhile, the elders of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who petitioned President Goodluck Jonathan over the state of affairs in the state have been accused of leaving “precincts of truth and probity to traverse the terrain of outright falsehood in order to vilify the administration.”

Religion / Christian Leaders Chide Bakare, Say Nothing Wrong For A Preacher To Own A Jet by youngies(m): 7:27am On Nov 15, 2012
RELIGIOUS leaders and members of the Northern Christian Elders Forum (NORCEF) have criticised Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, over his comments that a revolution would consume religious leaders in the country, just as he condemned the acquisition of jets by renowned Christian leaders in Nigeria.

Reacting to Bakare’s comments, the chairman of the Northern Christian Elders Forum, Evangelist Matthew Owojaiye, said Bakare’s comments should be ignored.

In a similar reaction, Apostle Isa El-Buba, General Overseer of Evangelical Bible Outreach Ministries International, Jos, Plateau State, defended preachers who own jets, concluding that Bakare’s condemnation of these men of God was blasphemous. “There is nothing wrong for a preacher to own a jet. If people in the secular world can acquire jets for chief executive officers of big private enterprises, there is nothing wrong in giving gifts to a man of God of Pastor Oritsejafor’s standing. This is a man of God that travels across the whole world. He deserves what he has been given.”

Similarly, the General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Musa Asake, flayed Bakare, saying: “What is wrong with giving a gift to Pastor Oritsejafor? Did Pastor Oritsejafor embezzle church money? Did he collect somebody’s money? Some people came together and bought it for him so as to ease his work. This is to help him to continue with the work of the gospel. Oritsejafor is a man of God. He is doing everything for the work of God.

“It is a welcome idea. I support people who help ministers of the gospel in their work. He did not go out to lobby for it. It was a surprise for him. I was at that occasion. I saw things myself,” he argued.

President of the Delta State Baptist Conference, Reverend Gideon Oyibo, exonerated Pastor Oritsejafor, saying there was nothing wrong with such gesture.

“The environment influences the way people talk. If you come from a family background of poverty and a member of the family is rich, people will conclude that he is a ritualist. They will conclude that he has stolen money, because in that family, the members do not expect anybody to be rich.

“In Nigeria, we have a traditional environment in which a pastor is expected to operate by our own evaluation. Whenever a pastor is living above our own evaluation, then we can say anything about that person.

“The question we should ask is that: did Pastor Oritsejafor ask for the jet? Did he beg for it? Or was it that certain people gathered together under the leading of God and decided to buy it and present it to him as a gift?

“These ministers of God travel from one place to the other frequently. What is morally wrong if their movement is eased by getting a jet? What is morally wrong if someone gets a car for the purpose of making transportation easy? What is wrong if a pastor is given a jet as a gift so as to contribute to the expansion of the gospel which the Lord has entrusted to his care?” He asked.

However, Archbishop Magnus Atilade called on Bakare to exercise caution in his utterances, especially at this period of the nation’s history, just as he argued that his reactions were not necessary.

“It is not good to reject any gift. What is expected is that once a person is given a gift, then it should be taken and put to the use that it is meant for. If it is not needed, then it can be converted to other things that can help for the work of the gospel.

“I urge Tunde Bakare to exercise temperance in his statements and utterances. Nothing should be condemned outrightly. The Bible kicks against being judgmental. Billy Graham had a means of a private jet which aided him in travelling round the world. If your ministry is as wide as that and you can afford it, then there is nothing wrong with that,” he said.

Politics / How Umaru Dikko’s Kidnap Bid Was Foiled - British Customs Official by youngies(m): 6:39am On Nov 13, 2012
Nearly 30 years after Britain foiled an attempt to kidnap Second Republic Minister of Transport, Alhaji Umaru Dikko, an eyewitness has opened up on how he prevented the influential politician, accused of stealing $1 billion of public funds, from being crated to Nigeria.

British Customs officer, Charles David Morrow, recently told the BBC World Service Witness programme what transpired on that day in 1984 at the Stansted Airport where a Nigeria Airways plane was waiting to freight Dikko.
The former National Party of Nigeria (NPN) chieftain had been drugged and stuffed into a crate for transportation home, preparatory to facing trial for corruption.

Although the then Federal Military Government, headed by Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, had denied involvement in the botched kidnap bid, there were telltale signs of the Buhari junta’s complicity in the kidnap attempt.

Dikko was plucked off the street as he stepped out of his home in an upscale London neighbourhood by a team of Nigerians and Israelis who attempted to kidnap and repatriate him.

The former minister, regarded as one of the most influential members of the cabinet of President Shehu Shagari of the NPN, had fled to Britain in the wake of the military coup, led by Buhari that ousted the administration on New Year's Eve in 1983.

Labelled “Nigeria's most wanted man”, a plot was hatched to get both him and the $1 billion he was accused of embezzling, despite his denial, back.
The plan was to kidnap Dikko, drug him, stick him into a specially made crate and put him on a plane back to Nigeria - alive.

An alleged former MOSSAD agent from Israel, Alexander Barak, was recruited to lead the kidnap team. It included a Nigerian intelligence officer, Major Mohammed Yusufu, and Israeli nationals Felix Abitbol and Dr. Lev-Arie Shapiro, who were to inject Dikko with an anaesthetic.

On a summer's day in 1984, Dikko walked out of his front door in Bayswater, London, and within seconds, he was grabbed by two men and bundled into the back of a transit van.

“I remember the very violent way in which I was grabbed and hurled into a van, with a huge fellow sitting on my head - and the way in which they immediately put on me handcuffs and chains on my legs,” he told the BBC a year later.

The kidnappers switched vehicles in a car park by London Zoo and headed towards Stansted Airport where a Nigeria Airways plane was waiting. They injected Dikko and laid him, unconscious, in a crate.

The Israeli anaesthetist climbed into the crate as well, carrying medical equipment to make sure Dikko did not die en route to Nigeria. Barak and Abitbol got into a second crate. Both boxes were then sealed.
At the cargo terminal of Stansted Airport, a Nigerian diplomat was anxiously waiting for the crates to arrive. Also on duty that day was Morrow.

“The day had gone fairly normally until about 3 pm. Then we had the handling agents come through and say that there was a cargo due to go on a Nigeria Airways 707, but the people delivering it didn't want it manifested,” Morrow said. “I went downstairs to see who they were and what was happening. I met a guy who turned out to be a Nigerian diplomat called Mr. Edet. He showed me his passport and said it was diplomatic cargo. Being ignorant of such matters, I asked him what it was, and he told me it was just documents and things.”

No one on duty at Stansted had dealt with a diplomatic baggage before and Morrow went to check the procedure.

Just then, a colleague returned from the passenger terminal with some startling news. There was an All Ports Bulletin from Scotland Yard saying that a Nigerian had been kidnapped and it was suspected he would be smuggled out of the country.
The police had been alerted by Dikko's secretary who had witnessed his abduction from a window in the house.

Hearing the news, Morrow realised he had a problem on his hands.
“I just put two and two together. The classic customs approach is not to look for the goods, you look for the space,” he said.

“So I am looking out of the window and I can see the space which is these two crates, clearly big enough to get a man inside. We've got a Nigeria Airways 707, which we don't normally see. They don't want the crates manifested, so there would be no record of them having gone through. And there was very little other cargo going on board the aircraft.

“If you want to hide a tree, you hide it in the forest. You don't stick it out in the middle of Essex,” he added

But any cargo designated as a diplomatic bag is protected by the Vienna Convention from being opened by customs officers. So, Morrow got on the phone to the British Foreign Office.

“To qualify as a ‘diplomatic bag’ they clearly had to be marked with the words ‘Diplomatic Bag’ and they had to be accompanied by an accredited courier with the appropriate documentation.
“It was fair to say they had a Nigerian diplomat - I'd seen his passport - but they didn't have the right paperwork and they weren't marked ‘Diplomatic Bag’,” he said.

The decision was taken that the crates could be opened - but it would be done by the book. That required the presence of a Nigerian diplomat, but as Morrow pointed out, one was already on hand. By now, the crates were up on special trolleys ready to be loaded on to the plane.

“Peter, the cargo manager, hit the lid on the bottom and lifted it. And as he lifted it, the Nigerian diplomat, who was standing next to me, took off like a startled rabbit across the tarmac,” Morrow said. “You have to remember we are on an airfield which is square miles of nothing. He ran about five yards (4.5m), realised no one was chasing him and then stopped. Peter looked into the crate and said: ‘There are bodies inside!’”

He parked a forklift truck so its tines lay across the top of the crate so it couldn't be opened. Morrow dialled the emergency number 999.
“My name's Morrow, from Customs at Stansted. We've got some bodies in a crate. Do you think you can send someone over,” he recalled saying.
“They said: ‘Alive or Dead?’

“I said: ‘That's a very good point. I don't know.’
“They said: ‘We'll send an ambulance as well.’”

After half an hour, police started to arrive, and they opened the second crate. Inside they found an unconscious Dikko, and a very much awake Israeli anaesthetist. Dikko was lying on his back in the corner of the crate.

“He had no shirt on, he had a heart monitor on him, and he had a tube in his throat to keep his airway open. No shoes and socks and handcuffs around his ankles. The Israeli anaesthetist was in there, clearly to keep him alive,” recalled Morrow.
The kidnappers in the other crate were unrepentant. They said Dikko was the biggest crook in the world.

The Nigerian intelligence officer and the three Israelis all received prison sentences in the UK.
Diplomatic relations between the UK and Nigeria broke down and were only fully restored two years later.

Dikko was to later return to Nigeria years later and the allegation against him has never been revisited.

Morrow, on the other hand, was commended for actions that day by the head of UK Customs, who described the incident as a “very tricky situation”.

Religion / Hell Breaks Loose In Imo State After Senior Pastor Impregnates Member’s Wife by youngies(m): 2:14pm On Nov 12, 2012
All is not well with Senior Pastor of the God’s Victory Mission in Mbaitoli, Imo State, Pastor John Ohih as, according to reliable sources, he allegedly impregnated the wife of a member of his church.

A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity also revealed that Pastor John has been in the habit of having carnal knowledge of his flocks before his present ordeal. His latest victim, is in her early 30s with six children for her husband.

The source further revealed that the gullible woman got in contact with the Pastor when her mother in-law was ill and somebody recommended the man of God to her. After the healing exercise, the home and church of the Pastor became a regular abode for the woman who we later gathered got pregnant for the cleric.

The source said her husband has vowed to action against Pastor John. What seemed to have infuriated the husband as the source hinted further was the fact that his wife was still nursing an 18 months old baby before she was impregnated by the Pastor.

The shameless woman has since fled her husband’s home, abandoning her 18 months old baby.

Politics / Lagos Sin City Discovered! by youngies(m): 5:08am On Nov 11, 2012
The enclave of Ijora Badia in Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State is a constellation of absurdity. It is indeed a melange of miscreants, roughnecks, gangsters, fraudsters and prostitutes. It is an enclave situated along the railway line that runs from Ijora to Iddo. The environment is filthy with euglena infested brackish lagoon, which harbours dangerous reptiles and breeds mosquitoes in millions. From Ijora bus-stop, a macadamized road that links the bus-stop with Ijora Badia railway line community gives a wrong impression of where it leads to.

On both sides of the link road are shops that display different wares ranging from electronic equipment to clothes, shoes, bags, among other articles of trade. But the end of the link road exposes one to the railway line habitat, which bubbles with a plethora of indecent and unspeakable activities. By the swampy side of the railway are clusters of large wooden cabin suspended up to six feet atop the brackish lagoon. There are several of such accommodation housing half-dressed, haggard, dishevelled, fierce-looking women of all sizes, shapes and ages. In fact, one could rightly say the cabins are brothels on the lagoon.

By 12 noon when this reporter visited the enclave, some of the women, especially the older ones appear worn-out with bulging, sleepy, red eyes, an indication that they must have had a busy night, perhaps also, it’s an indication that business is booming. Even as they intermittently shut their eyes and nod their heads involuntarily as they fight against the sleep trying to envelope them, reliable sources swore they were still ‘ready for action if a customer calls’. For the younger women, most of whom appeared tattered and unkempt, they sat in clusters with their navels on display, as well as their breasts shooting out like balloons.

Although, the sight of those riotous stretch-marked breasts may appear repulsive to any reasonable man, the male folks in the community, who appeared morally depraved and seemed no less better, found such commodity very luscious, salacious and sexually arousing. They also wore skimpy tight skirts and shorts that exposed their thighs up to their pubic region, but like the breasts, such exposures were also very repugnant. This is because instead of robust and succulent thighs that would spark a riotous blood through the sexual veins of any healthy man, who would be anxious to see what is hidden beyond the thighs, what was exposed were coarse, rough, stretch-marked and mosquito bite-infested thighs.

The women in this breast terror, navel and thigh exposure business lined up on the railway line. Both young and old women found breast-pumping the new fad. From investigation, it appeared that any lady that failed to expose her breast in very tempting manner could is seen as a deviant. It is right to conclude that at Ijora Badia, breasts are on parade; there is a breasts’ fair of a sort any time, any day and for any willing viewer. While some displayed their wares in front of the make-shift wooden houses, others step forward at the base of the rail to display theirs while pretending to be recharge card sellers or phone call vendors.

Investigation revealed they have a ready and booming market in the male folk of the community, who are mostly gamblers, drug addicts and fraudsters. Fighting is not a novel occurrence in Ijora Badia neighbourhood. Checks revealed that in Lagos State, the neighbourhood has the highest number of brothels where deviant teenagers, who ran away from their parents’ homes, find solace. The constellation of these young ladies, who have sold their souls to sex, attracts criminals in the neighbourhood. They are belligerent, testy, violent and can do anything, including stripping themselves naked to vent their anger.

Foreign Affairs / Kenyan Mother Names New-Born Twins Barack & Mitt by youngies(m): 6:29am On Nov 08, 2012

Election enthusiast: Millicent Owuor, 20, holds her newly born twin boys named after U.S. President Barack Obama, left, and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, right.

Motherly love: Owuor rests with new-born children Barack Obama, left, and Mitt Romney, right, inside the maternity ward of Siaya District Hospital, near Obama's ancestral home village of Nyangoma Kogelo.

A Kenyan mother has named her new-born twins after US President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger Mitt Romney, the BBC reports.

Millicent Owuor, 20, gave birth to the twins in south-west Kenya on the day Obama was re-elected.

A short distance from the hospital, at the Obama family’s ancestral village, people were celebrating his victory.

“I named the first twin Barack and the second one Mitt,” Owuor was quoted by Reuters as saying.

Owuor posed for photographers on Wednesday at the Siaya District Hospital with her twin boys.

She said she had named her twins after the winning and losing US presidential candidates in order to remember the day of the vote, Kenya’s Standard newspaper reports.

The US president’s father was born in Kenya and his step-grandmother, Sarah Obama, still lives in the village of Kogelo.

The residents of Kogelo sang and danced after Obama was declared the winner.

“The reason why he has won is because God has given it to him,” said Sarah Obama, who turns 90 this year.

“Secondly, he has got the knowledge to love all people, he doesn’t have the knowledge of division, that is why he has won.”

Barack Obama senior died in a road accident in Kenya in 1982.

Foreign Affairs / Obama's Victory Spells Trouble For Israel's Netanyahu by youngies(m): 2:45pm On Nov 07, 2012
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces an even more awkward time with Washington and re-energized critics at home who accused him on Wednesday of backing the loser in the U.S. presidential election.

With Iran topping his conservative agenda, Netanyahu will have to contend with a strengthened second-term Democratic president after four years of frosty dealings with Barack Obama and a rift over how to curb Tehran's nuclear program.

Facing his own re-election battle in January, polls give Netanyahu little chance of losing but perceptions that he has mishandled Israel's main ally have been seized on by opponents.

"I will continue to work with President Obama to ensure the interests that are vital for the security of Israel's citizens," Netanyahu said in a short, congratulatory statement hailing what he called strong strategic relations with Washington.

But in remarks underscoring a rift with the United States over possible Israeli military action against Iran, Netanyahu said in an interview broadcast on Israel's Channel 2 this week: "If there is no other way to stop Iran, Israel is ready to act."

Relations between Netanyahu and Obama hit a new low two months ago after the Israeli leader said nations which failed to set "red lines" for Iran - which denies seeking atomic arms - did not have the "moral right" to stop Israel from attacking.

Such comments, along with financial backing for Republican candidate Mitt Romney from a U.S. casino magnate who is also one of Netanyahu's biggest supporters, were seized upon by critics as evidence the Israeli leader was trying to undermine Obama.

Netanyahu denied he was interfering in U.S. politics.

But former Israeli ambassador to Washington, Sallai Meridor, suggested that Obama would not easily forget that Netanyahu had created a perception that Israel wanted Romney to defeat him.

Obama is "very strategic, very disciplined", Meridor said during a panel discussion on the U.S. election at the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv.

"But I don't think we can just assume that what happened between them over past four years will have just evaporated," he said. "When people fight for their political life and have the perception that their partner is trying to undermine their chances, it's not going to disappear."

One of the Israeli prime minister's own leading coalition allies, Eli Yishai of the religious Shas party, said simply: "It's not a very good morning for Netanyahu."

Health / Castrated Men Live Longer - Experts by youngies(m): 1:01pm On Nov 05, 2012
Castrated men tend to live much longer than fully endowed men, according to a new study published in Current Biology, that could offer clues on how to extend the male lifespan.

Experts say possible negative consequences of castration include “decreased libido, depression and loss of physical strength.

Researchers say eunuchs lived 14 to 19 years longer than other men
did. Three even lived to 100 or more, a feat of longevity that remains relatively rare among men even today.

Castration allegedly extends lifespan by reducing male sex hormones - testosterone is known to increase the incidence of coronary heart disease and reduce immune function in males.

Due to this immune function suppression, eunuchs could be better able to resist infections and are less prone to physically dangerous situations that could put them at risk.

The researchers plan to examine the lifespan of eunuchs in other cultures, but few expect young men to willingly undergo castration in order to have lengthier lives.
