Tundeom: Hello, Everyone.
Happy New Year!
I just thought to post this for anyone living with Sickle Cell Anemia and might be worried about medicals. Do not panic or worry, you will pass medicals as long there are no other complications aside having Sickle Cell. Pls, disclose your genotype to the nurse/doctor when you go for your upfront medicals and be ready to answer some follow up questions. Be sincere!
I could not find lot of information on this, and it gave me anxiety. I asked here and I got some words of encouragement last year (Thank you, all).
Anyways, I got MEP/BIL on the 14/01/2021.
I sincerely wish everyone on this journey the very best. We shall testify soon. Cheers! |

Aphrodite007: You can cut it down to 6 years not 8; if you get a job immediately after you graduate. Make sure you start applying (for graduate or entry level jobs) as soon as you land. Put your MSC “in view” on your CV. If you’ve got experience, even better. Lots of engineers I know do project management, but I’ll advice throwing in HSE/Nebosh certifications (I don’t know if they are the same lol); I know an Engr that’s doing well and he has a HSE.
Food: pack some noodles crayfish no red oil (not worth the stress) dry fish (your house mates will hate the smell) egusi (please grinded!) Maggie (important!!) dry pepper (importanter!!) no need for more than 2 pasta (it’s cheap here, but you might not want to shop when you get here) kilishi (if you like it) garri (I don’t eat this stuff) small sugar 1 pack of powdered milk (Milo too if you like) fry some meat (don’t try this if your destination is Heathrow) Some dried veggies for your egusi soup Amala powder/poundo (small please) Beans (not much, the one here gets done quickly)
Put all these in your luggage o! Maggi? No maggi over there?? |

abimbola74: In case of emergency, the nurses should fill in whenever the doctor is not around nah Some do. But be ready for wahala. So to avoid wahala, they just stay off. I don't pray I have a course to have a relative admitted into a Nigerian hospital. |

vickyehi: Anyways I pray all those trying to Migrate from one place to another finds favour in all our applications.
Before I left naija, I vowed to myself that I wont be one of those "aunty wey mumu" that you would ask how she migrated and she would tell you ....."it was just prayer and grace of God, I dint even know what happened".....mtchewwwww.
I told myself that I may not have cash to distribute but along my journey I found out that knowledge is power and indeed many Nigerians perish for lack of knowledge.
I also said I wont be one of those people telling you that abroad na just suffer. Yes you would work hard and frankly you would be payed as hard as you work. What you safe from that depends on your responsibilities back home and your life style.
All those aunties and uncles shouting that USA or Canada or even the UK is hard, have you ever seen them return back home to save their self the so called hardship?
People that return back to Nigeria either have "surname", have made it big and want to invest in a business or the country dey pursue them.
So my people dont be discouraged. Speaking for Canada, it's better to work here as a health care aide or even janitor than to be in that catholic hospital or federal hospital self in naija. That's as far as income is concerned. E for Energy!!! |

Focusmind: Make enquiries, there are some establishments that are into nursing education in Nigeria like some of the Catholic owned big hospitals. I mentioned the two that I am aware of in Anambra state.
Our Lady of Lordes Hospital, Ihiala, St. Charles Borromeo Hospital Onitsha. Then we have the one owned by the Anglican church, Iyi-Enu Hospital, Ogidi also in Anambra
These are certificate programs in nursing that could last from six to eighteen months with certificates issued to you and not degree. Some could use them to seek for direct entry to Universities.
There are also federal school of nursing owned by the federal government. Research and find the states we have those kind of federal school of nursing. Wrong information. Nursing is 3 years minimum in Nigeria. Except you want to go for quackery nursing in all these stupid private hospitals where you will do "freedom" and be a slave for life. Your cert will only be useful in Private hospitals and u will be be used as slaves and paid maximum of 30k. They are called Nurse Eliza, Nurse TiTi or auxillary nurses aka quacks. Please only accredited nursing schools should be patronised and the duration is 3 years. Our Lady of Lordes Hospital, Ihiala, St. Charles Borromeo Hospital Onitsha. Then we have the one owned by the Anglican church, Iyi-Enu Hospital, Ogidi also in Anambra all are accredited nursing school with 3 years duration. The only people who do 18 months are basic midwives who have done 3 years basic midwifery course and want to become nurses. . Let's give proper information please. |

Cousin9999: There's a nursing shortage throughout the Caribbean.
If you're not quite ready to go to the US or UK, it could be a stepping stone, or you just might decide to settle there. Your racism all over Nairaland is incredibly amusing. I saw what you did there. |
