HAHAHAHA. LOL. OGA MARK YOUR THOUGHT IS A GOOD ONE BUT I FEEL IT WORKS IN AN ENLIGHTENED/FORWARD THINKING STATE.ETHNICITY HAS EATEN DEEP INTO OUR SOCIAL FABRIC.

THE DISPARITY OF ETHNIC NATIONALITIES THAT FORM NIGERIA WILL WORK AGAINST YOUR IDEA SIR. IMAGINE AN IGBO MAN AS THE GOVERNOR OF OYO STATE, OGUN OR KANO STATE. I BELIEVE THAT ANY POLICY OF GOVERNMENT MAY BE VIEWED AS ANTI - NATIVES.

IT IS FACT THAT INTRA-ETHNIC CONFLICT TAKE PLACE IN NIGERIA. THERE WERE COMPLAINTS THAT CERTAIN GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE IS NOT A LOGOSIAN.

LET THE SENATE STRIKE OUT QUOTA SYSTEM. IT BREEDS MEDIOCRITY. WHEN I WAS WRITING JAMB, UNN CUT OFF MARK DEALT WITH ME AS MY STATE(IMO) WAS REQUIRED TO MEET THE HIGHEST CUT OFF MARK. FOR INSTANCE WHEN I MADE 243 AND WAS NOT ADMITTED, CANDIDATES FROM KANO AND OTHER NORTHERN STATES, AKWA IBOM, CROSS RIVER WERE ADMITTED WITH CUT OFF POINTS BETWEEN 198- 215.MERIT SLAUGHTERED ON THE ALTAR OF MEDIOCRITY.

A farce by Gowon(JACK). One Nigeria is an illusion. The political class have refused to see that NIGERIA can never work because of personal aggrandizement. PREVALENCE OF ANTI LOCUTION AND DISCRIMINATION AMONGST NIGERIANS SPEAK ELOQUENTLY FOR MY POSITION.

IN 'ONE NIGERIA', WE STILL HEAR ESTATE AGENTS SAYING ''WE DON'T WANT IGBO/HAUSA,IBIBIO,IJAW TENANT'' AS THE CASE MAYBE. ETHNIC PREJUDICE AND STEREOTYPES CAN NEVER BE A FEATURE OF UNITED ENTITY.

HAUSA/FULANI CONTINUE TO MASSACRE THE PEOPLE OF PLATEAU (GOWON'S KINSMEN) BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE GOWON USED AND WASTED THEIR BROTHERS DURING THE CIVIL WAR.

CULLED FROM PUNCH NEWSPAPER 26.12.11

A group of Hausa youths barricaded the road and set up bonfires, threatening to take on other ethnic groups that wanted to demonstrate over the incident. A Photo-journalist with Business day, Tunde Adeniyi, narrowly escaped being lynched by the youth who stabbed him in the elbow with a knife.

He told THE PUNCH that he was taking pictures youth when one of the youth grabbed him by the trousers and assaulted him. “The mob would have killed me but for God’s grace and the fact that I pleaded with them in Hausa language. I was taking pictures of the bonfires they made when one of them grabbed me by the trousers and others came and started beating me.

“One of them stabbed me in the elbow while another one struggled to dispossess me of my bag.

“I was very afraid and I pleaded with them, but they kept beating me. I struggled with them and I managed to free myself and took to my heels,” the journalist explained.

NIGERIA IS NOT ONE NO MATTER HOW SELFISH POLITICIANS TRY TO PREACH UNITY IN DIVERSITY.WE ARE DIVIDED AGAINST ETHNIC AND RELIGIOUS LINES. I KNOW COUNTRIES LIKE CANADA AND AUSTRALIA ARE MADE UP OF ETHNIC NATIONALITIES BUT THEY MANAGED TO LIVE PEACEFULLY.

BRITISH COLONIAL SYSTEM IN NIGERIA ENCOURAGED ETHNICITY TO BRING ABOUT DIVISION SO THAT THEY CAN CONCENTRATE AND DRAIN THE COUNTRY'S RESOURCES.BRITISH POLICY OF SABON GARI ETC SPEAKS ELOQUENTLY FOR MY STANDPOINT.

ARE THESE CABALS SUPERNATURAL BEINGS? WHY CAN'T THE GOVERNMENT BRING THEM TO BOOK. THE TRUTH IS THAT GOVERNMENT IS NOT SINCERE. WHAT IS EFCC DOING? LOOKING FOR YAHOO BOYS THAT MAKE $100 AND CLOSING THEIR EYES WHEN POLITICIANS STEAL BILLIONS OF NAIRA.

ETHNICITY IN ACTION ! ALL YOU GUYS PRAISING 'BLACK SCORPION' ARE NOTHING BUT COMPLETE FOOLS. WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE NOW ASKING FOR SOVEREIGN NATIONAL CONFERENCE.

"It would be naive, even dangerous, to assume that the political and economic problems that sired Biafra have disappeared or have been addressed. To paper over a problem is not the same thing as addressing it. Biafra, lest we forget, was a struggle for self-determination; it was also a struggle to redefine the character of the Nigerian state, who exercised power over the whole, to what extent, and for what purpose. Are the Ijo, Ikwerre, Ogoni and several other communities in the Niger Delta not continuing that struggle today? Are the Tiv, Jukun, Fulani, and Hausa presently slugging out in the Middle Belt not struggling to redefine the very basis of citizenship in the Nigerian state? Are not the millions who trudge the streets of Lagos and the nation's other urban sprawls in search of food not fighting for self-determination and demanding the right to work and a decent wage?

THANK GOD YOU WERE NOT KILLED FOR THE COUP YOU PLANNED WITH YOUR KINSMEN. HOW CAN MAKE SUCH USELESS COMMENT. APOLOGISE FOR THE POGROM METED OUT TO EASTERNERS IN THE NORTH?

OBJ , YOU ARE A BLOOD SUCKING DEMON.

THE SAME OBJ THAT WENT TO DISCUSS WITH BOKO HARAM IS HAPPY EASTERNERS WERE MASSACRED IN THE NORTH FOR NO JUST CAUSE. MAY GOD FORGIVE YOU FOOLISH GENERAL.

IGNORANT NAIRALANDERS ARE QUICK TO BLAME OJUKWU FOR GOING TO WAR WITHOUT CONSIDERING THAT HE DID NOT WANT TO GO TO WAR UNTIL USELESS YAKUBU GOWN BLATANTLY REFUSED TO IMPLEMENT THE ABURI ACCORD.

I WOULD LIKE GUYS TO GO THROUGH THIS PIECE FROM WIKIPEADIA :

The buildup to the Biafran War

In the meantime, the July counter-coup had unleashed pogroms against more than 50,000 Easterners throughout the Northern Region. Hundreds of Eastern officers were murdered during the revolt, and in the North, as commanding officers either lost their control of their troops or actively egged them on to violence against Igbo civilians, it did not take long for Northerners from all walks of life to participate. Tens of thousands of Igbos were killed throughout the North. The persecution precipitated the flight of more than a million Igbo towards their ancestral homelands in eastern Nigeria. Lieutenant Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the military governor of the Eastern region who did not allow attempts by Northern soldiers stationed in his region to replicate the massacres of Igbo officers, argued that if Igbo lives could not be preserved by the Nigerian state, then the Igbo reserved the right to establish a state of their own in which their rights would indeed be respected.

There arose tension between the Eastern region and the northern controlled federal government led by Gowon. On 4–5 January 1967, in line with Ojukwu's demand to meet for talks only on neutral soil, a summit attended by Gowon, Ojukwu and other members of the Supreme Military Council was held at Aburi in Ghana, the stated purpose of which was to resolve all outstanding conflicts and establish Nigeria as a confederation of regions. The outcome of this summit was the Aburi Accord.

The Aburi Accord did not see the light of the day, as the Gowon led government had huge consideration for the possible revenues, especially oil revenues which were expected to increase given that reserves having been discovered in the area in the mid-1960s. It has been said without confirmation that both Gowon and Ojukwu had knowledge of the huge oil reserves in the Niger Delta area, which today has grown to be the mainstay of the Nigerian economy.

In a move to check the influence of Ojukwu's government in the East, Gowon announced on 5 May 1967 the division of the 3 Nigerian regions into 12 states - North-Western State, North-Eastern state, Kano State, North-Central State, Benue-Plateau State, Kwara State, Western State, Lagos State, Mid-Western State, and, from Ojukwu's Eastern Region, a Rivers State, a South-Eastern State, and an East-Central State. The non-Igbo South-Eastern and Rivers states which had the oil reserves and access to the sea, were carved out to isolate the Igbo areas as East-Central state.[5]

One controversial aspect of this move was Gowon's annexing of Port Harcourt, a large city in the Niger Delta, in the South of Nigeria (the Ikwerres), sitting on some of Nigeria's largest reserves, into the new Rivers State, emasculating the migrant Igbo population of traders there. The flight of many of them back to their villages in the 'Igbo heartland' in Eastern Nigeria where they felt safer was alleged to be a contradiction for Gowon's "no victor, no vanquished" policy, when at the end of the war, the properties they left behind were claimed by the Rivers State indigenes.

Minority ethnicities of the Eastern Region were rather not sanguine about the prospect of secession,[6] as it would mean living in what they felt would be an Igbo-dominated nation. Some non-Igbos living in the Eastern Region either refrained from offering active support to the Biafran struggle, or actively aided the federal side by enlisting in the Nigerian army and feeding it intelligence about Biafran military activities.

However, some did play active roles in the Biafran government, with N.U. Akpan serving as Secretary to the Government, Lt. Col (later Major-General) Philip Effiong, serving as Biafra's Chief of Defence Staff and others like Chiefs Bassey and Graham-Douglas serving in other significant roles.

Boko Haram: Why Northern retired Generals are silent

A source closed to Army Generals of the Northern extraction has attributed the silence of the officers from the region on the menace of the Boko Haram sect on the fear of being misquoted by the public.

According to the source would not like to make public comment on the issue to avoid being misquoted of taking side with the Islamic group, adding that the Generals were of the opinion that, “you don’t go to war or confront somebody who is ready to commit suicide on the spot because you can’t win such fight, so in such situation, dialogue becomes the next option.”

Specifically, the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Ethics and Values, Sarah Jibril had a week ago blamed retired Generals and elders of the zone for the unabated activities of the Boko Haram, saying that, “if there are elders in the house, things don’t go bad.”

However, a reliable source close to most of the retired Army officers in the North, who is also a chieftain in one of the socio-political groups in the region told Daily Sun that the Generals preferred government to dialogue with the Boko Haram rather than confronting force for force. The source further said that elders in the North believed that government was playing politics with insecurity in the country instead of tackling the issue from the right direction to stop the carnage in the land.

“We expect government to call these boys to a round table and work on their state of mind and heart, believing that they can embrace peace if they are psychologically handled because you don’t confront violence with violence especially when the other party is even ready to commit suicide.” “If somebody you are going to fight starts killing himself before you get closer to him, who are you going to fight with again, so that is the situation,” the source said.
“As for the arrest of Senator Ali Ndume, the source said the security agencies should not rush into conclusion, but allows the court to follow due process and judicial procedure to get to the root of the matter, adding that the ex-spokesman of the Boko Haram, Ali Umar Konduga should be treated with care and avoid extra judicial application on him.”

It would be recalled that last week, the former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari spoke through his spokesman, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, saying that the arrest of Senator Ndume was a clear indication that the opposition political parties were not behind terror attacks in country.

IN THE SAME VEIN, GEJ HAS THE RIGHT TO CONTEST. IT NOW DEPENDS ON WHOM PDP DELEGATES VOTE FOR DURING THEIR PRIMARIES.

I DON'T KNOW WHY IMMINIENT DISINTEGRATION OF PDP IS BOTHERING YOU. WHAT HAS PDP DONE FOR NIGERIANS SINCE THEY CAPTURED POWER FROM THE MILITARY? FRANKLY SPEAKING AM TIRED OF PDP. THE PARTY HAS NO VISION FOR NIGERIA.

President Jonathan can’t contest on PDP’s platform – Ben Obi
Interview Jan 2, 2011

By Jide Ajani, Deputy Editor
Without prejudice to Adamu Dutsinma and Madam Sarah Jubril, the two other presidential contenders in the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, those on whom Nigerians have fixed their gaze are President Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

In this interview with Senator Ben Obi, Director-General, Atiku Campaign Organisation (a two-part interview with the DG of the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organisation had been published earlier), he brings a fresh insight into the zoning argument.

According to Obi, “the judgment is that the party has a constitution, the incumbent has a right to contest. Of course, that is correct. We’ve never said he shouldn’t contest. We have never said so. The point is that there are other platforms that do not have zoning and rotation in their constitutions.

Obi, We'll congratulate Jonathan if he wins, but

So, if he wants to oblige himself the constitution of Nigeria, I would prefer a situation where he does that on another platform. But our own party provides for zoning and rotation, so he should go and look for another platform on which he would contest.

“There is nothing new under the sun. We had tried it before.
In 2007 when President Obasanjo decided to drive Turaki out of PDP and he had to move because they just denied he and his supporters, including my humble self registration, the Supreme Court said he could not only contest election on another platform but that his position as Nigeria’s Vice-President remained very intact.

”So, we ran on the platform of the Action Congress, AC, and Turaki remained Nigeria’s Vice-President. Look, the law is very clear. The President can collapse 30/35 political parties if he wants, that is his business.”
Excerpts:

Your political party is one replete with contradictions and one of the major sources of contradictions today is the issue of zoning and how the party appears to be handling it.

What are those things that you would want to tell Nigerians at a time like this, especially since your principal is leading the debate?

As a political party or as a campaign team!

As a campaign team for Turaki Atiku Abubakar.

On the issue of zoning, the matter is clear.

Like you know, the matter is in the constitution of the party, so it is a subject for public discourse and, therefore, we feel, that all those who are concerned as Nigerians are free to look at what we are going through and take a clear-cut position for or against in this matter.

You don’t have to push it to Nigerians. It is your party.

There is little or nothing we can do.

This is because this matter is already in the public domain.

Our own duty, as a campaign organisation, is to hold firm to our position with regard to our belief that first and foremost, we are members of a political party that has a constitution that is supposed to be guiding us as people belonging to a political movement. And, we believe further, that as a member and as members of a political party, you have a duty to respect the constitution of the party.

It is in that same regard that you are, possibly, also, going to respect the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

We, as responsible citizens of this country, are holding unto that.
That is, first and foremost, we know the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria states clearly that everybody who is qualified to seek the office of the President and Commander-in-Chief should be allowed to seek that office.

But, let me tell you, we all come under one umbrella called the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.

We have to respect the rules of that party before we jump out to say we want to obey other rules.
That is because in this country, once you are in authority, people are always afraid of telling you the gospel truth.
It takes only a few people to tell you that this is not right.

It is based on that that some of us came together in 2006 to fight against the tenure elongation of Olusegun Obasanjo.
If we had kept quiet, today, there would not be a question of talking about zoning or no zoning which some people are now claiming that they are free to contest and they can do ABC or D.

That is the point.

There is nothing that is holding us back on what we can say or what we cannot say regarding zoning or no zoning.
It is clear in our party constitution.

But, were the situation to be reversed – Obasanjo is alive and Atiku is alive – and had Obasanjo died before the expiration of his tenure the first time (first tenure of four years) wouldn’t Atiku have contested in 2003? Wouldn’t he have been quoting the same 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as is being done so gleefully now?

Don’t forget that it was as a result of the need by the party to hold on to its zoning arrangement that there was an expanded caucus meeting.

That was exactly why PDP met in December 2002 and decided that the zoning should continue and that the presidency should remain in the south for another four years.

That decision also affected Turaki.

Don’t forget or let me remind you that the Turaki had the support of 22 PDP state governors who wanted him to contest against Obasanjo.

That was why, in spite of the fact that 22 PDP state governors wanted Turaki to contest, he declined.
He wanted to run but ….

(Cuts in) Yes, 22 PDP governors; he wanted to run, but he didn’t.
The support of those governors was there, waiting. But he declined to run. He turned it down.
In fact, today, some of them are yet to forgive Turaki because he did no run.

So, you can see the type of dilemma that the Turaki himself has gone through.
And, this came to be simply because he said he wanted to respect the constitution of the party.

There is this other talk of the seeming non-workability of the consensus arrangement. Before Turaki emerged, the talk was about the fact that it would not work; but even after being picked, some observers still whisper the seeming disconnect between the aspirants – that is the quartet of Ibrahim Babangida, Aliyu Gusau, Bukola Saraki and the Turaki himself…

For every situation, you will continue to have doubting Thomases all around.
But I can tell you that as the Director- General of this campaign organisation, or as we would like to have it, the Consensus DG, it is my duty to liaise between the four principals.

I can say with all certainty that I go between all of them every other day and they tell me what they want reflected in the day-to-day activities of the organisation and it is so done.

I also get calls from them, they tell me ‘we think you should do this…’

And, even the chairman of the G-4, Gen. Babangida, would tell me, ‘you need to call this meeting; you need to call that meeting’, and, it is so done.

For all intents and purposes, I can tell you that they are all committed to it.

There was this statement recently made by the Turaki which caused so much furore – that ‘those who make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable’ – and President Goodluck Jonathan threw something back at him.

Why make such a statement? And, although your principal has come out to respond that he cannot be intimidated, is that the type of statement that should be made at a time like this?

You see, my reaction to that, I didn’t bother my head talking about it and I told the media team to just make a reaction and put an end to that.

Clearly, my worry is that it smacks clearly signs of inexperience on the part of our opponents.

That is so because the statement is a statement that every and any serious- minded statesman must make at times like this. This is a country where, everyday you see people threatening this and threatening that.

The answer to it is, in my opinion, simple: Make the process transparent so that everybody will see through it and nobody would have cause to complain.

That is necessary so that even when some people try to complain about the process, you will have others telling them not to complain, that the process was transparent.

With the way this campaign organisation has consistently complained, do you see transparency at the end of the day regarding the primaries of your party?

They are giving people like us cause for worry.

I have addressed a press conference and I have advised our political party leaders to call the campaign teams and let us into what is happening; to, at least, brief us so that we, too, can ask questions and then have answers.

And, at the end of the day, we should be able to work as a team.

We are still members of the same political party.

We do not want a situation whereby we would go public with matters that we ordinarily should have been able to settle in-house by throwing missiles at one another.

It is not necessary.

A few of Turaki’s associates are in court trying to stop President Jonathan from contesting. But there was a judgment two months ago on the same matter. To a layman, what are these associates looking for?

Well, the judgment is that the party has a constitution, the incumbent has a right to contest.
Of course, that is correct…

We’ve never said he shouldn’t contest.

We have never said so.

So, what have you been saying?

The point is that there are other platforms that do not have zoning and rotation in their constitutions.
So, if he wants to oblige himself the constitution of Nigeria, I would prefer a situation where he does that on another platform.

But our own party provides for zoning and rotation, so he should go and look for another platform on which he would contest.

But there appears to be an incongruity in what you have just said. Why should a sitting President obey a party constitution as against the country’s constitution. How would that happen?

There is nothing new under the sun.

We had tried it before.

In 2007 when President Obasanjo decided to drive Turaki out of PDP and he had to move because they just denied he and his supporters, including my humble self registration, the Supreme Court said he could not only contest election on another platform but that his position as Nigeria’s Vice- President remained very intact.

So, we ran on the platform of the Action Congress, AC, and Turaki remained Nigeria’s Vice-President.
Look, the law is very clear.

The President can collapse 30/35 political parties if he wants, that is his business. But I am saying that holding the office of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and indeed, the President of any country, whatever is the constitution of any organisation, even be it a club, a social club, if that social club that you belong to has a constitution, please, try as much as possible to obey that constitution.

You must respect that constitution.

The possibility is that once we begin to violate that constitution or constitutions, even of clubs, then the likelihood is that the constitution of the country too, would be violated.

And, we don’t want that to happen.

But, people are asking: What does Atiku Abubakar want? What does he want, after his stupendous wealth and having served as Nigeria’s Vice- President?

Turaki is a politician.

Politics is derived from the Latin word, Polity, people, therefore, if you want to serve the people and serve them well, the only way you can succeed in doing that is by holding the lever of power yourself.

You cannot do that as Vice-President.

Here is somebody who has served as Vice-President, his first shot at the presidency was in 1992.

Again, in 1992, in the interest of the party and as a nationalist and statesman, he buried his ambition.
Again, in 2003, in the interest of the party, he dropped his ambition, against the pressure coming from many of his colleagues, the governors.

Now, we are in the race, we’ve gone through many of the hurdles, including consensus and now we are going into the primaries. All I am saying is, let the PDP conduct a transparent primary.

If we are defeated by the incumbent, I, as DG of this campaign, will issue a congratulatory message to the incumbent. But, my word is transparent, it has to be transparent.

The same thing I said as DG of Aliyu Gusau because I made it clear that the moment the nine wisemen came out with a consensus candidate, I will immediately congratulate whoever emerges and that was exactly what I did.

ATIKU IS A DAFT. THE DIVISIVE STATEMENTS HE MAKES FURTHER REDUCES HIS CHANCES OF ACTUALIZING HIS DREAMS. WE ARE IN SEARCH OF PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA NOT PRESIDENT OF 'NORTHERN NIGERIA' . DR GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN IS CONTESTING BASED ON THE FACT THAT HE IS PART OF YAR A DUA/ JONATHAN TICKET.

'TURAKI' ADAMAWA IF OBASANJO PASSED ON DURING THE FIRST TERM OF YOUR TICKET YOU COULD HAVE TAKEN OVER FROM HIM AND CONTESTED FOR THE SECOND TERM. YOU APPEAR TO BE TOO HUNGRY FOR POWER AND THAT MAY MAKE YOU IRRELEVANT POLITICALLY.

Eze Ozobu , God blesss you and your generations.I am happy with your analysis of Igbo question. Political marriage with the north never brought anything to us. They have failed us and this is our chance for us to consider what we stand to get from an existing political structure than the 2.15 bait used by the north to deceive us .

They cannot use and dump us again. It is better Igbos join GEJ because he appears to have our interest . The letter he wrote speaks eloquently for what he has for our people. That shows he has passion for uniting forces than divisive ones propagated by Adamu Ciroma and co.
