FrankAkowe: I really love you, so nothing anybody says can dampen my love. It’s genuine and God knows that.’
I thought she would try to reciprocate what I said. She did not. Instead, her lips came on mine and there was a long, deep kiss.
‘I think Ruth should not be carried away by infatuation,’ I said, quite breathless.
‘You think at twenty-four, she doesn’t know what real love is?’
I smiled. ‘If she were my sister, I’ll advise her to be very sure before giving her heart to a man.’
‘And what if she’s already sure?’
‘In that case, I’ll wish her the best of luck.’
Her lips came again and the kiss resumed. It went for such a long time I wondered if it had become a pastime. All along, I only cuddled her back. Then it occurred to me that she might want more than that. She I take a step further?
My mind said yes so the right hand move slowly but steadily to the bust. It was not the first time that adventurous hand would be making that trip.
Unlike the previous attempt at exploring that region, the hostess was receptive this time around. As a fact, the hand was warmly welcome. That was a good encouragement. The other hand was invited for full exploration. She yielded all along.
I took her to the bedroom and we had first most intimate moments together.
‘What made you change your mind?’ I asked afterwards. We were naked under the blanket and she still cuddled up to me, stroking my chest.
‘Why did you think I changed my mind?’ she parried.
I appeared in thought momentarily. ‘I guess it’s because I’m a handsome guy.’
She playfully smacked my chest. ‘You’re wrong. Try again.’
I smiled. ‘Maybe it’s because I go to church regularly.’
She chuckled. ‘Nope. Being religious has nothing to do with it.’
I sighed. ‘Alright, I give up. Tell me the reason.’
She took her time before saying: ‘I’ve realized that the two of us are truly in love.’
I was enamored to that statement. I forgot all the reservations expressed by her mother and went on to have another round of love-making with her. We had a blissful night together.
Early in the morning, we woke up, took our bath and dressed up for our different places of work. For the remaining part of the week, thinking about my moments of intimacy with Ruth made me glow.
That Saturday, I was supposed to visit Ruth again at the Ikeja G.R.A residence. In the morning while I dressed up, I realized that I must really look my best anytime I paid her a visit.
I wore my best shirt and one of the new trousers she gave me. I also wore the black brogues and used the perfume. I was about to step out of my apartment when my phone rang.
I was surprised to find that it was Ms. Judith that was calling.
‘Hello, Francis.’
‘Good morning, madam. How’s the weekend?’
‘Ah, the weekend is good o,’ she replied gleefully. ‘I’m really happy.’
I wondered the source of her happiness. ‘I’m happy for you, madam,’ I said without thinking much about what I had said.
‘Yes, you should be. I’m at that hospital and I’ve just got the medical report that I’m three weeks pregnant. Oh, Francis, thank you so much.’
The smile froze on my face. ‘I’m …I’m happy for you, madam,’ I managed to say.
‘Yes o. I just called to inform you and to say thank you once again.’

LoveToRead: She went for a pregnancy test in a private laboratory not far from where the law chamber was. When the result of the test came out, it showed that she was six weeks pregnant.
A delighted Maggie showed her equally delighted husband the medical report.
Yinka hugged her and briefly lifted her up.
'Good. I'm going to be a real father.'
Maggie was bemused. Was he a fake father to the child that Ibidun bore for him?
'I hope it's a boy,' he said.
'Hmn. Many of you men are so chauvinistic. So, what happens if it turns out to be a girl?'
He grinned. 'Since I already have a girl, I want this one to be a boy.'
That was his perfect reason. Maggie smiled. To her, it did not really matter if the child was a boy or girl. A child is a child.
Tony was in his small office when his cell phone rang. He was surprised that Cynthia was the one on the line. 'Hello, Cynthia. Quite an age.'
'Hi. Good morning.'
'Yes, how're you this morning.'
'Fine. Are you in the office? I want to see you. I have got to see you.'
'I'm in the office. Hope no problem?'
'I'll be there.'
He sighed. Something important must be in the offing. About an hour later, she came around straight to his small office which smelt of medicines.
'Cynthia, how're you doing?' he asked her as soon as she came in and settled on a plastic chair.
'Can't say I'm fine, and can't say I'm not.'
'What could be that serious?'
She opened her handbag and brought a brown envelope out. From it, she removed a document and handed it to him. He unfolded it and read the content. It was a report which indicated that a pregnancy test had been conducted on her and she was eight weeks pregnant.
'How come?' he exclaimed. 'I thought you were on pills. How did you still get pregnant?'
She grimaced. 'I was surprised too.'
'Eight weeks!' he repeated. He cast his mind back. Yes, eight weeks ago, they were indeed having romps of sex.
'Alright,' he said. 'We have to do something fast about this.'
'Such as what?'
He grinned ruefully. 'You know what I mean. Such as quickly terminating the pregnancy.'
Her face became a scowl. 'I don't like that idea.'
'Oh, come on, Cynthia. We don't have a choice. The wedding between Lara and I will be coming up in three months’ time.'
Cynthia sighed. 'I don't deserve the treatment you're giving me.'
He frowned. 'I thought we've settled this matter. Why bringing it up now?'
'Because I'm pregnant for you,' she replied simply.
'Look, I have some very good pills with no side effects that you can take and will bring it down. On the other hand, if you want to go to a clinic to do it, I'll give you the money right away.'
'It's not just about money,' she said.
His brows went up. 'It's about what?'
'It's about love.'
He shook his head. 'Please and please, Cynthia, let's not go into that again.'
'Is it a crime to fall in love? How could you be treating me like a rag?'
To his surprise and consternation, she burst into tears.'
'Oh, my God. Please, Cynthia, stop this crying. Please, stop it.'
She did not stop, but rather cried the more.
He was utterly confused. 'Oh, please, stop the crying.'
It was that very moment that Lara chose to call him. He could not answer the call, for fear that she would hear Cynthia's cries. Besides, he was in a distressed mood. He stood up and went to Cynthia's side, holding her by the shoulders.

LoveToRead: He accompanied her to the gate and waved bye to her.
Wow, what an episode! So many things had happened in the last twenty four hours or so. But in all, the glory be to God.
What next? Must he call Janet? He could, but shouldn't she be the one to call him? She was the one who called it quits with him. She was the one who would not listen to his explanations. Well, thank God, all ended well.
He sat down and watched the news on television. He was still watching it when Janet knocked at his door.
He opened the door and ushered her in. They sat next to each other without a word. She handed him a note: Forgive me, please.
He sighed and folded the note.
'I've forgiven you.' He was cool and calm and there was no trace of anger or even annoyance in him.
'Oh my darling.' She moved over to him and clung onto him.
It was the longest hug he ever had without a break.
Twenty minutes later, she was still in his arms. She cried and kissed him. She cried again and he had to urge her to calm down.
While she was still exhibiting so much emotion, an idea struck her mind: God had answered her prayers.
The complaint that her relationship never lasted had been laid to rest. The jinx had been broken. Glory be to God. This realization brought more emotional display. 'It's okay, my dear.' He kissed her forehead.
Later she slept in his arms and he carried her to the bedroom. Like a baby whose sleep must not be disturbed, he gently lay her on the bed.
When he wanted to move away, she still clung on to him. He had no choice than to remain at her side. Soon, he too slept off.
He must have slept for up to an hour. Her hand that rubbed on his chest aroused him. He opened his eyes and turned to her.
'You've woken up?' His question was unnecessary and he knew it. She nodded and smiled at him.
'How're you?' He smiled and looked into her eyes.
'Great' She smiled again and squeezed his right hand. 'I'm so glad we're back together.'
'Me too.'
'Can I ask you a question?' There was curiosity on her face.
He smiled at her. 'You can ask any question, my dear.'
'Did...did you and Becky ever...?'
He didn't wait for her to finish the statement. He put his right palm on her mouth to stop her.
'Never. There was never anything like that. She's just a friend.' He mused. 'I have never raped nor attempted to rape anybody in my life. And for Becky, I won't do it even if she wants it.'
'I believe you.' She smiled innocently.
'Thanks for believing.'
'You're welcome.'
'There's something I should let you know about her.' He sat up on the bed and put the pillow between his back and the wall.
'What's that?'
'She asked that I should be her good friend. That was when she came to apologize. I gave her my words.'
Janet didn't say a thing for few seconds. 'Is she saying you should have an affair with her?'
'No. She wants a friend she can confide in. She thinks I have the quality.'
'She is still hoping to have you.' Janet cast a warning look. 'I know you have the ability to be steadfast, but be careful with her. She's still eyeing you.'
'I will be careful.'
'I can't share you with anyone.' She grinned. 'I don't want to ever share your love with anyone.'
He pinched her softly on the hand. 'There won't ever be anything like that, my dear. I can't do that.'
'I already told dad I've broken up with you.'
'You have?' He raised his eyebrows.
'Yes, in the morning. Mum advises that I should continue to let him have that impression.'
'Your mum knows about what has happened?' He was surprised.
'Yes. I told her everything.'
He sighed.
'She seems to...she seems to think you're a good guy.' She laughed.
'She does?' Again, he was surprised.
'Yes. She's on our side.'
'Glory be to God.'
'But, there's still dad's angle to contend with.' Now, she wore a slight frown.
'Don't worry. God will handle everything.' He patted her to reassure her.
Her phone rang. It was her mum on the line.
'Hello, are you still with him?' Julie's voice showed concern.
'Yes, mum.'
'Can I talk to him?'
'Sure, mum.' She turned to him. 'My mum wants to talk to you.'
'What?' He could not disguise his surprise.
She winked at him and handed her phone over.
'Hello, ma'am. Good day, ma'am.' He bowed slightly as if the woman was right there.
'Hello, Raphael, how d'you do?'
'I'm fine ma'am. I thank God ma'am.'
'I hope you're not toying with the emotions of my daughter.'
'Oh no, ma'am. God forbid, ma'am.'
'If indeed it's God's will that you'll be life partners, leave everything to God. He does things His own way and at His own time.'

FrankAkowe: I preceded her to my flat.
‘How was Sunday service?’ she asked.
‘Ah, the service was great. God is working in mighty ways.’
‘You can say that again.’ She put the two bags she had brought on the glass center table. She lifted the polythene nylon.
‘I brought some food and soup for you,’ she said. ‘I’ll take them to the kitchen and pour them in pots.’
‘Oh, that’s mighty considerate of you,’ I replied, smiling expansively. ‘But I think you should not have bothered yourself going through all these troubles for me.’
‘Oh, come on, Frank. If I don’t do it for my love, who will I do it for?’
My smile remained on. I must confess it was good to hear that.
She pointed at the second bag. ‘This,’ she went on to unzip it, ‘contains some wears that I think will be useful to you.’
She started bringing out the articles inside the bag.
There were six packet shirts, three trousers including a pair of jeans, two pairs of brogues shoes, a bottle of Giorgio Armani perfume, a Lacoste belt and two Versace ties.
‘These are for you,’ she announced.
I was impressed with what she had done. ‘All these?’ She nodded. ‘You deserve more than these, dear.’
I didn’t know how else to say thank you to her other than to hug her.
‘I really appreciate your magnanimity,’ I gushed.
‘You’re welcome.’
As much as I welcomed her generous disposition, I was still slightly worried. Maybe I was too old-fashioned or conservative – or both – but I didn’t really fancy a man depending on a woman to look good.
I tried as much as possible, within my limited resources, to be cute, but it was like Ruth was about to give my efforts unimaginable boosts.
She took the nylon containing the food flasks to the kitchen and I followed her. There, she poured the contents of the first flask which contained fried chicken into a pot. The second flask contained fried rice.
That saved the trouble of taking her out to an eatery, at least for that day.
She dished some rice inside two plates, added some chicken laps and put them in a tray. We went back to the sitting-room. We ate to our satisfaction. Thereafter we chatted until eight in the evening when she announced that she would like to take her leave.
‘You’ve really done well, Ruth, darling. I really appreciate all you’ve done.’
She smiled and waved it off. I saw her off to her car.
‘Drive careful,’ I said, the way I would tell a loving sister.
‘I’ll give you a call later.’
‘Okay. Goodnight.’ She drove off.
I returned to my living-room and examined the items she had brought again. Two of the shirts were Marks and Spencer while the remaining four were Yves Saint Laurent products. All these must have cost a lot.
I removed one of the shirts and tried it on. It was my exact size. How did she know my exact size?
I opened the perfume bottle and sprayed some on my arm. It really smelt good. My eyes went to the shoes. They were made of pure leather. One was a pair of black, while the second was a pair of brown.
I tried one of the pairs on. I was not surprised. Size 42 fitted me perfectly.
I remembered my prayer to God in the church. Had God answered my prayers or was Ruth a matter of fluke relationship? If she was not in love, would she go to the extent of doing all these?
What would be her gain if she was just doing all these just for the hell of it?
Then I asked myself if I was really in love with her. My answer was yes. I didn’t fall in love because of her background. I fell in love and expressed my feelings when I thought she came from the same social class that I came from.
Well, that moment, I decided that my love for Ruth was real and I must not allow any material factor to undermine that fact. I must remain in love with her and I must, in all ways, not disappoint her. I called her few minutes after nine.
‘Hello, Ruth darling. Have you got home?’
‘Yes. I just got home.’
‘Good to hear that. Thanks for the other time.’
‘You don’t have to keep saying that,’ she pointed out. ‘It’s a pleasure for me to do what I did.’
‘Thanks all the same.’
She laughed shortly across the line. ‘You’re welcome.’ After the telephone conversation, I realized that somehow, I must still continue with my prayers of getting a godly and God-fearing wife.
Ruth appeared to fit in, but something told me things might not continue to be as smooth as they appeared to be.
I was proved right by mid-day of Monday while at my place of work. I got a call from an unknown number.

LoveToRead: She shouldn't be doing this if they were to abide by the no pre-marital sex rule. But she was not done. Her hand lifted his singlet up and rubbed his tummy. To Tony, that was invitation to sex.
'You must be careful about where your hand goes so that poor Tony will not break the rule,' he said.
'What rule?' she asked.
He sighed. 'The rule about no-sex.'
She giggled. 'Rules are made for humans; humans are not made for rules.'
He stared briefly at her. 'What does that mean?'
She smiled. 'You know what I mean.'
'No. Spell it out.'
She sighed. 'Let's amend the rule.'
'Meaning?'
Now, she laughed. 'Meaning we don't have to be rigid.'
He smiled. 'Are you sure about that?'
She used her second finger to write 'y', 'e', 's' on his chest.
'Okay,' he said.
But he made no move. It was either he was very modest, reserved, or something. She would have to help him. Her right leg moved up a bit, such that the knee was resting close to the center of his boxer. His heart beat increased as his groin warmed up. Deliberately, her knee brushed the organ inside the boxer. Alright, since that was what she wanted, that was what she would get. His hands held her thighs and caressed them. Then, like explorers that they were, they moved to her top, found their way under the cloth and made the big boobs their destination. The boobs acted like hostesses that were expecting the guests. Their erect and hard stance attested to this. His mouth, a la his tongue, became the chief guest. Both the guest and the hostesses enjoyed the warmth of visiting and hosting respectively.
The middle belt visit was the most important. The red-carpet reception was great, and it was similar to triumphant entry. While she closed her eyes, the image of the man making love to her that she could see was Alex.
That Friday, the law chamber where Yinka and Maggie worked gave them the day off. They were not to resume work until Monday. Yinka and his wife decided to stay indoor. They would eat, laze around and make love. That's what new couples do and that was what they would do. About noon, he decided to call his mother at Oshogbo to inform her of the latest happening.
'How're you, mummy?' he greeted. He was making the call in the presence of Maggie, his wife. He had decided that he would not keep anything away from her again.
'Hello, Olayinka. Have you decided on a date to come and pick your 'wife' and your child?'
'No. I've said I will come and take the child when the time is right. As for 'wife', I've got one already.'
The woman caught her breath. 'What are you saying?'
Yinka grinned into the mouthpiece of the phone. 'What I'm saying is I've married Margaret, the lady I'm genuinely in love with.'
'You don't mean it, Yinka.'
He laughed shortly. 'I mean it, mummy. Yesterday, we were at the Registry to do the signing. Margaret and I are now married. She's my wife.'
There was a long silence. 'Hello, mummy. Are you still there?'
'Yes, I am. So, you still went ahead and marry that Lagos lady, when a very loving and respectful lady is waiting for you here.'
'I've said it times without number that she should look for another man. She's still very young and pretty. It won't be hard for her to get herself another man.'
Again, there was another. 'This thing you've done is bad. Ibidun will be heart-broken. You know how much she loves you.'
'She should take heart,' he said almost nonchalantly. 'Another guy will come her way. That's what I want to let you know, mummy. Bye for now.' With that, Yinka hanged up.
Margaret had been listening to the conversation.
'Somehow, I feel sorry for Ibidun,' she said. 'She'll get over it. Come over here, my love.'
She came into his arms and they started another round of kissing and smooching. They had a jolly time together that weekend. On Monday, they went to work together and returned together. Maggie knew now what marriage was and how sweet it could be. On Tuesday morning, his mother called him from Oshogbo.
'Ibidun is not happy at all about what you have done,' she stated. 'You need to see how she reacted when I told her. She wept bitterly.'
'Sorry about that,' he answered. 'She should take heart.'
'Is that all you're going to say? Are you not going to call her and personally console her?'
'There will be no need for that. She should take heart,' he reiterated.
'I think should find time to call call her. Just tell her you're sorry things turn the way they've turned.'
Yinka was thoughtful. He always respected his mother and always found it difficult to say no to her. That was why he found it difficult to shake off Ibidun's matter. Ever since he lost his father, his mother had been playing pivotal role in his life.
'Alright, mummy. I'll call her.'
