Politics / Sanitizing Nigerian Military by yusufidoko: 7:54am On Oct 12, 2023
SANITIZING NIGERIAN MILITARY

Recent events suggest that the hitherto high profile and respectable military noble integrity and professionalism is dwindling.

Those of us who loves the military more than a french love Paris or more than a Palestine loves Gaza are really deeply disturbed with the nosediving integrity of the proud-chosen profession.

I am not here to pinpoint all the naked internal and regimented wickedness associated with the revered profession; which has caused so many unquantifiable human assets to bow out prematurely.

What is so worrisome in contemporary terms is the level of involvement of our past top Generals, past Service Chiefs and even CDS involvement in thievery of military and National treasure.

We are witness to the flagrant ignominy that have visited us within this modern democracy. We are witness on how our top Generals are regularly implicated in massive corrupt enrichment.

We watch as a powerful CDS was unashamedly handcuffed and paraded into court rooms by 'bloody civilians' in EFCC. Imagine a whole respected four-star General disgraced.

The list of Generals and retired Generals associated with looting is endless. The Dasuki Gate readily comes to mind.

Today, the generality of Nigerians see military within a corrupt spectacle! So shameful. Yet the thievery keeps ongoing! Just yesterday, a two-star General was sentenced to seven years imprisonment and to refund more than N3 billion.

Every patriot feels so ashamed with the despicable repugnant mess from these trusted personalities. How did we even come to this state of overnight corruption that has polluted the military integrity with such new normal financial abominations? What a calamity on the Nation!

As it is right now, nobody can state categorically and convincingly that the military veterans SDA was not tempered with; going by the heartless current payment structure of SDA.

Despite the relentlessness and doggedness of SDA Technical Committee, all what military veterans got is a heartless, insensitive and prolonged payment of SDA, which is expected to be paid once, in line with its philosophy. Nigeria is perhaps the only country where SDA is paid like meal tickets!

The consequences of these financial atrocities are not farfetched. The low level trust on our Generals, both serving and retired are abundantly evident. If the Generals are deficient of trust, who then do Nigerians trust. The other horrendous consequences, as we all know is the low morale and fighting spirit of frontline combatants and the mind-blowing casualties, thereof. Nigerians are fastly loosing confidence in the military

The recent appointment of NSA, a crime fighter who has neither experiences in security nor any war experience lends credence to the mistrust on military top brass. In a Nation prosecuting a deadly terrorists war, the NSA should have been a counter-terrorists or war-tested General. But, due to low level trust on the military Generals, both serving and retired, a retired crime fighter was appointed an NSA. What a massive psychological onslaught on the military!

Today, an information regarding the intended FG palliative rented the air and some veterans were attempting to tear their clothes because MPB was not involved. Conundrum of Hocus-pocus! Perhaps, we want the palliative to be paid quarterly, too, like the SDA.

It is my considered opinion that the current direct dealing with military veterans is a fallout of the dwindling trust on our military top brass! You think they are not aware of the SDA saga? I will not be surprised to wake up one to find out that MPB is headed by a civilian.

Obviously, the revered Nigerian military is in a socioeconomic crossroad....and unless something drastic is done urgently, pigs will start flying around!

The action of the court-martial that recently awarded the Maj Gen with imprisonment and refund of parts of his loots is commendable. It is a commendable internal mechanism to sanitize the system but what happens if a higher ranking and influential officer like the Service Chief or even the CDS is involved? Who will try and prosecute a Service Chief?

I humbly recommend that Nigeria's military authority start a thorough, highly spirited ablution, genuine restitutions and image laundering to regain her lost glory.

Specifically, the current arrowheads in the military should first render unreserved apologies to the Nigerian citizens for the financial abominations perpetrated by past military officers and then strategize on a thorough ablution, restitutions, rapprochement and massive social media and mainstream media sensitization of a born-again Nigerian military with the sole aim of regaining her lost glory.

Remember that Military is the Strength of the Nation.

Politics / Nigeria Veterans Have Been Sold Out By Ministry Of Finance by yusufidoko: 10:43am On Dec 15, 2022
*SDA REPORT - WE HAVE BEEN SOLD OUT!!*
15th December, 2022

1. When, after waiting a long (frustrated) hour as a military man, a civilian look you in the face and tell you "Oga, you will have to wait, I am busy," know that, it is finished! You have been sold so cheaply by an In-house member of the same family of your professional constituency. If you are given a responsibility to function in an office, that position is entrusted on you to proof your mettle of administrative competency. It is obviously not a time to sit in the comfort of your cosy office without functioning optimally as it is required of a patriotic citizen fit for that position.

2. Five whole hours of waiting, and in the end, one of the office staff walked in to the 'VIP lounge' to tell you, "Oga don go oo!" You look at yourself, very dejected and disrespected, not because of your person, but because you are a representative of the entire military veterans community whose membership cuts across the ranks, and then you walk out quietly and ordered for an Uber, and while you boarded the cab in such an isolated area at around 2200 hrs, not knowing who the pilot of the cab is, wether he is a ritualist, a kidnapper or an armed robber, and suddenly, your phone rang, you take a look at the the screen and lo and behold, the same individual who gave you an appointment the previous day and the day after, but didn't keep to it was the one calling. What would be your reaction? Indeed, the Veterans Community have been sold out in what the local palance would refer to as "See finish." Calling me for what, you'd ask. Such was my experience.

3. Some (not all), of these corrupt Civil Servants occupying exalted offices have no regards for people that are not their partners in crime. The ministry of finance is a den of multifaceted and monumental corruption. Recall the experience of the immediate past MPB Chairman in the hands of these bloody corrupt and unprofessional characters when he went seeking for Cash Backing for the now rested pension harmonization? Most recently was the experience of the incubent MPB Chairman whose story was told by a Senior official of the Board, that the Very Senior Officer literally went on his knees over the release of Cash backing for the just concluded minimum wage arrears. He did that because the Veterans Community had taken a swipe to question his responsibility for occupying that office. How did we get here?

4. NDC was usually our meeting point from where we proceed on our scheduled assignments as Technica team for the SDA. But on this occasion the SDA Technical Committee leader, Air Cdre Femi Oguntuyi mni, Rtd, opted to interface with some service chiefs as well as some very influential individuals just so we could have a soft landing without necessarily resorting to confrontation with our common enemies. Having been given the marching order by the team leader, he said "Biodun, you know what to do, but please keep me posted." And so, I proceed to accomplish my task, the 5th floor, office of the Perm Sec, MoF was the destination.

5. I got there and straight to the secretary who instantly told me that my host was in a meeting. I was subsequently directed to the VIP's lounge where I met the space filled with guests waiting for their turn. Among them was a very familiar face and was soon called upon to see the Perm Sec with his team of white men. I was later to be told of his identity. His name is Mustapha Yar'adua, younger brother to the late President Umar Musa Yar'adua as well as late Gen. Shehu Yar 'adua. The look-alike face is unmistaken. Very humble. On his way out, he came back to the VIP's lounge and bade everyone goodbye with a handshake.

6. Moments later, some visitors who came after me were ushered in, I wasn't bothered, thinking that, my case was special and may require exhaustive deliberation to avoid the MoF coming under locks and keys by members of the Veterans Community, but I was wrong. Time was ticking as I was left with two other men who also became upset. I then put across a call to my host, at least to remind him of my presence, in case he was too busy to remember, but no response. How could he have even forgotten, with all the CCTV cameras mounted at every corner of the VIP's lounge? That's what Dr. Abubakar Kana mni will never do. I waited a little while. Moment later, I walked up to the Secretary to remind her of my presence for close to 5 hours and on an appointment. She said she already told boss I was around. I went back to the VIP's lounge. About 15 minutes after, one of the staff walked in to announce that the Perm Sec had left.

7. I wasn't even bothered by the neglect meted out to me. What is more painful and unacceptable is the disrespect of not my person, but the community I represent. These are surviving World/Civil War Veterans, Senior, Very Senior Officers including retired Generals, the sick, helpless and vulnerable amongst us, who by their sweat and blood, have kept this Nation united and have provided the enabling environment for democracy to thrive without which some of these characters will not have the opportunity to sit in any capacity to function as public or Civil Servants. And to think that we have been unofficially Commissioned to fight for our welfare, when we have an appointed minister from our very own constituency, who will not do enough to consult directly with his colleague at the ministerial level would only mean one thing. WE HAVE BEEN SOLD OUT!

8. In the next 24 hours, we shall come up with adequate plans to confront and bring to an end, the ugly trend of disrespect to our collective welfare and general well-being. Consequently, an object have been sighted, bearing MoF, location, the heart of Abuja. That is our destination. We must go back and take our pride of place as the number one stakeholders in a sovereign Nation as ours. Veteran's Community in Nigeria must be treated with respect like it is the practice in any sane clime. We have by all means exploited every avenue for peaceful resolution as we are known to always have. Just like we did in the case of the MoD, we have written and also followed up with a reminder letter to the MoF, but all has been ignored. We cannot continue like this. Enough is enough!

God Bless the (military) Veterans Community!
God Bless the Federal Republic Of Nigeria!!

Politics / Memoir Of Capt Effiong During Peace Enforcement. by yusufidoko: 5:27pm On Aug 26, 2022
THE LIBERATION OF FREETOWN IN 1999, I PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE
I just came back from a border patrol duty with my colleagues from Igboho and Kisi areas of Oyo State, Nigeria when my Battalion Chief Clerk showed me a signal releasing me to attend my A1 Recce Weapons Instructors Course at the Armoured Corp Centre and School (ACCS) Bauchi State.
While preparing to a get a pass from the duty clerk at the orderly room to enable me travel to Bauchi State for the course, there was an alarm (called double sound in the military) which compelled me to rush to the parade ground as our tradition in the military demands. There at the parade ground, an instruction was given by the Commanding Officer (CO), Colonel Moses Obi who later retired as a General that we were going to Sierra Leone to help our troops on the ground there liberate Freetown because the rebels have taken over the nation capital and they were occupying the State House ( The Presidential Building).
We just left Freetown 12 months ago when we went to counter the military coup that ousted the democratically elected government of Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Tejan Kabbah by the military junta led by Major Johnny Paul Koroma. It took us 72 hours from the day we were briefed at the parade ground by our CO to the day we took off at the Ilorin International Airport in Kwara State to Freetown.
When about a thousand troops selected from 244 Recce Battalion Saki, 222 Mechanized Infantry Battalion Ilorin and 231 Tank Battalion from Kanji boarded Kabor Air at the Ilorin International Airport for onward movement to Freetown, inside the plane was as quiet as a grave yard, already we got an information that the enemy forces were advancing toward the Lungi International Airport in Sierra Leone.
An airborne officer on board the plane having realised the placed was too quiet, shouted MORALE! But only few solders responded. At that point, the Battalion Commander, Colonel Moses Obi thundered from where he was seated, ARE YOU GOOD TO GO? At this point, every soldier on board chorused WE ARE GOOD TO GO, GOOD TO GO, GOOD TO GO and the plane took off.
After about three hours or more in the sky, we landed at the Lungi International Airport in Sierra Leone and as we touched the ground, we were air lifted by military helicopters to the Sierra Leone Defence Headquarters where we were later conveyed with military trucks to the Wilberforce military barracks in Freetown.
At the Wilberforce barracks, the Commanding Officer addressed us and asked us to wait for General Maxwel Kobbeh for the last instruction. Not too long, the Nigerian General who was also appointed the commander of the Sierra Leone army arrived with heavy escort. While addressing us, General Kobbeh specifically mentioned that he particularly requested that we should be brought back to liberate Freetown because between 1997 and 1998, we were in Freetown and we fought and pushed out the military junta together and he was very confident that we the best people for the job because we understood the terrain better.
We were highly motivated, because the 15 minutes’ address by the General was a morale booster. He assured us that he was going to advance with us until we chase out the junta and the RUF rebels from Freetown. About 200 metres from the Wilberforce barracks was a bridge adjacent the Sierra Leone International Stadium that we must cross before advancing to the city.
At this time, nobody was found in the street exception of dead bodies and vultures feeding on them, and wandered dogs were our best friends. As the leading section RPG man, my paratrooper friend, Lily Diepireye was beside me with his General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG). We sighted some pocket of enemies around the international stadium area and my company commander ordered me to drop a bomb there. And immediately I launched a high explosive Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bomb, and my airborne friend Lilly fired his GPMG, the enemy forces replied us with the same RPG bomb and from there the music began.
We were firing all through the night and even sleep respected itself that night because it did not come close to any of us as we held our location till the breaking of the day. At about 5:00 HRS the following the day, we continued to advance using three main roads leading to the state house of Sierra Leone that was already occupied by the enemy forces.
Around 13:00HRS, we were in front of Nigeria House that was next to the American Embassy just beside the Iroko tree that stands in between the US Embassy and the State house. After a while, we launched all round attack and captured the state house with enemy forces trapped in the presidential building. We quickly deployed ourselves and moved in to comb everywhere for the bad boys. I took some soldiers with me to the last floor of the state house and we saw about two rebel soldiers with their weapons running away from us. We shouted at them to stop because there was nowhere for them to escape from us, and our intention was to capture them alive to get information from them, but they decided to jump from the last floor and killed themselves.
About one hour later, some rebel forces came from one big hotel directly opposite the state house and attacked us from behind and we were forced to withdraw from the state house building and some of us pinned down in front of the American Embassy. While our troops withdrew and pinned down near the Nigeria House. Three of us who were with GPMG took cover by the half walls under the iroko tree in front of the US Embassy to slow the rebels down from attacking our troops. We were Michael Aniema, Gregory Akuruk and I.
We had enough boxes of 7.62mm rounds that we captured from the rebels and three of us were with GPMG each. After a while, Michael Aniema asked us to pull out, but I knew if we did, the rebel forces would have upper hand, so we kept engaging. And the next thing I heard was boooom, and everywhere went blank, and I was like a deaf and dump person because I lost consciousness. Few minutes later, I heard Gregory Akuruk shouting to Michael Aniema saying, THAT RPG BOMB DON KILL OGA EFFIONG and it was difficult for them to come and carry me or the GPMG, so Michael Aniema pulled out.
As God would have it, I gained consciousness immediately, and as I looked toward the state house direction, I saw a rebel soldier running towards my location to pick the GPMG, thinking I was dead. Unfortunately to him, I still had enough rounds and a long chain of ammunition on my Machine gun. So I played Shakabundu Samba for him and he danced for about 30 seconds before dropping on the ground. Then Gregory and I pulled out to join our people who were already planning the next action in front of the Nigeria House.
In a twinkle of an eye, ECOMOG trucks arrived from the Wilberforce barracks with enough support weapons, bombs, ammunition and food. So we relaunched another attack and recaptured the state house and took many prisoners of war. The task given to Colonel M Obi, the CO of 244 Battalion in Freetown by General Kobbeh was to advance from the Wilberforce barracks to the city and capture the state house and make it his battalion headquarters which we did in 72 hours of arriving Sierra Leone.
As we took over the state house, our men were deployed for all round defence. We occupied Shaka Stephen street, Sani Abacha street down to the Sierra Leone Telecommunication Limited (SIERRATEL) area. Trooper Tajudeen Olonade, L/Cpl Lilly Diepereye and I with some infantry soldiers were deployed to the SIERRATEL to support the Nigerian Navy Ship deployed at the Water-Key Port closer to the SIERRATEL.
That faithful morning, after three of us who were from the same battalion have prayed together, we received a message from our battalion 2ic (second in command), Major Funmilayo who later retired as a Colonel that Trooper Tajudeen and I should report to the State House. On getting there, we were asked to join an infantry battalion that just arrived from Liberia to advance to Calabar town.
The reason being that the newly arrived troops needed experienced fighters to lead their attack since we understood the terrain better. Even when we were celebrating that we have carried out our own task successfully by capturing the state house, we had no option when the new task was given, we must obey the last order. Tajudeen and I prayed together before we boarded the truck to the location. I was with my RPG and AK-47, while Tajudeen was with his GMPG and AK-47 also.
Our battalion 2ic, Major Funmilayo led the attack by himself. The commander of the infantry battalion we were fighting along with was Major Lasisi, he was the infantry battalion 2ic. By the time we got to Calabar town, we had captured more ground that we were looking for men to cover it, to avoid being recaptured from us by the enemies. That was when Major Funmilayo shouted EFFIONG TAKE OVER THE FRONT LINE, YOU KNOW THESE PEOPLE ARE JJC HERE. I was shocked because Major Lasisi, a battalion 2ic was there at the front line with us but Major Funmilayo decided to hand over the command to me.
While still waiting for Major Funmilayo to return to the front line with reinforcement, something terrible happened and fear came upon me. Few metres away from us was the only support weapon we had in the front line, it was Armoured Personal Carrier (APC) with 7.62mm Machine Gun mounted on it. By then I had exhausted all the bombs with me, I went to the APC for more bombs. There I knew in my spirit that something bad was going to happen. So I picked a charcoal on the ground and wrote JESUS on the ground. As I was looking at the name, I started building confidence until the fear gradually left me.
The next thing that happened was a sound of a close range shot and Tajudeen thought I fired it and he shouted Effiong who fired that shot. It was a sound of a 7.62mm special, which can only be fired from AK-47. We were even blaming some of the infantry solders behind us, little did we know that an enemy soldier had crawled closer to us to eliminate us who were giving them troubles. The battle was in a build-up area where someone can easily infiltrate your location without your knowledge. Again there was a rapid firing at close range and this time, my friend Tajudeen was shouting Effiong carry me carry me. But at that time, I saw the rebel who opened that fire, so I released one out of the three RPG bombs I was holding to escort him to meet with his ancestors in the land beyond.
Then I quickly turned back and my friend was losing blood. And even at that condition, Tajudeen was firing his GPMG. He was shot at the waist region and the bullet busted his bladder. The enemy’s plan was to kill three of us who were in the fore front, so he opened rapid firing on us and I was in the middle. But surprisingly, the bullets hit two of them by my right and my left, and my friend Tajudeen was the one by my right. Meanwhile, Gambo, an infantry soldier who was by my left was also hit but survived.
After we had managed to push back the enemies, I carried Tajudeen who was bleeding seriously to the APC and asked the APC driver to open for us to put Tajudeen and rush him to the ECOMOG hospital. At this time, the 2ic of the infantry battalion we went to help came out from where he was hiding and instructed the APC driver not to leave the front line. Tears were all over my eyes because I did not want Tajudeen whose wife has just given birth in Nigeria to die. I was left with only one option, so I dropped my friend who was shouting Effiong don’t leave me, Effiong don’t leave me, I mounted the only RPG bomb left with me on my RPG and cocked, I ordered the APC driver to open the vehicle or I blow off the APC. At this time, Major Lasisi was helpless, because the APC driver obeyed my command. After all, it was me Major Funmilayo handed over the front line to.
That was how we moved our friend out of the front line, but along the road, we captured a vehicle and asked the APC driver to return to the front line. My friend was still alive when we got the hospital at the Wilberforce barracks. The doctor received him and did the necessary medical things, he was still holding my hand very firmly while telling me what to tell his wife. I was not ready to allow him talk more because I was telling him that he would not die, and I was praying like a mad man. But I heard him said, oga Effiong, please those two children are the only things I have in this world, please tell my wife to send them to school. After that, he breathed his last.
My late friend married a Liberian woman when we went for our first ECOMOG Mission on 6th August 1994. They had a son by name Ola who was about two years old as at when we were brought to Sierra Leone to liberate Freetown. His wife was pregnant for the second child when we left Nigeria for the operation. Few weeks after we arrived Freetown, while on the battle field, we heard a good news that his wife in the barracks in Saki, Oyo State has given birth to a beautiful baby girl. But my friend did not see the girl whose name is Mary till today.
After the mission in Sierra Leone, as we returned back to Nigeria, I was told that my friend’s wife faced so much hardship in the barracks because army had stopped her late husband’s salary. As a result of that, she decided to take the two children back to Liberia. And there was no way for me to deliver the message from her late husband to her. But in 2008, I went back to Liberia for United Nations Peace Mission where I was deployed at the Freeport of Monrovia. Then I was able to trace the woman to their family compound near Hotel Africa and delivered the message from my late friend to her.
When I got to their family compound in Liberia, she told the children that their father has come. I could not hold back my tears, but I controlled it so the children would not see my crying. And since 2008, we lost contact until this year 2022. Thank God for facebook and whatsapp. I now communicate with my late friend’s wife and the two children anytime I want. Late Tajudeen Olonade was from Osun State, Nigeria. He was a brave soldier and a good footballer; we were selected as special forces to reinforce the battalion that arrived from Liberia because we were more experienced, but unfortunately, we lost him on active service.
Last time I spoke with his wife, she told me that her family in Liberia is sponsoring her daughter's education, but Ola has dropped out for lack of money. Would Tajudeen's children had dropped out of school if he was still alive? Is it a crime defending Nigeria? Now who will send late Tajudeen's children to school? This is the picture of late Tajudeen's Children in Liberia.

Politics / Looting Without Mercy At Military Pensions Board (mpb): by yusufidoko: 11:28am On Mar 22, 2021
Military Pensioners and NoKs of Dead Personnel are the Unfortunate Victims.
1. The amount of money that flows into the MPB is enough to take good care of military pensioners and the benefits of NoKs of deceased personnel, including full payment of Minimum Wage Consequential Adjustment and Security Debarment Allowance (SDA). But the money is massively looted and shared by MPB and its boss MOD with no consequences to fear. They operate like a drug cartel. The recent exposé in the social media and others covered and uncovered (a case in point: Tolani Soyombo https://punchng.com/
court-remands-army-officers-bankers-over-alleg
ed-n339m-pension-fraud/?amp=1 ), lend credence to the age-long, perennial massive looting and sleaze perpetrated in the MPB with no accountability.
2. For how long shall military pensioners remain docile and completely helpless in seeking for remedy? My previous efforts to raise alarm and attract attention to our plight were countered by officially-engineered gang-up of some pensioners' leaders with diversionary plots and pleas for "Dialogue" with MPB and MOD, the very authorities that suck our blood and are ever ready to "settle" and cajole a few leaders to neutralize the outcry.
3. I wish to reinstate that the very people feeding fat from looting and sharing our commonwealth cannot be the ones entrusted to investigate and remedy the situation.
4. Only Mr President can give directive for a Forensic Audit of MPB (which is long overdue) by a reputable independent Forensic Audit firm. We must seek for that.
5. Military pensioners, meanwhile, should be prepared for a mass protest at Aso Rock gate, Abuja, to draw the attention of the Presidency to our plight and pain.
6. Mobilization and preparation should commence immediately. Those in distant locations should prepare to raise fund to send representatives for the protest. Date will come up when we are getting ready.

Politics / Nigerian Armed Forces And COVID-19 Palliative Who Deserves Them? by yusufidoko: 11:45pm On Jul 05, 2020
Onuh Onuh James ▶ Association of Military Pensioners of Nigeria
Nigerian Armed Forces and COVID-19 Palliative: who deserves them?
I have continued to wonder what has gone wrong with our thinking process. I am bothered to my marrows why people in high offices in the Nigerian Armed Forces are not reasoning properly. Is it that they are really and truly bereft of ideas, lack good quality advisers or because they do not have the smallest, infinitesimal or the minutest regard for the lives of the retiree community? For me, the latter fits the situation most, therefore, no other excuse will be acceptable to us under any guise.
It is quite unfortunate and utterly regrettable to hear on national television stations, social media and heard over the radio stations how the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) are going about the entire country distributing COVID-19 Palliative items to indigent Nigerians, very good indeed! Surprisingly, these various Service Chiefs; COAS, CNS and CAS have been heading these distributions but regretfully, they have failed to recognized the many millions of their own personnel whom they have used and dumped who themselves have become more indigents than those being giving palliatives while those of us who were made indigents by the state and are scattered across the length and breadth of Nigeria are made to languish in abject poverty and in perpetual want.
Has it ever crossed these senior officer's minds that those of us whom they have impoverished overtime through their maladministration, usurping part of our pay and allowances, shortchanging us in our gratuities, pensions and other retirement benefits which rightly belong to us, so much so that we are living from hands to mouths as a result of these illegal denials, we are not indigent enough to need palliative? Who is more indigent than the Nigeria's veterans as it is in the present day Nigeria?
It is no use talking about many unpaid pension arrears, arrears of 16 months consequential adjustment of the new minimum wage approved by government. Let the Chief of Defence Staff and his Service Chiefs tell the whole world who are more indigent than retired members of Nigerian Armed Forces. They can't pay us all that truly belong to us, they have continued to share palliatives to their known indigents and those of us whom they have made indigent for serving our country, we have been totally and inhumanly denied our legitimate allowances roundabout us, yet none of these people have bothered to give veterans plight a thought. However, in their myopic reasoning, that is if they reason at all, it's forgone conclusion that everyone today is affected by COVID-19 but veterans of Nigerian military. Our offence is that we have served our country but no matter the gravity of our offence, no veteran is regretting to have served his father's land. Nigeria to us is the land of the Rising Sun and no amount of corruption can deem her light!
We have known you to be Ogres but you cannot kill all of us nor continue to rip veterans apart but it is just a matter of time, at the nick of time, you will pay, and pay through your noses you will very soon!!!

Politics / Letter To Military Pension Board Chairman by yusufidoko: 9:24am On Mar 29, 2020
MY LETTER TO THE MPB CHAIRMAN!!!
Dear sir, I hereby write to inform you about the plights of Nigerian Veterans which you head. I must sincerely thank you without mincing words the goods you have achieved since you assumed office as the head of monetary and administrative head of the Veterans Federation of Nigeria. It is unfortunate also that this open letter is coming to you at this point in time when the whole world including Nigeria our own dear country are battling with this dreaded disease called Covid -19. It is also disheartening to note that Nigerian Veterans are mostly hit in this situation. Our dear Chairman, what will it take if you release a statement through your PRO to the numerous veterans informing us the steps being taken by your office to alleviate our sufferings. Note that most of us depend on this monthly stipends to survive with our families. Most countries (some Africans countries inclusive) are ditching out some palliatives to their veterans but , nothing heard from you sir. We are confined to our homes without nothing to support us. Some of our colleagues from Medical Corp are being recalled to come and assist the serving ones in fighting this scourge still, no palliatives. If I may suggest sir, instead of confronting the ASA for any palliatives, please, hasten the payments of our 8 months balance of arrears. When someone is owed 14 months salaries and out of this 6 months is paid, the balance must be demanded for in a civilised environment. Presently, we are at home, no monthly stipends for march, no 8 months arrears and no any palliatives. How do you expect us to feed our families sir? Kindly temper justice with mercy. We know you are trying but when one killed a snake and left the snake with the head intact, you have not killed that snake sir. Let your PRO address us in this circumstances please. Your hope will give hope to many homes in this situation please. On a sad note, two(2) of our colleagues died within 5 days in my LGA last week. Must we all die before we get what is constitutionally belong to us? Is it a crime to serve our country as a soldier with all our mights and minds? Please, help us in this situation and God will help you as he has been doing to you.
Signed: IAI JP.
