Leadership is an art as well as a pragmatic way regarding governance or leading a people or organization to achieve desired goals. Nigeria, over the decades has no doubt had a lot of problem with leadership. One of the hallmarks of good leadership is to gauge the responses of the followers and to act accordingly in a way that will be benefitial to all concerned. Right now, there is a schism between those protesting against the long abscence of the President and those supporting him that he had not breached any law. As it is, since early May, the President has spent well over 90 days abroad for treating undisclosed illness. While the constitution does not specify the the limit of days the President can spend in abscence and while he indeed transmitted power to his vice, it is becoming glaring that the burden of leadership is becoming too onerous or overwhelming for our dear President. On moral and logical ground, I therefore state unequivocally that he should resign. I know he means well for this nation. The nation however transcends anybody. He can not force himself to serve the people. Quality governance must not suffer because of one recalcitrant person. If he can not resume work, then he should resign. Now. |
EmeeNaka:Good one. I am not Ibo, but I think Africans should stop the idea of trying to genetically fraternize with other ethnics, Jewish or not. |

The issue of agitations should not call for use of insults and spewing of hatred. Whether one is in support or not, we should strive to maintain decency and decorum. |
The fact is our public office holders must be careful about what they say in public. Fayose says things he should not say. The prof. too should be mindful of his choice of words and remember decorum. |
Ways Not to Fight for Liberation Liberation and the quest for it is very desirable. At different times certain people found themselves under subjugation and had to fight to liberalise themselves. In Nigeria, the rancours over marginaliation are real. In the midst of these, this writer proposes how not to go about 1. There is no need to use denigrating words on the government, people not in support of the agitation or the perceived oppressors. Civil language and civility will earn you more respect and understanding. 2. Do not be violent. People mostly think violence will propel achieving the desired goal. Peaceful approach is much better.. Make people see reasons. Brain is superior to braun. 3. Do not intimidate, harras or threaten people to tow your line or do your bidding. If you threaten people, then there is no difference between you and the oppressors. 4. Do not relegate dialogue. Dialogue is always important. Even in war, dialogue must be effected. 5. Do not forget to always balance your views and arguments. Reasons can do wonders. Sentiments and irrationalities can ruin issues. Once again, brain surpasses braun. |
Indeed, some people may not like it. I however believe without any doubt that it is the best way. |
Nigerians should pray for the nation and the leaders, rather than complaining and whining. Nations usually go through tough times. Our case is not an exception. We must pray and continue to have faith until good things happen. God still hears prayers. He will heal our land. He will bring back our good times and glory. He will give us leaders that will make our land great. He will make us - the citizens - obedient and God-fearing. He will uphold us. In Jesus name. |

Politics indeed is a deadly game of intrigues. The same Fayose that is spurned by Sheriff today was one of the PDP governors that drafted Sheriff as the Chairman of the party. Nigerians must be alert. The politicla enemies of today can still become the best of friends tomorrow. |
In the last meeting of stakeholders of PDP conveyed by former President Goodluck Jonathan, the disputed Chairman Alhaji Modu Sheriff reportedly walked out of the meeting. This gave many observers the affirmation that Sheriff is the problem of the party. In as much as this writer will agree that the issue of the Chairmanship of Sheriff is one of the problems, I do also firmly believe that the problem is beyond one man, or even a group in the party.. The first major problem I see is that of an opposition party that does not even understand the role it should play in the current dispensation. Nigerian politicians from the PDP, and APC (and indeed other political parties) are people with little or no interest in the development of Nigeria. They are only fighting for ego and self interest. Nigerians must learn to safeguard their interest and entrench a better society for us all. The real problem is the docility of the populace and failure to be reasonably proactive in the political and economic events of the nation. |
This seems to be a season of anomaly as there are increasing reports of suicide acts. The economy, no doubt, has contributed a lot to this. Whatever could be the reason, is suicide really the option to take? The following factors should seriously be considered before taking one' s own life. 1. The problem can be overcome. Whatever is the problem and no matter how big it looks, it can be overcome. It may take some time, energy, efforts or perseverance, but it definately can be overcome. 2. You are not alone. You are not the only one with challenges. All other people have challenges which they too are contending with. Therefore, you are not alone., try to face your challenges. Those problems are challenges. 3. Share it. There is this saying that a problem shared is a problem half solved. Do not bottle the problem, share the burden with people around you. You will be surprised somebody may offer a good solution. 4. For those who believe, God is alive and still does wonders. Prayerfully take the problems to Him and you will be amazed at how He will intervene. 5 Be considerate. You have family members who look, probably, up to you. Your death will will do more harm to then than any good. Remember, tough time does not last, tough people do. |
As the 2017 WASSCE theory papers began, secondary schools which trooped to collect the customised WAEC calculators at the Igbogbo, Ikorodu office, (Lagos) had been forced to pay the sum of N1,550 to buy WAEC syllabus that covered a period up 2016 before they could collect calculators for the candidates. An eye witness wondered why the examination body must do that. There were silent grublings as it was further revealed that before registration for the candidates commenced, schools had ealier paid for the syllabus in the fee of N5500 paid to the examination body. |
A lot has been said about different weapons of mass destruction in the world. These weapons, no doubt, are threats to life and humanity. From atomic bomb to hydrogen bomb, nuclear bomb, chemical weapons, and others, all these weapons have the potency to reduce several lives to rubbles. Which one of these will you really consider as the deadliest? The truth is the most deadly weapon is not even among the mentioned weapons. The deadliest weapon of destruction is the heart of man. It is the heart of man that conceived all the weapons in the first place. When the heart becomes extremely wicked, that is when terror is unleashed and destruction occurs. Without the prompting of man, all these weapons are impotent on their own. Yet, the same heart can give the greatest gift that can ever be given - the gift of love. Let us search our hearts and ask ourselves whether we habour weapon or love. But then, love is the greatest thing. |
A lot of comments have been made over the purported desire of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in running for the Presidency in the next Presidential elections. Although there some staements credited to him that he would not contest against the incumbent, the possibility of Tinubu running, even if it is a heresay, is enough to generate interests. In view of political facts and other expediencies, I believe Tinubu will not contest for the Presidency in 2019 for the following reasons: 1, By the unwritten rule of zoning arrangement, it is not yet the turn of the south west to produce President for Nigeria. As a matter of fact, the south west may have to wait till 2023 or 2027 to do so. 2. The incumbent President has not indicated that he is not running in the next election. There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. 3. It is opportunistic and insensitive of Tinubu if he should contest in 2019. It will mean that he has abandoned the man he helped to put there at the very hour of the man' s need. I salute Tinubu's political calculations and wisdom. I believe that he will not venture to contest the next election as the President under the platform of the APC or any other political party. |
REASONS STUDENTS FAIL EXAMINATIONS By Toyin Olorunsola Many reasons have been adduced for the academic failures of students in secondary schools in Nigeria - in internal and external examinations. These are some of the most recurrent ones: 1. Students fail because they are lazy and do not find time to study. Weeks to the commencement of their 2017 WASSCE exaninations, it is amazing that many of the students still play football and frollic around as if that is what matters most. 2. Students fail because of unconducive environments. I know of many schools that are situated close to a major express road or even a market! How will distractions allow such students to study? 3 There is no serious dedication from teachers and stake holders, even the government. Teaching is seen as a profession for those who can not make it in other profitable endeavours. 4. There is the belief that some forces will facilitate their sucess by whatever means, especially with regard to external examinations.. The 'expo' culture is doing a lot of damage to our education. No wonder Nigerian educational system is scoffed at internationally. 5. Poverty is another factor that is making many students to fail. Here, I am not talking about needs and finacial constraints. I am talking about poverty of the mind. Many learners do not really understand the essence of studying. Some are doing it because others are doing it, or because they are expected to do it. God will help us. |
There is nothing wrong with facing onerous challenges as the acting President of Nigeria. After all, uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. |
naijaking1:This is beyond nepotism. Goverment agencies must do their work professionally without resorting to brutality. The early we all understand this, the better for the society. |
