Nigeria's Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has confessed that he shared over 200 exotic vehicles to ruling All Progressives Congress members ahead of the party’s governorship primary in Kebbi State.

Malami had in April declared interest in the Kebbi State governorship race.



Days after his declaration, exotic vehicles such as Toyota Prado, Lexus, Toyota Hilux, and Mercedes-Benz vehicles were given to APC members.

However, the minister last week claimed the story attributing vehicle distribution to him was mischievous and misconstrued information.

In a video shared by Peoples Gazette, Malami was heard saying some people were not happy with the distribution because they were used to hard drugs.

He also boasted that he will soon share hundreds of aeroplanes and not cars alone.

“They are used to distributing hard drugs, but we shared cars, so they will not be happy with the good things we are doing.

Malami, a lawyer from Kebbi State who was hardly known before 2015 when he was appointed into the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, is today one of the richest men in Nigeria.

In 2020, a series of detailed investigations carried out by SaharaReporters showed that Malami had acquired several properties whose value run into many billions of naira since being appointed into the administration of President Buhari as Nigeria’s chief law officer.

For example, the AGF has an underground hotel in Sokoto, three houses at Peace Estate, Abuja, a brand-new state-of-the-art school in Kebbi, two houses for his sons worth N100 million each and a new hotel under construction in the Jabi area of Abuja.

Malami also bought a house this year worth N150 million in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja.

A school located at the back of NITEL in Gesse Phase 1, Birnin Kebbi and a house worth N600 million on Ahmadu Bello Way, Nasarawa GRA, Kano, are among properties acquired by Malami since he became a minister under President Buhari.

The houses he built for his sons in Kebbi are 200 metres apart in a posh part of the city.

That is not all. Malami also built N3billion multipurpose event centre in Kebbi State named Azbir Arena, for his son.

The facility is said to be an entertainment centre with a plaza and kids’ playing section.

There are indications on Friday that the meeting convened by South- West leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the party’s presidential aspirants from the zone may be postponed. 


The meeting, convened by the former governors of Ogun and Osun states, Chief Olusegun Osoba and Bisi Akande at the Lagos House, Marina was called for the South-West to present a united front going into the presidential primary as there were now many aspirants from the region.


Aspirants expected at the meeting were Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; former Lagos State governor and national leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi; immediate past governor of Ogun State and serving senator, Ibikunle Amosun and Pastor Tunde Bakare.




However, credible sources informed Daily Independent that some former governors and loyalists of some of the presidential aspirants are alleging bias, saying majority of the South West APC leaders are allies of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.


Some of the aspirants also faulted the Lagos House, Marina venue chosen for the meeting saying the conveners, if sincere should have opted for a neutral venue and not the homemade of one of the aspirants.


Others also claimed that the conveners have already prepared a communique which was leaked in which they want the other aspirants to shelve their ambition and support Tinubu’s presidential bid.


Those against the meeting said the conveners of the meeting deliberately left out some former governors who are in the APC from attending the meeting by not sending invitation.


While faulting the composition of the meeting, they are therefore demanding a postponement of the meeting so that they can be included in the decisions.


Speaking with our correspondent, a former governor in the South-West said they have written letters to both Akande and Osoba, demanding a postponement of the meeting.


" There is no guarantee the meeting will hold today because most leaders in the South West APC who were initially shut out are asking for participation. From the look of things, a postponement is likely if the conveners really mean well for the South-West".


" How can you call a South-West APC leaders meeting and did not send invite to people like Engr. Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun state governor and current Minister of Interior? Why will you exclude people like Akinwunmi Ambode,  Otunba Gbenga Daniel and several others?"


" These people are South-West APC leaders in their rights and since what will be discussed at the meeting is of National importance, they have written to the conveners to postpone it so that they can be accommodated. They are yet to respond" he said.


However, when contacted, one of the stakeholders said the meeting scheduled for 12pm has been shifted till 6pm for logistic reasons.

Embattled governor of Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has perfected plans to remove appointees who are loyal to Lagos senator Olamilekan Adeola aka Yayi.

This is coming after it came to the governor's knowledge that the appointees, who constitute 60% of his cabinet, are working secretly on Yayi's governorship project in 2023 contrary to the popular belief that he is running for Ogun West senatorial ticket.

The governor was said to have been irked when he learnt over the weekend that these appointees, led by one of his top political advisers, had gone to present the party's membership card to the Lagos senator behind his back. Yayi was also said to have secretly purchased the governorship form in readiness for the battle ahead.

Though he is currently denying, our correspondent learnt that Yayi has been signalled by the strongman of Lagos politics to get ready to replace Abiodun.

The Lagos godfather is said to be livid with Abiodun after he publicly declared support for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo's presidential ambition against his Lagos benefactor.

Abiodun is said to be scared that if Yayi eventually decides to run against him, he would be left empty, hence the need to quickly oust Yayi's men from his government.

Already, a quiet plan, coordinated by the governor's top confidant in government has been activated to replace aides such as Tunji Egbetokun, Babatunde Olaotan (HBO) Shuaib Afolabi Salisu and all those associated with them.

Our correspondent learnt that some of these men have been encouraged to resign in order to contest elective offices in 2023; but this is a ploy to ease them out as the governor won't hand them tickets.

According to the APC primary schedule, the governorship primary comes before that of the National Assembly and as soon as Abiodun pocks his ticket, he would fully turn against Yayi's men who would have been badly weakened as they are no longer in government.

Our correspondent learnt that two top officials of Ijebu extraction, close to governor Abiodun, have been asked to commission the recruitment of trusted allies to replace those resigning.

This is being done through a HR staff of a Lagos-based consultancy services company where one of the top officials worked before Abiodun appointed him. The company has been handling the governor's multi-billion naira deals via phoney consultancy.
