Hello Nairalanders, I want to do a road trip to Oyo next month, for 4 days. Kindly help with tips on outdoor spots I MUST check out, correct foods and food joints that must not be missed and the like. Most especially food that is unique to parts of Oyo. Not city specific, if it is within Oyo and my car can drive it, then I am down to explore it.

Your help would be most appreciated, thanks in advance!

Travel / Re: Cheap Flight Booking From Nigeria To Baltimore, maryland (us) by zainabubu(f): 1:35am On Aug 29, 2016
Check out travelstart.com.ng if you only want to pay in Naira. I find that they offer the best in terms of international flights when compared to local online travel platforms. They seem to also use interbank rates instead of mallam rate...I checked for your route on there and it is hella expensive. This naira/dollar wahala is just ridiculous.

If you have $$ see https://www.kayak.com/flights/LOS-LON/2016-10-03/LON-BWI/2016-10-17/BWI-LOS/2016-10-31 It is way cheaper than the offerings on Nigerian ticket platforms.
I checked your route using random dates in October/November and arrived at $1181...this is about 460k at a rate of N400=$1. If you are able to get a lower rate amount (Stanbic is in the 300s), you would be able to save some $$$
Sometimes, ticket prices get cheaper midweek and October is a sweet spot because it is offpeak season, so if you can afford it, buy it now before the dollar wahala gets even worse.

Travel / Re: The Modern Emerging Face Of Ibadan City. by zainabubu(f): 12:54am On Aug 29, 2016
My friends and I did a long weekend trip to Ibadan, but there was zero engaging touristy things to do there. The major roads are really well done and the city is shaping up well (I should add that some of the side roads are pretty damaging to vehicles, I would not like to be caught on those on a very rainy day).
We also need to have something cultural that ties in with the roots of Ibadan. We were not interested in going to the malls or the like, so we ended up driving to Erin-Ijesha for touristy activities.
It is great that the government body in charge is working to upscale Ibadan, but please, while upscaling, do not forget it's root. For those who live in Ibadan, kindly correct me if I am wrong. We relied on the information online for things to do in Ibadan, and found nothing engaging...if there are engaging things to do there like; museums showcasing Oyo's history, locations similar to Freedom park in Lagos and the like. Kindly inform me.
What we did enjoy in Ibadan was the food. A friend got us food from a restaurant called Jade's and the amala, gbegiri and ewedu was so good. If you know somewhere better, kindly inform me. Ibadan itself is a good retreat location from the Lagos hustle and bustle, we are thinking of going there again just to relax and enjoy some local food...and if I hear of something touristy to do, we would definitely add that to our schedule.
Here's a post of what we got up to: http://www.zeegoes.com/2016/02/27/lagos-to-ibadan-and-erin-ijesha/
Travel / Re: Top 5 Travel Blogs In Nigeria by zainabubu(f): 9:37pm On Jul 25, 2016
Many thanks for this post. I did not know about most of the bloggers on your list before seeing your post. I also run a few months old travel blog ZeeGoes.com and seeing more of Africa, most especially Nigeria is big on my to do list.

Your blog looks pretty good by the way. Kudos!

EnrouteNG:
Local travel and tourism is growing quite well in Nigeria, and this could be due to the current economic challenges the country is facing. Airline agencies are not banking enough foreign travel ticket revenue as they did some many months back because there's rice at home people cannot afford to spend anyhow at this time. Therefore, local tourism takes the spike!

To this effect, travel media has began to grow too. People are getting jobs as travel guides more and more and some people have started businesses that organise local tours. Below are the top 5 travel blogs in Nigeria (in no particular order) that serves varying travel interests.

ENROUTE NIGERIA (www.enroute.ng)

EnRoute Nigeria simply exhibits Nigeria to the world. The blog does more than showcase specific destinations but generally tells you a lot about what to expect in those destinations; the residents there, and their cultures (food, music, dance, royalty, etc). In short, the blog is likely going to become the most comprehensive travel guide in Nigeria soon with its current trajectory. You can send them email to hello@enroute.ng or follow them on twitter (@enroutenigeria) or facebook (/enrouteng) if your need any form of guidance or advise on various destinations in Nigeria, or if you are interested in contributing to their blog.

SOCIAL PREFECT (socialprefect.net)

Chiamaka Obuekwe is a tour guide who blogs about local hotspots via socialprefect.net. She arranges tours for corporate workers, friends and families who are interested in short vacations in select spots in Nigeria (sometimes, beyond). She has even featured on enroute.ng's Memoirs of a South-West Tour: http://enroute.ng/word-with-a-traveller/memoir-south-west-tour/. If you desire a space from the hustle and bustle around you, Social Prefect should be on your speed dial.

UNRAVELLING NIGERIA (unravellingnigeria.com)

Unravelling Nigeria is basically like Social Prefect as par tour planning, but the blog contains more diverse content. So most of the aforementioned applies with this blog too. By the way, if you desire to visit the Idanre Hills, unravelling Nigeria is about going on a tour with few people from the 23rd April - 24th April, 2016. You can email unravellingnigeria@gmail.com for enquiries.

NAIJA NOMADS (naijanomads.com)

Naija Nomads is the go-to spot for adventure seeking Nigerians. The blog basically curates the experiences of Nigerians who have travelled around the world. You can send an email to travel@naijanomads.com to share your experience outside of Nigeria.

NAIJA TREKS (naijatreks.com)

Just like Social prefect and unravelling Nigeria, Naija treks also takes a number of people on tours around Nigeria in various seasons of the year. you can follow up on them on their website. If you want to go with them on any tour, you can simply visit naijatreks.com/naijatreks-tour.

Travel Ads / Re: Cheapest Way To Ship Goods From USA To Nigeria? by zainabubu(f): 4:58pm On Dec 15, 2014
Just to help you not freak out too much, I had a similar experience a couple of months ago with a shipment stuck midway from US, in Turkey. The courier company did not know what happened initially, but the airline finally informed them that it was due to customs backup of shipments. The constant strike and inefficiency causes a lot of issues that makes hard working companies seem inefficient.
My goods luckily arrived 2 weeks before customs went on strike and it took them 2 extra weeks before it got released...the friday before they went on strike! It is difficult to be patient when your money is involved, but I just wanted to give you a perspective. Luckily customs recently called off its strike, with huge backlog of shipments, so that could be the reason for your issues. Pele.

Politics / Re: Occupy Ikeja City Mall- Shop Owners Shut Due To Parking Fees by zainabubu(f): 10:54pm On Mar 05, 2013
In order to avoid random folks parking their vehicle and going else where, a payment system should be enforced. Provided that those who make purchases at the mall get their tickets validated. This way, it's a win-win for all involved.
By getting tickets validated, those that are actual mall customers don't have to pay for parking. It would force window shoppers that may have spent too much time at the mall to buy something.
In cases where the customer forgets to validate parking ticket, the parking attendant should allow those with valid payment receipts go out without paying.
I've never been to the mall, but plan to in a few days...so I don't know how the parking system is now.
Car Talk / Re: Nigeria’s Driver’s License Accepted In The USA by zainabubu(f): 4:54pm On Feb 23, 2013
Maybe i did not read all the info very well on here before going to the Avis rent a car, but they do take naija's license, provided you have a major CREDIT card with your name on it. In my case, my credit card was not on me and my US id was mia. So i was forced to rush to the dmv for a new id. With the US id they will accept your debit card. This only applies when picking up the vehicle. When returning it, the rules are a bit more lax.

Fashion / Re: Product Reviews: Stop Wasting Money! Beauty Products That Actually Work by zainabubu(f): 11:59pm On Feb 04, 2012
It is a sad thing with these fake products, i just got the Jergens lotion for abt $5 in Walmart, which will be about N800N@160, it is sold for about N1800 in Naija, which should not really be a big issue if you are getting the real thing but then you are not sure you are!

Where do you buy your jergens from in naij? lol! the highest I pay is N1,200 for the large size of ultra healing, the others are cheaper. some 800 or so. You need to find a correct store to shop at.

My beauty products (purchased from Kuddy Cosmetics only)

Black Opal blemish wash - I use it as a makeup remover in the evening also, and my skin loves it. 3 years + affair
Black Opal Daily Fade Cream with Bio Affinity with SPF 15 - when I moved to naij 2 years ago, I had some mosaic like skin tone (patch patch skin). I've been using this for years now, and skin tone has remained the way God made it. (when ever I go off it in Nigeria, my skin starts its wahala again, probably something in the water.)
Unique Natural shea butter - added this into my daily for face and my body care routine in November, and people keep asking me what 'cream' I've been using!
Black Opal body renewal with alpha hydroxy - I use this with the shea butter above, and my skin just keeps glowing all day!

All of them are pretty affordable also, about N6,200, and everything last for at least 2 months.
Fashion / Re: by zainabubu(f): 2:27pm On Feb 03, 2012
Hello,

If you want something that won't tie down your cash down for too long, you should get Black Opal beauty products, pretty affordable and good quality also, and sells pretty well. www.blackopalbeauty.com
I also have a beauty store, so I'm telling you from experience, go to Kuddy Cosmetics, they are the distributors of a lot of beauty products in Nigeria. St Ives, Queen Helene etc, do pretty well for body scrubs (those sell quite well also), again Kuddy, distributes for them. MAC is quite expensive, and not many purchase them as before, IMAN seems to be lesser priced replacement for the brand, so you should check them out also. Can't remember the name of their official distributor in Nigeria, but they are toooo expensive! So check Kuddy's own out, her stuff are pretty authentic (ships them from the States).

Try not to focus too much on makeup, skincare sells the most; lightening stuff. Black Opal, QEI+, Pr Francoise, Extreme Brite, Clear Quick, etc. They sell a lot of fake of them in the market, so you should again, go to Kuddy. (notice I keep mentioning them? if you don't want wahala and extra cost of shipping them yourself, going to Kuddy is your best bet. #trueTalk)

FYI, depending on the store branch you decide to purchase from, make sure you let the sales rep know you want to buy for resale, they give good deals for resellers. www.kuddycosmetics.com

Hello, I plan on moving to Nigeria in a few weeks, but I still can't figure out if buying a wireless router would be worth it. I, like many of you here, am also an avid online gamer and I really do not know if most of my accessories would work in Nigeria, along having the ability to connect to my PSN account without any problems
Btw, does the GPS navigator work in Nigeria?
Do you still have NEPA problems?
I also have an external hard drive that is wireless connected to all my computers, will it be able to work in Nigeria?
Lastly, for now, are you also able to browse the internet on cell/smart phones?
