Music/Radio / Re: Na Wa 4 9ja Music Video by YourFather: 7:03pm On Aug 04, 2008
That is just BS, a first class in UEL can't be compare to a 2nd class in Oxford. Naija vids have been poor mainly as there is a unique lack of funds. I mean how much do the American acts spend on vids, how much do they make with a hit single. This almost as dumb as comparing Nollywood to Hollywood. Nollywood is brilliant for what it is, a movie industry in an economy that can't support block-busters, but some people will still talk down on it, why don't they shoot better, maybe its because they can only make so much from a film.

9ja videoes have improved and I do think they are now on the right track, there is a bit more money in the industry and people are getting more creative.

CP is doing a fantastic job shooting in Nigeria, Durella's Shayo is a good example.
Music/Radio / Re: Kini Big Deal ! Is It The Next Big Thing ? by YourFather: 12:30pm On Aug 04, 2008
Tundewood was just trying to let everybody know that NC aint poor, congrats. Thats the problem with Storm records, they are too busy trying to let everyone know how rich they are, that they miss the point. Storm is probably the richest record company in Naija, but what exactly have they done for the music, NOTHING.

Sales records, are you kidding me, I wake up in the morning and I make up a figure, prove me wrong, really stop all that crap.

I LOVE KINI BIG, its an excellent rap song, chorus was on point and the flow was cool. BTW Jzay didn't come up with that flow, so quite frankly, anyone can use it, just do it well.

So Storm is rich, and the only real hit they have on their records is Kini big deal, instead of over hyping the one good song they have, they should start thinking of how to make the next one.

Olayokun, I don't like the song, shoot me!!

I hope he does come out with another and hopeful it will be better than this, I know it is not easy making music, so if I sound like I am player hating, I am sorry. I just think he can do better, and I do wish him all the best. This life is hard enough without hating.

God bless you all.

Music/Radio / Re: Who Are We Fooling? Nigerian Music by YourFather: 2:53pm On Jul 25, 2008
@Bamsyle

Let me start by saying, you are someone I have come to appreciate his point of view. On this issue however, we have a gap here, be it little, I do understand where the poster is coming from, maybe labeling it culture was the mistake, because what is the Nigerian culture that would appeal to the record buying and show going 9ja people of today?

If we are talking about music acts living a lie through their vids, by representing something they are not, then that is not going to stop soon, as we live in a Culture that finds it ok, I for one don't.

There can be no substitude for being real.

But the fact is, if the public accepts it and build people up on that, the trend will go on.

In another place and another time, Psquare will not exsit, they will be told to go and find who they are and then come back, they are now one of the biggest stars in 9ja.

When we all start loving Nigeria the way we should, things will change including vids, at the moment it is what it is.

Actually, it does matter what you put in your video, come to think of it, all this idiots that don't know their history, putting this white girl and that white girl, because they feel its make them look better, are nothing but fools, but having a garget driven vid, or one that looks like it was shot in an American studio, doesn't take away from our culture.

Even the TV stations choose what to show love to. When I saw the Durella video, In the Zanga, i thought nice, this would be loved, but no, people seem to want the bling, the cars, what they see on the American vids.
Music/Radio / Re: Clarence Peters Is Takin Over by YourFather: 7:22pm On Jul 24, 2008
The person that directed Durella's Shayo as to be brilliant, i am constantly looking out for his work.
Music/Radio / Re: Who Are We Fooling? Nigerian Music by YourFather: 6:37pm On Jul 24, 2008
Ok guys I have to weigh in on this.

First of, I can bet my bottom pound on it that everyone on this tread was wearing something that was influenced by non Nigerians, be it a Rocawear t-shirt, a TM shirt or a pair of Tom Wolfe jeans, typing on a non Nigerian computer.

So you then have to ask, what is being Nigerian, it can't definately be the cars we drive (German, Japaness), or the TV we watch, or the fridge we chill our drinks with.

Being Nigerian would have to be our hearts, our pride, the way we sing, most of, our mentality.

A nice house in Nigeria has more foreign influence than a Dollar bill, really, when you enter someone's house in Nigeria that you think is impressive, it is not uncommon to say, "oh this could easily be in jand".

We need to get real. Nigerians grow up watching block buster film, watch MTV, dress MTV, so what do you think sets the standards for their videos?

So far they ask you where you are from, and you say I am Nigerian, the land of kings, home of history, where river B and river Niger meets, you are Nigerian, repping! And it doesn't matter what you wear, drink or have in your videos.
Music/Radio / Re: Naeto C's U Know My P by YourFather: 6:19pm On Jul 24, 2008
Still waiting for my copy, but I do like Kini big deal, I just hope the album lives up to that.
Music/Radio / Re: Sasha P - The Only One (video) by YourFather: 6:18pm On Jul 24, 2008
Naija don tire me ooh.

There nothing wrong with this vid,

Concept: Sasha is a bad girl that you can't impress easily, hence the different types of guys in the vid, who think they can impress her, and she is saying it takes more than the effizy!

over all execution, its spot on.

Its a cool vid to an average song,

Creatively driven videos like Durella's Shayo, only come around once in a blue moon, so go easy on Sasha P!!!
Music/Radio / Re: Durella's Shayo Video - Link inside by YourFather: 11:38pm On Jul 23, 2008

Music/Radio / Re: D'banj And Durella by YourFather: 8:30am On Jul 15, 2008
kingdong, beautiful piece, but it lacks one, one Major fact, and that is time.

You mention the package been poor, can you rewind back to when D'banj, 2face and co started and then compare?

Durella is been packaged, one day at a time, really, from in the zanga to now, are you saying his profile hasn't risen?

When we look at the over all picture and ask, how many acts have come this far in this short a time, I will leave you to answer that.

Durella will be the biggest act in Nigeria, quote me on this.
Music/Radio / Re: Dj Tee Vs Clarence Peters. by YourFather: 10:35pm On Jul 14, 2008
Lets give what is onto Dj what is his, Dj Tee definately was/is part of the Naija Video movement, so I give him his props, but in terms of ground breaking vids, its got to be CP, I mean Durella Shayo, still the most creative vid to hit Naija, there is no two ways about it.

Concept = A++
Look = A++
Execution = A++
Performance = A++

CP is heavy no doubt.

Music/Radio / Re: D'banj And Durella by YourFather: 11:22pm On Jul 12, 2008
james, I guess you measured his talent right? People just type without any brain function really!!! play them back to back and the difference is so clear its 7up. Durella has more talent in his little toe than anyone out there, just bloody wait and see. Infact dont wait, dont see, carry on with your little lives and see how much the hate brings you.
