Your goal for the next one year after moving should be to survive.

Accommodation
Look for a cheap accommodation on the outskirts of a big city preferably uyo or eket. This would keep you close to the action even with a budget.
Pay attention to utility services before choosing a place. Road network, power supply and internet connections as these would greatly affect your standard of living.

Work.
Avoid jumping into any business.
Take the year to learn about your environment to know what business or skill would thrive in the environment.
Get a job immediately even if it is a teaching job. Your goal here is cash flow.
Jump jobs quickly in the beginning even if it is for an extra 5k as your goal here is to spend only what you earn.
Your next target after that would be to break even at N1m then you can start thinking about a business or investment.

You have chosen to suffer so over the next one year, actually discipline yourself to the suffering.
Cook your meals.
Avoid late nights.
Avoid gambling.
Avoid women (caveat: unless you get lucky & get a good one)

Read.
Learn.
Exercise.
It eventually makes sense

Please, anyone know of any available resource that could probably for university scouting especially as deals with kind of funding and score requirements. I don't even know where to begin and the number of schools in the US is quite intimidating

the point is the 28 day period should be oldest ending dec 1.
Meaning u can use a statement started in nov that ended dec 1. So ur statement mustn't have been printed more than one month. If its older than one month, get a newer one. Pls let me know if u understand or i can explain better

Your profile is set as it is. You know the cliché; Strong SOPs, good LORs etc and you are good. Stanford is a real hard sell but the other 2 schools are achievable. Like most people said, add more schools to that list like UIUC, Washington state, Colorado Boulder etc (of that cadre). Everything really is not about rankings. When you get here, you will know why. Good day boss. I have my gre scheduled for next month and TOEFL for December. Already paid for Wes and processing my transcript.

My major issue has been with school selection. Like you advised, I really don't care about the standing of the school. In fact, I think I am more interested in the calibre of city than that of school. Can you help with a few suggestions to schools where my chances are good for funding. I am looking at 10 schools.

Also, is it advisable to apply directly for PhD without any published article. I am looking at industrial engineering and have like 3 years core experience. GPA - 4.07/5. Hopefully, my gre/TOEFL scores are also good

First, go to a standard driving school and learn how to drive and use the road appropriately.
Then, come back here and ask me personally for a car to get as a first timer.

Life is in stages. You first learn how to sit, then how to crawl, followed by how to stand then finally how to walk.
It’s when you know how to walk that the others like running, jumping, squatting, jogging etc follows.

So, take your driving lessons first, pass and get licensed then getting a first car follows.
